00:00:00This is the prayer book for morning prayer.
00:00:25Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
00:00:28The glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
00:00:32is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
00:00:35Amen.
00:00:35Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters, and welcome on this 25th Ordinary Sunday.
00:01:01Let's begin with our morning prayer, found on page B8 of your White Pew prayer books.
00:01:09Page B8.
00:01:12Blessed be the Lord our God, the King of the universe, now and always, forever and ever.
00:01:18Amen.
00:01:19O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.
00:01:24Creation itself shares the glorious freedom of the children of God.
00:01:28Let the earth and all that is in it praise the greatness of the Lord.
00:01:34Let man do all within his power to extol the glory of God's name.
00:01:39Let the towering mountains bless the Lord with the forest and the lowly hills.
00:01:44Let the flowers and the plants bless the Lord, every growing thing that the earth yields.
00:01:50Bless the Lord all flowing fountains which spring from far below the earth.
00:01:55Bless the Lord, seas and rivers, whose waters carry the ships of men.
00:02:01Bless the Lord, you fish and sea monsters, all creatures living in the waters.
00:02:06Bless the Lord, all you winged creatures who fly the heavens majestically.
00:02:12Bless the Lord, all you animals, those which are wild and those which serve men.
00:02:18Bless the Lord, all you human creatures, and praise his goodness eternally.
00:02:22O Israel, bless your God continually, forever and ever, praise his greatness.
00:02:29Bless the Lord, all you his priests.
00:02:32Bless him faithfully, all you his servants.
00:02:35Bless the Lord, all you holy souls, you who are humble, love him.
00:02:40Let everyone sing to God's glory and praise him from the present moment until eternity.
00:02:46Let us bless the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one blessed Trinity.
00:02:51Blessed are you, Lord, in the highest heavens, you who reign supreme over all creation.
00:02:57Holy God, as you rest among the saints, the seraphim praise you, the cherubim sing your glory,
00:03:05and all the powers of heaven and earth fall down before you.
00:03:08Allow us, sinful as we are, to stand before your holy altar and to offer you the praise and worship you deserve.
00:03:16Pardon our sins and sanctify us by the merits of Jesus Christ, our Savior,
00:03:21who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, now and forever.
00:03:25A reading taken from Matthew's Gospel.
00:03:29One of the Pharisees, the teacher of the law, tried to trap him with a question.
00:03:34Teacher, he asked, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
00:03:38Jesus answered, you must love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
00:03:45This is the greatest and most important commandment.
00:03:48The second most important commandment is like it.
00:03:51You must love your neighbor as yourself.
00:03:53The whole law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.
00:04:00Wake up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine upon you.
00:04:05Lord, have mercy.
00:04:08Christ, have mercy.
00:04:11Lord, have mercy.
00:04:13Lord, have mercy.
00:04:13Let us once again hold up in prayer and petition all those who have asked for our prayers for their health and for their healing,
00:04:20that God, the Father of mercy through his Son, Jesus, may grant them all that is needful to them.
00:04:25We pray especially for Laura, Stan, Kelly, Curtis, Joshua, Tom, Karen, Gregory, Teresa, Michelle, Susan, Gary, Gary and Sandra, Fred, Teresa, Carla, Francine, Eileen, Joyce, Helen, Michael,
00:04:55Liz, Dorothy, Jennifer, Daniel, and Julia, Steve, Ronnie, and all in need of God's healing grace.
00:05:03We pray for all those who serve in the armed forces of the United States,
00:05:07especially Michael, Mark, Patrick, Timothy, Charlie, Father Joseph, Father Andrew, Father Stan, Father Andrew, Father Nadim, and Father Mariusz.
00:05:17For all those in public service, our civil servants, police officers, and firefighters.
00:05:22For all active and retired clergy of our Holy Church.
00:05:25For all students and teachers at Mount Pleasant Middle School.
00:05:29For the residents and staff of City Mission of Schenectady.
00:05:32For the residents and staff of Pathways.
00:05:34For all members of the Civil Air Patrol.
00:05:37And for all who have asked for our prayers for any need or intention.
00:05:40And this week we remember and pray for in a special way the people and the clergy of St. Joseph's Parish
00:05:46in Westfield, Massachusetts.
00:05:48We hold up all these prayers before God the Father in the words Jesus taught us.
00:05:54Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
00:05:58Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
00:06:03Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
00:06:07as we forgive those who trespass against us.
00:06:11And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
00:06:15Amen.
00:06:17Lord God Almighty, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
00:06:20Direct our hearts and bodies in the love of God and the patience of Christ.
00:06:25Bless us, defend us from all evil, and bring us safely to life everlasting.
00:06:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
00:06:33Amen.
00:06:34Good morning everyone and welcome again on this 25th Ordinary Sunday.
00:06:39A few quick reminders and notes.
00:06:44Thank you to Liz and her team for putting out the fall decorations as we have the first day of fall upon us.
00:06:52We have these beautiful things to praise the Lord with.
00:06:58Fall soup sale.
00:06:59Number one, thank you to everyone who's making soup.
00:07:02We got a lot of great soup in.
00:07:04They're available for $10 a quart.
00:07:06And right now we have chicken soup.
00:07:10We have seafood gumbo.
00:07:13We have beans and greens.
00:07:14And we have beef barley.
00:07:16So thank you to all those who are making soup.
00:07:18Please continue to do so.
00:07:20And if you haven't yet, please do that.
00:07:22And we'll put that out there for people who want to buy that.
00:07:27Our trip to Scranton, there's a sign-up sheet available for that trip.
00:07:31We'll be getting a bus together for that.
00:07:34Right now, the way the schedule for the fall is looking, I don't think we're going to get it in this fall.
00:07:40So I think we should shoot for the spring.
00:07:43We'll go out when the things are greening up and the flowers are blooming.
00:07:47And the weather will probably be...
00:07:49I mean, we're having summer in the fall already.
00:07:51But I think just schedule-wise, it will work out better if we do so in the spring,
00:07:59especially because they're kind of closing up the camp right now.
00:08:04So that's not really available.
00:08:08Our next pierogi-making day for our winter pierogi sale is upon us.
00:08:14Please see Paul.
00:08:15There's a sign-up sheet downstairs for that.
00:08:18And the sale will help us close any financial gap we might have for this year.
00:08:24Other reminders, Schenectady Social Club, the breakfast schedule, is on the back bulletin board.
00:08:31Please remember to call by Thursday at 2 p.m. if you are attending.
00:08:37The pierogi 5K will be October 18th.
00:08:41We'll be selling some food there and greeting people.
00:08:43Pet blessings.
00:08:46Pet blessings are October 5th, which is a Sunday.
00:08:50So get your doggies and kitties and birds and whatever ready to come to church with you
00:08:56and receive a blessing on that day in honor of St. Francis of Assisi,
00:09:03whose commemoration is near that day.
00:09:05October rosary devotions are beginning this Wednesday would be October 1st.
00:09:18Wednesday, October 1st at 3 p.m.
00:09:22Please join us for that wonderful devotion.
00:09:24It is important that we remember that that's not magical thinking,
00:09:30but that it is a way of prayer that we can engage in to grow closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
00:09:39Tomorrow, it's the Feast of St. Matthew, the Apostle and Evangelist.
00:09:44We have the memorial service tomorrow for Shantia at 12.30 at Bond Funeral Home
00:09:50and also Food Pantry tomorrow, Holy Mass throughout the rest of the week,
00:09:55and a normal Holy Mass schedule for next Sunday, September 28th.
00:10:02So there we are.
00:10:04I think that's everything.
00:10:05Did I forget anything?
00:10:06No?
00:10:07Okay, good.
00:10:08That's amazing.
00:10:09I didn't forget anything.
00:10:10I want to thank my dear brother Jeremy for being with us today and serving at Holy Mass.
00:10:17Jeremy is from St. Adalbert's Parish in Dixon City in Pennsylvania, a very faithful young man.
00:10:25Please pray for him, for his journey throughout college and into, hopefully, the priesthood.
00:10:32And I appreciate him being here with us and really doing God's work among us.
00:10:39With that, let us now rise and begin our worship with song.
00:10:43Lord, we are going to sing.
00:10:59Alleluia, amen.
00:11:02Home, raise your Christ our King.
00:11:07Alleluia, amen.
00:11:10Let all with heart and voice before his throne rejoice.
00:11:19Praise is his gracious choice.
00:11:24Alleluia.
00:11:26Amen.
00:11:28Come lift your hearts on high.
00:11:34Alleluia.
00:11:35Amen.
00:11:36Let praises fill the sky.
00:11:42Alleluia.
00:11:44Amen.
00:11:46He is our guide and friend.
00:11:50To us he'll condescend.
00:11:54His love shall never end.
00:11:59Alleluia.
00:12:01Amen.
00:12:02Praise yet our Christ again.
00:12:08Alleluia.
00:12:10Amen.
00:12:12Life shall not end the strain.
00:12:17Alleluia.
00:12:19Amen.
00:12:20On heaven's blissful shore, his goodness we'll adore, singing forevermore.
00:12:34Alleluia.
00:12:36Amen.
00:12:38Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters, and welcome on this 25th Ordinary Sunday.
00:12:48Today, our Lord and Savior speaks to us about what we need to be strong, resolute, wise, and
00:12:58steadfast about, how we need, as Christians, to be shrewd in our faith, and to use common sense
00:13:06in our approach to our faith and to the world.
00:13:11Today's Holy Mass is offered for all of our members, all of our parishioners, all those
00:13:16who find their home of faith here with us at Holy Name of Jesus in Schenectady.
00:13:21Today's Holy Mass in the Contemporary Rite, found on page 63 of the Tan Pugh Missal.
00:13:28In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
00:13:31Amen.
00:13:32Lord, bless us with the wisdom to praise you in spirit and in truth, so that by following
00:13:37your holy will, we may gain eternal salvation.
00:13:41Amen.
00:13:41My dear brothers and sisters, let's now pause, confess our sins to God, and prepare ourselves
00:13:47so that we may worthily participate in this holy sacrifice.
00:13:50Please now complete your examination of conscience, confessing your sins privately to God and seeking
00:13:58his forgiveness.
00:14:11Have recalled our sinfulness, and seeking reconciliation with God and each other, let's now recite the
00:14:25second form of the Confiter on page 66 as our confession.
00:14:28I confess to Almighty God in the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the saints, and
00:14:36you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault.
00:14:40In my thoughts, in my words, in what I have done or failed to do, I ask the Blessed Virgin
00:14:47Mary, all the saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our
00:14:54God.
00:14:54As an act of penance for our sinfulness, let's this evening offer up an Our Father before we
00:15:01go to bed, asking for God's help in our strength and in our courage.
00:15:08May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
00:15:13May our Lord Jesus Christ absolve you, and with his authority vested in me, I absolve you
00:15:18from all your sins.
00:15:20In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
00:15:23Amen.
00:15:24Praise you, servants of the Lord.
00:15:30Praise the name of the Lord.
00:15:33Blessed be the name of the Lord, both now and forever.
00:15:38Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
00:15:41As it was beginning, it is now, and ever shall be, for all of them.
00:15:46Amen.
00:15:46Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.
00:16:15Glory to God in the highest.
00:16:29Through peace to us people on earth, Lord God, and with you in the way to come, Father,
00:16:33we worship you and give you thanks, we praise you for your glory, Lord Jesus Christ, who
00:16:37is the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on
00:16:43us, you are seated at the right hand, Lord Father, receive our prayer, for you alone
00:16:48to the Holy One, the Lord of the Lord, the Lord of the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the
00:16:53Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
00:16:56Amen.
00:16:56Thanks and thanks be ever given, with and through angelic host, to the God of earth and heaven,
00:17:12Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
00:17:16Amen.
00:17:18Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Amen.
00:17:29The Lord be with you.
00:17:33And also with you.
00:17:37Let us pray.
00:17:38All-knowing Father, your Son taught us to first seek his kingdom, and all other things
00:17:47would be given to us.
00:17:49Help us to seek the riches of your truth, and the wealth of your grace.
00:17:55We ask this through the same Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
00:18:02one God, forever and ever.
00:18:06Amen.
00:18:08Let us now be seated and attentive to the Lord's word.
00:18:14Our first reading is a reading from the book of the prophet Amos.
00:18:44Hear this, you who trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land.
00:18:52When will the new moon be over, you ask, that we may sell our grain, and the Sabbath, that
00:18:58we may display the wheat?
00:19:00We will diminish the ephah, add to the shekel, and fix our scales for cheating.
00:19:04We will buy the lowly for silver, and the poor for a pair of sandals.
00:19:10Even the refuse of the wheat we will sell.
00:19:13The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob, never will I forget a thing they have done.
00:19:22The word of the Lord.
00:19:23Thanks be to God.
00:19:25A responsorial psalm.
00:19:28Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.
00:19:31Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.
00:19:33Praise you, servants of the Lord.
00:19:37Praise the name of the Lord.
00:19:39Praise be the name of the Lord, both now and forever.
00:19:43Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.
00:19:46High above all nations is the Lord, above the heavens is his glory.
00:19:52Who is like the Lord our God, who is enthroned on high, and looks upon the heavens and the
00:19:58earth below.
00:20:00Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.
00:20:04He raises up the lowly from the dust.
00:20:06From the dunghill he lifts up the poor to seat them with the princes, with the princes of his
00:20:12own people.
00:20:13Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.
00:20:18Our second reading is a reading from the first letter of St. Paul to Timothy.
00:20:25Beloved, first of all, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered
00:20:35for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in
00:20:42all devotion and dignity.
00:20:45This is good and pleasing to God our Savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come
00:20:51to knowledge of the truth.
00:20:53For there is one God.
00:20:55There is also one mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself
00:21:01as a ransom for all.
00:21:03This was the testimony at the proper time.
00:21:07For this I was appointed preacher and apostle.
00:21:10I am speaking the truth.
00:21:12I am not lying.
00:21:14Teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
00:21:18It is my wish, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without
00:21:25anger or argument.
00:21:27The word of the Lord.
00:21:28Thanks be to God.
00:21:53Please rise.
00:21:54Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Dispose of your treasure
00:22:17as the Most High Commands, for that will profit you more than gold.
00:22:26Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
00:22:39Lord, bring my heart and my lips, and I will proclaim this holy gospel through Jesus Christ,
00:22:43our Lord.
00:22:43Amen.
00:22:44Amen.
00:22:47The Lord be with you.
00:22:50And also with you.
00:22:51A reading from the holy gospel according to St. Luke.
00:22:55Glory be to you, O Lord.
00:22:57Jesus said to his disciples,
00:23:00A rich man had a steward who was reported to him for squandering his property.
00:23:06He summoned him and said,
00:23:07What is this I hear about you?
00:23:10Prepare a full account of your stewardship because you can no longer be my steward.
00:23:15The steward said to himself,
00:23:18What shall I do now that my master is taking the position of steward away from me?
00:23:23I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.
00:23:27I know what I shall do so that when I am removed from the stewardship,
00:23:32they may welcome me into their homes.
00:23:35He called in his master's debtors one by one.
00:23:39To the first he said,
00:23:41How much do you owe my master?
00:23:43He replied,
00:23:43One hundred measures of olive oil.
00:23:46He said to him,
00:23:47Here is your promissory note.
00:23:49Sit down quickly and write one for fifty.
00:23:52Then to another the steward said,
00:23:54And how much do you owe?
00:23:56He replied,
00:23:57One hundred cores of wheat.
00:23:59The steward said to him,
00:24:01Here is your promissory note.
00:24:03Write one for eighty.
00:24:04And the master commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently.
00:24:10For the children of this world are more prudent in dealing with their own generation
00:24:14than are the children of light.
00:24:17I tell you,
00:24:18Make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth
00:24:21so that when it fails,
00:24:23you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
00:24:26The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
00:24:29is also trustworthy in great ones.
00:24:32And the person who is dishonest in very small matters
00:24:36is also dishonest in great ones.
00:24:39If therefore you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth,
00:24:43who will trust you with true wealth?
00:24:45If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another,
00:24:49who will give you what is yours?
00:24:51No servant can serve two masters.
00:24:54He will either hate one and love the other,
00:24:57or be devoted to one and despise the other.
00:24:59You cannot serve both God and mammon.
00:25:03This is the Gospel of the Lord.
00:25:07Praise be to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:25:10Holy Spirit, come inspire us.
00:25:31Send your sevenfold gifts upon us.
00:25:37As we hear your word, Mo Salam,
00:25:43teach our hearts to know your wisdom.
00:25:48As we hear your word, Mo Salam,
00:25:54teach our hearts to know your wisdom.
00:25:59Come, O Spirit, and heal our hearts to thy faith
00:26:02with the fire of thy love.
00:26:14For the children of this world
00:26:16are more prudent in dealing with their own generation
00:26:21than are the children of the light.
00:26:24In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
00:26:27Amen.
00:26:28Now, here comes the recap.
00:26:31You're going to be hearing this over and over.
00:26:33We are now six weeks into our current study
00:26:36of God's way for us,
00:26:39our way for good living, for proper living.
00:26:44So over six weeks, we discussed our call to love,
00:26:48to put our faith on full display,
00:26:51to be resolved in all we do,
00:26:53and to be honest, not just nice.
00:26:58We recounted the call to discipline ourselves.
00:27:02We talked about placing our faith and trust in Christ
00:27:05by following his teachings, which are meant for us.
00:27:10Our faith strength is exhibited in the small things
00:27:13that we do each day,
00:27:15as well as in our humility and in our charity.
00:27:19What we count as important,
00:27:22what we count as worth the cost,
00:27:25is matters.
00:27:28And the way we forgive,
00:27:30and the way we love,
00:27:32matters as well.
00:27:34The question ever present in my mind,
00:27:36and I think about this a lot,
00:27:38and I know my fellow priests do this a lot,
00:27:42our deacons, our bishops do this a lot,
00:27:45is how do we strengthen our church?
00:27:49How do we strengthen our church?
00:27:51How do we draw people into the kingdom of God
00:27:55and make ourselves strong?
00:27:58Put our faith right out there.
00:28:00That's a question we think about,
00:28:02because that's what we want to impart
00:28:04to each and every parishioner,
00:28:07to each and every member of our holy church,
00:28:09and so that we all get on the same bandwagon.
00:28:13We build up our strength as a church.
00:28:18And today's parable is a great guide for all of us.
00:28:24In this parable of the dishonest steward,
00:28:27we are presented with a man who is very shrewd.
00:28:31That's important about him.
00:28:32He's very shrewd.
00:28:33Now, he's ripped off his master completely.
00:28:37He's gone through his stuff.
00:28:38He's stolen.
00:28:40He's done every bad thing.
00:28:42He's the dishonest steward.
00:28:44He didn't take care of what he was charged with taking care of.
00:28:51And he knows how to take care of his future.
00:28:56His eyes are on his future.
00:28:58What's going to happen tomorrow?
00:29:00It's probably because he's been thinking,
00:29:02as he's been stealing all along,
00:29:04what's going to happen tomorrow when I get caught?
00:29:06Well, he figures out that if he writes down the debts of his master's debtors,
00:29:14well, when his master throws him out,
00:29:16he's going to go have a soft landing spot with them.
00:29:19They'll take him in.
00:29:20They'll say,
00:29:21Hey, you gave me a break.
00:29:22That was great.
00:29:23Come in and be my steward.
00:29:25That way he doesn't have to dig ditches or beg in the street.
00:29:29The steward strengthens himself to his own selfish ends.
00:29:38Jesus wants to teach us something by this parable.
00:29:42Of course, Jesus isn't telling us,
00:29:44Oh yeah, go out and be dishonest and gather wealth and steal and do bad stuff.
00:29:49No, that's not what Jesus is talking about.
00:29:50But he's talking about qualities that we should have as faithful people.
00:29:57He's teaching us something about shrewdness and about cunning.
00:30:03Jesus wants us to be wise.
00:30:08He wants us to live in the world as effective witnesses.
00:30:13People who have true insight.
00:30:16People who have common sense.
00:30:19People who know what it means to be his followers.
00:30:25We are to use the gifts given to us by God as devoted and committed Christians.
00:30:34Now, we may run across those in church.
00:30:36And if you ever go to a church conference or a synod or you meet together in your senior lot,
00:30:43you know, you're going to have people come up to you and say,
00:30:46Hey, I know how we can strengthen our church.
00:30:50I know, I've got a plan.
00:30:53Let me tell you all about it.
00:30:54Sit down, have some coffee.
00:30:56We'll talk for three hours and I'll tell you all my plans and my schemes, right?
00:31:01I have the key to success and to growth.
00:31:05Now, you've got to remember, you've got to put this somewhere in the back of your head so it pops up.
00:31:10Jesus never asked us to be successful.
00:31:12He never said, go out and be successful.
00:31:16He said, go out and be my witnesses, be my disciples, right?
00:31:21That's what Jesus said.
00:31:22He never judged success as a factor for his followers.
00:31:28But that person who's sitting down with you and giving you their grand scheme for success and for growth and for strength
00:31:36is going to tell you, well, you know, if you just give me a little bit of money, I can make it happen.
00:31:44All right?
00:31:45The red light should be flashing.
00:31:49No, we're not going to give you a little bit of money to be successful.
00:31:52Because we can do it on our own.
00:31:56And I'll give you the keys to that.
00:31:59We are called to be smart about our faith, right?
00:32:03If someone's coming at us with a scheme for our faith, again, the red light should be going off.
00:32:09Boop, boop, boop, boop, go away.
00:32:12I'll go have coffee over there.
00:32:14Talk to somebody else.
00:32:16We're supposed to have common sense as Christians.
00:32:20You know, I know a lot of people say common sense is very rare this day.
00:32:24But I know each and every one of us has common sense.
00:32:27We know when we see something good and when we see something wrong.
00:32:33It doesn't mean being some sort of super intellectual.
00:32:37We don't have to be a scholastic scholar to be smart.
00:32:42Right?
00:32:42Being smart means just having common sense.
00:32:46You know, my wife, my dear wife, she used to work with a guy and his whole job was putting labels on things.
00:32:54Right?
00:32:54Can you imagine a whole job being paid to put labels on things?
00:32:58And all he used to say is, sticky side down, sticky side down.
00:33:02Right?
00:33:03Keep it simple.
00:33:04He had common sense.
00:33:05Sticky side goes down.
00:33:06Right?
00:33:06So, you know, we don't have to be a scholar.
00:33:10We don't have to be a mystic.
00:33:12We don't have to be a marketer.
00:33:14We don't have to be a marketer.
00:33:17What we have to be is shrewd.
00:33:21We have to be shrewd.
00:33:23To strengthen our church, to strengthen our parish, to grow vocations, and to grow families, is simple.
00:33:32Be prudent.
00:33:34Be prudent.
00:33:35Be shrewd.
00:33:37Be wise.
00:33:38And have common sense.
00:33:41The way forward is personal and communal.
00:33:46Right?
00:33:47It's personal to ourselves and our relationship with God on our own and communally as a parish and as the people of God, the Holy Church.
00:34:00It's faith in practice.
00:34:04Good things will happen.
00:34:06And good things are happening.
00:34:09They're happening.
00:34:10You know, sometimes you don't all see it, but they are.
00:34:13There's wonderful things happening in the life of this parish and in our Holy Church.
00:34:19Right?
00:34:20I spoke with someone last night, you know, texting.
00:34:24Right?
00:34:24You know, I told him, I sort of talked about this a little bit.
00:34:29You know?
00:34:29Because he was being assaulted.
00:34:31Right?
00:34:32By the devil.
00:34:33He was being told, hey, quit.
00:34:35Give up.
00:34:36No.
00:34:36You know?
00:34:37Because what he's doing is working for the church.
00:34:41He's doing wonderful things.
00:34:42And they're becoming successful.
00:34:44And they're growing the strength of the church.
00:34:47And people are being drawn in.
00:34:49Not because of money or any kind of super wisdom.
00:34:54But because of faithfulness.
00:34:56Because of faithfulness.
00:34:57And the devil hates that.
00:34:59The devil hates when you're faithful.
00:35:01He's going to try everything to discourage you.
00:35:04So I asked him to have strength.
00:35:06And I gave him some prayer to help.
00:35:07So, good will happen and is happening.
00:35:13It comes from strong devotion.
00:35:17Right?
00:35:17Devotion.
00:35:18Devotion to Jesus Christ.
00:35:20Latch on to Jesus.
00:35:22Hold on to Jesus.
00:35:24Embrace Jesus each and every day.
00:35:27It's so important.
00:35:28Be devoted to him.
00:35:30And be devoted to prayer.
00:35:32To scripture reading.
00:35:34Do those things because they work.
00:35:36And they're important.
00:35:37They matter.
00:35:39And they change things.
00:35:42We often sit around and we complain about,
00:35:45Oh, the world.
00:35:45Everything is so awful.
00:35:46It's...
00:35:47We need to be devoted.
00:35:50Because if we're devoted,
00:35:52things will change.
00:35:54Especially for us.
00:35:58Be fervent.
00:36:00Be fervent in prayer.
00:36:01When you approach the throne of God,
00:36:04let him know.
00:36:05Let him know what's going on in your life.
00:36:08Let him know what you need.
00:36:10Let him know who you're praying for.
00:36:12What you're praying for.
00:36:15Be fervent in that prayer.
00:36:17Be energized in that prayer.
00:36:19Be resolute in that prayer.
00:36:24You'll be heard.
00:36:26Then, of course, listen.
00:36:27Because God will speak back to you.
00:36:34Pay attention to God's holy word.
00:36:37Open those Bibles.
00:36:38You don't have one?
00:36:39We've got a whole bunch.
00:36:41We'll give you one.
00:36:42For free.
00:36:43Take it home.
00:36:45If you have one,
00:36:46open it up.
00:36:47Read it together as a couple.
00:36:49You know, at home.
00:36:50Pull out the Bible.
00:36:51Read it as a family.
00:36:52You don't have to read a whole book
00:36:54or anything like that.
00:36:55But some stories in the Bible are great.
00:36:59It's like a bedtime story.
00:37:00Pick up, you know,
00:37:03the story of Job.
00:37:06Right?
00:37:07There's just all kinds of great ones
00:37:12that you can just pull out
00:37:14and they're short and they're brief.
00:37:15The story of Jonah.
00:37:17Right?
00:37:17It's like three chapters.
00:37:19Boom, boom, boom.
00:37:19You're through it.
00:37:20Right?
00:37:21Great story.
00:37:22You can read it.
00:37:22It's like, oh, what an excellent story here.
00:37:25Is that something to teach us?
00:37:27Right?
00:37:31And acts of Christian love.
00:37:34Those little things, right?
00:37:36Prayer.
00:37:37Fervent prayer.
00:37:39Devotion.
00:37:40Acts of Christian love.
00:37:42Reading Scripture.
00:37:44They're simple.
00:37:47They're common sense.
00:37:48They're effective.
00:37:50And they're real.
00:37:51In the name of the Father,
00:37:53and of the Son,
00:37:53and of the Holy Spirit.
00:37:54Amen.
00:37:55Amen.
00:38:12Let us now rise and together profess our faith.
00:38:16I believe in one God,
00:38:18the Father,
00:38:19the Almighty,
00:38:20maker of heaven and earth,
00:38:22of all that is seen and unseen.
00:38:25I believe in one Lord,
00:38:27Jesus Christ,
00:38:28the only Son of God,
00:38:30eternally begotten of the Father,
00:38:32God from God,
00:38:34light from light,
00:38:35true God from true God,
00:38:37begotten, not made,
00:38:38of one being with the Father.
00:38:41Through him all things are made
00:38:42for us and for our salvation.
00:38:45He came down from heaven
00:38:47by the power of the Holy Spirit.
00:38:49He was born of the Virgin Mary
00:38:51and became man.
00:38:55For our sake,
00:38:57he was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
00:38:59He suffered death and was buried.
00:39:02On the third day,
00:39:03he rose again.
00:39:05In fulfillment of the Scriptures,
00:39:07he ascended into heaven
00:39:08and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
00:39:11He will come again in glory
00:39:13to judge the living and the dead
00:39:15and his kingdom will have no end.
00:39:18I believe in the Holy Spirit,
00:39:20the Lord and giver of life,
00:39:22who proceeds from the Father
00:39:24with the Father and the Son.
00:39:26He is worshiped and glorified.
00:39:28He has spoken through the prophets.
00:39:31I believe in one holy,
00:39:33Catholic, and apostolic church.
00:39:35I acknowledge one baptism
00:39:37for the forgiveness of sins.
00:39:39I look for the resurrection of the dead
00:39:41and the life of the world to come.
00:39:43Amen.
00:39:46The Lord be with you.
00:39:48And also with you.
00:39:49Let us pray.
00:39:51Beloved, let us now offer
00:39:53supplications and prayers,
00:39:56petitions and thanksgivings.

00:43:51Amen.
00:43:52Come Holy Spirit,
00:43:53and bless the sacrifice
00:43:54which we have prepared
00:43:55for the glory of your holy name.
00:43:57Lord, wash me from my iniquity,
00:44:00cleanse me from all my sin.
00:44:01We receive this offering, most holy training,
00:44:13which we make a member of the Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension
00:44:15of our Lord Jesus Christ, in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary

00:44:58and the good things You have given us.
00:45:01We ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ,
00:45:04who lives and reigns with You in the Holy Spirit,
00:45:08one God, forever and ever.
00:45:11The Lord be with you.
00:45:18And also with you.
00:45:23Lift up your hearts.
00:45:27We lift them up to the Lord.
00:45:32Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
00:45:37It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
00:45:43Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,
00:45:47we do well always and everywhere to give You thanks
00:45:51through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
00:45:55Through His teaching and ministry,
00:45:58Jesus showed us how we are to live,
00:46:02giving our lives in service to You and all people.
00:46:07Still hearing His Word in our world today,
00:46:11we strive to follow His example
00:46:13and set our hearts on the world to come.
00:46:18Therefore, with the angels and archangels,
00:46:21with all the saints in the entire church,
00:46:24we lift our hymn of praise to Your glory,
00:46:28repeating unceasingly.
00:46:32Holy, holy, holy,
00:46:37Lord God above,
00:46:40the heavens and the earth
00:46:42are full of the majesty of Thy glory.
00:46:49Hosanna in the highest
00:46:54Blessed is He who comes
00:46:57in the name of the Lord
00:47:02Hosanna in the highest

00:47:12the canon of St. Hippolytus.
00:47:14Please kneel.
00:47:14We give thanks to You, God our Father,
00:47:22through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ,
00:47:25whom in these last days You have sent us
00:47:27as Savior, Redeemer, and Messenger of Your will.
00:47:31He is Your Word, inseparable from You.
00:47:33Through Him You have made all things,
00:47:35and in Him You were well pleased.
00:47:37You sent Him from heaven to a virgin's womb.
00:47:40There He dwelt and was made flesh.
00:47:42He was revealed as Your Son,
00:47:44born through the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin.
00:47:47When He suffered, He fulfilled Your will
00:47:49and gained for You a holy people.
00:47:51He stretched out His hands to free from suffering
00:47:54those who believed in You.
00:47:56When He was betrayed to His freely chosen suffering,
00:48:00thereby to destroy death,
00:48:02to break the chains of darkness,
00:48:04to crush hell beneath His feet,
00:48:06to give light to the just,
00:48:08to make a covenant,
00:48:08and to manifest His resurrection.
00:48:13He took bread.
00:48:16He gave you thanks and said,
00:48:19Take and eat.
00:48:22This is my body,
00:48:23which is broken for you.
00:48:38In like manner,
00:48:40He took the cup and said,
00:48:43This is my blood,
00:48:45which is poured out for you.
00:48:47Whenever you do this,
00:48:49do it in memory of me.
00:48:51calling then His death and resurrection to mine,
00:49:09we offer You the bread and the cup.
00:49:11We thank You for allowing us to come before You
00:49:14and to serve You.
00:49:16We ask You to send Your Holy Spirit
00:49:18upon the offering of Your Holy Church,
00:49:21to gather all in unity,
00:49:23grant to all who partake of these holy mysteries
00:49:25the fullness of the Holy Spirit
00:49:27for the strengthening of their faith in the truth.
00:49:31So may we praise and glorify You
00:49:33through Your Son, Jesus Christ.
00:49:40Through Him may glory and honor be Yours,
00:49:43with the Holy Spirit in Your Holy Church,
00:49:46now and forever and ever.
00:49:51Amen.
00:49:58Let us now rise and pray with confidence to the Father
00:50:02in the words our Savior gave us.
00:50:05Our Father, who art in heaven,
00:50:13hallowed be Thy name.
00:50:17Thy kingdom come,
00:50:21Thy will be done
00:50:25on earth as it is in heaven.
00:50:32Give us today our daily bread
00:50:39and forgive us our trespasses
00:50:44as we forgive those who trespass against us
00:50:52and lead us not into temptation,
00:50:59but deliver us from evil.
00:51:04Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
00:51:08and grant us peace in our day.
00:51:11In Your mercy, keep us free from sin
00:51:14and protect us from all anxiety
00:51:17as we wait in joyful hope
00:51:20for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
00:51:24The cup of blessing, which we bless,
00:51:41is it not a participation in the blood of Christ,
00:51:45the bread, which we break?
00:51:48Is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
00:51:52Christ, because there is one bread.
00:51:55We who are many are one body,
00:51:57for we all partake of the one bread.
00:52:00May the union of divinity and humanity
00:52:02in Jesus Christ bring us sanctification
00:52:05and eternal life.
00:52:08Amen.

00:52:12I leave You peace, My peace I give You.

00:52:16but on the faith of Your church
00:52:17and grant us the peace and unity of Your kingdom
00:52:21where You live forever and ever.

01:03:08O mercy, not easy, and silent as life, nor wandering, nor waning, thou rulest in mine.
01:03:22Thy justice, like mountains, thy story above, thy love, which are content, of goodness and love.
