00:00SA Police addressed the media a short time ago and they announced that they will be scaling
00:07back a search for a four-year-old boy in South Australia's Mid-North.
00:11Now four-year-old Gus was last seen on Saturday evening at his family's homestead about 40
00:17kilometres south of Yanta.
00:19He was playing in the sand and he was left alone for about 30 minutes.
00:23His grandmother went to check on him and when he wasn't there that's when they called in
00:27emergency services.
00:28It's understood the family search for about three hours and then it was about 9.30 at
00:33night when a police helicopter arrived and commenced the search.
00:36Now ever since Sunday morning this search has just rapidly increased.
00:40There's been a really large police presence, SES volunteers, mounted operations, water operations
00:47and even ADF personnel which we saw yesterday and in fact SA Police said today that this
00:52has been one of the largest and most intensive searches for a missing person in South Australia
00:57in recent times.
00:58Now just a little earlier Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott addressed the media where he said
01:03that despite the fact that they were all hoping for a miracle, a miracle has not eventuated
01:09in this case.
01:10They say that they are confident they have done everything they can to try and find this little
01:15way.
01:16Despite the professional advice it being unlikely that Gus would have survived, we have maintained
01:21and in fact increased the effort to try and locate him and bring him back to his family.
01:30Unfortunately at no point has there been any significant evidence that has enabled us to really focus
01:38in a direction for our search, give us any clues as to where he may have gone.
01:45Now Assistant Commissioner Parrott also said that they had spoken to Gus's family about
01:50every potential outcome based on scientific evidence about the survival of a four year old
01:55boy in this type of terrain and in the type of clothes he was wearing.
02:01They say that they're confident they've done everything they can and they're now having
02:04to scale back this search after about seven days.
02:07They say they'll continue to follow any lines of inquiry and continue this investigation.
02:13They say every piece of information to date shows that this little boy has just wandered
02:18off and at this stage there is still no suggestion of anything suspicious in his disappearance.
02:23They say that it appears to be, you know, a tragic set of circumstances and they hold out hope
02:28that they still can find Gus and return him to his family.
02:32They say although there might not be as strong of a presence on this property in South Australia's
02:37Mid-North, they say they're now going to pursue an investigation process and they say that
02:42police will not sleep or rest until they find this boy and bring him back to his family.
