The devastated family of a missing four-year-old boy has released a statement saying it's holding out hope he'll be returned safely. The statement comes as police and volunteers continue to search for the young boy in South Australia’s remote mid-north.

00:00With aching hearts, little Gus's family break their silence.
00:07It's a pretty, pretty hard time.
00:11The four-year-old was last seen playing outside his home
00:15on the family's vast and isolated sheep station
00:18near Yunta in the Mid-North on Saturday afternoon.
00:22A friend speaking on behalf of the family says they're shocked and devastated.
00:27Gus's absence is felt in all of us and we miss him more than words can express.
00:34Police and emergency services continue to comb the area,
00:38calling in aircraft, trail bikes, dogs, horses, drones
00:43and more than 100 personnel searching dams and using infrared technology at night.
00:49Police continue to believe he's on the property, but there's been no sign of him.
00:54What we're really trying to find is some type of clue to where,
01:00what direction he was going, he was travelling.
01:02Gus was wearing a top like this when he was last seen.
01:06He's described as Caucasian with long blonde curly hair.
01:10As the desperate hunt stretches on, there's growing concern for the four-year-old's welfare.
01:15But with milder weather conditions, police remain hopeful search crews will find Gus safe
01:21and get him medical attention.
01:24We're hoping that he's just crawled up underneath a bush somewhere
01:28and just stay put and just conserving some energy.
01:31His family also hoping for a breakthrough.
01:35We are holding on to hope that he will be found and returned safely.
01:41That hope shared by all on the ground in a remote corner of SA.
