00:00Okay, and I asked you just straight up, you didn't have anything to do with this, did you?
00:11I don't like that type of crap.
00:14You don't like the type of crap where people get gunned down?
00:18The couple was found shot to death on the porch of their Willard home.
00:22Did you know what she did?
00:24No, I didn't.
00:25Don't hold back now.
00:27You're not good at lying.
00:30This is a lot like a football game.
00:32We're the Chiefs.
00:33You're on a junior high team right now.
00:35You need to pick which team you're going to be on.
00:38Because if you don't do what's right, it's going to get brutal for you.
00:42You need to pick which team you're going to be on.
00:49You're on a junior high team.
00:52You're on a junior high team.
01:26When I arrived, there was two people on the front porch and blood everywhere.
01:36Both victims looked as though they had been shot and were obviously deceased.
01:43The reporting party told me that they had a daughter, so I wanted to check for more victims inside the house.
01:50She was found in the bathroom of the home, uninjured.
02:00Alex had several gunshot wounds to the head.
02:16Brianna had two gunshot wounds.
02:18Alex had an empty holster on his right side and a Glock handgun laying between them near his right hand.
02:30There was an idea that he might have expected that there was going to be a problem, that he was going to have to defend himself.
02:35It was fully loaded, so we knew it wasn't a murder weapon.
02:40But I noticed a large amount of 9mm shell casings in and around the victims' bodies.
02:47There was a police officer who lived near the crime scene who realized that he had a doorbell camera.
02:53When that was reviewed, it did find the gunshots of the attack at 121 a.m.
03:00I heard what sounded to be 10 gunshots in a cadence of five.
03:21A small break and then five more gunshots.
03:27None of them overlapped.
03:30This led me to believe that there was a single shooter.
03:39Someone else has surveillance cameras near their driveway.
03:44We were able to see a small economy-style vehicle around the same time as the murderers.
03:55We weren't able to see the license plate or the color of the vehicle because it was at night.
03:59But that was a big piece of evidence.
04:01So, the reason we're here is that the police received a report this morning, which concerns Alexander's house.
04:23I don't have a lot of details right now.
04:24I don't have a lot of details right now.
04:37So, just take a second to process that.
04:39That's a lot of information.
04:40She didn't say anything.
04:43She didn't ask about her daughter.
04:47She didn't ask any questions about the crime.
04:52Sometimes, the sound of silence speaks louder than a thousand words.
05:03Do you know anything about any of that?
05:05No, I was working all night.
05:12And you, just to be clear, what was your shift last night?
05:17Last night was 6 p.m. until 1.30-ish.
05:23We usually stay and hang out for a little bit.
05:25And when I got home, I was exhausted.
05:28Right.
05:28It didn't take long before I fell asleep.
05:30When was the last time you had any contact with Alex from Terry Steele?
05:37Sunday, October 18th was the last time I spoke to him.
05:41When I went home.
05:43And then have you had any contact with Rihanna?
05:45I've never even met her.
05:46Okay.
05:48She didn't seem shocked.
05:51She didn't seem worried or concerned.
05:53It was suspicious.
06:00Alex and Teresa were not on good terms.
06:11There were associated claims regarding mistreatment of their daughter
06:15that each was making against the other.
06:25There's a light going on.
06:27There we go.
06:27Good.
06:27Okay.
06:29Come seat.
06:30All right.
06:32And.
06:37See your agreement there.
06:41Yep.
06:42Let me show you the part.
06:43Sure.
06:47There is that part.
06:48Every Sunday at 8 a.m.
06:49He's supposed to bring her to me.
06:51I texted him and said, I'm here where we normally do the exchange.
06:54And he said, CPS is ordering him not to give the child over.
07:00He didn't say.
07:01I plan on also having him prosecuted for violating court order as well.
07:05I don't know what he's trying to accomplish with this.
07:09Okay.
07:10All right.
07:11Follow me.
07:11Okay.
07:11Okay.
07:11Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:12Okay.
07:13Okay.
07:13Okay.
07:14Okay.
07:14Okay.
07:15Okay.
07:16Okay.
07:16Okay.
07:17Okay.
07:18Okay.
07:18Okay.
07:19Okay.
07:20Okay.
07:20Okay.
07:20Okay.
07:21Okay.
07:22Okay.
07:22Okay.
07:23Okay.
07:24And then there was a subpoena that was served on Teresa's phone number.
07:45Text messages were discovered between her and Mixie that appeared to be planning the homicide.
07:50Mixie was talking about needing to get her head in the right space for what's going to happen tomorrow,
08:03which was sent on Thursday when the homicide occurred overnight on Friday.
08:07Also, it had previous messages between her and Mixie.
08:12Mixie is confronting Teresa and saying, you want me to kill someone?
08:19And Teresa seems like the mastermind.
08:21I think she realized Mixie was willing to do things for her and was able to manipulate Mixie
08:28into pulling the trigger and killing Alex and Brianna.
08:30When I think of Alex, the first word that comes to my mind is funny.
08:38His spirit was lighthearted, friendly.
08:43He was always ready with a kind word.
08:47In his youthful days, he was a little bit geeky.
08:51As he grew bigger, he became physically active and then followed, eventually, in my footsteps and joined the Army.
09:00No matter how big he got, he was still my little boy.
09:03Brianna was like a sister to me.
09:08She was pretty feisty.
09:10She was just going to take on the world and no one was going to tell her no.
09:14She worked three jobs just to be able to afford the house that she bought.
09:18She was so caring and she loved children.
09:22She talked about Alex's daughter as if she were her own.
09:26Alex and Brianna met at a pizza parlor and he said it was instant love.
09:33Alex just talked about his future with Bri and having other children.
09:38He was so happy.
09:56You probably heard about what happened up in Willard.
10:05I've heard a little bit.
10:07That's pretty much it.
10:08So you work with Teresa?
10:09Is that what it is?
10:10Yeah.
10:11So what happened Friday night then?
10:12You guys were working together?
10:13Yeah.
10:14She was there until, what was it?
10:161.30?
10:17Uh huh.
10:18Yeah.
10:191.30 and then went home.
10:22What time did you guys close that night?
10:24Uh, I didn't get out of there until 4 o'clock.
10:27Did her girlfriend show up that day?
10:29Not that I remember.
10:32Okay.
10:33Is there anything different about Teresa that Friday night?
10:36No.
10:37She, I mean, she was upset because she couldn't see her kid.
10:47Matt told me that tree was with him until they all left at 4.10.
10:53And her girlfriend got there about like 2.
10:56Oh my God.
10:57Interesting.
11:03So Matt said to the police that Teresa went home after work.
11:08And Matt told you Teresa hung out with him all night.
11:12And then he took her home.
11:14I don't know why he would have said opposite things, but tree was there just as late as he was.
11:25Her girlfriend didn't get there until, um, a little earlier before they left.
11:31Okay, so you're 100% sure that Matt took, um, Teresa and her girlfriend home.
11:40Yeah.
11:42It was obvious that someone was lying.
11:45It did not seem like Ariel was in any way involved in this.
11:52But we believed that Matthew Plum could be hiding something.
11:59Hi.
12:00How are you?
12:01Hi, how are you?
12:02How are you?
12:03How are you?
12:04Hi, how are you?
12:05Thanks for coming in, brother.
12:06Not a problem.
12:07I'm Shannon Shipley.
12:08I'm the son that called you on the phone.
12:09Um, I appreciate you coming in.
12:10Um, okay.
12:11Um, so, um, I'm going to ask you just straight up.
12:16Bet you didn't have anything to do with this, did you?
12:32my daughter katie i heard her crying in the living room pretty uncontrollably and i heard
12:48her move closer to my bedroom just screaming crying she's like mom sit down sit down it's
12:55alex and she goes he's dead you could have just knocked me over with a feather it was the worst day
13:06of my life you might know that i talked to ariel on on saturday some of the things that she told me
13:24you told her versus what you told the other officers didn't quite match did she tell you
13:31that a little bit a little bit and so friday what happened friday night trees that her car was
13:36breaking down she came in and told me that she had to let it sit because the transmission was
13:42overheating or getting hot or something i don't i didn't really
13:47did you ever listen to somebody say their transmission's hot ever in your life somebody
13:54said my transmission's really hot that's it kind of okay no it's kind of funny to me but i just let
14:03it go and went on with my job what i'm taking is she just didn't want to drive no more because she
14:08wasn't getting very good tips or whatever she just wanted to work inside what happened she was doing
14:14doing my dough prep uh helping me clean up every once in a while she'd make a couple pizzas and
14:20then around 12 30 one o'clock we got one last delivery and my closing driver took that one and
14:29and then she left each time he would tell even a small lie he would kind of wave his light off by
14:46giving me the hand signal i just lied to you whenever he gave me that signal i knew to keep following that
14:54trail so there were no visitors that night correct not that i remember there was one time her
15:05girlfriend came up there but i didn't see her after that that's a visitor that was like around
15:10five o'clock that afternoon so between two and four ten when you checked out nobody came by
15:18not that i remember because like i said i was busy doing everything what happened then my nephew had
15:28my truck and i called him to come pick me up when i was able to get off work my nephew took me home
15:37apparently tree and her girlfriend was at my house i got there and they were there they just showed up at
15:46your house in the middle of the night they walked over something i don't know but she lives 30 minutes
15:52away so how would she show up on foot that doesn't make sense i didn't ask
15:58don't hold back anymore because i can see you i can see you are you're not you may think so but you're
16:08not good at lying he really wants to keep lying and i keep cutting him off i want him to
16:16know i only want to hear the truth and as i keep pursuing that it pushes him into a corner
16:22to make a decision is it time to tell the truth am i going to be able to get out of this
16:28so i took them home so i can go to bed
16:32hmm you forgot that you took them home yeah i was that's a big thing to forget
16:39i was sleepy tired i was so tired anyway i didn't even remember sure
16:45and uh so how was uh theresa and uh her girlfriend acting
16:53actually just like i think norman was i mean she was upset about her car but at the head
16:59yesterday you and i had a conversation on your porch remember what i told you when we were standing
17:05there what did i tell you to be completely honest with you you like football oh yeah okay
17:11so this is a lot like a football game and what we're doing we're the chiefs
17:16theresa and mixy are on a junior high team right now
17:19you need to pick which team you're going to be on because it's going to get brutal for you
17:26if you don't do what's right i'm not choosing their team you had conversations with them that
17:32you're not telling us that's not true that's not true regular people when you tell them that
17:40they're lying will get very upset nobody wants to be called a liar it doesn't bother him one bit
17:46because he knows it's true if there's something you think you're going to be in trouble for
17:50you need to be the first one to talk about it because the first person that talks gets the best deal
17:55whatever's in your mind right now you need to tell us
18:01mixy showed up at work right around
18:09two o'clock just after tree left she was a little bit nervous about something she was
18:16distraught i told her to sit down and i'll see if i can find tree how do you know she's looking for
18:24theresa because i put two and two together on that what did mixy tell you she was saying
18:31something about she did something horrible did you already know did you know what she did no i
18:37didn't you put two and two together i didn't know i'm hoping she didn't i don't like that type of crap
18:44you don't like the type of crap where people get gunned down no i don't yeah i don't like that
18:49either i think there's a lot more to this conversation than you're letting us know still
18:53she didn't really tell me is it because you already knew what she did she didn't have to tell you
18:59do you know it was going to happen that was a yes that was yes it was okay so you already knew
19:04you're worried you're worried you're going to be in trouble because you knew it was going to happen
19:17you didn't do anything you tell this lady exactly what happened and don't hold back now this is it
19:24the head goes down and we know that he's getting ready to give us some significant information
19:35but he's having a hard time saying it yes absolutely not in here you gotta go outside
19:42the cigarette break it's a calculated risk could it be a chance for a person to decide that they don't
19:51want to do this anymore yes but sometimes leaving the interview room is also a stress reducer
19:58about two weeks ago before this happened okay
20:07asking me i knew where she could get a throwaway
20:12talk about theresa yeah okay i told her no i don't sure
20:18about a day later she tells me that she has a gun she was upset about everything going on right
20:29um
20:31and then she started talking to me about
20:37wanting to do it on a certain day i'm like well if you're actually going to do it
20:45do it but i don't really want involved if you're going to be at work hey there's your alibi right
20:54i'm same one on tip so i was going with the alibi so why did bixie come back to the store
21:03because that was you that was the plan i guess for her to borrow tree's car
21:10but go do it come back to the store and then pick tree up come up get the car and go home
21:19what did they do it again that i can't even know teresa was looking for a way that she could
21:26carry out the homicides and avoid any consequences you can see that in the setting up the alibi with
21:34matt plum she manipulates all the pieces she didn't care who even among her friends got hurt carrying out
21:41what she wanted to do
21:46okay
21:48so the plan was that something that you and teresa discussed teresa discussed with me the plan and was
21:57mixy any part of that plan that you heard that you saw or was it just you and teresa just me and tree
22:03okay so it was part of the plan then for mixy to do the terrible thing okay so teresa clocked in at
22:12what time i think it was six when tree coming in told me her car was messing out yeah her car wasn't
22:20messed up yeah right we know that she was she was doing deliveries and at like a certain point
22:30then she backed up and she stopped because because mixy took her car mixy didn't come back with the car
22:38until like 1 30. she went out got get it mixy come in that's when i was setting her come trying to calm her down
22:47keep her out of the way i asked her what what it was but and she told you because you knew the plan i
22:55i couldn't under i couldn't understand what she was saying because she was so hysterical and stuff
23:00but she did calm down she calmed down a little bit
23:02she told me that
23:04she killed him
23:07she killed him
23:09or
23:11i guess she doesn't she killed both of them
23:14and mixy didn't tell you how they got on the porch
23:16i
23:17didn't ask
23:19i didn't even want to know
23:21because it was already too much for me
23:25did they ask you no
23:27i told them not no
23:29now that you now that you're you know telling the truth and being honest
23:33you know omission is a form of deceit too
23:37so if you've not told us stuff that we're going to find out that's that would be bad
23:42the gps is going to show that i went driving around before i went home
23:48just to clear my mind
23:52where'd you go
23:52i went to rutledge ridge uh walkways
23:56and i sat out there for a while
23:58what'd you do
24:01i just sat in the truck
24:02what were you thinking about
24:05why i even
24:10agreed to it
24:12there's something more
24:15go ahead and hit me with it
24:16i think i'm sorry what is it
24:17i told theresa if you wanted to get rid of a gun
24:20rutledge wilson was
24:23a good place to go
24:25that's why i drove down there
24:27to see
24:28make sure she wasn't down there
24:30rutledge wilson farm park
24:35is a working farm that is a park in springfield
24:40it's heavily covered with trees and foliage
24:43a good place to dump a murder weapon
24:46if you get rid of the gun
24:49tell us now
24:50i didn't get rid of it
24:52okay well here's the thing
24:54if mixy trees
24:55say anything like hey look
24:57i gave him the gun to get rid of
24:59that's gonna be bad
25:01dude if you took that gun
25:03i get it
25:03i understand that
25:05other people will understand that
25:07but what they won't understand is
25:08if you went all this way
25:09and then didn't come clean 100%
25:12if you got rid of the gun
25:14please don't hold back
25:16if you did that
25:17okay so mixy did she use it again when she came in or what i don't know how it ended up in my truck
25:38you just saw your truck
25:39yeah i found it
25:40yeah i found it
25:40where was it
25:41it was sitting underneath my back passenger seat
25:45hmm
25:46okay
25:47and you know where it's at now
25:49i saw you exactly where it's at
25:50is it outside
25:52it's in the water
25:54it's in the water
25:56okay
25:56well we can go for a ride
25:59you can show us where you pitched it
26:00would that be okay
26:02you were gonna be in some trouble
26:07okay
26:07but dude i'm telling you right now
26:10honesty
26:10helps you
26:12what kind of trouble am i looking at
26:14it depends
26:16you're being helpful now
26:17we got in the car
26:21and matt took us to the location where he had thrown both the gun and the magazine
26:27as soon as we were at the location the missouri state highway patrol dive team was able to locate the gun
26:37the firearm matched the serial number that uh theresa cox had reported as stolen
26:43finding the gun was big
26:45it was a direct tie of the murder weapon back to theresa cox
26:49the evidence showed that he aided theresa with the intent to further the homicide
27:00she was able to manipulate matt plum into disposing of the murder weapon
27:05theresa frankly is the mastermind it doesn't happen without her
27:09we learned there was a friend who had helped him buy hair dye and told the police that they were in fugitive mode
27:26it became apparent that theresa and mixy were on the run
27:30we learned they hitched a ride with the trucker into joplin and left the state
27:42we were offered aid from the u.s marshals
27:45they told me in no uncertain terms
27:50we will get your gun
27:54we obtained a search warrant for theresa cox's residence
28:01we located a portable safe in the closet
28:05we found the smith and wesson handgun magazine
28:09the casings had s and b 9 by 19 20
28:14the same head stamp found at the crime scene
28:16also we received information from theresa cox's phone
28:20her internet search history was showing things like
28:22what's the easiest way to kill people
28:24how do you report a gun stolen
28:26and then you also have things about how to go on the run
28:29she had searches for alexander shoots and brianna sprawl's residence
28:33which showed 41 photos of their house
28:36it seemed that she had been planning the murders for quite some time
28:40theresa had a 2014 red chevy spark
28:54which has a very distinctive profile
28:57when i looked at the vehicle in the video
29:01it looked exactly like a chevy spark
29:05our case is going from a very very strong circumstantial evidence case
29:12to a hard evidence case
29:13at that point
29:30mixy's taken into custody
29:32and the marshals reach out to let our office know
29:35that they also had theresa
29:36theresa didn't want to speak without her lawyer present
29:51and so an interview with theresa wasn't ever established
29:54but mixy was willing to speak with us
29:58we wanted to establish more evidence against theresa that theresa was pressuring mixy to do this
30:12um a lot has gone down in a little bit of time
30:16and everybody is scared
30:20everybody is pointing at you mixy
30:24you are going to have one opportunity to put your side of the story out there
30:30people that you thought were your friends
30:34are not your friends
30:35they are all scared and they are all singing like canaries
30:39all right
30:41they want you to take the whole heat for this
30:45and i know thats not true
30:48right now you are the only advocate for yourself
31:04i am not supposed to say anything
31:13you are kind of at a crossroads
31:15where you have to make a decision for yourself
31:18do you want to protect matt and tree
31:22or do you want to clarify how this thing came to birth
31:26i already got everybody else's side of it
31:30and i know that if it wasn't for pressure from tree
31:37this thing would have never happened
31:39would have never happened
31:43so you tell me what you want to do
31:48there ain't nothing i can say
31:53what kind of relationship do you and theresa have
31:57my best friend
32:00any more than that
32:02a lot more i mean
32:05i loved her
32:07do you still love theresa
32:09yes
32:11that's never going to change
32:14and i miss tree
32:16just one thing is to be back to normal
32:20i don't believe that normal is coming back
32:25um tell me about
32:27the pressure
32:28that you were being placed under by theresa
32:31i don't want to
32:33go into any of this
32:35and i'm still confused about a lot of things
32:39are you confused about um how you got drug into this
32:46a lot of times yeah
32:48how do you think you got drug into this
32:50i don't know
32:54it was going to be a battle getting mixy to roll on theresa because she was so in love with her
33:04so i'm going to have to change to focus on matthew's participation
33:09i don't want to waste your time
33:12i already wrote the reports
33:14nothing about this
33:16thing is pleasant
33:17what i need is a confirmation
33:20that um matt is being truthful in what he's saying because he's throwing everybody he can under the bus
33:28to um get himself some kind of sweetheart deal right now
33:33i don't think anybody's going to be truthful in this situation
33:37you're probably right
33:38are you
33:40i have no reason to lie
33:43why is that
33:45i just don't i'm not a liar
33:47then i guess
33:48it comes down to
33:50what part did everybody play in this
33:54i guess that's the part that nobody knows then
33:58all of a sudden
34:01i don't want to do this conversation anymore
34:04okay
34:05that's all right
34:06but
34:07you're screwing yourself
34:10as long as terese okay
34:12terese is not going to be okay
34:16let her know i love her
34:17mikxie was done talking that day
34:29but didn't close the door for subsequent interviews
34:32reviews are you cold no i'm just shaking okay i'm just shaking okay
35:02can i ask you what pronouns you like to go by she her and if there's something you don't
35:07want to answer you don't have to answer i guess you can stop at any time you want i guess i'll
35:12chitchat for a little bit all right uh so uh when did you meet theresa mixing early july
35:20she just saw me sitting there by myself one day and she came up there she sat down and started
35:25talking to me and uh you know she admitted to me that people said to kind of steer clear of me
35:31because i was weird and she didn't really want to listen to him she wouldn't give me a chance
35:36so that's where we started we became pretty good friends from there thank you so i wanted to show
35:43her that i was professional and that she was being respected i want her to fill at ease after that
35:50then i can ask direct questions i did choir for a little bit i don't know i'm interested
35:55for a very good student art was really my only good subject
35:59i think you have a story that people don't understand
36:04i'm reading stuff on facebook and people are saying negative stuff about you they're saying
36:11really rotten stuff about you and i don't think they know the whole story and i don't think it's fair
36:16i don't know anything about any of that how did you find out that alex had been killed
36:34no sir okay do you know who did no sir i don't know anything about any of that how did you find
36:45out that alex had been killed the news what did it make you feel i didn't know what to feel
36:53with alex i had asked teresa before if i could get to know him but she uh i never really got the
37:00opportunity to why not she said he wasn't trustworthy and was a bad guy and so i was wanting
37:07to eventually sit down and get all whatever their bad blood was worked out but it just never worked
37:15out that way and why was there blood between them she told me a lot of things she told me he used to
37:23beat on her and he'd tell everybody it was because he had ptsd you ever think to yourself i wish alex
37:29would just go away no it was not my place to think things like that did teresa think that
37:36i don't know i mean she didn't like him teresa took every opportunity to sway people to maneuver
37:47their feelings about alex to cause him to be a villain in their eyes and to favor her
37:57why do you think someone would harm alex i don't know why was someone harm brian i have no clue why
38:07someone let her if you had to name the real true victims in all this who do you think the real true
38:12victims are i have no clue i don't know how to answer that question i'm sorry
38:18it makes you tell me why you could have done this
38:22because it's just not me it's just not a thing that i'm willing to do
38:31for someone that had no involvement it's a real quick answer i didn't do it because i wasn't in
38:38willard uh because i had no ill will against alex uh because i had no firearm but if they did do it
38:45they have to convince you that they weren't part of this and at this point mixy waffles a little bit
38:51i was out getting drunk with my friends anyway who were you drinking with that night
38:57i think i'm done with questions i just want to go back up to myself
39:05there was a recording that brianna took on her cell phone on the night of the murder
39:32you can hear her talking to someone i recognize the voice to be mixy's voice
39:37um i can call him if you want to do that
39:54i just try to reveal it to you guys in person let me call him and see when he's going to be home
40:00mixy was luring alex back home he was originally supposed to work from 4 p.m till midnight but he
40:08left an hour early he told a co-worker that his girlfriend brianna was alone and he was afraid for
40:13her and that's why he had a handgun on him that the crime scene
40:17the first of three suspects charged with killing a willard couple has pleaded guilty to his role in
40:25the double murder matthew plump took a deal from prosecutors and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to
40:30commit a felony and tampering with evidence
40:44i just want to begin by saying i'm sorry to the pain and i'm sorry to alex and brandon
40:51knew what was wrong on the way there i was asking myself what the hell am i doing
40:55theresa cox pleaded guilty to first degree murder second degree murder and two counts of
41:04armed criminal action cox addressed the court but didn't show any remorse while she was being
41:10sentenced she was making claims that whatever she did she did for the daughter i love her and
41:15everything i've ever done is to give her the best life i could her safety security and happiness are
41:20ready forever in this life as for the future i wish to pursue her dreams and have the utmost success
41:28lastly i hope she and i will have a relationship no matter where where we are both at if she so
41:34desires thank you cox was sentenced but not before shoot's family said their piece i couldn't believe
41:40that she was capable of something that suffice to say she is the face of evil my one wish is that she
41:48gets everything she deserves and more because she is a psychopath
41:57teresa cox was pure evil she was somehow able to convince her co-workers to carry out murder but
42:09we were able to bring some measure of justice to the family
42:20we get to keep a little piece of him alive through her
42:25that was alex's baby girl and he loved her so much all brianna wanted to do was love her like she
42:32was her own i miss so much about brianna i miss everything about her
