00:00We do this at this time.
00:01C.J. Stroud's great.
00:02We got our Hall of Fame quarterback right here.
00:06The hair was on point during the speech.
00:08I saw it.
00:09It was flowing there.
00:09I saw what you were trying to put together there.
00:12It's embodied, doesn't it?
00:14It's just thick, brother.
00:15It's healthy, isn't it?
00:16But text in your thoughts.
00:18I see somebody said, rookie season C.J. Stroud showed up on Sunday.
00:23What was your grade?
00:24Again, C.J. Stroud, 28 of 23.
00:27233, two touchdowns, no turnovers, no interceptions, quarterback rating of 120.
00:35That's his best rating since the Cleveland Browns playoff game his rookie year.
00:40Four carries, 11 yards rushing.
00:43Clint, how would you grade C.J. Stroud?
00:47I gave C.J. Stroud an A.
00:49Yeah.
00:50Not an A-minus, not an A-plus.
00:51I gave C.J. Stroud an A.
00:54Look, that was a game that it was fairly obvious fairly early that if you just played
01:02a mistake-free game, you were going to win that game one way or another.
01:05And as you said in the last segment, you had to win that sucker.
01:08Yeah.
01:08Even if it was 6 or 12 to nothing, you got to win that football game somehow, some way,
01:14and get away from this losing streak, right?
01:16So, I think C.J. Stroud's play probably was dictated by the kind of game that it, again,
01:24that it was very quickly obvious that it was going to be.
01:27And 22 of 28 for 233 and two touchdowns is exactly what you want from C.J. Stroud.
01:35I don't recall the ball being put in harm's way one time.
01:38All right.
01:40I think two of three shots that he took were on the money.
01:46The go ball down the sideline, which shifted the whole game to Nico Collins,
01:50and the check that he threw to Higgins for a touchdown.
01:55You mentioned the other one.
01:57He missed Dalton Schultz, or he threw it in between the outside receiver and Dalton Schultz.
02:01I'm not real sure whose fault it was, but you just flat out can't miss those.
02:05I think if he hits that, this game goes totally different.
02:07By the way, I think they run him up out of there pretty quick.
02:10That was a painful miss.
02:13But I think that was his only in the entire game, right?
02:17I mean, he was unbelievably patient.
02:19He mentioned the death by 1,000 cuts is the style of offense that they want to play.
02:24And that's what he – it looked like he bought in for one week.
02:28And he bought in.
02:30It was boring.
02:31It was simple, stupid.
02:32And then when he had the opportunity to hit him where it hurts, he hit him.
02:37I thought he used Dalton Schultz in the underneath game, six targets, five catches.
02:42I thought he used the running backs, but really Woody Marks again underneath on some catches
02:46and was extremely patient and then just dropped dimes when he had the opportunity with the exceptional one.
02:52So, I just – I don't think C.J. Stroud, given what was presented to him, I don't know that he could have handled this situation
03:01or played any better than he did.
03:04Again, with the exception of the Dalton Schultz miss in the first half, man, that was about as clean a game
03:10as you're going to get from C.J. Stroud.
03:14And I know people don't want to hear this wrong.
03:16We talked about it last night in the postgame.
03:17Now, you'd like to do it against a better opponent, but ideally, that's what this offense is going to look like.
03:26This offense is going to – they're going to be okay with not making – when they know that the other team's offense can't score,
03:31they're not going to be overly aggressive.
03:33Which will be the majority of the games they play.
03:35Yeah.
03:35I mean, hopefully, yeah.
03:36I mean, that is – that's how this – they're going to be very comfortable in a 6-0, 12-0 game
03:43against anybody and everybody out there with minimizing, you know, the risk with the ball,
03:49with not taking sacks, not getting behind the chains.
03:51They're going to be – that is what the Knick is designed to look like is what we watch.
03:58Now, again, it needs to happen against better opponents, and it hasn't.
04:01But ideally, that's what you want it to look like is, hey, CJ, beat Tom Brady for 95% of the game
04:09and then show us that ball placement specialist in the mid-range to deep game three or four times.
04:16And that's how they're going to win games.
04:18And so that's – I mean, I gave him an A, Ron.
04:20I thought he was really, really good in a lot of spaces.
04:27I know when you look at his numbers, it wasn't, you know, 300 yards.
04:32It wasn't, you know, three touchdowns.
04:35It wasn't, you know, that.
04:36There wasn't a lot of, you know, big play.
04:39Really, they erupted in the fourth quarter, not a lot of big plays around.
04:42But listen, I'm in the A range as well.
04:46He took a lot of shots and got right back up.
04:50He was able to work through some of the deficiencies on his team.
04:54And he was mature enough to take the throws.
04:59And you could almost see it.
05:01He wanted to go downfield.
05:02You could almost see it in him.
05:05He wanted to go downfield, but he took them.
05:07And he used Dalton Schultz in a way that Dalton Schultz can be used.
05:11And it's right there as an outlet.
05:13And Dalton Schultz, several times, four to eight yards, he was getting –
05:17and it was easy.
05:18And he was decisive on his throws.
05:21Woody Marks as well.
05:22Nick Chubb as well.
05:24You know, they were able to get, you know, one, two-yard dump-offs
05:28that they turned into to, you know, plays where it's second and eight
05:31or it's a first down.
05:34And then, as you've said, he took the shots when he needed to
05:40and when they were available.
05:42And that is the way they got to play.
05:45And as you said, now he's got to be consistent with it.
05:47But that's the way they got to play.
05:49And he did.
05:50He looked like he knew the game plan and was able to kind of go with what the plan was.
05:57Well, Ron, he's got – he's the one that's got to buy into it.
06:00Because I'll be honest with you, and I don't have any inside source, obviously.
06:03But I affirm – Nick Cayley looks at that game and goes –
06:06That's it.
06:06He didn't go, man, it was the Titans.
06:08He goes, man, that's what I want it to look like.
06:10That's what I want it to look like.
06:11Stay ahead of the chains.
06:13Stay in third and fourth and short.
06:15Now they had to go convert four – I mean, three, fourth, and shorts.
06:18I'd rather you not do it.
06:19Let's go ahead and get our conversions on third down,
06:21which they did by the end of the game.
06:22But it was sketchy early.
06:24Let's take care of some of that stuff.
06:26But that's exactly what Nick Cayley wants this thing to look like, man.
06:29And, look, I mean, CJ's got to buy in.
06:33You know, CJ's got to buy in this week.
06:35I know you're playing a Baltimore team that's got some injuries.
06:38Boy, do they.
06:39The approach has to be somewhat the same.
06:41Defensively, you've got to feel like with Lamar Jackson out that you can hold
06:45them down and you've got to minimize the risk on the offensive side of the
06:49football and just slowly kind of step away from them.
06:51You know, that's got to be the plan.
06:53Now we'll see what unfolds.
06:55But that's got to be the plan.
06:56And CJ's got to commit week in, week out the way he did this week.
06:59Text line coming in.
07:01A-.
07:01He got sloppy with the snap count and almost got killed.
07:05Text line B-.
07:06Didn't get going until the second half.
07:09Missed two wide open targets.
07:10One-four potential touchdown.
07:12Bill texting in.
07:15CJ missing wide open Dalton Schultz for a touchdown.
07:19I mean, you're going to miss some, right?
07:21What other miss did he have?
07:24Oh, he only missed six throws.
07:26Yeah.
07:28I don't know.
07:29Maybe they're referencing some people that were open.
07:31He didn't pull the trigger on.
07:32The Dalton one is the one that stands out.
07:34I think Ross Tucker may have said another one in the call somewhere.
07:39I re-watched it again this morning.
07:41He may have said something in the call.
07:43The Dalton Schultz one is the one that really jumps out.
07:47But, no, I mean, listen.
07:48You're going to miss some throws.
07:49And, yes, when you're playing better opponents, damage you need those.
07:54But I thought he managed the game and what the game was really well.
07:59Yeah.
08:00I mean, you know, I thought he did a hell of a job.
08:02But, look, I mean, let's be honest.
08:04I mean, the margin for error with CJ Stroud is larger than most, right?
08:09I mean, right now, this defense is going to play tremendous.
08:13And when I say margin of error, I mean, you know, if you miss one throw,
08:16if you come back and hit the next two shots on a go ball down the sideline
08:19and a seam route for a touchdown, I'll take that two of three.
08:22I'll take that 66% all day on balls that are thrown over 25,
08:2620, 25 yards down the field, right?
08:28Yeah, CJ Stroud needs to hit the first one.
08:30No doubt about it.
08:31He's better than that, right?
08:32That's on him.
08:33That's not about heat.
08:34That's not about training camp.
08:36It's not about lack of options.
08:37He's got to hit that throw.
08:39But two of three shots is damn good.
08:43I mean, that is good.
08:44But, yeah, I'll give him an A on that.
08:46Thanks, Bill.
08:50Shout out to you, Bill.
08:51Big Bill.
08:53Thanks, Bill.
