Douglas on postgame- "I always smile!"
Transcript
00:00Morning, Pop.
00:02Good morning.
00:03How you doing?
00:04I'm doing good. How about yourself?
00:06Doing great.
00:07You guys have had a week to look at film on that loss and practice
00:12and listen to Mike Rabel and the coaches.
00:14What's been the predominant message this week for you guys?
00:21I say, you know, moving home.
00:24You know, that game, the trash is over.
00:27Time to move on to the Pampers.
00:31We got an Edelman phone, AAF phone situation.
00:37I don't know how this happens every single week.
00:40It's wild.
00:40It's in the bowels of Gillette, I think.
00:41You think it is?
00:42Yeah.
00:43Where are you, Pop?
00:43Are you in the weight room or where are you right now?
00:46Yeah, I'm in Gillette.
00:47I'm right outside the stadium.
00:49Okay.
00:49That sounds good.
00:50Okay.
00:51So I need that again because you disappeared for a moment.
00:56But go ahead.
00:56Give me it again.
00:57What was the message this week?
01:00You know, move on, you know, next week, man.
01:03You just got to move on and on to the next week and on to the Panthers.
01:09Okay.
01:09Pop, talk a little bit.
01:11I know there's been a lot of, you know, questioning going on last week's game about that last play.
01:15Now, I don't know, like, heading out of the huddle pre-snap, are you aware of where the sticks are every time you step out of the huddle?
01:25And was that a route that we, was that a route that maybe you probably should have took past the sticks?
01:31Um, I have, that's like a two, three-yard route.
01:37I'm, I'm like right at the sticks.
01:40I probably should have took it probably one more revolution, probably one more yard, you know, if I was going to try to make that type of move.
01:48Mm-hmm.
01:49Should I say?
01:50Pop, it's easy for us to watch and fans to watch and say, why didn't he do this?
01:56Why didn't he do that?
01:56But when you're in the moment, what was going through your mind and why did you choose to go the way you did?
02:02Uh, it's, uh, to make a play.
02:04As soon as I, uh, you know, I came back for the ball, it kind of pushed me back a revolution.
02:09So that's when I answer, you know, uh, I'm somewhere around it because I know I was at the sticks.
02:16And then I came back for the ball, got it, and then I was supposed to go forward.
02:21And that definitely was me definitely supposed to go forward.
02:24But knife, uh, that was me trying to make a play.
02:26That was me trying to make a play more than it should have been.
02:29Pop, I think, uh, what was a frustrating component to that was that it appeared after the game that you were smiling about it.
02:38Was that, were you just, uh, is that just sort of a default mechanism that you don't really know what to say,
02:43so you just try to make light of it?
02:45Or did that, you know, did that frustrate you all week after being unable to get the first down?
02:52Wait, say that again?
02:53After the game, when you were talking to the media, you were, there was some laughs and you were smiling about the play.
02:58And it rubbed some Patriots fans the wrong way because they felt like you weren't as angry as they were following the fourth down.
03:06Yeah, I mean, I was mad about it, but I can't let that steal my joy.
03:13You know, uh, there's always going to be a smile on my face, you know, I felt like I was blessed with to smile.
03:20And I always smile regardless of, you know, a lot of things.
03:23I smile.
03:24That's just me.
03:25But, uh, that, uh, I feel like, uh, don't get me wrong, though.
03:30I was definitely, you know, disappointed about it.
03:33I, I know I could have done, you know, definitely something different, but, you know, it, it happens.
03:39It happens to the best.
03:39And, uh, I feel like, you know, if I could take it back, I would, but I can't.
03:44And, you know, uh, you know, onto the Panthers now.
03:47Well, you know, Pop, it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.
03:51So, I, so I, I appreciate that approach.
03:54Sure does.
03:55Show them pearly whites like my mama used to say.
03:57Yes.
03:58Pop, when you start to look at, you know, your production, maybe the receiver room production,
04:05what do you feel like you guys could do more of to become even more productive just from, you know, the wide receiver room?
04:15Um, I think, you know, just, uh, just go to practice and, you know, practice hard and show the plays that, you know, that we can do.
04:24You know, uh, I feel like, you know, as we practice, it, it comes to game reality.
04:29So, I feel like we, we just need to, you know, take practice like a game, treat practice like a game.
04:38We do.
04:39Don't get me wrong, we do.
04:40And, uh, you know, I just feel like we just, we just fell short.
04:43I can't say, like, receiver production.
04:45Drake is one, one of the leading, you know, uh, quarterbacks, you know, with yards.
04:50I know it's going to tight, but it's going to all of us.
04:52We have a lot of playmakers.
04:54So, I mean, it's hard to get the ball to all of the playmakers.
04:58We have people who can make plays with the ball, tight ends, running backs, receivers, uh, even Drake, you know, with his legs.
05:04And, uh, sometimes you can't, that'd be selfish of, you know, a lot of us to be like, man, I'm not having a lot of this production.
05:14And we're, we're not even.
05:16Pop, we're, we're just, we're losing, we're losing you again on the phone.
05:20And, uh, maybe, maybe, maybe you could, maybe you could just step a couple yards forward.
05:26Yeah, let me, can you hear me?
05:30No, we can hear you now.
05:31Okay, yeah, we can hear, yes, we can hear you now.
05:36Oh.
05:36Pop, we can hear you now, but, but when you look at both of your losses, it does feel like they're losses that come from a game of missed opportunities.
05:51You're, you're in it.
05:52You, you can, those are winnable games for you guys.
05:55That must be frustrating for you.
05:57How do you fix that moving forward?
05:59Um, you know, uh, we just gotta clean up the, the little mistakes that we, we're having and, you know, uh, we gotta take more care of that ball.
06:10You know, um, I feel like that's one of the, the main things, you know, uh, cause we're in these games.
06:17We're definitely in these games and, uh, sometimes I feel like, you know, we're beating ourselves cause, you know, uh, the turnovers and, uh, for like, say my play, you know, that, that fourth down play.
06:29You know, we just beating ourselves and I feel like once we clean that stuff up, man, we're gonna be a good team, you know, uh, our coach will do a great job of the game plan, game planning, you know, against these guys, against the teams that we play.
06:43We just gotta bring it from practice, from the practice field to the, to the game field.
06:47Pop, when you start to say you guys are beating yourselves, I've been around a lot of football and I think the biggest thing is the little things that sometimes can get overlooked.
06:57Um, what are you guys doing as a team and you personally to make sure you're not over the, overlooking the little things, like you said, getting that extra yard.
07:07So when you do catch it, you're beyond the sticks.
07:09Uh, I feel like, you know, uh, details, the details really matter in this league details, you know, uh, it really matters, you know, one little detail off, man.
07:21And then, you know, it could, it could cost you the game or it could hinder something, you know, uh, that, that really matters, you know, in this, in the NFL for sure.
07:31Pop, what would it mean for the defense to have Christian Gonzalez back on the field Sunday against the Panthers?
07:39All right, that'd be good.
07:41You know, uh, Gonzo, man, he, he's, he's a dog and, uh, I can't wait to see my guy back on the field, you know, uh, especially, you know, coming in with him.
07:49Um, it's like a couple of us, couple of us left, you know, in that 2023 group.
07:56And, uh, it's, it's, it's good to see, you know, guys who came in with balling and I can't wait to see him come back and, you know, come back to ball.
08:04Any word?
08:05I don't know if you can tell us or not, but, uh, are you expecting that Cardi B will be at a game this season?
08:12I don't know.
08:13I don't know.
08:14That's a great question.
08:16I know it's going to be televised when she do.
08:18I'm hoping she shows up.
08:20Same.
08:22Let us, let me know what game so I can pull up.
08:25Yeah, Wiggy wants to pull up when she's there.
08:28All right.
08:28Hey, Pop, we'll let you go get to work.
08:30And, and if you could go get us, uh, go, go get a win for us if you could this week.
08:36Nah, yes, sir.
08:37Appreciate you guys.
08:38All right.
08:38We appreciate you.
08:39There he is.
08:40Pop Douglas.
