00:00Drake, congratulations.
00:01What a big win for you guys.
00:04Yes, sir.
00:05Thanks for having me on.
00:06Yes, sir.
00:06As always.
00:07I mean, obviously, it was an impressive performance yesterday,
00:09and that was despite all of the team injuries that have piled up with you guys.
00:14Let's just start with the basic question of why do you believe you guys were able
00:18to put so many points on the board yesterday?
00:21I think it's just execution of the game plan, execution of the plays.
00:25I think we've felt like we've been tired of saying, man,
00:29there's plays to be out there and we haven't made them.
00:30I think we could put some together, put some drives together,
00:32and it's hard to come out of a game when you feel like you're beating yourselves.
00:37I feel like yesterday was an example of us executing and hitting plays over there.
00:41Drake, you said after the game, Josh McDaniels was beautiful calling plays.
00:45When he gets on a roll, can you kind of feel it in the huddle,
00:48like you know that, oh, boy, we're starting to cook here?
00:52Oh, 100%.
00:52I think the guys feel it, and that's been a challenge all years
00:55from when we feel like we get in the rhythm.
00:57Once we pick up, I feel like we've done a good job picking up the first first down
01:00and kind of not stalling on the drives and not stalling on the red zone.
01:03I think Coach was honest throughout the week and throughout practice
01:06and throughout the last couple weeks for Coach Vrabel and McDaniels
01:10for us to finish the drive.
01:11I think we've tried to implement that more and focus on it more,
01:14and it's ended up paying off for us in a big way.
01:18You know, Drake, Mike Vrabel was on with us this morning with Greg Hill,
01:22and it sounded like when they were talking about the difference in the offense
01:25between the first several weeks and what's happened lately,
01:28they put a lot of the blame on themselves.
01:30And do you believe, Drake, that the plays that you guys are running now
01:34are more catered to what you do best
01:37and that they have essentially tweaked things
01:39to go more towards what your skill set is as a quarterback?
01:44I think that's the kind of balance of finding out between you guys
01:47and, I mean, between the players.
01:50I think that's kind of the balance you kind of feel out early on in the season
01:52of what we feel like we can kind of major in and do more
01:55and what kind of wrinkles we like to kind of mix it up
01:57and give defense trouble.
01:58So I think it was just a great example of us kind of putting together plays
02:04and the coach, really coaches just calling them and us executing them.
02:08So I really think that's what it comes down to.
02:09What was your favorite throw yesterday, Drake?
02:11You had a couple deep ones to Kyle.
02:12You hit Raritan on that 31-yarder.
02:14You dropped right in there.
02:15What was your favorite?
02:18Shoot, let me think.
02:20My favorite throw yesterday, I would probably say
02:25probably the first one to pop.
02:27I think any time you can see somebody wide open in the end zone like that,
02:30it's a good feeling to see somebody that wide open.
02:32So I'm always like that.
02:33Even the last one, pop was wide open too.
02:35So two for two for pop.
02:36How does it feel as a quarterback to get a guy
02:38who maybe hasn't been really on the stat sheet as much to get them going?
02:44Like give them a game like yesterday where Pop Douglas has two touchdowns.
02:48It's huge.
02:49It's huge.
02:49I've been trying to tell Pop all year he's doing the right things.
02:52He's blocking in the run game.
02:53He's running good routes.
02:54And he just, I mean, the ball hasn't found him.
02:56I think that's kind of this sport.
02:58And sometimes you do things that may not show up on the stat sheet,
03:01but it'll come back around.
03:02And that was a, it was great to see Pop, you know, kind of get his, get his glory.
03:07And he'll be, you know, continue to be a big player for us and make big time plays.
03:10When that happens, do those guys ever come up to you and thank you?
03:12Just like, oh man, I really needed that.
03:15No, you don't really.
03:16I think they kind of, they kind of get the, they kind of get it.
03:19I mean, that's one of the best things about our receiver rooms is they're,
03:22they're so, you know, selfless and, and really enjoy.
03:25You see them dancing and celebrating when they go see other guys scored
03:28or make a big time catch.
03:29So it's awesome for me to see that and really being it, being it with them.
03:33And just the other body, you know, somebody else who has success.
03:37And it's really, it's really just cool to see.
03:40And you shouted out the O-line after the game,
03:42but how about in particular Lomo who got in there for 49 snaps
03:45and seemed to hold up pretty well?
03:48It's always good for a young, you know, young player like Caleb at a young age
03:52to get some, some reps and some real experience, you know,
03:56in a game situation where he's got a, you hold up there on the left side,
03:59and a position he hasn't played as much, but I know he played in college,
04:02but to get in there and you get, you know, Crosby coming over there some,
04:06and, you know, a big time player and he's able to hold his own
04:09and do some really good things.
04:11So I was proud of Caleb and looking forward to seeing kind of just his role
04:15in this offense and just kind of the mentality of our offense of next man up.
04:19Yeah.
04:19You talked afterwards about being able to eat a ham sandwich in the pocket.
04:22What does that feel like on a day like yesterday, like to a quarterback,
04:26when you realize the O-line is giving you all the time in the world?
04:31It means the world.
04:32I mean, to those guys, you know, props to those guys for giving me some time
04:36and us able to make some plays back there.
04:39I mean, it always starts with those guys up front, you know, them five
04:42and, you know, playing their butts off and they've done that.
04:44And I think it's just to continue for us to, you know, keep, stay inside out,
04:49you know, up front and then me transfer up and try to get in the pocket
04:52and deliver the ball on time.
04:53And that's the formula.
04:54And you see when we do it, you know, time and time again, we have good results.
04:58How's Will Campbell, Drake?
04:59And you probably can't give us a medical update, but how about his spirits?
05:02Do you check in with him?
05:03Yeah, Will's in good spirits.
05:04You know, Will's in good spirits.
05:04He's a battler.
05:06He's a warrior.
05:06So it's always, you know, a pleasure to take the field with Will
05:09and I'm looking forward to, you know, get back out there with him.
05:12All right, Drake.
05:13The Efton-Chisholm lateral, was that something in the playbook
05:17or was that something that, you know, Efton just had some heads-up thinking
05:20on that play?
05:22No, I think Chisholm made a great play.
05:23You know, I think, you know, it has been confusing
05:26because a lot of teams haven't thrown laterals,
05:27but, you know, Chisholm made up just a good play.
05:30So I'm going to leave it up for debate on what you guys think,
05:33whether it's design or not design.
05:35I mean, is that something that's encouraged?
05:37Like, you know, I guess, I mean, to be quite honest,
05:39it took all of us by surprise.
05:41I wouldn't say it's encouraged.
05:42You know, I think, you know, one of our, you know,
05:45our second team's, you know, team key as a team is ball security.
05:48So as long as you're keeping, you know, good tear of the ball,
05:50I think it's, you know, Coach Raves is all about, you know,
05:53whatever it takes.
05:55Well, Drake, you guys have been so good on fourth down conversions lately.
05:58Does that change going forward, like, what you can do on third down as well?
06:01Just the confidence that you know, if you need to,
06:04you can go another down.
06:06No doubt.
06:06You almost treat it like two downs.
06:08I think it gives, you know, Coach McDaniels and, you know,
06:10his ability to talk with me in the headset, kind of the mentality of, you know,
06:13maybe he only needed to get, you know, to fourth and manageable, fourth and,
06:16you know, less than, you know, four or five to be able to get a chance for a
06:19coach for able to trust us and get back out there on fourth down.
06:21And I think we just got to keep proving them right and picking up the fourth
06:25down for him to, you know, keep trusting us.
06:27So, Drake, this is kind of a broad question, but one of the reasons that,
06:32you know, I encourage my kids to play sports is because you want to learn how
06:34to lose and you want to learn how, you know,
06:36to be embarrassed and knock down and get back up again.
06:39You obviously face a lot of criticism at the beginning of the season,
06:42but you were able to keep your composure through it all.
06:44And for the last two weeks, you've played at an elite level.
06:46Is there like,
06:47is there something you've learned about handling that type of adversity at the
06:50highest levels that people who are going through their own adversity could
06:54learn from?
06:57No, I think, you know,
06:58the biggest thing for me was just, you know,
07:00knowing the work that you put in and trusting that.
07:03I think not losing sight of that.
07:04I think there's going to be so many, you know,
07:06different viewpoints and what people think is going on and what's happening.
07:10But really,
07:10I think it's just between yourself and your kind of confidence in yourself and
07:15knowing that when things aren't going your way,
07:18you feel like you're not playing football,
07:20as good a football as you wish,
07:21or you feel like you can.
07:22It's just got to, you know,
07:24dig deep and trust the people around you and trust the circle around you.
07:27And just kind of value the opinions of people that you trust.
07:30I think that's the biggest thing in this position and in sports growing up.
07:35You know,
07:35value what your parents say and value what maybe a close teammate and,
07:39you know,
07:39even your coaches are just put people around you and trust the work you put
07:42into it.
07:42Because more times than not,
07:44you know,
07:45enough work and you play at a high level and things will come,
07:49come back around.
07:50Pretty good weekend,
07:51Drake,
07:51even North Carolina with a big win on the road in Pittsburgh.
07:53Did you watch any of that game?
07:55And how does Bill look like a giddy Bill Belichick?
07:58How does his like post-game dance celebration compare to Vrabel?
08:03No,
08:03it was awesome to see the heels going to win.
08:05Yeah.
08:05I'm always watching the heels on Saturday.
08:07I play close attention and I'm rooting for him pretty hard.
08:10So it was funny to see,
08:12I saw the locker room interaction after it was funny to see coach Belichick.
08:16It sounded,
08:16it looked like he didn't want to have any emotion or any dancing,
08:20but he kind of almost looked like he about leaned into it.
08:23So it was,
08:24it's funny to see.
08:25No question.
08:26So yesterday,
08:28unexpectedly,
08:29we got to see the debut of Fernando Mendoza,
08:32another young quarterback.
08:33What did you think of his first NFL throws out there?
08:37Yeah,
08:37I was just talking about that with some teammates earlier today.
08:40It was dating back to my first,
08:42first action against,
08:43you know,
08:43we were on a road game,
08:44we were playing the jets and it was the end of the fourth quarter.
08:46We were down and we were kind of just driving the ball down the field.
08:50And it reminded me of that.
08:51And it was,
08:52it's funny to look back on kind of my situation of,
08:55of doing that my rookie year and,
08:57you know,
08:57watching him,
08:58you know,
08:58yesterday,
08:59but I think it's,
09:00I think it was,
09:01it was cool to see,
09:02you know,
09:02anytime a number one pick,
09:03you know,
09:03coming in and,
09:04you know,
09:05the crowd is obviously involved,
09:06but I can't say enough about how Kirk's playing.
09:08And he's playing at a high level and they've done some good things on
09:11offense.
09:12And I'm looking forward to see,
09:13you know,
09:14kind of how they do the rest of the way.
09:15Drake,
09:15it was kind of cool yesterday.
09:16They honored the 2001 Patriots team.
09:19The,
09:19you know,
09:20the one that basically kicked off winning here in Boston for a while.
09:23Did you get to spend any time with the 2001 guys that were all around
09:27the area or,
09:28you know,
09:29did you have any interaction with any one thing having to do with this
09:33weekend,
09:33the special weekend for those guys?
09:36I didn't see,
09:38I saw maybe Vinatieri.
09:39I saw out of Vinatieri.
09:41I'm always,
09:41I'm a big fan of,
09:43obviously somebody at that position.
09:44I always say that kickers and quarterbacks are kind of the most,
09:47you know,
09:47mental side of the,
09:48of the football position.
09:50I'm having to deal with the most kind of,
09:52you know,
09:52your own thoughts and confidence.
09:54And I always kind of relate that with quarterback,
09:56with kickers.
09:57So I got a chance to see,
09:59see him and obviously a big fan.
10:01And then really,
10:02I think coach Vrabel said he hung out with the 2001 team for,
10:04um,
10:05a couple hours on Saturday,
10:06but no,
10:06we didn't get a chance to,
10:07but I've heard the,
10:08um,
10:09you know,
10:09and Michael said that the ceremony at halftime is pretty cool.
10:12Yeah.
10:12Vrabel hasn't always,
10:13I'm sorry,
10:13not Vrabel.
10:14Um,
10:14uh,
10:14Vinatieri hasn't always been that jacked.
10:16Like he just got all of a sudden started working out several years ago.
10:19And now the guy is totally jacked.
10:22Yeah.
10:23I haven't really noticed that.
10:24I remember I was a young kid when he was,
10:27but obviously he played for a long time.
10:28So he became a teenager at the end of his years,
10:30but,
10:30um,
10:31props to him if he's been working out.
10:32He has been.
10:33All right.
10:33So Drake,
10:34it's time for ask me anything.
10:35And that is brought to you by Northeast men's health,

10:43These questions are submitted by our listeners.
10:46Uh,
10:46let's go to question number one.
10:48Hi,
10:49Drake.
10:49What advice would you give to a kid who loves sports,
10:53but is always the smallest kid on his team?
10:57Always the smallest kid on your team,
10:59man.
11:00Um,
11:00I think,
11:00you know,
11:01I think the only way I can relate to that is,
11:02is being,
11:03you know,
11:03the smallest of my brothers growing up and you just got to,
11:05you know,
11:05find ways to do,
11:07do things better than others.
11:08And I think that's whether it's,
11:09you know,
11:10playing harder or,
11:11you know,
11:11knowing your,
11:12your job or assignment at the,
11:13at the highest level or,
11:14or more than,
11:15um,
11:16you know,
11:16the other team or the other teammates,
11:17just to find a way to get on the field.
11:19I think having bigger heart,
11:20you know,
11:20it's not the size of the dog and the fight.
11:23It's the size of the fight and the dog.
11:24It's what they always said growing up.
11:25So,
11:25um,
11:26I think just find that,
11:27have that attitude and,
11:28and get after it.
11:29There you go.
11:29Young last.
11:30That was Andrew from Marshfield.
11:31Good question.
11:32Very good.
11:33Andrew.
11:33That was awesome.
11:33How old is he?
11:34Eight years old.
11:34Eight years old.
11:35All right.
11:35Well,
11:35there you just made his day.
11:37Uh,
11:37let's go to a question.
11:38Number two,
11:39ask me anything.
11:40Hello.
11:40This is Spencer Fitzgerald from Wayland,
11:43Massachusetts.
11:45Drake may,
11:45if you were to get a dog tomorrow,
11:48what kind of dog would it be?
11:52Ooh,
11:52if I was to get a dog,
11:54you know what?
11:54I think my first answer would be,
11:57you know,
11:57I wouldn't have much say in it.
11:58Cause my wife would,
11:59would probably be,
12:00uh,
12:00the one picking it out.
12:01But other than that,
12:02I would say I'd kind of like,
12:04uh,
12:04I heard King course.
12:05Those are pretty sweet.
12:06I get kind of a tack dog,
12:07a kind of dog to be able to watch,
12:09you know,
12:09the house and,
12:10uh,
12:10maybe a big German shepherd,
12:12but my wife would probably say some type of,
12:14uh,
12:15you know,
12:15poodle or whatever,
12:16shepherd or whatever they say.
12:18Doodle.
12:19I think doodle the word.
12:21So by the way,
12:22you can,
12:23you can understand,
12:24like if you go and drive through the neighborhoods in Boston,
12:26you know,
12:27you're in a high money neighborhood,
12:28not by the cars they drive,
12:29but the amount of doodles that are there,
12:31because it's like breed getting a bread doodle is big business around here.
12:37Drake.
12:37So not that you have to worry about the money,
12:39but it's like,
12:40it's,
12:40it's a big deal around here.
12:43No,
12:45I haven't,
12:45I haven't looked at too much into it.
12:47I don't think a dog is on our agenda.
12:49I'll hear anytime soon,
12:50but I just Googled it.
12:52I didn't know what a cane Corso is.
12:53That's cool.
12:53Yeah.
12:54It's massive.
12:55Those things are like a hundred pound dog.
12:56Yeah.
12:57I've never heard of them,
12:57but yeah,
12:58it's like a Mastiff type dog.
13:00Is that right?
13:01Yeah.
13:02I think Jacoby Brissett have one and he always,
13:04you know,
13:04you have to see,
13:05you know,
13:06his dog and his dog has definitely got a little,
13:09he's got a little viciousness to him.
13:11So stay away from those.
13:13All right.
13:13Let's go to our final.
13:14Ask me anything.
13:15Question literate.
13:17Draco.
13:18I was at the game yesterday.
13:20Awesome.
13:21Awesome performance,
13:22man.
13:22My question is what is your favorite horror movie?
13:26And if you don't do horror,
13:27what is your favorite Halloween movie?
13:32Ooh,
13:33horror movies.
13:34I don't love,
13:35you know,
13:35scary movies.
13:36Um,
13:38actually Halloween movie.
13:40Michael was just saying we need to watch some Halloween movies kind of in the season.
13:44Um,
13:44I don't mind Frankenstein,
13:45the OG Frankensteins.
13:46Um,
13:47I don't mind.
13:48Let me think.
13:50Uh,
13:50some of the scary movie ones.
13:51I kind of like,
13:53uh,
13:54who was the one with,
13:55uh,
13:56it's the clown with the balloon.
13:58Oh,
13:59it was.
13:59Is that what it's called?
14:00Yeah.
14:01It.
14:01I think it's called it.
14:02Yeah.
14:02Oh,
14:02that was probably the last scary movie I saw.
14:04So I probably won't see anyone for a long time.
14:07Okay.
14:07Stiz,
14:08who we work with is like a huge horror movie guy.
14:12Can you recommend one?
14:13Did you,
14:13I take it you don't like slasher movies,
14:15right?
14:15I think you're probably,
14:16it sounds like you're like me,
14:16but scary is good.
14:18As long as it's not like slasher stuff,
14:19right?
14:21Yeah.
14:21I mean,
14:22any of the ghosts are kind of jump out,
14:24pop up at you.
14:25I'm not a big fan.
14:26I'd say,
14:27Drake,
14:27I'd say,
14:28keep it classic.
14:28If fan,
14:29Michael's looking for a horror movie to kind of get in the Halloween,
14:31spirit,
14:32just go with the original Halloween,
14:341978,
14:34Michael Myers,
14:36absolute classic movie,
14:37not too over the top violent.
14:39I think it'll be a great Michael Myers ones.
14:41I like the Michael Myers ones.
14:43Okay.
14:43There we go.
14:43Those are pretty cool.
14:44Yeah.
14:44Not bad.
14:45Yeah.
14:45The original Halloween is good.
14:46I don't know about the later ones that,
14:48you know,
14:49the Jamie Lee Curtis is like a grandma or something in it.
14:52I'm not quite sure about those.
14:54Drake.
14:55Congratulations,
14:55Drake.
14:56And what a,
14:56a good stretch of games that you guys have had.
14:59Obviously,
14:59you know,
15:00you guys are going to,
15:01it's,
15:01it's what,
15:02what the most impressive thing I think was that you did it with so many
15:04different receivers and it'd be nice if AJ Brown is back.
15:08I don't know whether you're hearing anything or have you talked to AJ
15:11just to see how things are going.
15:14Yeah.
15:14I definitely,
15:15you know,
15:15talked to my teammate who's,
15:16you know,
15:16sits beside me in the locker room.
15:18We're my locker roommate.
15:19So,
15:20no,
15:20definitely.
15:21I've been checking in with him and looking forward to seeing him.
15:23And when he gets a chance to get back on the field and,
15:25you know,
15:26always good to have guys making a bunch of different guys making plays.
15:29And it'll only be good to,
15:30you'll see number one back out there in action.
15:32Sounds great,
15:33Drake.
