On Monday's edition of Zolak and Bertrand, the guys were joined by Patriots WR Pop Douglas following the team's first padded practice in Training Camp. Douglas explained how he's enjoyed playing in Josh McDaniels' offense, as well as the bond the offense created when players worked out with Drake Maye in North Carolina earlier in the offseason.

00:00and we are now joined from the practice field by patriots receiver pop douglas hello how you doing
00:06see i like this pop want to know where we're at capello points way up here we're up here
00:10see he's the only guy to do that it's like the sixth interview we did that means he's he's in
00:15tune with everything hey so far so good pop uh good camp so far compared i'm not comparing it
00:20to the other ones but you played in two different offenses here in your first two years it hasn't
00:25gone that well for the team and for some personal numbers but things look good so far right no
00:29yes sir looks good so pop uh this morning your head coach mike vrabel talked about how hard you
00:37worked in the off season how frequently you were in the building one of the off season award winners
00:41and had a lot of high praise for you what's it been like playing for mike vrabel and being around him
00:46these last several months man it's a blessing you know i always preach that you know coach brave he's
00:52a player's coach he's on the field with us i've never had a a head coach on the field with us you
00:57know chasing us around and stuff like that when i seen that man i just knew man it's going to be
01:02different this year and uh josh mcdaniel's being in the mix here i'm sure you've looked a lot of the
01:06old tape julian edelman wes walker troy brown made a living in that slot does that get you excited oh
01:12definitely man i i'm so ready to go out there man i come to practice excited every day just to see what
01:17what new play i'm going to make this you know uh today did you drop weight in the off season you look
01:22pretty cut off nah yeah i've been working i've been working a little more you're like born you're
01:27born you can't wait to take your shirts off no but yeah kb kb got me uh over here ready to take
01:33my shirt off because i've been working to be working on my abs all right uh so when we listen
01:38to drake talk about working with josh he goes back and he's watched tape patriots offenses over the
01:44years have you done any any of that going back and watching receivers over the years that have played
01:49within josh's offense to see what things you could pick up oh most definitely uh josh and you know
01:54my uh coach td they make good uh cut-ups for me just in case you know i come out to practice and
01:59they want something you know something extra on the route you know uh he showed me different ways i
02:04could run a route just to show the defense a different look and uh for like coach td and you
02:10know coach josh mcdaniel's they've been doing a great job of showing me cut-ups of the old receivers
02:14you know doing these same routes who which receivers you got edelman in there who do you got
02:19yeah i got edelman i got uh like chur brown uh uh jacoby myers uh jacoby myers definitely recent
02:26recently so i watch him a lot just because he he has that same swagger on the field as me and i i
02:32like it how about welker you know like a hundred catch guy yeah yeah with welker for sure
02:37you know what happens when that when that happens for you you get paid
02:43yeah yeah does the uh does the preciseness of the offense does that strike you like it's they
02:50expect you to be in a certain spot at a certain time where you may float another other past years
02:55not correct uh i feel like that's what that's what uh this offense is you know made of you being in
03:00the right spot and the ball gonna come get open the ball gonna come so uh as long as i keep showing
03:05that on the film man i hope the ball come i pray the ball come the big play on saturday sorry to
03:09jump you the big play on saturday the the deep one where drake had the off-platform throw
03:14was that was that a cold route was that a post or was that a busted coverage and no that that was uh
03:18we call that scramble drill okay that fast break right there uh had to cross a route and you know
03:23uh drake left the pocket and that's when i i go and uh because i'm i'm at the top and i go and man
03:29drake found me and we actually went over that and we uh executed it so the terminology is something
03:35that a lot of people talk about the language is a little different with josh has it been difficult
03:39to learn uh new offensive language to be out there in the huddle and be ready to go um not not really
03:47for me uh i feel like i kind of had this offense my rookie year under bill ob so coming back it was
03:52definitely different terminology but i could pair it up with you know that that offense back then so
03:58uh it wasn't too hard but definitely the terminology you just got to really get in that book once you get
04:02in that book and you actually learn i feel like it come easy when you're on the field you go outside
04:06i mean you go out there and play with confidence do you like the heat yeah i'm from florida all right
04:10how much did you talk to drake this offseason and how much more comfortable are you with him
04:15coming into this year man we actually got together you know uh in north carolina uh he got all the guys
04:20together man that's what we needed i feel like that that built all our confidence together and we
04:26connect on a lot of plays and i feel like that came from that offseason us getting together
04:30get together and you know throw with each other we're talking to patriots receiver pop douglas
04:34uh this camp it just talk about the vibe of your team and where you guys are at in your head it just
04:40feels like i don't know it's it's fresh everybody's feeling good everybody's really focused man i love
04:45the energy we're close in the uh locker room that that's what make us good man i feel like we
04:50offense and defense we know each other names you know and uh that that's that's what we need
04:54as a team and i feel like we're close we're close it feels like you guys are always on the move even
04:59in stride stretch is that fair to say like nobody nobody's taking a knee or sitting down during any
05:04drill oh yeah no we're always on the move i think that's what we need uh you know stay conditioned
05:09get well conditioned man you know that that's always been the picture of motto man we we're gonna
05:13come out there be very conditioned and ready to play all right pop we'll keep working hard it's been
05:18a great camp so far we're looking forward to seeing you out there thanks pop thank y'all all right
05:22pop douglas patriots receiver had an excellent camp to this point making plays day after day
05:28had the big one that so referenced on saturday scramble drill and that wasn't a scramble drill
05:33he is impressed so far short guy goes closest uh closest to you they take off the deepest ones
05:39they come back to you pretty standard yeah it's been a good camp to this point and uh
05:45well we hope it continues for him
