00:00The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has launched an investigation into the leaking of information regarding officers scheduled to proceed on leave.
00:09Police Commissioner Alistair Guevaro once again described the disclosure as an act of sabotage.
00:16Guevaro, speaking on I-95 FM on Monday, explained that the management of officers' leave falls under his authority.
00:24Commission of Police to manage the resources of the TTPS. Within the resources of the TTPS is the human resource capital.
00:35And the human resource capital is made up of 1st Division officers, 2nd Division officers, civilian staff.
00:42Mr. Meister was supposed to have been sent on leave before this, but because three other persons who held the position of Assistant Commission of Police had applied for some short leave, I put it off.
00:57In putting it off, this morning, the last of those officers returned off leave.
01:06So Mr. Meister could have proceeded and he was given adequate time to prepare for to proceed on his leave.
01:13He added that other officers would also be sent on leave, but at times determined by the needs of the service.
01:21According to Guevaro, several ongoing operations require effective leadership.
01:27Other persons would be sent on leave as well.
01:30And it would be at a particular time that would be best suited for the management of what is going on.
01:37You may not know this, but I currently have four different operations running at this time.
01:44We have, apart from the operations, special operations, we have police officers in the airport, police officers in the prisons, we have police officers in the schools.
01:53We need persons to strategically lead different aspects of this.
01:59He warned that the leaked information could be misused by criminal elements.
02:05What the person who did, in leaking that information, as to how many of my strategic leaders are now eligible to be sent on leave,
02:16by exposing that information, they have now forced me to rethink my strategy.
02:22Because now all the criminals and the bandits and the persons with nefarious intent know,
02:26OK, listen, we have X, Y, Z amount of police officers and this one and this one and this one going on leave.
02:31While he did not identify the blogger by name, the vacation leave of the senior officers was posted on the Facebook page News Source.
02:40The post gave details on the ranks and accumulated vacation leave of senior officers, including DCPs, ACPs, senior superintendents and superintendents.
02:52While the names of the officers were blacked out, the rank and number of accumulated leave days were visible.
02:58Assistant Commissioner of Police Wayne Meister was sent on 16-month accumulated vacation leave this month
03:05and there was a reassignment of police executive portfolios.
