00:22demonstrating against the policies of President Novoa's government. Russian
00:29President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian
00:33Security Council to discuss several issues including the Russia and US
00:37treaty on strategic offensive reductions.
00:44Hello welcome to From the South I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur studios in
00:48Havana Cuba we begin with the news
00:59on Monday a high-level international conference for the peaceful settlement of
01:10the question of Palestine was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York
01:15United States. In the framework of this summit worldwide leaders demanded a
01:19two-state solution between Israel and Palestine as the only way to achieve
01:23peace in the Middle East. This new conference offered a new impetus to their
01:28force to stop the genocide against the people of Palestine for the sake of
01:33Palestinians and the humanity as a whole.
01:42In this context Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called for
01:47all countries to recognize a Palestinian state. We call on all other countries to
01:53take a similar historic step that will have a great impact on supporting the
01:57efforts towards implementation of the two-state solution and achieving
02:00permanent and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. On his part the
02:04President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas prized all efforts to end the
02:08genocide in Gaza called all Palestinian factions to surrender their weapons to the
02:13Palestinian Authority and reiterated its government position of a unified nation
02:18with only one law and one security forces.
02:20Hamas and other factions must surrender their weapons to the Palestinian Authority.
02:28What we want is one unified state without weapons, a state with one law and one legitimate
02:40security forces.
02:45Also on Monday the United Nations General Assembly held a high-level plenary meeting
02:50marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the multilateral organization.
02:56United Nations officials and heads of state and government reflected on the
03:01achievements of the past eight decades and the path ahead for a more inclusive and responsive
03:06multilateral system. The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly takes place
03:12under the theme Better Together 80 years and beyond for peace, development and human rights
03:18at a crucial time to renew the world's commitment to multilateralism, solidarity and share action for
03:25people and the planet. This year's high-level week highlights the urgency of delivering on the
03:31the promise of the sustainable development goals and revitalizing global cooperation.
03:38This building has served as a monument to our shared hopes for a better future.
03:50It is true that we have sometimes disagreed and confronted each other, but we have also triumphed
04:00for 80 years. This institution has promoted progress, sustainable development, peace and security,
04:11and human rights. Today's commemoration is not the story of one institution in the history of thousands,
04:21even millions of people who aspire to turn hope into reality.
04:27The foreign ministers of the community of Latin American and Caribbean states, CELAC, expressed Monday their concern
04:33about the presence of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean. The regional bloc's top diplomats met in New York City
04:40hours before the United Nations General Assembly meeting, which was convened to discuss the increasing tensions
04:46due to Washington's actions under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking in the Caribbean.
04:51Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill condemned the presence of U.S. troops in the area and warned that they
04:57threaten peace in the region. He also expressed his concern about the economic impact of the U.S. manoeuvres,
05:04since fishing and tourist boats are afraid of sailing in the area.
05:16We go to Ecuador now, where police forces use tear gas to repress protesters in the city of Otavalo,
05:22who were demonstrating against the policies of President Novoa's government.
05:26The protesters denounced that the police actions violate the students since several gases were launched
05:33against educational institutions. They demanded the repeal of Executive Decree 126,
05:40which eliminated the diesel subsidy and established its value to the public at 2.8 dollars.
05:47In addition, they announced the taking of the city of Latacunga to approach the governorate of Cotopaxi
05:53and demanded the state respond to social demands. As a result, the main roads of the country were closed
06:00as a measure of force against the government.

06:17Welcome back to From the South and join us because we go live now to our correspondent in the US, Jorge Estos,
06:26in the context of the high-level international conference in Palestine held at the United Nations.
06:43Hi, Gestos.
06:44Here in New York, his third day, at the beginning of the 80th annual Assembly General of the United Nations.
06:55Why? France has officially recognized the state of Palestine together with another country like they did the day before.
07:05We're talking about the United Kingdom, Canada. We are talking Australia. We're talking Portugal.
07:12And as of today, 152 countries of the world out of the 193 members of the UN has already recognized the state of Palestine.
07:27So that is going to be a key subject throughout the whole debate. The general debate starts tomorrow here at the United Nations throughout the week.
07:39So what is going to be the peace in the Middle East is going to be a very, very substantive subject.
07:47There's already been reaction of countries like the United States and Israel, of course, being saying all type of things that they are not really very pleased with the way that more and more Israel is getting absolutely isolated and separated from the rest of the world.
08:10The subject better together, the subject of this conference, better together because the Secretary General Antonio Guterres of the United Nations says that they want to put special emphasis in multilateralism.
08:28They say that the world needs to work as one in order to face, to tackle the global conflicts and the global violence that is going on.
08:39We're talking then the Middle East, but we're talking Ukraine and other conflicts of the world.
08:44The conference also is going to address an issue that we believe that is very important.
08:49And we're talking climate change and environment and mostly all the countries of Latin America, except Panama, has recognized the state of Israel as the right to become a member of the world and leave all the aggression and isolation coming from Israel.
09:11So it's going to be very interesting tomorrow morning officially when it starts the general debate.
09:18The tradition is the first country to talk is going to be Brazil, as usual, followed by the United States.
09:25So President Lula will be addressing opening the ceremony and then President Donald Trump is going to be coming here to address the General Assembly.
09:36We'll get back to you now.
09:43Thank you, Hostoso, for all the insights on this pivotal conference.
09:47And let's remain on topic.
09:49Palestinian authorities denounced that the Israeli siege is forcing nearly one million people to move south of the Gaza Strip.
09:57Along with the increase in the number of forcibly displaced people, the number of civilians killed is also rising, exceeding 65,200, including 75 who lost their lives in the last 24 hours.
10:11Authorities also denounced the recent attacks by the Israeli occupation against the Tal al-Aqhagwa neighborhood using drone and armored vehicles.
10:20The humanitarian crisis is worsening as several countries a way to formalize the recognition of the Palestinian state, an action that is expected to be the first decisive step towards ending the genocide in the enclave.
10:35Israeli occupation forces stormed the campus of Bir Seyd University north of Ramallah in the center of the occupied West Bank after smashing the university's outer doors.
10:51Israeli military vehicles stormed the city of Bir Seyd University and headed for Bir Seyd University before smashing the outer gates of the university campus in preparation for storming the university through the east and west entrances.
11:06It should be noted that the occupation forces had raided the Bir Seyd campus on repeated occasions, had manipulated the contents of the student movement's stored rooms and had confiscated several flags and models used by the student's blocks in their activities.
11:27And we go to Italy, where trade unions mobilized on Monday in solidarity with the Palestinian people amid Israeli siege plans against the Gaza Strip.
11:36Thousands rallied to demand an end to relations with Israel and for the government to take action regarding the Zionist crimes and also showed their support to the Sumut Global Humanitarian Flotilla, which seeks to deliver food and essential supplies to Gaza.
11:53These demonstrations come the same day as France and other countries prepared to recognize the Palestinian state of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, following recognition by the UK, Australia, Portugal and Canada on Sunday.
12:10And in other news, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council to discuss several issues, including the Russian U.S. Treaty on Strategic Offensive Reduction.
12:28President Putin stressed that Russia is capable of responding to any threats, not with words, but with military and technical measures.
12:36In this sense, the head of state cited the Russian authority's decision to abandon the moratorium on deploying ground-launched intermediate range and shorter range missiles in response to programs deploying similar U.S. and other Western-made weapons in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
12:55Putin added that Russia is prepared to comply with the core quantitative limitations of the Strategic Offensive Reduction Treaty for one year if the United States acts in a similar manner and does not take actions that undermine or violate the existing balance of deterrence capabilities.
13:14And also Russia and Nicaragua signed agreements on trade and economic cooperation in Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republic, Saporozhye and Kherson regions and the city of Sevastopol.
13:29Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the Special Representative of Nicaragua's co-presidents Laureano Ortega Murillo attended the signing ceremony at the reception house of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.
13:43During the event, Lavrov asserted that Russia values the strategic relationship and partnership reached with Managua and for his part Ortega Murillo added that Nicaragua could learn more about these regions and identify cooperation fuels that benefit both peoples.
