00:00Bolivia goes through a row of election in October between right-wing candidates Rodrigo Paz Pereira and Jorge Tuto Guiroga following Sunday's election day.
00:20In the United States, President Donald Trump called on his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky to give up Crimea and NATO membership ahead of a bilateral meeting in Washington, D.C. on Monday.
00:38And Israel has started a new wave of genocide as denounced this Monday by the Palestinian government and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
00:50Hello, welcome from the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Jesus Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin the news.
01:00In Bolivia, the disastrous division of the left opened the way for right-wing candidates to participate in October 19 presidential runoff election.
01:09In Bolivia, the disastrous division of the left opened the way for right-wing candidates to participate in October 19 presidential runoff election.
01:22In Sunday's election day, candidate Rodrigo Paz came in first with over 32 percent of the votes, who would contest their runoff with second-place Jorge Quiroga, who obtained over 26 percent of the votes.
01:33Local authorities reported no major incidents during the day. Elections took place amid a complex political, economic, and social context.
01:40This internal division led to the movement toward socialism and the left being fragmented.
01:45Moreover, the sector, represented by Evo Morales supporters, campaigned for no vote.
01:50As a result, neoliberalism is set to return to power and undone the achievements made so far by the social and political movements that founded the plurinational state.
02:05When announcing the results, the president of the National Electoral Council, Oscar Hasen Teufel, thanked the Bolivian people for their support, understanding, and civic integrity demonstrated this election day.
02:16We want to thank all the people who trusted the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, and especially to the Bolivian people for their support and their civic spirit displayed today.
02:38Thank you so much to the friends of our international observers.
02:45Let's review the profile of the Christian Democratic Party candidate Rodrigo Paz Pereira.
02:50Rodrigo Paz was born on September 22, 1967, in the city of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, while his family was in exile during the time of military dictatorship in the country.
03:00Paz is the son of former President Jaime Paz Zamora, who governed under the auspices of dictator Hugo Banzer.
03:07He began his political career in 2002 as a deputy for two terms, and later became first a councilman and then mayor of the city of Tarija, in the south of the country, in 2015.
03:17His time as mayor is one of the most controversial chapters of his career, due to the fact that several works promoted by him were questioned for alleged overpricing and execution failures.
03:27During his campaign, he has issued sexy statements against laws in defense of women victims of gender-based violence.
03:36In addition, his running mate, Edmond Lara, former police captain, was dismissed in 2024 for disciplinary proceedings, despite presenting himself as a corruption whistleblower.
03:46Let's now get to know a little about the candidate of the Liberty Democracy Alliance, Jorge Tuto Quiroga.
03:56Jorge Tuto Quiroga Ramirez, born in Cochapamba on May 5, 1960, is an engineer and business administrator who studied at several U.S. universities.
04:05After working with the multinational IBM, Quiroga began his political career on the mentorship of Hugo Banzer, Bolivia's military dictator, from 1971 to 1978.
04:16Years later, Banzer ran for president again, assuming office in 1997 with Quiroga as his vice president.
04:23At 65, Quiroga remains a neoliberal politician advocating for the privatization of public enterprises, a policy he first implemented in 2001 when he served as interim president, replacing Banzer.
04:35During his brief presidency, he enforced the privatization of state-owned companies and adopted radical neoliberal economic measures, which many argued led to widespread poverty in Bolivia.
04:46Quiroga has run for president multiple times, including in 2005, 2014, and 2020, but was unsuccessful on each occasion.
04:54In 2019, he took part in the coup d'etat that deposed the government of Ebu Morales.
05:04And Bolivian President Luis Arce highlighted his government's commitment to democracy and peace.
05:09Through his social platforms, President Arce assured that they fulfilled the objective of guaranteeing a democratic and peaceful process,
05:17and he trusted that the Bolivian people would ratify their democratic vocation in the second round.
05:22For his part, Rodrigo Paz, who was the winner in this first round and became the big surprise by defeating the candidates from Washington and the extreme right,
05:29made a first call for national reconciliation.
05:32A little more belligerent, Jorge Quiroga, his competitor in the ballotage, pointed out against the state and in favor of individual properties.
05:41The Colombian government called for a halt to mercenarism in the country after Sudan denounced South American nationals are fighting alongside the parliamentary rapid support forces in the war in that war.
05:57Precisely, Colombian head of state Gustavo Petro reiterated that ex-combatants should not be held prisoner in conflicts that do not concern them,
06:04urging them to fight for the homeland, not to die in other people's wars.
06:08A report has indicated that Colombian mercenaries recruited by armed criminal groups financed by foreign countries are participating in the growing conflict in Sudan,
06:16a participation for which Bogota had formally apologized to Khartoum in December 2024.
06:22Precisely, Sudan's Prime Minister Kamil Ederes made a direct appeal in Spanish to the people of Colombia, urging them to stop the recruitment of mercenaries to fight alongside paramilitary forces in the country's war-torn Darfur region.
06:41Sudan's government accuses the United Arab Emirates of arming the rapid support forces and financing the recruitment of mercenaries.
06:48A commitment to peace I urge the Colombian people and all Spanish-speaking communities to stand with us in ending the siege and stopping the recruitment and deployment of mercenaries to our land.
07:04And on Sunday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro referred again to the boost in national tourism and described the sector as the secret weapon of the national economy.
07:15National and international indicators show impressive economic growth in the Bolivarian nation, which is subject to more than 600 illegal sanctions imposed by the United States and several of its Western partners.
07:26However, non-oil sectors have grown significantly. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean said Venezuela's gross domestic product increased by 6.2%.
07:35The tourism sector alone grew by 72%, boosted recently by the conclusion of an international fair.

08:26U.S. President Donald Trump called on his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky, to give up Crimea and NATO membership ahead of a bilateral meeting on Monday.
08:35On his social media, the U.S. President pointed out that these would be the necessary conditions for achieving a ceasefire and ending the Russian-Ukrain conflict.
08:44President Zelensky arrived in Washington on Sunday to meet with the U.S. President, the Vice President and other members of his cabinet.
08:50The meeting was agreed upon after the Alaska summit between the leaders of Russia, Vladimir Putin and the United States.
08:57Several European leaders will join the meeting in the Oval Office this Monday after being excluded from the meeting in Anchorage.
09:03And in Hungary, Foreign Minister Peter Zizardo denounced that Ukraine attacked the oil pipeline to his country, which led to the interruption of fuel supplies.
09:16The Hungarian official described the attack as outrageous and unacceptable.
09:21Zizardo said Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Zorokin informed him that experts are already working to prepare a power substation essential for the pipeline's operation.
09:31However, no estimated date has been given for supplies to presume.
09:36In a post on his ex-account, Foreign Minister Zizardo accused Brussels and Kiev of trying to drag Hungary into war, stating that it is not their war and that Hungary will remain on the sidelines of the conflict.
09:48And on Monday, Japan's Foreign Affairs Minister, Yaya Takeshi, greeted his German counterpart, Johan Waterfu, in Tokyo.
10:00In their meeting, they discussed how to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Germany within the context of China's increasing influence in the Indo-Pacific and the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.
10:11During his Asian trip, Waterfu is expected to visit World Expo in Osaka, Japan, and then Indonesia from Wednesday, where he will meet with President Prabowo Subianto.
10:29On this Sunday, Mexican President Claudia Chainbaum highlighted that the fourth transformation wave promoted by her government lifted nearly 14 million Mexicans out of poverty.
10:38This is what she said from Ecatepec in the state of Mexico, where she went to inaugurate a family medical center.
10:45The head of state said in a public event that although many have dismissed the figures recently published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, she claims the fate achieved by the fourth transformation.
10:55According to the agency's report, Mexico currently registers the lowest level of poverty in the last four years.
11:01In addition, the difference between the richest and the poorest went from 38 to 14.
11:07And indigenous communities in northern Peru continue indefinite strike against illegal mining.
11:17The community blocked access to the lower basin of the Tigris River,
11:23bowing to keep it blocked until the Boluarte government removes the mining dredgers and eliminates water pollution.
11:28Protesters rejected the government's inaction in this context,
11:32returning that defending life and health is non-negotiable for them,
11:35and that they will not back down as long as illegal mining continues to destroy their territory.
11:40Indigenous peoples in the region reported that illegal miners use mercury to process the gold, like extract from the Amazon.
11:47When this mercury is dumped into rivers, it poisons animals and ultimately damages human health.
12:00In Haiti, former transitional president Fritz Alphonse Young denies any relation with Eric Prince's mercenary company amid growing suspicions surrounding an alleged contract.
12:12Fritz, who headed transition council until July, asserted that he was unaware of anything related to the hiring of the mercenary company.
12:19The situation has been further complicated by Prince's assertion that he had been working with the government since March,
12:25despite Prince being under investigation for massacres and arms trafficking.
12:29The former transitional president called for investigation, particularly given that the mercenary company intends to implement a system whereby goods entering from the Dominican Republic would be taxed
12:42and the proceeds would go to Prince's accounts and not to the countries.
12:53And on Sunday, the government of Barbados outlined upcoming changes to the countries' legislation, including the amendment of a clause in the Interception of Communications Bill,
13:01which has been poorly received by the population.
13:04In a speech to the nation, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Motley addressed the clause,
13:08which would have allowed certain communications to be intercepted without a judge's warning, assuring it will be removed when the bill goes to the Senate.
13:16The law is part of a broader package of crime-fighting legislation currently before Parliament, including measures for criminal proceedings, juries and police and firearms amendments.
13:25In this context, Motley underscored the government's commitment to balancing citizen protection with respect for democratic oversight.
13:32The bill which was passed in the House of Assembly last week carried an exception clause, a route by which an interception could be treated as lawful without a judge's warrant in specified circumstances.
13:47But after a thorough review, and after advice from the Attorney General, with input from the relevant authorities and stakeholders, and being mindful of public concern, we are satisfied that this exception ought not to be proclaimed, and in fact should be repealed.
14:04We will therefore act accordingly, by removing this clause in the Senate, and sending the same back to the House of Assembly for concurrence.
14:13My friends, this government has the humility to listen, and always the courage to correct.
14:19The bill which was passed in the House of Assembly...

14:59Welcome back.
15:00The Israeli occupation forces said they will step up their military operations in Gaza City after approving the plan for the new phase of their expansionist agenda.
15:20In a statement, the Israeli military high command emphasized that it will maintain its deployment throughout the Palestinian territory as part of its strategy to take full control, but will focus on the enclave's capital.
15:30The action comes amid an ever-growing humanitarian catastrophe triggered by Israel's blockade of humanitarian aid and constant attacks on Syrian infrastructure.
15:39Numerous countries and international humanitarian organizations have rejected the latest Israeli expansionist plans, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the safe entry of humanitarian assistance.
15:48The Palestinian government and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs denounced a new wave of Israeli genocidal actions.
16:01The authorities point out that the occupation's new plans aggravate the suffering of thousands of Palestinian citizens.
16:07Genocidal forces have intensified attacks on Gaza City as part of their expanded operations, aimed at taking over the last major population center of the enclave.
16:15Thousands of families exhausted, wounded, and hungry fled from Zaytun after days of continuous attacks.
16:21Ninety-90 percent of the 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza remain displaced, and the vast majority are facing starvation.
16:28A Palestinian official confirmed that the Palestinian resistance delegation in Cairo received a new 60-day truce proposal from Israel.
16:43Permanent of the Qatari government are reportedly arriving in the Egyptian capital to make another attempt to alleviate the inhumane situation in the Palestinian enclave.
16:51Mediators in Cairo have already presented Hamas with a proposal for an agreement, which includes the staged release of Israeli hostages or, if they are founded, the return of their bodies.
17:02Meanwhile, in the north of the Strip, Israeli occupation troops continue to besiege thousands of Palestinians.
17:07On Monday, the war of starvation claimed two new victims, a three-year-old boy and a six-month-old baby.
17:19And the Palestinian Prisoners Club condemned the abuse of 48 women in the Israeli Damond prison.
17:25In a statement, the organization confirms that imprisoned Palestinian women are subjected to ongoing repression and serious violations of their human rights, including physical and psychological abuse.
17:35The text also reveals that two minors and a pregnant woman are among those detained in Damond.
17:40The Palestinian Prisoners Club also condemns prison security for using tear gas against detainees, as well as for causing food shortages and the spread of disease.
17:50Following the increase in Israel's repressive policies, Palestinians are urging human rights organizations and international agencies to intervene to stop the violations and guarantee the protection of Palestinian prisoners.
18:04The Iranian Foreign Ministry addressed their recent protests in Israel stating they evidenced the death of the Zionist regime's internal crisis.
18:19These protests are highly significant. The Zionist regime is facing serious crises.
18:31The insistence of its leaders on continuing the war and pursuing expansionism has not only angered and worried the countries of the region, the entire Islamic world, and in a way the international community as a whole.
18:54But it seems the patience of the regime's own society is also running out.
18:59I think the widespread protests we witnessed yesterday show the depth of the crises this regime is grappling with internally.
19:09Moreover, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagay condemned the inaction of the United Nations Security Council in the face of Israel's genocide in Palestine.
19:18The most important international body responsible in this regard is the United Nations Security Council. As the body in charge of maintaining international peace and security, the Security Council should have at least issued a resolution condemning the actions of the Zionist regime and forcing it to stop the genocide in Gaza.
19:45We know that because of U.S. obstruction and its full-scale support for the Zionist regime, this has not happened.
19:56But that does not mean we should not use other regional and international institutions to document these crimes, build consensus, and mobilize public opinion to put pressure on the Zionist regime and its supporters.
20:15In Nigeria, authorities registered at least 40 people missing after a barge sank in the northeastern state of Sokoto.
20:23The vessel transporting over 50 passengers capsized while heading to a market in the town of Koronjo.
20:28The National Emergency Management Agency confirmed that only 10 people have been rescued so far.
20:33It also reported that it activated an immediate response mechanism and is working in collaboration with emergency services and local authorities to step up the search.
20:41Authorities added that they would provide the necessary support to those affected and their families.
20:47In Pakistan, the death toll from heavy rains in various parts of the country rose to 400.
21:08Provinces in the northwest of the country were the most affected by the downpours where 671 people were injured, 2,300 homes were destroyed, and nearly 4,054 head of livestock were swept away by the floods.
21:22The Pakistan Red Crescent Movement deployed ambulances and distributed food and tents to the victims, as well as establishing medical camps to provide immediate care.
21:32For their part, local authorities extended the forecast for heavy rains until next Thursday.
21:43An International Meteorological Institute's report that Hurricane Erin strengthened to Category 4 as it moves away from the coast of the Dominican Republic.
21:50Dominican weather authorities warned about dangerous waves heading toward the Atlantic coast and the southern Caribbean with heavy rainstorms, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
21:59At the same time, they advised of the risk of heavy swells as the storm's ice expected to pass near the Turks and Caicos Islands and the east coast of the United States.
22:09Weather authorities said the effects of the storm on the Dominican Republic were minimal with no reports of property damage or human losses at this time.
