00:49Hunter almost lost him to the sand, James.
00:50Yeah, that back hand got stuck in there and it swapped back.
00:54But he had strong enough power to pull that thing out.

01:06So Jett shuffled back to fourth and almost crashed.
01:09And you have the ultra-fast early in the race.

01:13Jett's now going to work on third place.

01:16Tobak closing in on Hunter Lawrence for the lead.
01:19I love this racetrack for Eli Tobak.
01:22Super, super fast.
01:23He said it himself.
01:24He likes these style racetracks.
01:26And ever since he first took the track today, he has had so much intensity.
01:33Maybe not the top speed, but he has been on point.
01:36Just looks super comfortable to me.
01:38Yeah, I like the lines that Eli Tobak is using.
01:41He switched up to the outside.
01:43He was able to close in.
01:44And this is going to help Jett Lawrence because he's going to keep Hunter Lawrence blocking
01:47those insides, worried about him, and not keep that number one from losing too much time.
01:51Hunter comes a little shorter on that double.
01:53This is a perfect scenario, James, for Hunter.
01:55If you think about it, if Hunter's able to edge out Tobak, get Tobak in between him and his brother,
02:01he'd be sitting pretty coming into moto too.
02:03Still a lot of racing left.
02:05And this crowd will come to light if Tobak can make this move the six-time 450 champion.
02:13Still at the sharp end of the field.
02:17Yeah, Hunter Lawrence cut that corner in.
02:19That's where he went a little wide and got that swapping.
02:21And J. Sexton makes it pass on his rotting partner, Ken Roxen.
02:26Good to see a little fight in him.
02:28And while you watch that Sexton and Roxen battle in the bottom box, it's Jett Lawrence up ahead.
02:33Jett has actually lost some ground on the top three.
02:37He has work to do, and Sexton's closing on him.
02:41And Tobak continues to set up Hunter Lawrence.
02:45Different lines.
02:46Tobak to the lead.
02:48Ricky, you just said, you're like,
02:49man, I wanted somebody to go in the inside, I'm in on the outside, and there it was.
02:53And Jason, at first lap, you saw Eli make that time up.
02:56Well, he saw it, and the crowd has gone wild for this.
03:00And you see the point scenario.
03:02That was an incredible pass by Eli Tomac to go around the outside.
03:06And all these riders have been hitting that little jump on the inside, and I didn't think that that jump was steep enough to slow the riders down.
03:14It was almost going to be impossible to make a pass on the outside like Eli did, but, man, that was a great pass.
03:20Uh-oh, I see that head leaning.
03:23I see the head leaning on Eli's style.
03:25When he gets comfortable, he likes to let that head lean and listen.
03:28And listen to that crowd.
03:32Eli Tomac, the 32-year-old father of three out of Cortez, Colorado.
03:37Can he get it done?
03:38And we asked him about battling for this title yesterday.
03:42I just, I have to go out there and win and just, and see what happens.
03:45And, of course, that all starts with good qualifying, good start position, good starts, and just seeing how the cards fall, really.
03:53So, I just, I just got to keep doing my thing.
03:56I've been riding really strong.
03:58I've been a little bit short, but I feel good.
04:02So, I'm this close, this close to getting it.
04:05So, I just got to go out there and win.
04:08Now, I will say, like, Eli, he's been riding really good.
04:11It's going to give him a lot of confidence as he comes back through that section.
04:14But he probably won't get away from these guys.
04:16They'll keep it close.
04:17And if I'm Hunter Lawrence, this might help him, Ricky.
04:19He might have that rabbit to chase.
04:21And instead of working behind him, he knows that he, number three is in front.
04:27Man, this guy, the intensity that Eli has right now, it is super impressive.
04:34Starting to inch away, little by little.
04:38On Hunter, and this is going to be incredible to watch if he's able to pull it off.
04:44Oh, so much talk about brother versus brother for the second year in a row.
04:47Eli's close enough.
04:49He just needs to get someone between the two of them and himself.
04:52When he wings overall.
04:53Not just this, but oh.
04:55Almost went down.
04:56Yeah, dabbed his foot right there.
04:58Listen to the crowd.
04:59And he is a fan favorite everywhere we go because he's been at this level for so long.
05:05term pro in 2010 and still good enough to win races against the best.
05:11Give me the gap back to Jet.
05:17In fourth.
05:18He's got some work to do.
05:23Kind of hard to push in that area, right?
05:25Because it's so hard, James.
05:28Yeah.
05:28I mean, we're at 15 minutes.
05:29Just a little under 15.
05:31So this race is still there.
05:32I think what's going to happen, you know, Jet, as you mentioned earlier, Ricky, he's pretty
05:37calm in the beginning part of the races, but that number four behind him is going to push
05:41that pace.
05:41Right.
05:42So Jet's going to have to wake up because you can see that Chase Sexton slotting in.
05:45I think that's going to start dictating what happens with the number one.
05:49Well, it's tough, too.
05:51Like when Jet is a little tentative, right, very cautious early on in these races like he's
05:57been doing all season, you lose that track position.
06:00When you lose that track position on a track like this where it's hard to make up time on
06:05your competitors, this is what happens.
06:07So like you said, I do believe also, James, and I agree with you that having Sexton behind
06:12him is going to give him a little more push here.
06:14Yeah.
06:14And as you're talking about, the track is getting slippery and slippery and probably
06:18slick is all day.
06:19So that's a change for him.
06:20But earlier, it's a little uncharacteristic.
06:23We saw Jet make a few mistakes, went down once, almost went down a few other times.
06:27So maybe he's not comfortable, but he's not your champion for no reason.
06:32He will figure it out.
06:33Well, you go back to last week on a really tight track, JT.
06:38I mean, Jet, he did march up the field at the second half of that race.
06:43He did, Ricky.
06:44And, you know, with Jet, it's always a question of kind of when's he going to turn it on.
06:48He's had this habit, as you guys talked about, of kind of working through the first couple
06:52laps, letting the race unfold a little bit.
06:55But he's typically done that from the front.
06:56He hasn't been sitting in fourth with the championship on the line.
07:00And as you see him make a mistake, they're getting too deep in the berm.
07:03So now the question is, can he find extra pace, not only to close up to the guys in front
07:08of him, but he's got to find a way around them, too.
07:10So I'll be watching these last times to see.
07:12Does he make a break at some point and really turn the gas on?
07:16Yeah, he's going to have to because I think Hunter, Eli, they're motivated, but probably
07:23the most motivated guy on the track to beat Jet Lawrence is the runner behind him.
07:27Jay Sexton in a tough year for him, especially this outdoor in this playoffs, had a lot of
07:32hope.
07:34Looks like he might have made a mistake and lost some time.
07:35Yeah, he did lose some time there on that last shot.
07:38He was right on him.
07:40Look at the different line here that Eli's taking, going outside onto the tabletop, onto
07:46the second tabletop.
07:48Hunter electing to go to the inside.
07:49Hunter's still right there, though.
07:52Yeah.
07:52Yeah, I didn't think Eli would be able to get away.
07:54This race is going to start to tighten up.

08:31A lot of riders switching teams.
08:32We believe Tomac will be one of them.
08:34But he's trying to go out on top with Yamaha.
08:38And so far, so good for the veteran.
08:40Yeah, but the things are starting to close up.
08:42First two fourth, they're starting to close in.
08:45And watch these guys.
08:46They're going to start switching their lines up around this racetrack on those slippery parts.
08:50They're going to start squaring that bike up and try to miss those shiny parts in here
08:53because the track's getting tough, JT.
08:55Yeah, James, and for Tomac, we heard him say, they're like,
08:58hey, I just need to go win the race and see what happens.
09:01Well, I'll tell you what can happen is he can get help in the form of Justin Cooper.
09:05And all week, we talked about the battle between Hunter and Chet and the emotions
09:09and how would they handle that.
09:11But I think Eli Tomac was kind of overlooked.
09:13And a guy like Justin Cooper, his teammate, who came into Charlotte with the red plate,
09:18the most points of 28 races combined,
09:20he could play spoiler tonight and help Eli Tomac walk out of here with the championship.
09:25Yeah, JT, it has been a disastrous playoff so far for Cooper,
09:2911th and 8th at the first two races after coming in ranked number one.
09:33Now he's third.
09:34But for how long?
09:35Because it looks like Jet Lawrence is starting to stir.
09:37Wow, this is a lot like last weekend.
09:39That gap starting to close in there.
09:43That was a good lap by Eli, but Jet Lawrence's only rider that he did a 130 that last lap.
09:49Eli was there.
09:49Yeah, he had a 32, yeah.
09:54What direction will it go as Eli begins to pull away a little more from Hunter,
09:59so the focus is here.
10:00Justin Cooper out of Long Island, New York, holding off the young Australian.
10:04And he made up a lot of time that lap.
10:07Yeah, no, it was good.
10:09He just got a little bit better momentum through that sand.
10:11Now, you're going to watch Jet.
10:13He's going to try to get around Justin Cooper instantly.
10:16He doesn't want to get held up behind him.
10:18The opportunity might be right here.
10:20He goes around the outside.
10:23It's for Tomac Bay moves.
10:27Not enough.
10:29Yeah, but Jet's in a good spot.
10:31He might be right here up the inside of Justin Cooper.
10:34Got him.
10:35Ah, he saw it coming.
10:36So Jet Lawrence up to third, and now his brother right in front of him.
10:40Justin can feel that move coming up the inside there, I believe, from Jet to no contest.
10:45Yeah, no contest.
10:46And it's hard for Justin.
10:47He doesn't want to be in the middle of that.
10:49Maybe if he was in a championship, he would shut it down.
10:51But number one is rolling.
10:54And look at the difference it makes in points.
10:55It would now be a tie between the brothers.
10:58But again, this is only Voto one, and that would push Tomac back to third.
11:02But only halfway through this first 20-minute moto.
11:06Yeah, and Eli only one point back.
11:08So this is so exciting.
11:11It's what I love, this SMX playoffs format.
11:13For this particular reason, both SMX World Championships coming down to the final moto.
11:21Well, also, the vine starts to wonder how many areas all year long you could make up or lose one point.
11:29And there's literally one point in it between three riders.
11:33Right now, there's playoff seating.
11:35Even last week, Tomac wasn't quite able to get Ken Roxton in moto one.
11:39Jet wasn't quite able to get Tomac.
11:40Even those passes could potentially be the thing that decides it all.
11:44Yeah, but now you see how much time Jet is making it up.
11:48And at the end of that sand section, and that section right there is just going around outside and keeping that momentum up.
11:54And he's kicked it into high gear right here.
11:56Yeah, you're starting to wonder, is Jet kicked it up or Hunter's running behind him?
12:02Here it comes, same area where he passed.
12:04Cooper on the inside, plays nice with his brother.
12:08Hunter holds him off.
12:09Yeah, well played.
12:10But Hunter did a good job in the apex of the corner.
12:12He kept really good center speed.
12:15That's because he probably felt like his brother would take him out.
12:18That was somebody else.
12:20Maybe a few more laps.
12:21Maybe that wouldn't happen, JT.
12:23That was my question.
12:24If that's somebody else, if that's on any other color motorcycle, does Jet get a lot more aggressive?
12:29And maybe more importantly, would Hunter be willing to push deep in there knowing that his little brother is not going to take him down?
12:35I don't think so.
12:36Do you, James?
12:37If it was somebody else?
12:38No, if it was somebody else.
12:40Oh, no, no, no.
12:41I don't think it was somebody.
12:42He wouldn't have done it any different if it was somebody else.
12:44The reason I think he was a little bit too far behind compared to what he was, JT, against Justin Cooper, the previous lap.
12:52It just depends on how much money he's on the line, I'm just going to say.
12:56But, yeah, maybe 100 cents that Jet was that close.
12:59But, nonetheless, we don't have to worry about it.
13:01They're still right there.
13:03I bet he'll cut that inside a little bit tighter just next lap because Jet almost goes off the racetrack.
13:07Yeah, I was wondering, James, now Hunter's got to know that that move's coming, right?
13:13Yeah, I mean, he's either there or somewhere else.
13:16And they're starting to close in on Eli.
13:19But I just like where Jet's at.
13:21Losing that time, making it back up.
13:22He just feels a lot, looks a lot more comfortable than Hunter.
13:25Switches his line up right here.
13:27Yeah.
13:28And here we go.
13:29The downhill jump coming up.
13:31Here's the big right-hander.
13:32Hunter a little further ahead this time and gets to the inside on the apex.
13:37Nothing going for the number one.
13:39Yeah, and that corner right there, because it's so wide, it's going to be hard for those guys to block it.
13:45So, at any point in his race, if Jet is close, he can make that pass happen.
13:50Depends on how bad it is.
13:51Might be awkward at the dinner table afterwards.
13:54Yeah, I like that outside line before those two table tops right there because it allows the guys to get more momentum.
13:59Oh, Jet tried to square it up outside to inside.
14:03Not enough room.
14:03He was passing a lot of people last weekend like that, coming down, exiting the corners early, taking a wide entry, cutting down, get to that inside on corner exit.
14:15And they're keeping Tomac in sight while they battle.
14:18Only 1.6 seconds, you can see the leader.
14:20I feel like on this part of the track, it allows these guys, they can push it, but it's so tight, they can relax, get that heart rate down, and then start pushing back.
14:30But if Hunter doesn't fix this next section, Jet's going to go around him.
14:34We saw him get around Justin Cooper right there.
14:36Hunter's been going to that inside.
14:38Let's see if he switches it up.
14:40Back to the inside.
14:42Yeah, he went back to the inside.
14:43This lap.
14:45Is he going to cut back to the inside?
14:46Yep.
14:47Oh, Jet around the outside.
14:49To the outside.
14:50I like how Jet can go different lines.

14:54Outside turns to inside.
14:56Side by side.

14:59Now Hunter just wants to make the pass instantly back, and it might be right here.
15:03We're going to find out how much.
15:05I got close in the air, and there's Tomac.
15:08Hunter tries to square back up.
15:10Does he go for it right here to get back by his brother?
15:13No.
15:14Now he knows that his brother's been taking the outside right here.
15:17Oh, does he go for the pass?
15:20Nope.
15:21Yeah.
15:22I believe Hunter won it.
15:23Where Jet got close to a couple laps, Hunter wanted to make that pass, but because the way
15:27Jet jumped that jump, he started stalling out.
15:29Hunter got a little close, and he wasn't able to get that apex and get on the inside of him.
15:33So we'll find out.
15:35But Hunter at least has to, if Jet gets around Eli, Hunter has to get around Eli as well.
15:40He finished second in his moto.
15:42What a race.
15:44And because of the triple points, Jet Lawrence now a comparatively large point lead.
15:48If it were to end like this, Hunter's got to fight back.
15:54Well, this is a great opportunity for Hunter maybe to follow his brother, see what the different
15:59lines are like compared to what he was taking.
16:02Maybe that'll help him surge up and perhaps get by his brother, or at least minimal get by Eli,
16:10assuming that Jet gets by Eli.
16:13Yeah, Jet's about to get around Eli right here.

16:17Jet looking for an opening.
16:19This is an area where he's done some damage.
16:21Pressing toe back for the lead.

16:29Wow, we're watching this battle for the lead.
16:31I really would love to see Hunter stay close because he's going to be able to learn the
16:35lines that Jet used to catch up, just as Ricky was mentioning.
16:38It can bring him right back, give him that fight.
16:40But the key there, he's got to stay close as you see him dropping back already.
16:43Look how Jet stays a little bit lower.
16:46He's going more insides in certain areas compared to Eli.
16:52Let's see what Jet does if he gets close.
16:54And this right-hander right here.

16:57Oh, Eli blocks.
16:59He's going to try the outside in.

17:05I mean, Eli did the right thing, but it's one of those chests like checkers.
17:09You know, hey, you can block, you can save this piece, but that opened, the other one you
17:12left open, and you got to ask the number one twice.
17:15He's going to take it.
17:16A hundred percent.
17:17And, you know, you can guard on that pass like you were talking about, James.
17:21So, and you got a guy that is so talented like Jet.
17:25He's able to do passes that are really hard to make.
17:30And you just, it's hard to, it's hard to guard against that.
17:33He got a little sideways in the entrance to the sand.
17:35Tomac, does he have wind in his sails?
17:38Of course he does.
17:39It's Eli Tomac.
17:40He's going to try.
17:41Jet Lawrence has won every moto ever at a final in the SMX World Championship so far.
17:49Swept it last two years will.
17:51I just wanted to tell Ricky, I was talking to Johnny O'Meara, of course, who you worked
17:58with for a lot of years, Ricky.
17:59And I was talking about his relationship with Hunter and Jet.
18:03And he said, it's so special that you get to this point when you're training guys that
18:08you just know what they need.
18:10They know what you're going to give them.
18:12And he's like, that's been a big key for us.
18:14And he referenced you.
18:15And he said, I've known Jet since he was a teenager.
18:18I haven't experienced anything like this since I was with Ricky Carmichael because I knew
18:23him when he was a teenager.
18:25So just incredible to think that Johnny's talking about that history that you had.
18:29He has that with these guys now.
18:31And that talent that you just talked about, Ricky, it's just being honed by Johnny.
18:35And it's just very special.
18:37I mean, Johnny O is obviously so special to me for the reasons that you were just explaining
18:42about Will.
18:44Battle, by the way, R.C.
18:45I know, he's just a key component to the Lawrence Brothers program.
18:51Great racing back there with Roxanne and Sexton and now R.J.
18:55Hampshire.
18:55And they just rolled past the number four.
18:59Yeah, a little surprising right here.
19:01I think Jason's had a tough, tough year.
19:03I don't know if he struggled with the bike.
19:05But after last weekend, and he was right behind Jet Lawrence, closing in early in his
19:09race, and sliding back, he pretty much let R.J.
19:12go by him.
19:13Yeah, something to come undone here.
19:14Right, because we know, I mean, we know that Chase isn't one to quit.
19:18You know, he's a hard charger for sure, and he has a lot of pride.
19:22And you can only assume that he wants to show these guys that he is better than
19:26everybody in the world.
19:27So, great to see that for Chase.
19:30Yeah, rough go for Sexton, the champion of Pro Motocross.
19:35Last year, and Monster Energy Supercross in 2023 has been luckless at the world championship
19:41finale the last two years.
19:43Last year came in, battling for the championship with the Lawrences, and got hurt right off
19:49the start of this first photo.
19:51And then last week, a rough go put him on his heels as far as the title this year.
19:58And you know what I feel like?
19:59I've seen this, I kind of noticed it last week in St. Louis, that R.J.'s starting to
20:05ride that 450 a bit more confident and charge a little bit harder, like he would ride the
20:12250.
20:13And I don't know if that's because they've improved the bike so much for him, and he's
20:16obviously getting more time on it.
20:18So, that's going to help him ride, you know, more aggressively.
20:22But, uh, and he has been so impressive on this 450.

20:32Jason, I got to speak to Nate Ramsey, Rockstar Husqvarna team manager, on the success here
20:37of R.J. Hampshire.
20:39And he said, I am just so proud of him.
20:42The season that he's had, like you guys have just mentioned, he said the kind of grit and
20:46the determination that he shows, he's like, we don't see that in the paddock very much
20:50anymore.
20:50He's like, that's old school.
20:51That used to be, he's like, there's not many of them left.
20:54And he's like, I just want him to finish healthy.
20:56He's achieved everything that he needs to have achieved this year.
20:59Now we can look forward.
21:01Yeah, first summer on a 450, looking forward to next year.

21:04And Shire for sure.
21:05It's the last lap, boys.
21:07Jett Lawrence has done it.
21:08He's gone from fourth to first.
21:10Hunter is still digging to get Tomek, because for the overall and the points, every position
21:17could mean everything.
21:18But Jett Lawrence has conquered them all again, at least in the first moto.
21:23Yeah, that's a very impressive ride by Jett.
21:25And it kind of reminded me a little bit of what we saw in the 250 with Hayden.
21:28Once he got rolling, really loose, kind of flat landed.
21:31And I'm not sure if it's just the way this track sets up.
21:33But when the guys find that momentum, it looks like a fun track to ride.
21:37And so far, it's very fun for number one.
21:40No doubt about it.
21:41So the 22-year-old from Australia, they had him on the ropes early.
21:45He let the race come to him, as they say.
21:48And now he gets to the checkers first.
21:50And that is huge.
21:53In a step toward the title for the third straight year, Tomek, a great run for second to split
21:59the lawrence's and try to keep his hopes alive if something were to go wild in the second
22:05moto.
22:07But moto won all about Jett.
