Storms, including severe ones, pushed across the central U.S. for another day on Sept. 19.
Transcript
00:00And when we take a look at what's going on across the central U.S., a big swirl of some thunderstorms and showers.
00:05Now, where we're dealing with actual lightning, we're into Kansas and Nebraska,
00:10and then some scattered storms on the east side of the center of circulation, including into parts of Wisconsin as well.
00:15If you're west of the center of circulation, you have that cooler flow from the north,
00:19and that's just keeping us in the Dakotas a bit more stable.
00:22We can take a little bit of a radar tour here, and zooming in on these severe storms.
00:26Northwest Kansas here, we've got a severe storm well north of Quinter to the east of Hoxie, Kansas.
00:33This one has produced golf ball-sized hail, and there's a lot of lightning.
00:36The hail core continues there.
00:38There's even been a small hint of rotation with that cell, not enough to warn as a tornadic storm,
00:43but something we have to keep an eye on.
00:44And then into an area west of Concordia, still well north of Interstate 70,
00:48areas like Lincoln, Kansas are now in a severe thunderstorm warning well in advance of a nasty storm
00:54that's approaching from your northwest, also with some hail and also potential for some damaging winds.
00:59The storms up into Minneapolis are flowing northward or moving northward with that flow from the south
01:04on the east side of the center of circulation.
01:06So there's instability here, but the wind energy is not enough to produce much in the way of severe weather here.
01:12We've had a couple of severe storms just north of the Dells of Wisconsin,
01:16but by far the greatest risk for severe storms remains north-central Kansas into the evening.
01:22So this is going to be a hazard here for Friday night.
01:24Lights there for high school football, damaging wind, hail, and even the small risk for an isolated tornado.
01:30Meanwhile, to the east, it's still real sweaty there into Columbus on the final Friday of summer.
01:3587 degrees there, only 55 in Duluth.
01:37Big contrast there, and we're going to face more showers and storms into areas like Chicago.
01:42We'll keep an eye out for that Illinois-Indiana game, maybe a shower or a storm around tomorrow evening.
