Thunderstorms returning to the Northeast this Wednesday

Multiple rounds of scattered thunderstorms will sweep across the Northeast on Aug. 13.

00:00Travel all the way north to Burlington, Vermont, 95 on the nose right now.

00:05Very, very hot there.

00:06We were up in the upper 90s for a time in Bangor, Maine, and Caribou earlier into places near Burlington.

00:11So extreme heat there.

00:12If you want relief, head west to where the thunderstorms have been.

00:15Chicago, 74 right now at O'Hare.

00:18So a big contrast, but the thunderstorms have been pretty numerous,

00:21especially in the farmland of southern Ontario,

00:24then down into the area around the Golden Horseshoe there around the west side of Lake Ontario,

00:30Toronto, down into areas nearby.

00:33But some scattered thunderstorms have been out there.

00:35The ones near Rochester have kind of fizzled.

00:38We'll zoom in there for tomorrow, this area.

00:40We're going to have a lot more to track in this part of the country.

00:44There's some summer footage from Rochester earlier shot yesterday there.

00:48Very hazy, smoky sky there and classic summer weather.

00:52But Wednesday, look at this.

00:53For the first time this month, we have a widespread, robust green zone on the map.

00:57This is good to see.

00:59A lot of the lawns have been getting crunchy out there.

01:02I know I skipped mowing last weekend.

01:04It just wasn't necessary.

01:05There hasn't been a whole lot of growth out there over the past 10 days

01:08in parts of the interior northeast down in the Philly metro.

01:11Getting dry there in a big way as well.

01:14So overall, into Wednesday, here come some showers and storms.

01:18Meaningful rain.

01:19Butler, PA, up in areas near Batavia.

01:22And up into areas around Sotus Bay, New York.

01:24That's just a little initial round of it.

01:26But then the thunderstorms will be popping into the afternoon.

01:29And I really suspect that most of us will see a shower or storm on Wednesday.

01:33There will be numerous thunderstorms.

01:36And they'll be scattered.

01:38So some individual storms may miss you.

01:40But there should be enough of them.

01:41Multiple rounds around that most of us, not necessarily everybody,

01:45but most of us, probably at least 70 or 80 percent of us,

01:48will see showers and thunderstorms at some point on Wednesday.

01:50Thursday, some leftovers to the south as our front sinks southward.

01:54Here you can see we're highlighting some chance of showers.

01:58Connecticut, Rhode Island, down into places like Kentucky and West Virginia.

02:01Looking at Thursday behind the front, we get knocked down into the mid-80s in Buffalo.

02:05Low 80s in Burlington.

02:06Some lingering rain there.

02:08Showers around.

02:08Thunderstorms to Portland, Boston, down I-81 and I-95 for Thursday.

02:14And then Friday, a little drier for most.
