00:00:00Previously on Project Runway All-Stars.
00:00:14You are the ones that I wanted to see again.
00:00:18This is your shot at redemption.
00:00:20Oh my God!
00:00:21Reinvent the look that got you eliminated.
00:00:24The trauma.
00:00:26This is Silk. Get out of the file.
00:00:27I haven't done a lot of sewing.
00:00:31Remember that twist I mentioned?
00:00:33This season, there is no immunity.
00:00:36What?
00:00:37I'm gonna have a heart attack.
00:00:38Seriously?
00:00:39The winner is...
00:00:41Congratulations, King.
00:00:42$10,000.
00:00:43Oh, no.
00:00:45Victor, Nora, and Karasan, you received the lowest scores.
00:00:51Nora, I'm sorry you're out.
00:00:57Fashion designer Christian Siriano, journalist Elaine Welteroff, fashion designer Brandon Maxwell, and editor-in-chief of Elle magazine, Nina Garcia, are looking for America's next great fashion designer.
00:01:11At stake for the winner, a quarter of a million dollars supplied by Pilot Friction Erasable Pens, a feature in Elle magazine, and a career-changing mentorship with the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
00:01:23This is Project Runway All-Stars.
00:01:31All right, guys.
00:01:33It's time to leave the past behind.
00:01:35Thank you, guys.
00:01:37You're taking a little field trip tomorrow.
00:01:39Okay.
00:01:40I'm listening.
00:01:41So I'm gonna send Vance to your hotel in the morning.
00:01:44Meet me at Rockefeller Plaza.
00:01:46First thing.
00:01:47Oh, f***!
00:01:48Okay, all right, okay.
00:01:50And it's gonna be a wild one.
00:01:51Well, thank you for that.
00:01:55It's gonna be a good night.
00:01:56Can we go home?
00:01:58Oh, f***!
00:02:12Can you work out this morning?
00:02:13Oh, f***!
00:02:15Cameras everywhere.
00:02:16Enjoy.
00:02:17I wonder what's up tonight.
00:02:18What is it?
00:02:19Oh, my God.
00:02:33Oh, look at the car.
00:02:36It's a toy.
00:02:37Follow me.
00:02:40Oh, my God.
00:02:41Where are we going?
00:02:42Where are we going?
00:02:42Where are we going?
00:02:43Come on.
00:02:43Come on, little Christian.
00:02:45Come on.
00:02:45Oh, my God.
00:02:49Good morning, boys and girls.
00:02:51I mean, designers.
00:02:53Welcome to our world of toys.
00:02:54F.A.O. Schwartz.
00:02:56Christian is waiting for you inside.
00:02:58Wow.
00:03:00You look great.
00:03:15Oh, man.
00:03:18Come on.
00:03:19What are you doing here?
00:03:20Welcome to the iconic F.A.O. Shorts.
00:03:24Yeah.
00:03:24It is time for Project Runway's most feared, most revered, and famed way to torture designers.
00:03:35Yes.
00:03:36The unconventional materials challenge.
00:03:40Okay, I'm happy now.
00:03:42Fun and whimsy are widespread across runways everywhere now.
00:03:47Tom Brown doing teddy bear top hat in Milan.
00:03:50Gucci models were sporting gremlin bags and skirts.
00:03:53And Moschino just sent models down the runway in pool floats.
00:03:57Your unconventional materials challenge is to create whimsical runway looks from toys.
00:04:03Oh, F.A.
00:04:05All the toys you see here.
00:04:08This is a two-day challenge.
00:04:09The judges are not going to want to see a whole dress made out of stuffed animals.
00:04:18That's the fabric.
00:04:20That's not impressing anybody.
00:04:21You have 45 minutes to shop.
00:04:23Okay.
00:04:24And you each get $2,000.
00:04:27This challenge is really about creating new textiles and, like, leaning into your ingenuity,
00:04:34which you all can do.
00:04:35Yes.
00:04:36Now for your models.
00:04:37Okay, grab a bear.
00:04:39Cute.
00:04:40Oh, my God.
00:04:41Those are your models.
00:04:44Oh, wow.
00:04:44Jesus.
00:04:45God.
00:04:45Oh, my God.
00:04:47Oh, that was who I had.
00:04:49Back to your spouse.
00:04:49Back to your spouse.
00:04:50Back to your spouse.
00:04:50Back to your spouse.
00:04:52All right, designers.
00:04:53You'll have sketch time when you get back to the workroom.
00:04:58Okay, go.
00:04:59Ah!
00:05:00Oh, my God.
00:05:02I mean, what's this?
00:05:04Come on, baby.
00:05:05This is insane.
00:05:06I mean, fairytale is wonderful.
00:05:11What are you getting?
00:05:12Uh, kind of red and black and white stuff.
00:05:14What else is now?
00:05:16I'm getting, like, a few primary colors.
00:05:16Listen.
00:05:18Ugh.
00:05:20Ah, unconventional again.
00:05:21And let's go back to season 19.
00:05:24I went home on this challenge.
00:05:27But this time is different, though.
00:05:29Baby, this is my store.
00:05:31I already know.
00:05:32As a kid, I loved toys.
00:05:34But growing up in Haiti, I've never really got them.
00:05:38People are trying to survive.
00:05:39Okay, let's just put it that way.
00:05:41But first time in the United States, my mom was just showing me around.
00:05:44And, you know, she took me to her field shorts.
00:05:46I was still young.
00:05:47And I thought it was the most magical place.
00:05:50I would like to buy this little girl's dress.
00:05:52It's probably one of my favorite places in New York.
00:05:55I feel like my hoo-ha is out.
00:05:58I've always been interested in fashion.
00:06:00I've always been a high-maintenance queen.
00:06:02My favorite thing to do as a kid was dress up.
00:06:05I'm talking, like, my great-great-grandmother's furs with the satin gloves.
00:06:09Like, I wanted the good stuff.
00:06:10To me, whimsy is making sure that this thing is fun and playful.
00:06:14Look how cute this is.
00:06:16Is it worth $20 just for the pom-pom?
00:06:18I mean...
00:06:19Okay, let's just treat ourselves.
00:06:22Carathon, what are you getting?
00:06:24Oh, all these little colorful little macaroons.
00:06:26Yeah, macaroons.
00:06:28Wow, look at these.
00:06:29You cannot be getting...
00:06:31You don't need any more of these.
00:06:32You don't know that.
00:06:33I don't know that.
00:06:34That's a lot.
00:06:36You've had so many of these.
00:06:37I had five.
00:06:38What if I need seven?
00:06:40One of the coolest parties that I ever had when I was a kid,
00:06:43I think I was probably, like, eight years old.
00:06:45My mom bought a bunch of blank teddy bears from the dollar store,
00:06:48and then she and a couple friends helped us make our own customized teddy bears,
00:06:51and it was so cool.
00:06:53I gotta say, that was one of the things that really got me going as a designer,
00:06:56seeing them work.
00:06:57If I've made clothing for teddy bears,
00:06:59I'm sure I can make clothing out of teddy bears.
00:07:01I love a toy store.
00:07:06I'm getting two.
00:07:07How much are they?
00:07:08$60.
00:07:10What are these?
00:07:11I'm picking up a lot of little pieces,
00:07:13because I want to create my own textile.
00:07:14So...
00:07:14That's cool.
00:07:16Oh, yeah.
00:07:16Those are mine.
00:07:17Rami.
00:07:18What are these?
00:07:20Those are kites.
00:07:22Kites?
00:07:23Yeah.
00:07:23Cool.
00:07:24Look at Kane.
00:07:25Ten minutes.
00:07:27If all of you send out plushy teddy bear thingies and umbrella dresses,
00:07:32I'ma lose it.
00:07:35Oh, have this for my boy at home.
00:07:38When I see all the toys,
00:07:40it makes me feel I wish my baby were here.
00:07:43I kind of enjoy inspiration from the moments that I had with my baby with this challenge.
00:07:49I'm done shopping for the challenge.
00:07:51I'm shopping for my boy now.
00:07:54Um...
00:07:55I don't know.
00:07:57Do I have a game plan?
00:07:58The one thing that's not exciting to me is unconventional, like, toys.
00:08:06In the real world, that unconventional stuff does not exist.
00:08:10So my only game plan is to spend all the money that they give us,
00:08:13so I have options.
00:08:17I'll figure it out.
00:08:18All right, designers.
00:08:19You better hurry up.
00:08:20You have four minutes.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:22Okay.
00:08:22Okay.
00:08:22Okay.
00:08:22Okay.
00:08:22Okay.
00:08:23Okay.
00:08:23Okay.
00:08:23Okay.
00:08:23Okay.
00:08:24Okay.
00:08:24Okay.
00:08:24Okay.
00:08:25Okay.
00:08:25Okay.
00:08:25Okay.
00:08:26Okay.
00:08:26Okay.
00:08:27Okay.
00:08:27Okay.
00:08:28Okay.
00:08:29Okay.
00:08:30Okay.
00:08:31Okay.
00:08:32Okay.
00:08:33Okay.
00:08:34Okay.
00:08:35Okay.
00:08:36Okay.
00:08:37Okay.
00:08:38Okay.
00:08:39Okay.
00:08:40Okay.
00:08:41Okay.
00:08:42Okay.
00:08:43Okay.
00:08:44Okay.
00:08:45Okay.
00:08:46All right, designers.
00:08:47That's time.
00:08:48That's it.
00:08:49You need to be in line.
00:08:50Checking out.
00:08:51Thanks for having me.
00:08:52Bye bye.
00:08:53You're welcome.
00:08:54I'll see you soon.
00:08:55We'll have a lunch.
00:08:56This is gonna be fun.
00:08:57Yeah.
00:08:58We're back.
00:08:59We're back, back, back, back, back again.
00:09:00Okay.
00:09:01Okay.
00:09:02This is gonna be fun.
00:09:03This is gonna be fun.
00:09:04Mmm.
00:09:05We're back.
00:09:06We're back, back, back, back, back, back again.
00:09:08Okay.
00:09:09This animal is crying over there.
00:09:14Victors.
00:09:15It's like a creepy toy sale.
00:09:16I'm really psyched about these.
00:09:17My cool tech s***.
00:09:18My bitches from the future.
00:09:19So I think I'm going with like a red queen look.
00:09:21All cards.
00:09:22The whole thing.
00:09:23I love it.
00:09:24The theme I'm going with is space jam glam.
00:09:31A lot of times people hear whimsical and go colorful.
00:09:35I want my girl to go the opposite route with a futuristic feel.
00:09:36In my head, I see a top with exaggerated shoulders and some bead work and also a skirt.
00:09:42Mirror mirror on the wall.
00:09:43Who's the winner of it all?
00:09:44Me.
00:09:45I feel like the unconventional challenge shows you who you are.
00:09:47It really brings out that creativity in you.

00:10:39You.
00:10:40You.
00:10:41siblings I have a little love and hate relationship with unconventional it's
00:10:49the unconventional materials challenge if I were a judge I might put you in the
00:10:53bottom but I don't just be giving up on stuff I don't I don't do that I'm going
00:10:59to do unconventional but I have the right not to like it
00:11:04where the batteries go
00:11:11what are you doing I am making a chain skirt out of H's and other various things this is my
00:11:25this is your jam this is my jam I've got this idea for a really cool hip situation I purchased some
00:11:32children's umbrellas that are going to make this perfect geometric hip line that's so modern and
00:11:38couture right now it's gonna be adorbs can't wait I cannot rest on my laurels I won last week which
00:11:44is huge but it's a little crazy that there's no immunity but this season one minute you can be
00:11:49on top in the next minute you can be going home I need to figure out is if I can get these beasts
00:11:55now coming up let's go stress is real ain't it this is quite aggressive it is what the it's not
00:12:04telling me a story it's not giving me a clear point of view I don't know why you did it
00:12:09you're killing it
00:12:22hi everybody hey how are you hey Christian good are we filled with joy yep we are oh yeah you know it
00:12:33hi Kane hello sir how are you you have a whole dress already draped well I've got big ideas she's
00:12:40gonna start out and be like a princess okay and so she will reveal the badass queen bitch I am making
00:12:46this gorgeous black and white strapless mermaid gown with these sculptural hips and then I am gonna
00:12:53make these panda bears like a fox doll that's really cool this is a lot of work I mean I'm real fast I
00:13:00know but I'm gonna push it tonight I'm gonna push it real hard figure out what I can do
00:13:04good luck Mila you got unicorns and I got puzzles I'm gonna make a skirt and it's gonna be like this
00:13:15fabrication this whole skirt I'm making a skirt out of beautiful jigsaw puzzle tiles that look like a
00:13:24painting the inspiration behind this look is magic what's the top the top is going to be a fur
00:13:33hoodie and then you sure too much it's not as like sophisticated as I feel like your clothes are if
00:13:43this were 13 years ago I don't think I would have picked plush unicorns that's my material in season
00:13:50seven I chose black and white corrugated plastic paint tray liners that's on brand with who I am but you
00:13:58know there's another side of me that's developed in the last 13 years that is softer and I think
00:14:05that that's why I want to try something new if you can make it feel really new and modern it'll be
00:14:11exciting Brittany hey I see your tea party over here yes tea party smashing the mosaic that's what I thought
00:14:24for like the bodice and kind of make like really intricate make it look like beading and then have
00:14:28the skirt just be insanely full no you can't just use this fabric the tent but it just looks like
00:14:36fabric like twisted or turned or stitched and rose and cut up and you've got to show that it's something
00:14:44else in a way okay I will I'll push it bye see ya Fabio hey you can't just do a card dress why not that
00:14:53is so easy you've got to do something to these cards fold them mold them maybe they intertwine that's what I
00:15:00mean got it wow maybe a little too dry for me could have used a little lube but I guess what he's
00:15:07saying makes sense I'm gonna rethink what's gonna happen with these guards because I'm still gonna
00:15:11use the cards hi you have the most stuff I think do I yes so the idea is to kind of create a collage on
00:15:18a fitted dress you've got dragons I do have dragons and then I have these from the kites as well
00:15:25growing up in Palestine kites for me were a sign of like joy and hope when you look at a kite you
00:15:36always have your head up high and you're looking up to the sky as a kid who lost their mother at the
00:15:43age of five living under military aggression and curfews and dark times really for me it's symbolic of
00:15:52keeping your head up and and looking for the brighter side of things I may use them that's
00:15:58almost like the sleeve detail if you need it like edit yourself a little bit yeah can't wait to see me
00:16:05all right let's go these are just heads this is quite aggressive it is I am I'm gonna use them is that
00:16:21what we're doing maybe no you're not let me show you the sketch because I think
00:16:26my idea is to make a trench coat so I wanted to do a version of that but whimsical I want to bring
00:16:41like the campiness a little bit mm-hmm what's the rest originally I wanted to use these okay what are
00:16:46these the little boomerangs yeah they're boomerangs they like yeah they work no you have to go like
00:16:51this why oh you have to go straight let me do it like that yeah me too so I think this is your chance
00:17:01campy but still really cool fashion I think that is gonna excite them okay yes good luck thank you
00:17:09I'm coming to you because that's looking fabulous thank you what are you making I am thinking about
00:17:23making a raincoat tell me everything boomerang oh I'm trying to marry the toy with my style so that's why
00:17:32I decided to go with the hood this is a teddy bear I'm using a wooden pepperoni pizza pepper oh sure
00:17:40yeah so I had to drill holes in it yeah what can be the base sure mix with some other stuff but I
00:17:47haven't figured out the whole thing couldn't be this I don't want it to look all like this because
00:17:53that's very innovative very cool I don't know yet growing up did you like toys or play with toys
00:17:59uh growing up I was a tomboy and plus I have ten siblings so wow you get a toy in the house it
00:18:06lasts two days and there's no more yeah never see again we didn't really need toys these are ten people
00:18:11to pick on yeah absolutely be a noisy runway I know this like hello hi sir how are you
00:18:29I'm stuck everywhere finding yourself here yeah where I'm from there's no such thing as whimsical
00:18:34so when Haiti we don't have fairy tales this is reality if you want fairy dust and I'm the wrong
00:18:42guy but there's joy there's joy um the art music yes my mind went streetwear cool so I took a bunch of
00:18:51pianos which are over there my version of whimsical would be you know what makes us happy which is a
00:18:56culture of music of food to art I am going to make her pants out of these the painting fabulous
00:19:03amazing come back to my office okay the chair is gonna be one of the sleeves the chair is one of
00:19:10the sleeves oh and the baby blanket is the other sleeve you're putting too much stuff this is very
00:19:18graphic and cool maybe the chair will be dead and then we just use this for the see how we work
00:19:23when we're together look at that you want a hug oh there you go good luck now get out of my house
00:19:30goodbye all right designers have fun with the toys thank you thank you I think I have a really good idea
00:19:37yeah I'm gonna use this as my skirt and I'm gonna cut these into like little strips and collect them
00:19:43and just make it like cotton candy mm-hmm when you have only like three obviously it doesn't look

00:21:29the fingers are burning talk Fabio and Britney seem a little stressed they are going glue gun hard which
00:21:36to me is usually not a unconventional win but they have committed I think a truly good unconventional
00:21:43look doesn't need a glue gun here look because I'm really proud of this I want it I'm gonna do a
00:21:49proper like a waistband oh I think it's gonna be a perfect length if you do the elastic like pretty
00:21:54much the size of her waist when she put it on you won't see the elastic exactly problem solving on
00:21:59that's what Project Runway is
00:22:06hey do you think do you think this looks okay this texture like I want to make the whole body like this
00:22:12yeah
00:22:13my sketch because if you get half done and then only half is done and you run out you're screwed
00:22:19I'm gonna have to pour myself around to find enough yeah to complete the look it's my mission to find as
00:22:27as many boomerangs as I can do you have this color not that color you want this yeah I would love them
00:22:32thank you thank you it's a little bit of a suspense for me because I don't know if I'm gonna get them
00:22:41in my hand if Kato could just give me half of her yellow wings I will have more than enough yeah
00:22:47Victor are you using those little piggies or no no oh so I can have them for sure oh perfect
00:23:00Brittany what did any of the little piggies go to the market what did any of the little piggies go to
00:23:06the market oh yeah all of them are going to the market we all went to the market my girl's gonna

00:25:23this gray dress uh-huh Anna you can't show that it's it's a wrinkled mess you are dark and
00:25:39sexy and glamorous those are your clothes and avant-garde and that's what you should do here okay thank you
00:25:46okay
00:25:46oh
00:25:48I gotta paint it I gotta tape it you're gonna have a little red cross for a jacket that you can do a

00:26:46energy better work honey Anna's look there's no toys there at all
00:26:56how's it going these are macaroons they're macaroons why did it look like like a textured leather almost because it is it's rubber
00:27:10you gonna have enough they really need cocktails at this point I don't have enough yellow boomerangs
00:27:16Kato has some boomerangs but I don't know if I'm gonna get them in my hand when we were in all stars
00:27:24previously Kato and I were very competitive against each other and it wasn't a good feeling Kato is look
00:27:31you could call it a curtain where's the design oh you didn't think I was gonna win I am in big trouble I
00:27:40don't have enough to go all the way up so at this point I'm kind of counting only on Kato maybe if
00:27:46she doesn't use them maybe I'll use hers
00:27:49take the rest of yellow sure I didn't want to like thank you I'm gonna give you these thank you
00:27:57last time I think I was probably a little too competitive you know what I mean yeah I was
00:28:02definitely immature and I'm sorry I after that season I left home and I thought of you a lot I had to like air that
00:28:13out eventually it takes a lot for anyone to admit when they're in the wrong much respect to him for
00:28:20just saying sorry I appreciate that Victor look at this healing energy we got in this room right now
00:28:26bring the wonder bring the whimsy I'm stressed why are you stressed the back looks so cool I
00:28:38haven't heard I have shoulders I just got to put a body on it if it took me that long to do that piece
00:28:48I'm just gonna come up with something else for the body quickly I have this piano plastic fabric that I'm
00:28:55gonna use as a base but it's simple math equations am I being realistic and am I gonna have enough
00:29:02time to finish you guys ten minutes left no we're going he's gonna go and spray it come on baby
00:29:12don't the mosaic part yay it looks so good this needs a jam right now with three minutes left in

00:31:05I could cry now but I don't wanna try anywhere
00:31:06coming up
00:31:11your model has to be dressed in like 8 minutes
00:31:14Coming up, your model has to be dressed in, like, eight minutes.
00:31:20No immunity.
00:31:23What I want to know from you is why not try?
00:31:43Hey, yeah, yeah.
00:31:44Hi, darlings. Did you miss us?
00:31:51You better work. You better work.
00:31:53Girl, I'm working.
00:31:55I am working.
00:31:57I still have to make a talk.
00:31:59My intention is to embrace the organic aspect of it,
00:32:03kind of freestyle it on the mannequin.
00:32:05But now I'm realizing that there is just no time for troubleshooting.
00:32:10I have to be so careful, like, every time you turn something,
00:32:17because it's all paper and plastic.
00:32:18For the shoulder ruffle detail, I'm going to make it look modern and fresh
00:32:23by making it off-shoulder.
00:32:25It's not covered up.
00:32:26It's revealing, and it's sexy and fun and young.
00:32:28Hi, everybody.
00:32:34Hello.
00:32:35Hi, Christian.
00:32:36Wow, lots of progress.
00:32:40Gather around for me.
00:32:42I just want to take a minute to remind you all what we're playing for here.
00:32:46The grand prize.
00:32:48Quarter of a million dollars supplied by Pilot Frixion erasable pens,
00:32:52which you guys have been using for sketching and erasing.
00:32:55Yes, they're fabulous.
00:32:57Right?
00:32:57A feature in Elle magazine.
00:33:00Where, where, where?
00:33:01And a career-changing mentorship with the CFDA.
00:33:04Also, we added in six months of representation from Agentry PR.
00:33:13I've had the opportunity to have PR in the past.
00:33:16It's expensive.
00:33:18I'm glad I don't have to take it out of my 250,
00:33:21because, yeah, I'm going to win.
00:33:22So carry that nine, girl.
00:33:23Carry that nine.
00:33:24All right, designers.
00:33:25Here come the models.
00:33:27Awesome.
00:33:29Hi.
00:33:30Good morning.
00:33:31It's so crunchy.
00:33:38I did it.
00:33:49Got a lot of work to do.
00:33:51Okay, what we're going to do, we're going to adjoin them.
00:33:58Neck to butt.
00:34:00Just like that.
00:34:01Wow.
00:34:02We need a little something.
00:34:06I'm spray-painting the panda's eyes.
00:34:07This is what I've got to do to really get this, like, villain aspect across.
00:34:12Like, that is the whimsical part of my story.
00:34:16Kara Song.
00:34:16Yes.
00:34:17I've got this whole movie written for my character, okay?
00:34:19Okay.
00:34:20She's the queen of the pandas.
00:34:22Guess what her name is?
00:34:23What?
00:34:24Pandemonium.
00:34:25Oh!
00:34:26Are we ready?
00:34:27Hi.
00:34:32To finish this look, I have to use closures from a wooden toy to act as buttons, I guess, on the garment.
00:34:40I am doing my best.
00:34:42I am doing my best.
00:34:51All right, designers, when you're ready, take your model to the Bobbi Brown makeup studio.
00:34:56And the Tresme hair salon.
00:35:00Make it flat as possible.
00:35:03It don't even matter.
00:35:04I would love some iridescence in her face, like, around her eyes.
00:35:08We are doing something very, like, girly.
00:35:14I would go glam.
00:35:17Okay.
00:35:18We're going to go into a little bit of a deeper liner.
00:35:21Mila, look how much lining is coming through.
00:35:26Walk, Deedee.
00:35:27Show her.
00:35:30I mean, I knew it was going to come through somewhat.
00:35:32But, I mean, if you love it.
00:35:40Kane.
00:35:40Yep.
00:35:41Your model has to be dressed in, like, eight minutes.
00:35:44Yes, sir.
00:35:45She hasn't even tried it on.
00:35:48No immunity.
00:35:49Oh, trust me, I know.
00:35:51Just saying.
00:35:54Hester, does that little thing come off?
00:35:56Yes.
00:35:57It snaps off and she can toss it.
00:35:59I don't know if it's so whimsical.
00:36:01It's kind of dark.
00:36:03Dark?
00:36:03There's dark whimsy.
00:36:08Oh, one more f***ing ruffle.
00:36:11This ruffle is very time-consuming.
00:36:14There's no time to think, even for a second.
00:36:17My body is shutting down.
00:36:19Kane, if you don't put her in this in a minute, I'm going to be mad.
00:36:23See, just in time, Christian.
00:36:27Woo!
00:36:28Wait, this side is hurting.
00:36:33Oh!
00:36:34Woo!
00:36:35So, it's down to the wire.
00:36:37I've got, like, two minutes to finish the entire mermaid hem of the dress.
00:36:40I'm literally cutting around this hem so fast.
00:36:44All right, let's go.
00:36:46We're leaving.
00:36:48Designers, one minute.
00:36:52All right, that's it.
00:36:53Designers, take your seats.
00:36:55Let's start the show.
00:36:56It's going to be fabulous.
00:37:07Hello, designers.
00:37:09Hello.
00:37:12I have seen it all when it comes to unconventional materials in this challenge.
00:37:17So, I really hope you guys brought your wow factor.
00:37:21There's some wow.
00:37:22Yeah.
00:37:22This is where you really know, in my mind, who's technically the greatest.
00:37:27So, this is always really fun to watch, and I'm excited.
00:37:31Please meet your guest judge, CEO, and founder of global fashion brand, Alice & Olivia.
00:37:39Ooh!
00:37:40Designer, Stacey Vendette.
00:37:42Everybody.
00:37:44Hey, girl.
00:37:44Hey.
00:37:44Oh, my goodness.
00:37:46Everyone knows of Alice & Olivia.
00:37:47They have gorgeous women's clothing.
00:37:49It's a huge brand, and Brittany wears a ton of it.
00:37:52So excited to be judging this challenge because I love all things whimsy.
00:37:58We can't wait to see how you brought these toys to life.
00:38:01Let's start the show.
00:38:02Yay!
00:38:04Oh, my gosh.
00:38:05My model looks so good in my designs.
00:38:20The paillettes look a little bit different.
00:38:23I cannot.
00:38:24I'm obsessed.
00:38:24It's really cool to see something that is colorful that I never usually do that much.
00:38:32Like, what even are those things?
00:38:34I was trying to figure that out.
00:38:35The initial design, I wanted to be more overlaid on top of each other, but I think it's looking good.
00:38:41Unconventional is a very tough challenge.
00:38:49To see a completed look coming down this runway that actually speaks to whimsy, but at the same time is a fashion-forward shape.
00:39:00I feel like I hit all of the marks with this.
00:39:07I am super happy about it.
00:39:09It could have gone wrong so many ways.
00:39:17That's my look.
00:39:18Walked down the runway.
00:39:20I died and went to unconventional heaven.
00:39:24What?
00:39:25How?
00:39:27From not having any toys as a kid to creating my own is bringing me so much joy.
00:39:35I would buy that jacket.
00:39:36I would wear the whole outfit.
00:39:39I think I really did an excellent, unconventional look.
00:39:48Everything is good.
00:39:49Magnets are staying in place.
00:39:51Toys are secured.
00:39:56Not a stitch of it is expected.
00:39:58And it also comes together like an actual wearable garment.
00:40:01I am just loving how it turned out.
00:40:13It is very hard to sew this material.
00:40:19But I'm glad I took the risk, because it paid off.
00:40:27I think it's a very strong design, very strong vision.
00:40:31I just hope the judges can understand this is my whimsy.
00:40:36What type of choice would that be?
00:40:38I don't know.
00:40:44My look is completely finished.
00:40:46I love the way it's moving and walking.
00:40:48It's totally wearable.
00:40:51It's so fun. I love it. I think I did a great job.
00:40:54I love the fact that it's completed with a zipper and not sewn in or glued on.
00:40:59I'm really happy with it. I'm really proud of myself.
00:41:02I have no concerns.
00:41:04It's a roller coaster?
00:41:06Everyone went in a colorful direction. I wanted to be opposite and go in a dark, whimsical direction.
00:41:22The wings are winging, and I love that I'm pushing it with the textures that I've created.
00:41:33I'm feeling pretty whimsical about my look. She looks like she just came from the future.
00:41:37The shoulders, I love it. I would wear that.
00:41:40The shoulders, I love it. I would wear that.
00:41:42I literally could just, like, cry right now. The dress is perfect.
00:41:57You would never know that that is shredded tint and teacups.
00:42:09I'm pleased.
00:42:10Ooh.
00:42:11This look could probably be in one of my movies, for sure.
00:42:23Now that I know that sewing is like riding a bike, you are back in it. You can do it.
00:42:31This is just the tip of what I can create.
00:42:34I like the dog back.
00:42:36I mean, iconic.
00:42:38I'm just so happy.
00:42:46I'm not going to sit here and tell you, oh my God, this was the best thing I've ever done in my life.
00:42:51It's not, but I'm okay with it.
00:42:53I'm not mad at it, and I'm not in love with it.
00:42:57I'm just hoping to be safe.
00:43:00It is me, but it's not me.
00:43:08I see a lot of different colors that are interesting. I see the flounce that's moving around.
00:43:15I mean, I don't use plastic to make dresses.
00:43:20But I think creating a textile, that thought process does represent me, because it's about having a unique approach in the creative part of something.
00:43:29That kind of gives me a unique angle as a designer in this competition.
00:43:39I like the way my skirt has movement, feels whimsical.
00:43:46I am proud of my fabrication.
00:43:48Given more time, I could have executed this look better.
00:43:55I was trying to color outside the line.
00:44:05We've got the drama of the cape, the hood.
00:44:08This girl is about to allure you to get what she wants.
00:44:11About to have a reveal, Nina. I can feel it.
00:44:14Here it comes.
00:44:17Oh.
00:44:18That's cute.
00:44:20But it's a fashion show, so I've got to create some drama and some special moments on that runway.
00:44:27I also kind of even want the designers to be a little surprised.
00:44:32Definitely a whimsical moment.
00:44:35This is the best entrepreneurial challenge we've ever had, for sure.
00:44:42Designers, what a fantastic show.
00:44:47It was like FAO iconic.
00:44:51You all delivered.
00:44:53One of you will be the winner, and one of you will be out.
00:44:56We've scored your designs.
00:45:08Fabio.
00:45:10Carason.
00:45:12Hester.
00:45:13Anna.
00:45:15Vishmi.
00:45:16And Kato.
00:45:18You are all in.
00:45:21Congratulations.
00:45:23Good luck.
00:45:24She did say my name, right?
00:45:30We can breathe.
00:45:32Yeah.
00:45:33Awesome.
00:45:34Okay, here we are.
00:45:35Congratulations.
00:45:37This is two first challenges.
00:45:39The seven of you had the highest and the lowest scores.
00:45:44One of you will be the winner, and one of you will be out.
00:45:48All right, we're going to start with one of our favorite looks of the night.
00:45:53Let's bring out the model.
00:45:59All right, Prajie.
00:46:01You went home during the unconventional materials challenge last time.
00:46:06And now, how are you feeling?
00:46:07When I first came to this country, the first place I went was Afro choice, and I was blown my mind.
00:46:14Growing up as a kid, I never really had much toys to play with.
00:46:18So in my head, I wanted to create my own kind of toy, rock star, it girl.
00:46:24So that's why I went with the bass as a piano.
00:46:27This is the baby floor toy.
00:46:30And then, of course, I had to go and create an entire painting over that and turn this into a puffer.
00:46:35Wait, did you use the actual material?
00:46:38Yes.
00:46:39That's very impressive.
00:46:41And then you can stick it off.
00:46:43I love it.
00:46:44I absolutely loved it.
00:46:47It's cool.
00:46:48It's giving street style street wear, which is what you're all about.
00:46:51I hope you feel proud of yourself.
00:46:53This is a full circle moment knowing that this was the first store that you ever visited when you came to New York.
00:46:58And I think this is what this challenge is all about.
00:47:01So I'm really, really impressed.
00:47:03Thank you, Prajay.
00:47:04Jessica, you can lead the runway.
00:47:07Shall we go for another one of our highest scores of the evening?
00:47:12Let's get the model out here.
00:47:16Hello, darling.
00:47:17Hi, Kane.
00:47:22Hello.
00:47:23Tell us about your look.
00:47:24I always thought about my favorite Disney movies where there's always an evil villain that disguises herself as someone sweet.
00:47:32You have the evil queen pandemonium.
00:47:36I wanted to do something really modern and sculptural, so I also used the piano.
00:47:40But I cut and sewed all of these chevron strips.
00:47:43I loved it as soon as it came out.
00:47:45That's a very hard material to work with.
00:47:47The way that they met up just so perfectly, I think that you really delivered on that.
00:47:53To create something this fitted and this, you know, sort of beautifully constructed out of those materials is not easy.
00:48:01The humor of the pandas, of the bleeding eyes.
00:48:06I thought that was full of joy, and I thought it was incredibly creative.
00:48:11The bleeding panda filled you with joy?
00:48:13It did, because it was so humorous.
00:48:17Thank you, Kane.
00:48:19Okay, next we're gonna look at one of our lowest scores of the night.
00:48:23Let's get the model out here.
00:48:24Mila, tell us about your look.
00:48:33For the top, I used about eight unicorns and gutted them, and I decided I wanted to use a jigsaw puzzle to make a skirt, so I linked all the pieces together.
00:48:45I love the fact that this had a wonderful movement.
00:48:49My problem with this outfit, it's not telling me a story.
00:48:53It's not giving me a clear point of view.
00:48:55I don't know why you did it.
00:48:58What was the point of view?
00:49:00Fantasy and magic.
00:49:02It sounds vague, and it looks vague.
00:49:05I understand.
00:49:06There were elements that I like about this.
00:49:08I like that you put it with a chunky sneaker.
00:49:10I like the colorful bobble bracelet.
00:49:14It looks like you just didn't finish it, and then you grabbed a bunch of things in the accessories wall to try to make it look like something.
00:49:20I think it was that this process was quite time consuming.
00:49:23I had this very clear vision of what I wanted for the skirt, and I would have liked for it to be fuller.
00:49:29Thank you, Mila.
00:49:31Okay, we'll get another one of our lowest scores of the evening.
00:49:41Okay, Rami, tell us about your look.
00:49:43I took the kite, and I wanted to create a color story from this first one that I saw, which was a butterfly shape of a kite.
00:49:53Yeah, it's a childhood memory, so it's like, it's deep for me, but, uh...
00:50:00It's okay, take your time.
00:50:05I would see the kites, like, flying outside in the sky, and, um, I would see all the colors out there, and it was mesmerizing.
00:50:18I thought it was beautiful.
00:50:19You know, I love the splash of color in the middle of the sky, so that was my inspiration.
00:50:24I love the concept.
00:50:26I just think the construction of the dress fell short.
00:50:30It felt noisy, both literally and metaphorically.
00:50:34I probably could have edited somewhat.
00:50:37Do you feel that it did not succeed, or did you feel that when you sent it out on the runway that it was successful?
00:50:43I will stand now and honestly say I do love the color story.
00:50:46Yeah.
00:50:47Yeah.
00:50:48Thank you, Rami.
00:50:49Lyris, you can leave the runway.
00:50:54Okay, the next look was one of our highest scores.
00:50:59Let's get the model out here.
00:51:06Breathe, girl.
00:51:07Yes, honey.
00:51:08I've been sweating from every crevice I got in this body, I swear.
00:51:12Tell us about your look.
00:51:13The bodice is tea kettles, tea plates, and tea cups.
00:51:18It's really beautiful.
00:51:19This took most of my time.
00:51:22This is like 20 full panels on the tent.
00:51:25Just the fact that you were able to create that number of ruffles and construct such a beautiful skirt in that time is amazing.
00:51:33It definitely provides whimsy. When I saw it, I kind of smiled.
00:51:36I really was very impressed with your ruching technique.
00:51:43You had a strong point of view.
00:51:45Good job.
00:51:46Thanks, Brittany.
00:51:47Thank you, darling.
00:51:49Let's move on to one of our highest scores of the evening.
00:51:56Oh.
00:51:59Yes.
00:52:00Victor?
00:52:01How are you feeling?
00:52:03Oh my God, I'm like sweating everywhere.
00:52:06Tell us about your look.
00:52:07I really wanted to use this as a faux fur moment.
00:52:11And the heads of the dinosaurs, I really wanted you guys to see where it came from.
00:52:15And then I love these boomerangs.
00:52:18Wow, those are boomerangs?
00:52:20These are foam boomerangs.
00:52:21These are foam boomerangs.
00:52:22I thought those were like holly pocket spoons.
00:52:25Yeah.
00:52:26This is so fantastic.
00:52:28I was looking at this, trying to find a toy.
00:52:32The complete thought is so elevated and so chic.
00:52:35It's beautiful.
00:52:36I just hope you know that.
00:52:38It's flawless.
00:52:39Oh, thank you.
00:52:40Thank you so much.
00:52:41I mean, you were able to take these stuffed dinosaurs and create a shoulder and a structure
00:52:47and a coat that looks like it could be on a Paris runway.
00:52:50Really great job.
00:52:51Thank you so much.
00:52:52Roberta, you can leave the runway.
00:52:55You too.
00:52:56Bye, baby.
00:52:57Okay, next we have one of our lowest scores of the night.
00:52:59Should we get the model out here?
00:53:08Laurence?
00:53:09Yes.
00:53:10Tell us about your look.
00:53:11I use some boomerangs, fur, grommets.
00:53:18This is part of a piano and some wooden pizza from a pizza box.
00:53:23Well, I do know you're a very good tailor.
00:53:26What I want to know from you is why not try?
00:53:35Because, no, I did try.
00:53:38But did you?
00:53:39I don't know.
00:53:46Why not try?
00:53:52Because...
00:53:53No, I did try.
00:53:55But did you?
00:53:56I don't know.
00:53:57Whimsical is not really part of my vocabulary.
00:54:04Why did you want to come back to Project Runway?
00:54:06I think I grew in the last six years.
00:54:08I've been on the show.
00:54:09And just to show you what I've been doing.
00:54:13What would you say the story of this look was for you?
00:54:17I didn't really have a story.
00:54:19As I'm getting to know you for the first time, I'd love to have your work tell me something about you, even if the challenge takes you outside of your comfort zone.
00:54:29Yeah.
00:54:30I know you're a good designer.
00:54:31I see sort of where you were trying to do a suede, leather. I don't know. But this was surprising.
00:54:42Yeah.
00:54:44Thank you, Laurence.
00:54:46Amy, you can leave the runway.
00:54:50Thank you, designers. We have a lot to discuss. You can leave the runway.
00:54:55Bye, everybody.
00:54:58Bring it in.
00:54:59Rami, get your ass over here.
00:55:01This blew my mind. They made all of those looks with toys. Toys.
00:55:07Wonderful.
00:55:08It really was.
00:55:10The entire show and display of creativity was so impressive.
00:55:15It doesn't bring me joy, but we have to come to this every single time. We must choose someone to go home.
00:55:20What do you think, Nina?
00:55:22Well, Rami, I didn't think his was the worst one. It was the bottom half of his work that did not feel okay.
00:55:30It was ill-fitting. It was really stiff on the bottom.
00:55:32Yeah.
00:55:33But I'm willing to fight for him to see another day because of his conviction and his story and his passion.
00:55:39There was a lot of thought that went into it. It just wasn't executed as wonderfully as it could have been.
00:55:46100%.
00:55:47Rami's look was completely finished.
00:55:49Right.
00:55:50We may not have all loved it, but Mila, Laurence, there was like a shoulder that was done or a breastplate that was done.
00:55:57And everything else was like, let's just Hail Mary and see what happens tonight.
00:56:01Right.
00:56:02I was surprised at Laurence's attitude about her project.
00:56:05Yeah.
00:56:06I couldn't tell that she wanted to even be here.
00:56:08Sometimes you will meet people in the fashion business that have that attitude.
00:56:12It is part of fashion.
00:56:13What counts is your skill set.
00:56:16And the thing is, the look was kind of crickets, too.
00:56:19It's great what was going on in the back, but, you know, the runway is facing forward.
00:56:24It was pretty bad.
00:56:25It was pretty bad.
00:56:26And you know what was also bad? Mila.
00:56:27The jigsaw puzzle half-finished skirt with the lining hanging out, it lacked a story and whimsy.
00:56:35There was no clear point of view.
00:56:39And the ripped teddy bear top, I can't be positive about that.
00:56:43They both were not great.
00:56:45I'm really torn.
00:56:46All right, do we all agree who's going home tonight?
00:56:51Yes.
00:56:52Well, let's talk about our favorites.
00:56:54I loved how Brittany was able to construct a skirt that looked almost couture, turning pieces of a kid's tent into ruffles.
00:57:04I feel like the mosaic bodice just was really beautifully executed.
00:57:09It's impressive all the materials that she used.
00:57:12She did build all of those on top of muslin, which I think is just an easy way out.
00:57:17There's too many superstars up here for her to play it safe.
00:57:20I totally agree.
00:57:21Let's talk about Kane.
00:57:23I really appreciated the construction of that dress.
00:57:27The way he used the umbrella pieces on the side and created that structure out of really unconventional materials, but it wasn't my favorite outfit.
00:57:35I thought it was fun.
00:57:36I thought it delivered on technique, showmanship, on storytelling.
00:57:41Is Kane number one on my list?
00:57:44No.
00:57:45You really, though, sold it to me.
00:57:48I mean, you were the real estate agent that I was taking out Aline.
00:57:52Oh, now you want to blame Nina.
00:57:54I was imagining you walking up the escalator to Elle with the bleeding pandas and the cape.
00:58:00You know what I mean?
00:58:01I had the whole vision in my mind.
00:58:03I still think it's wonderful.
00:58:04I just have another favorite.
00:58:06I think if we're talking about which outfit was the most creative, I'm really torn between two outfits.
00:58:14Victor and Praje, I know, was pretty equal.
00:58:18It's really tough.
00:58:19Victor's look is very Moschino.
00:58:21Praje's look is very Louis Vuitton right now.
00:58:24They both felt like they could be on the runway.
00:58:27I really fell in love with Praje's story.
00:58:32To make pants in such unconventional materials fit that well was a challenge.
00:58:38He understands that his art is where it is.
00:58:42And he knows how to apply it.
00:58:44But also, Victor felt very much him too, so that's why it's such a hard decision.
00:58:49I don't even know how he constructed those dinosaur shoulders.
00:58:52You could really see his expert tailoring capabilities.
00:58:57He just chose the loudest, most ridiculous things that if those weren't perfectly lined up, it would have been a total failure.
00:59:03It's really hard. They were both so good.
00:59:08So do we all agree on the winner?
00:59:10Yes.
00:59:11Yeah.
00:59:12Okay, let's get them back out here.
00:59:16Welcome back to The Runway.
00:59:26Kane, Brittany, Victor, and Praje.
00:59:31You all showed us whimsy in a way that brought us so much joy.
00:59:36I don't think any of us have smiled so much looking at the show.
00:59:38I know, same.
00:59:39And you should all be really proud.
00:59:43Kane and Brittany, you are both in.
00:59:49Congratulations, you two.
00:59:51It's an honor.
00:59:52Our Southern Bells.
00:59:53Yeah, it's an honor.
00:59:54You can go ahead and sashay off the runway, as Brandon said.
00:59:57We did it!
00:59:59The winner of tonight's challenge brought a huge smile to all of our faces.
01:00:05The look transcended the materials it was made of and delivered full-on couture.
01:00:12The winner is...
01:00:17Victor.
01:00:21How does it feel, Victor?
01:00:22I just want to say thank you so much for your advice last challenge.
01:00:26It means a lot because I want to learn and I also want to better myself.
01:00:31We were all impressed.
01:00:32Truly commendable.
01:00:34Congratulations.
01:00:35You deserve this win.
01:00:37And Victor, you also win a prize.
01:00:39What?
01:00:40The favorite toys of any designer.
01:00:42An industrial sewing machine, an industrial serger.
01:00:46What?
01:00:47A full-on singer suite of toys.
01:00:50Oh my God!
01:00:54You didn't know that was coming, did you?
01:00:55Oh my God.
01:00:57You have earned it.
01:00:59Praje, you are also in.
01:01:01And a special congratulations to both of you for really, really executing against this assignment.
01:01:06We loved your outfit.
01:01:07It was so special and so creative.
01:01:11Well done.
01:01:12Well done.
01:01:13You won?
01:01:14No, girl.
01:01:15Victor.
01:01:16Come back, bitch.
01:01:17Mila, Laurence, and Rami.
01:01:31Unfortunately, unconventional materials were not your friend tonight.
01:01:35And you all missed the mark for different reasons.
01:01:38Rami, you are in.
01:01:43You may leave the runway.
01:01:44Thanks.
01:01:46For such a fun challenge.
01:01:47This is the part that's not fun for any of us.
01:01:48One of you will be in and one of you will be out.
01:02:01Laurence, we didn't see you in this design and ultimately it just felt uninspired.
01:02:12Mila, your skirt and top lacked a point of view and ultimately just didn't feel finished
01:02:17in the end.
01:02:18Both of you are very talented designers and that's why you're here right now.
01:02:23So, please know this was very difficult for all of us.
01:02:28But one of you has to go home tonight.
01:02:36Laurence, you are in.
01:02:42Thank you for giving me a second chance.
01:02:47Please, please show us who you are.
01:02:50I will.
01:02:51Thank you so much.
01:02:56Mila, I'm so sorry, but that means unfortunately tonight you are out.
01:03:03Mila, it was great to see you.
01:03:05I'm sorry this did not work out.
01:03:07I wish I could have given you a chance to see me get back on track.
01:03:11Thank you, Mila, for being here.
01:03:12You may leave the runway.
01:03:14Thanks for the experience.
01:03:17Leaving the runway feels really surreal.
01:03:20I really did think that I was going to be safe.
01:03:23I had a concept and I had a passion for it.
01:03:26Starling!
01:03:31It just feels too early to go.
01:03:33Don't cry for me, baby.
01:03:34I am going to because I've looked up to you for a long time.
01:03:38Aw, I love you guys.
01:03:39You know how much I appreciate you.
01:03:41You know how much I appreciate you.
01:03:43Just one more time.
01:03:47Hi.
01:03:48Mila, I think you're so talented, chic, sophisticated.
01:03:53This is like, you know, the most feared challenge.
01:03:56At least there was a little bit of joy in it, you know?
01:03:58For sure.
01:03:59But we'll see you again, I know.
01:04:02It's really hard to leave that room full of awesome people.
01:04:06I wanted to come back to Project Runway All Stars, not only to push myself and make things again, but also just to show the world who I am.
01:04:19I don't really think I had enough time to do that.
01:04:27Next, on Project Runway All Stars.
01:04:30Oh, my God.
01:04:32Long live the king.
01:04:34Oh, my goodness.
01:04:35We want you to create a formal gown fit for royalty.
01:04:40So, we're dividing you up into teams of two.
01:04:44It is looking medieval costume.
01:04:47Army!
01:04:48Give it a little icy.
01:04:49I am kind of stumped of what to say.
01:04:52It feels wilted.
01:04:53It feels sad and heavy.
