09:28so good to meet all of you we created kalia about 10 years ago and really wanted to form a brand
09:34that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function and i love how you guys
09:40have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted in performance if you're
09:46designing a look for pilates or run it needs to be able to function we believe there's beauty in the burn
09:53how's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure that when you're designing a piece
09:58it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab cocktails with your friends
10:04it needs to be versatile so not only has kalia provided look books it also provided all the fabrications
10:11for the challenge that's not all kalia is going to produce and sell the winning look from the winning
10:21collection that would be so cool to have a joseph mccray and kalia produce that i feel like it would eat
10:27down i love the idea of this like beauty in the burn so what if we have like fire on the runway
10:34like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part of tomorrow to create your fire worthy

12:19call our team the house of lotus because we wanted to feel the vent within the burn and so coming off
12:25the last challenge being in the bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as we're going through these
12:32fabrics that kalia provided us we're really paying attention to what color palette we want to do
12:38so that we really nail that cohesion this time because if we miss it two times in a row are we
12:43gonna be done for i love this fabric that was trying to get the colors out of this this has all your
12:49colors once again antonio is choosing the fabric and i'm getting a little anxious because last time he
12:58chose fabric we were in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back the fabric that i brought from home
13:04is in pink so let's have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies that's the best one out
13:09of all of them i think we should go with that i don't like that no you like this better i mean i like
13:16this i don't like that either but i mean i wanted to start with miss joan i want to know what it is oh
13:23is the drama already beginning you know working with the twins you know they're a whole vibe but
13:28our looks have to be cohesive i love miss joan but she's a little little old school and stuck in
13:35the back in the days this fabric's so cool it's just more young i'll make it work
13:44don't use the fabric scissors you nincompoop i love alex i didn't expect this competition to become
13:51so connective so quickly and me and alex bonded so quickly it's so soft it's so cozy like she's
13:58gonna be in it i want it i'm making a lounge sweatsuit with a corset bustier top it all sprouted from
14:08trying to use the aspects of a kimono i grew up in greensboro north carolina but my nana was a tailor
14:17from nagasaki japan so i find a lot of inspiration in what the japanese call intangible cultural
14:25treasures but my mama would say that i don't bring enough of the south with me
14:32how are you feeling this week feeling great it looks really cool thank you so much i appreciate

14:41my design aesthetic is a combination of street wear and elegance i want to win project runway for
14:49my daughter ava it's right here having her change me as a person it gave me so much more drive
14:56and i do this all for her so i have to make this stand out and hopefully while the judges
15:01i'm trying to always like see things that i like about vintage fashion but then giving it like my
15:15own little twist what about yourself i grew up in like a hoedunk farm town i just felt inherently so
15:23different from the rest of my family the only thing i could really do was you know rely on my own
15:28creativity and imagination to kind of distract me from maybe not feeling like it belonged there
15:34did they accept you as you are like you know when i finally did come out they were like we don't get
15:42it yet but we just don't want to lose you so we're gonna try to figure this out i feel really blessed to
15:49be able to have my family in my life so it makes me want to really push myself to win this for them
15:58to win this for them and that's what i'm gonna do for them to win this for them to win this for them
16:02how's the team going
16:06i do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord this might send me home
16:13i am a technical designer and i am a serious workaholic my family is jamaican and i've always
16:21been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not their job they're
16:26going to figure out how to do it that day and do it so i have to push myself because this workout
16:31to weekend challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone i really wanted to do something that was
16:37extremely comfortable i think it feels a little too demure i think i made the right decision
16:45i was the one who fought to use this print because ms john didn't like it she still doesn't like it
16:49okay so you did it again you wanted to print again everybody wants this print
16:58groundbreaking this circle skirt yeah i can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes
17:05really we're kind of not the exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket and a
17:14jacket and a skirt a jacket and a skirt let me tell you a little something about christian seriano
17:20christian come in the workroom like are you sure about that or he be walking around like oh okay
17:29that little face be killing me with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped into the side the top
17:34being fabulous is very important here we should develop this more because you already know you can
17:40make a cool jacket i'm going to listen to christian because i know i'm taking a risk but i do not want
17:44to be in the bottom again you got a lot to do i got you okay let's get it i'm kind of going for like
17:52that modern with a little bit of tron this sash doesn't do anything she couldn't do any athletic
17:59things with this hanging what are all these lines on this so i kind of want to achieve this kind of like
18:08texture all of these lines you're going to weave the inspirations for this design is the calia logo
18:15it's like a twisted string it's like very dynamic what are you doing it's going to be like a more
18:24like athletic fancy corset bustier kind of thing this makes no sense for an athletic look that scares me
18:35athleisure specifically is not something that i normally do unfortunately time is not on our side
18:42in this competition christian has his doubts about this corset but we're sticking to our guns
18:48hmm what are you doing i am doing an oversized hoodie which i'm thinking about cropping i did the
18:56pin tuck in my hand it's gonna have the same pin tuck in all over the pants as well so you're also doing
19:03a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant in the same fabric is the pant wide like that wide you
19:12haven't even looked at each other's stuff and she's like right she's right in front of you honestly i
19:17really don't know much about what my team is doing this is it yes looks very similar i haven't looked at
19:24the other designers on my team i've just been too focused so we just have a wide pant off on the runway
19:31in the same fabric what the like what am i gonna do next i need to think fast and pivot into some
19:38other different silhouette if i don't succeed i'm worried it might put me on the bottom
19:48so i'm looking at team lotus and it does not fit the brief that we got what's going on underneath so
19:54it's gonna be the pop out so we both have mesh their looks are looking a little all over the place
19:59i think that we're gonna take this one home and look at the other team it's like crickets in that
20:04side of the room no one's really talking to each other and here we are like you know blah blah
20:10and then at night she just puts a glove on honey okay this do this like we're helping each other
20:15this yes yes you think i hate to tell you but you will be the losing team

20:31this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top i think so so how does one do anything athletic
20:41in that top i think i'm gonna hit eating it up and it's just like yeah no are we playing tennis
20:51where you tie your arms up if i don't come through with this bra like i feel like the whole look is

21:00so different when i design on paper and design you you trend's pleated skirt it's really short i thought it
21:06was a mistake but it's not a mistake because mama i'm a slot you decided yeah yeah i'm gonna do some
21:15nice jorts and then the cargo pockets
21:20that shoe are you nuts what kind of shoe black whoa what

21:28you have no side seam there's no side seam interesting you can do that look at her butt
21:39that's crazy these pants are styled after a japanese hakama pant where there aren't really side seams
21:47and all of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to my japanese
21:55ancestors it's really important for me to nail this look that i make and i am feeling the pressure

24:17that goes from workout to weekend you worked in teams and you had only one day to create your

24:41i'm so excited to see miss sarah foster she has a really good head on her shoulders around
24:47how to make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's gorgeous okay we're ready let's
24:52start the show it's gonna be flaming hot i wish i had a marshmallow this got flammable hair now wait
25:00a minute i told you it was gonna be hot and i was not talking about hans and france
25:11i do feel like i have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with creating something
25:21that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tucking the silhouette the styling is really good
25:28i'm feeling really confident oh she's a professional you know you know
25:35i'm very proud of this look my look looks very modern sexy and fun and the red
25:40line on the jacket is everything that is a short skirt but she's got some good legs
25:52i'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as i expected it to be but i know what's going on
26:00on the inside this messy messy i'm not happy about it it could have been worse it could have also been
26:09better i like that i would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:18with my athleisure look i'm feeling pretty satisfied i like it i think it's cute it's nothing like really
26:25shocking but i am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:31she looks amazing i've worked hard to achieve that details that those string woven by hand i cut all
26:43those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile i want to make sure that every
26:49piece that i make is a labor of love i don't get that curly hair with that
26:53with its side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:05i would wear that now i may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so
27:09i'm hoping that it can pull this team rue to the win
27:12this look it's very universal this girl can do pilates and then put some heels on put a jacket
27:24on and go have a cocktail with the girl just at night i'm proud of myself it would mean a lot to
27:29win this challenge and have that collab with leah coming for the crown i'ma shut it down

27:39out i feel like it's me and i'm starting to be more confident in what i'm designing and believe

28:53lot of people wanting these pants wanting this bomber even the bag i love this our team everything
29:00was executed beautifully and i think that that showed on the runway we did go guys we did it i am not
29:06worried about myself but it's hard to tell you know it's two different vibes so i hope that the switch

31:42throw on a pump or a hill and go straight to the weekend which that was the challenge thank you so much
31:48i would wear that jacket to the gym but then i'd also wear it to dinner that night with a pair of jeans
31:52i don't i vibe i'm into you i don't know how else i can say it i mean i was into all of it i like
31:58your look too i like her vibe it stands out it's memorable to me she's badass and flirty at the same

32:11the work that you did on this top i think it's really beautiful i love all the detail that you made
32:20with the pockets correct and i love the fact that you considered an option she can be reserved with

32:34the detail of the skirt is really cool and it's a flattering waistband waistbands can go very unflattering

33:29effortless what i also love is the detail the fact that you thought about the zipper on the side can you
33:36turn around and that little pocket with that little black detail those details all matter yeah right

36:41i mean this is this is unwearable i also don't understand this girl i think the work that you've
36:46done i think it's quite beautiful but it doesn't scream active wear to me at all like i don't get it

37:35you added that detail yeah on sweats i think it's really well made but it's just there was no showmanship

37:47your look so quite a few of my pieces are also inspired by kimonos i incorporate into the way
37:53that i create different pieces is that part of your heritage to kimono yes my grandmother was japanese

38:07you're not going to wear a corset in the sauna but post sauna you can but you gave her a corset
38:13she doesn't look comfortable at all she can't work out in this guys the story has to match you

38:25and the sweater top i did like i liked the movement coming down the runway i don't know what

38:41there's the puckering yeah it is a struggle in the back there's a little bit of a problem with this
38:47bib that falls from the corset i think there's too many ideas put in the flap in the front the flap on
