00:00Gino Toretta, the Heisman Trophy winner, will be on the call.
00:04He'll be in Oxford, Mississippi this Saturday night on the call for Arkansas and Ole Miss on Touchdown Radio.
00:15How does one fly into Oxford, Mississippi?
00:18One flies into Memphis, Tennessee, and it's about a little over an hour north.
00:25But there's a small town in between Memphis and Batesville on 55 called Como, Mississippi, that has one of the best steakhouses in the country.
00:37So I will be in Como, he's doing the Ole Miss-Arkansas game.
00:42Yes, yes.
00:43And in two weeks, LSU makes a trip, and I will be back in Oxford, Mississippi.
00:48Same steakhouse.
00:50And I'm fairly certain there'll be more than 40 yards of offense in the half by both of these squads.
00:57Yeah, let me start, before we talk college football, I want to talk some Canes USF with you.
01:03But the Dolphins, you know, they got absolutely destroyed in week one, embarrassed.
01:09And how difficult is it to come back?
01:12And I know this probably didn't happen to you collegiately.
01:15Maybe it did in the pros.
01:17How difficult is it to bounce back from when you're not the super talented, you know, one of the top teams in the league?
01:28So you're already fighting for some sort of relevance.
01:30And you get exposed week one.
01:33How difficult is it to bounce back from that emotionally and just game-wise?
01:39Well, you'd hope that they're all professionals, and, you know, you should kind of put it in the rearview mirror.
01:47I think at least, you know, how two days that Channing and I went through, you were physically ready by week one through five and sometimes six preseason games.
01:58These guys playing two preseason games, and I know it's great having the practices against other teams, but nothing beats when you're out there and it's live.
02:07And I don't care if it's a preseason game for a quarter.
02:10When you've had a bunch of teams, I would say the entire NFL, I don't think it's good football until you're in week four, and then you see what you got.
02:20But, man, to have four, was it four?
02:23I wasn't even watching the game.
02:24My buddy just texted me the halftime stats, and I was like, 40 yards of offense?
02:29I mean, that's embarrassing.
02:32It doesn't matter what level of football you are, high school or college or pros.
02:37And, Gino, this is very football nerdsy because Xavier Howard, when he said all we have to do is pack the paint, they're not throwing outside,
02:46is that schematic or ability?
02:49Because I think back and I looked at the game, no deep outs, no seven cuts, no back shoulder fades in the field, no back shoulder fades in the red zone.
02:59Like, is it Tua can't do it or Mike McDaniel is not calling those plays?
03:04Because Xavier Howard called it out perfectly what their offense was.
03:08I would say this.
03:09Is it the offensive line can't protect it?
03:12I mean, come on, let's go back 25 years, everybody was running seven-step drops and trying to work deep, deep routes.
03:18They're not doing it anymore.
03:20I think Tua, he has the ability to do it.
03:22I mean, come on, he's been throwing seam routes up the sidelines since he was at Alabama.
03:28So I think he has the arm to do it.
03:30The question is, in every coach, like when Notre Dame played Miami, you've got a young quarterback.
03:38At some point in time, you have to just run deep.
03:41I don't care if you complete it or not.
03:45If you're Xavier Howard and he knows they're cutting in front of me in 10 yards, he's not backpedaling.
03:52He's not getting out of a backpedal.
03:54So until you run by a guy and they think, oh, man, they're going to actually try to throw it deep,
04:01then they're going to get beat like that.
04:03And you can bet, you know, the copycat league of the NFL, you can bet the Patriots are going to do the same thing.
04:09They're going to run the same defenses.
04:10They might throw some different blitzes based on their personnel, but they're going to run the same stuff that the Colts did last week.
04:18Gino, I'm probably overreacting, and I'm not even telling you that I believe this is what's at play here.
04:24But after how bad Tua did look on Sunday and just the overall record in the last 14 to 15 games, I believe it's seven and eight now.
04:33Is it possible for a guy who's just dealing with a lot, outside factors, the concussions, the constant, you know, media attention on whether or not he should be playing football?
04:46Is it possible that, you know, he's almost playing a little, I don't want to say afraid, Gino, but just like rattled?
04:54Well, I think if he's worried about those problems that we talk about, I think he's done.
05:10I mean, you know what I mean?
05:11And I would be really, I don't know, you know, if I'm the person that guaranteed him $100, $200 million and I have thoughts of that, I don't think he has thoughts of that.
05:23I really don't.
05:24I mean, he's made the decision, heck, I'm going to play.
05:26Guy never worries about if he's going to get injured or not in the game.
05:31I just, I don't know if he's pressing.
05:34I don't know if, listen, we all knew they were kind of all on the hot seat going to this game, really.
05:40I mean, you know, and Chaney said it, it's just like, what personnel moves did we make that were better in that area?
05:49Like, I don't care as a whole team, but like, what did they do in the off season where you're like, that improved our team?
05:56And, and I don't know, I, and especially after week one, I don't, I think you could say, I don't think any of them, you know, not much.
06:04Well, nothing was visible then.
06:07Will it be visible later on?
06:09Because their season doesn't get any easier.
06:12Let's be honest.
06:12I mean, you know, the bills look pretty damn good.
06:15I mean, you know, the jets, even, you know, I mean, like, I, you know, listen, it's, uh, it's a tough division and to start off like that in a team that,
06:26listen, they were deciding between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson at quarterback.
06:32And they came in and just smoked you that, that to me is like, you know, I don't know.
06:39That's it's, it's concerning.
06:41Rough start.
06:43Hawks, a big Judon fan.
06:46Give me Matthew Judon.
06:48I'm all about Matthew.
06:49You want to know how they improve themselves?
06:51Matthew Judon.
06:52Hey, well, it, it, it lends credence to, to, to, uh, Solana's terrible argument that it doesn't matter who the kicker is because it doesn't matter who the kicker is.
07:04If you have 40 yards of offense, it really doesn't matter who the kicker is.
07:08Although I don't know if you saw this.
07:10So, so Kentucky lost to, uh, to tennis or to Ole Miss by like 10, 10 points, I think.
07:17So they're getting beat by 13 with like under a minute left and it gets the third down or fourth down and Stoops kicks a field goal to lose by 10.
07:31It flipped the over under and it flipped the cover and, and apparently, uh, Kiffin, like, it was like, I apologize to, to, you know, us allowing them to kick a field goal right there.
07:45But it's just like, you know, I, I guess unless it's that, it doesn't really matter who the kicker is.
07:50What about, what about, you know, in the FSU game, they're up 77 and nothing East Texas A&M.
07:56I still think it's a fake school finally gets into the red zone and with like two minutes to go, they kick a field goal down 77 and nothing.
08:02Like, is that, is, is that embarrassing?
08:05Or do you just say, well, at least we didn't get shut out?
08:08Well, how long is their shutout streak?
08:09I know Florida touts, they get a long shutout streak where they haven't been shut out.
08:14It doesn't matter wins or losses.
08:15They, they touted it the last time they were shut out back when Spurrier first got there or something like that.
08:22Well, let's talk UM, USF here, Gino.
08:25Cause I was afraid that this was going to be a trap game, a look ahead game.
08:28It's obviously not that because USF disposed of the Gators in the swamp with no problem.
08:36I mean, let's, let's be honest.
08:38That wasn't without problem.
08:39I mean, it was an 18, 16, just awful.
08:42I feel like it was with no problem to be quite honest.
08:44That's not supposed to happen.
08:47They were getting paid $500,000 to lose and, uh, uh, walked out of there.
08:52They all hit Zaxby's and walked out of there with a dub.
08:55What, uh, what are you expecting Saturday?
08:57USF and UM, because from some who I've talked to, they're saying, Hey, it's cute.
09:03What USF has done.
09:05They're going to get outclassed Saturday by the hurricanes.
09:08The hurricanes are just too good.
09:09I'm wondering what you think.
09:10Well, personnel wise, Miami's better personnel than, than Florida is.
09:14I mean, they were last year at the start of the season.
09:16I told you when I did the Florida, Texas game last year, I thought it was the worst SEC roster
09:21I'd ever seen.
09:22And the next week they shock LSU.
09:25So I, you know, I didn't really figure out there.
09:27And then it was almost like, okay, you know, Billy Napier has righted the ship and, and that.
09:33And I'm like, well, there was a lot of writing of the ship or they brought in some great players.
09:38I think I, I, maybe they look, they got caught in a trap game.
09:42I think USF beating Florida will now force the Miami players.
09:47Hey, maybe, maybe the odds makers, like they're putting a big line on the game.
09:51We can't worry about that.
09:52We got to go out there, uh, and execute.
09:55I, I would say, uh, we were up by two touchdowns against Notre Dame and got awfully conservative.
10:01And, and I hope that if we get up against South Florida, we don't get overly conservative,
10:08uh, this week and, and let, let a team back into the game.
10:11And, you know, listen, Kevin Patrick's our D line coach.
10:14One of my old teammates, Marcus Van Dyke's our secondary coach.
10:17So there's incentive on the other side.
10:20Goalish is very good offensively.
10:23Um, so he's going to have some stuff for him that they have to adjust to.
10:27And you just, you, you just, it's about yourself.
10:31Meaning it's about Miami.
10:32As long as they execute and play up to their standard, they should be fine.
10:37But, you know, listen, it's the reason they play the game.
10:40And it's the reason college football delivers it entertainment weekly, um, every year.
10:47And Gino, I don't, I got to go back to the Florida USF thing.
10:51Cause I was in the house by myself and I was embarrassed.
10:54There was no, like, I thought embarrassed had somebody else to be there to be embarrassed in front of.
10:59I'm sitting on the couch, just shaking my head.
11:01Like, how the hell are they about to beat us in the swamp?
11:05People keep asking me, I need some guidance on this.
11:08So the, the, the, the story is if Billy Napier gets fired, it's either Gruden or we go and get Lane Kiffin.
11:16Pay him whatever he wants to get him out of Ole Miss.
11:18I'm a Kiffin guy.
11:19Which way would you go if, if this thing goes down here?
11:23Cause we have, I think we play four ranked teams in the next four weeks.
11:26We've got LSU, Texas A&M, Texas.
11:30Like we play a bunch of dogs.
11:31Not getting easier.
11:33So we lose the USF and we play four ranked teams for the rest, you know, for the next month.
11:38If it goes down, I want to go steal Kiffin.
11:42But would you think Gruden, who has openly said he wants to coach in college, which one would you go with?
11:46I would say this, either one of those guys would be a phenomenal coach for your offense.
11:51And it would solve a lot of problems offensively.
11:55I think they did kind of broach that Kiffin issue before they hired Napier.
12:03And, you know, the history, they were kind of a little, little scared off with that.
12:08I think that Kiffin has matured.
12:11He's just gotten older.
12:12And, you know, I think that stuff is behind him, the stuff he's had issues with in the past.
12:19I think either one of those guys, they've been successful as head coaches.
12:24And I think they'd be, personally, I wouldn't want to hire either one of them.
12:30Because then I know we've got a more formidable opponent.
12:36I've got to tell you this, Jay.
12:37I got a text from a buddy of mine up in Jacksonville up at the radio station up there.
12:42And he sends me this, you know, the two guys talking.
12:46And it's all Gator territory in Jacksonville.
12:49And, I mean, these guys are just killing the Gators.
12:53Like, this guy's terrible.
12:54That guy's terrible.
12:55I'm not even going to go into names.
12:56But the guy, he goes, the bad news billies.
13:00That's what his, that's what his grace for the Gators was.
13:05And I just, I just started laughing.
13:07But, remember, it is overreaction month on the positive and negative side.
13:13So, hopefully, he, you know, he's got a lot of guys in blue shirts that are helping coaching or analyze.
13:19So, hopefully, maybe they come up with an answer here in the next few weeks.
13:23From your, from your mouth to God's ears.
13:26He looks terrible.
13:28They've got a love-hate relationship with Billy Napish.
13:31Oh, my goodness.
13:32And if Florida State keeps on getting on, just think that's the end of your season.
13:36You're like, oh, man.
13:39Gino Toretta, Heisman Trophy winner.
13:41Safe travels up to Mississippi.
13:43And we'll talk to you next week.
13:44Sounds good.
13:46There you go.
13:46Gino Toretta, the Heisman Trophy winner.
13:48Gino Toretta, the Heisman Trophy winner.
