00:00let's talk canes and uh and fsu this is i mean explain it to me and obviously this one's always
00:07important but the canes look so much better than fsu is this one of those games where you say well
00:13rivalry game anything can happen or is this one where you sit back and say let's have a little
00:19fun saturday night boys well i i think you want to have fun i think you want to go out
00:23and play
00:24i think you want to go out and dominate it's an opportunity to to really go out and and and
00:29destroy your rival i mean that's you know and i think that's what a miami person wants i think
00:35it's probably what what the florida state people want florida state has talent on their team they
00:40do have some talent for whatever reason it's it's not sticking around for 60 minutes they were taking
00:46alabama and and pounded them early in the game and they had two half hour delays and coaching
00:53during those breaks for alabama was to the advantage of alabama and they they figured out what florida
00:59state was doing made adjustments and and came back and and dominated so florida state has the talent to
01:05play with anybody it's just a matter if they can put it together for 60 minutes um and i think
01:12right
01:12now it's it's i think i i read they haven't won a road game against a fbs team since 2023
01:22like in three
01:23or four years i mean it's it's a crazy stat holy cow and that it that's got to come into
01:31the psyche
01:31of the players um but they're gonna they're gonna be hyped and and ready to go and they have some
01:37talented players i mean i listen wake forest is now considered one of the best teams in the acc
01:42because they took us to the mat at the at the end of the game so i'm not uh listen
01:48it's a rivalry
01:49game and and these games met everything when i was in school i mean it was a road to a
01:54national
01:55championship we weren't in a conference we knew we had to beat them it to have any chance to win
01:59in a national championship and i think that's that's what this game means and i'm pretty sure that
02:04mark that's what mario and the staff are saying hey for us to win a national championship we still
02:09have to take care of business no matter how much we're favored by and win that this quarterback
02:14can do it you know i was looking at mince of stats man 1400 yards 15 touchdowns no interceptions
02:20i went over almost 11 yards per attempt he had one fumble didn't lose it that means he has zero
02:27turnovers the entire season like the numbers look like video game numbers is mince of finished product
02:32like do you see any i remember that 24 completion streak he went on one of those games like does
02:37mince have a thing that you're nitpicking at right now because i haven't seen it i i think he made
02:42some throws against clemson i broadcasted that one too so he made some throws that were pretty
02:47impressive like he had pressure in his face but my concern was is clemson was getting pressure they
02:53were getting to him um and i and i think that uh you know they check clemson challenged malachi on
03:00the
03:00outside and they were able to pretty much shut him down so i think that forced um him to go
03:06to other
03:07players during the game but i i think that uh listen i went down there and watched him warm up
03:13and and uh he was you know these guys are their warm-ups are tight it used to be just
03:18drop back
03:18reset hey i'm throwing these routes i mean he was running sideways zinging the ball 30 40 yards down
03:24the field i'm like damn that's pretty impressive i mean he was he was working up a a full lather
03:30so
03:30i think that uh he's he's close to a finished product and and he and he keeps getting better
03:36he's going to get more comfortable and and shannon's offense the more they go but i still
03:42always listen championships are one of the trenches are we going to protect him or as moton and the
03:47boys on the other side of the ball got to get the other team's quarterback and shut down the run
03:51and that's that's really the question that every week when it comes down to the rivalry though
03:56gino um fsu i know it doesn't have the same cachet right now because fsu isn't you know anywhere near
04:03miami's uh stratosphere currently but do you have a favorite memory from the rivalry i would imagine
04:09it's why to write one because you guys go on and win the title that year uh i think both
04:14i obviously
04:15both of them one and two that was the one was the first game of the century coined by abc
04:20and keith
04:21jackson and and it delivered they were number one we were number two uh i i guess maybe favorite
04:28moment was in the third quarter in the third we were down by 10 i think and we were backed
04:35up into
04:36their student section and the whole student section started chanting my name they were just like gee
04:41you know i just i i got a kind of that's cool about that and uh we ended up we
04:48ended up coming
04:48back and and winning that game and uh yeah that was that was that was pretty awesome but it was
04:54a lot
04:54of hype because i i played you know poorly as a registered freshman when we went up there and
04:59in 89 but uh and to go back up there and do it on the road because they were built
05:05up that was supposed
05:06to be their championship this was supposed to be their season they had casey welton he was the
05:12front runner for the heisman they had all these guys returning miami lost we lost eight starters on
05:18offense from from the 1990 team and we were a bunch of young sophomores and juniors that were they were
05:24starting and it was supposed to be finally their year it's just bobby bowden didn't give kicker
05:31scholarships until a couple years later we all have some great memories of this rivalry it's
05:38gonna be uh jumping on saturday night gino will have it nationally for touchdown radio you can
05:43listen to it on this radio station beginning at 3 p.m pre-game and then the game kicks off
05:49at
05:497 at hard rock stadium real quick before we get out of here um because i've asked this of a
05:54couple
05:54people this week do you have you watched cam ward at all in tennessee uh i watched a little bit
06:01last year i have not seen him play this year i know last year they could not protect him
06:05a lot of that is true this year too i'm just curious if you think he's still got leaps and
06:14bounds of potential to be an elite caliber nfl quarterback or if this is something of a harbinger
06:24of what we're going to see from him for his career i i think that he anybody that has that
06:32kind of arm
06:33talent can yes he can be successful in that league but i think listen i've seen a lot of guys
06:40with arm
06:41talent not have talent around them and and they don't turn into the player that they could be with
06:48better talent around them i mean you know look at david carwood he gets sacked 70 times in one season
06:53i mean just crazy like they you can't be any good playing from your back and it doesn't matter we
06:58can go back and find any tape of tom brady you know i mean you could watch tom brady and
07:03and and
07:04dislike the patriots and be like gee many christmas the guy never gets pressure on him and the few
07:10games that somebody gets in pressure you look ordinary everybody looks ordinary when they're getting
07:16hit in the mouth it doesn't matter at what level of quarterback and i just think you know you have
07:22to process so much faster and and it's just i what i hope is one i hope he can stay
07:28healthy
07:28and i hope that eventually he can be surrounded by some guys that that protect him yeah we're rooting
07:37for him but it's been ugly for his first 17 plus uh five his first 22 games have been ugly
07:47if you
07:48don't use it you lose it type thing i mean his head coach what is it solid now i mean
07:55he's like
07:55a defensive guy i mean there there's something to be said when you got an offensive head coach that at
08:00least you got a little more attention but somebody looking out for you because there's a vested interest
08:07in that side of the ball there's a lot of things that uh that the tennessee titans i think need
08:12to uh
08:12need to fix and they're not doing it with just uh one draft and uh one free agency it'd be
08:19pro it'd
08:19be easier to do that in college now because you could in in one draft just come up with a
08:24bunch of
08:24cash and and we're flooding the market there's no salary cap yeah we don't care we're all in on
08:31next season there's no dead money uh you can hear him this saturday on touchdown radio for canes
08:38fsu gino toretta is brought to us each week by the plumbers local 519 if you're graduating high
08:44school changing careers or know someone looking for a future with a purpose excellent training and
