There's no way to describe the Dolphins loss to the Browns other than disgraceful. The franchise is at a new low with zero changes happening.
Transcript
00:00We've got to do this.
00:02Let's do this.
00:05Dolphins, oy vey.
00:07Hurricanes, oy vey.
00:09And the Florida Panthers, oy vey.
00:12Solana's putting on a paper bag.
00:14Paper bag time.
00:16I mean, his Heat haven't won a preseason game either.
00:19I mean, this guy's got myriad reasons to be wearing a paper bag on his head.
00:24Focus on what's important, Hawk.
00:25Focus on what's important.
00:26The Heat haven't played a regular season game yet.
00:30One team deserves paper bag for sure.
00:34Oh, my God.
00:35Damn, Miami Gardens.
00:37I mean, you know, Barry Jackson from the Miami Herald, he tweeted out,
00:41when I've asked a Stephen Ross associate why no changes,
00:44he cited the owner wanting to give McDaniel and Greer a fair amount of time
00:50to turn this around.
00:51And Barry Jackson tweets, yesterday and previous weeks did not qualify,
00:56in his view, as reasons to change from that approach.
01:00Who knows what will?
01:02And I'm of that.
01:04Listen, I am a believer in patience.
01:07I'm a believer in stability.
01:10I'm a believer in giving context to losses and seasons.
01:16I did it for the entirety of last season.
01:19I said there's a problem with the backup quarterback, which, by the way, I want to get into as well,
01:24because they identified Zach Wilson.
01:26Out of all the quarterbacks who were available, they identified Zach Wilson.
01:30And then by game seven, they identified Quinn Ewers as being better than the guy they identified
01:36as the hope for the backup.
01:38But regardless, I'll get to that later.
01:39I have an opinion on that one, too.
01:41At some point, patience and stability and just standing by your man, at some point, it's stupid.
01:54Like, at some point, it's just not warranted.
01:58Again, I think it's laudable.
02:01I really do.
02:02I think it's laudable to say, hey, you're the guy I hired, and I believed in you before the season started.
02:08I'm not going to not believe in you less than half the season in.
02:13But at some point, it's just stupid.
02:18It doesn't serve a purpose.
02:21And I can't figure out what purpose it serves to have Mike McDaniel as the head coach of this team anymore.
02:30Or, and this one hurts me, I don't know what purpose it serves to have Tua as your starting quarterback.
02:38Next week, at least.
02:41Give him a breather.
02:42I'm not saying he loses the starting quarterback job.
02:45I'm saying he's been so bad that maybe you just need a break for a week to where, hey, get your head together.
02:57You play with the backups.
03:01And let's just try to make something happen where there's nothing happening.
03:07I don't know.
03:08But the fact that Chris Greer and Mike McDaniel are still employed is shocking to me.
03:12Because, again, I'm a big believer in patience and stability.
03:15But at some point, you have to say, if you're the owner of the operation, what transpired yesterday was so unacceptable that someone's head has to roll.
03:30And it's not.
03:31But Tua first, last week shook Tua.
03:35The criticism, the national negativity on Tua.
03:37He can say whatever he wants about not listening.
03:39And people told us, if you tell him, you know, there was a world earthquake, he wouldn't know because he doesn't watch.
03:47That's a lie.
03:48He was shook.
03:49He was trying too hard.
03:51He was trying to prove something.
03:52The McDaniel, Chris Greer thing, like the football gods has now shown Stephen Ross an ass-kicking week one.
04:02Then a close game.
04:04And then a loss late.
04:06And now another ass-kicking.
04:07The football gods are trying to give him everything he needs to say this isn't what it is.
04:12I don't know the reason behind it.
04:14I'm not the call.
04:15We are both.
04:15Neither of us.
04:16None four of us are the fire everybody guys.
04:19But you just have to see this and say this is embarrassing.
04:23That's embarrassing football.
04:25And let me tell you, I watched the game because I couldn't watch it live.
04:29I was doing an F1 crap.
04:31I watched the game knowing that it's a blowout.
04:33So I'm watching it very skeptical of anything that happened positive.
04:38The O-line can't block physically and they can't identify where the guys are coming from.
04:44So they don't know who to block.
04:45And then when they do know who to block, they can't block them with ability.
04:50They don't know who and they can't.
04:51There's a play that went viral on social media of Savai Naya getting rolled in a way where he looks like it was me trying to protect the quarterback.
05:03On the third interception, I believe, the one in the end zone when he threw it out, there was a guy running scot-free at him.
05:10Nobody even looked at the fellow that went and hit two in his chest.
05:13No one knew he was around.
05:15I don't know who to block.
05:16And when there is a dedication, I get run over like I'm a three-year-old.
05:20The receivers, I don't want to say they gave up on Tua.
05:24They just looked like they were running in slow motion.
05:27And you're like, oh, it's wet.
05:29The Browns people didn't like they were running that slow.
05:33Jalen Waddell's a very fast human being.
05:35Defensively, they ran the same exact play that the Carolina Panthers run.
05:40When Judkin broke that long run, same exact play.
05:44Zone cutback.
05:45You're supposed to self-scout and self-correct.
05:47They're not self-correcting because they don't have the guns to self-correct.
05:51I put in a bet already.
05:53B. John Robinson, over 400 yards rushing for next Sunday.
05:58If Judkins and Rico Dowdle, I mean, literally, there's not a running back who's not frothing at the mouth to get a crack at this defense.
06:11They don't have the guns, so that's why the Chris Greers jump in.
06:15They don't have the weaponry in that entire building to stop the run.
06:19They can't do it.
06:20They bring the safeties down, and they're trying to get the safety one-on-one with the running back.
06:25That's what happened when the touchdown is.
06:26The 25, I don't know.
06:28Can he see who's 25?
06:31He had me so hot.
06:33My goodness.
06:34Like, they're not as talented.
06:37They're not as talented as the Cleveland Browns.
06:41Which is shocking because on paper, I feel like they are, but they're obviously not.
06:47I mean, listen, for me, it kind of starts and ends with Tua at this point.
06:50He is a shell of himself.
06:52And if you can, in that game, playing from behind, still only find Jalen Waddle one time for 15 yards, then something's wrong.
07:06Jerry Judy's better than Jalen Waddle?
07:10Yeah.
07:11I mean, I'm not going to argue it today.
07:15Watching the game, you're looking at him.
07:17We have Jalen Phillips, Bradley Chubb.
07:19No, Miles Garrett is what we need.
07:21We need a Miles Garrett.
07:23That's what we need.
07:23If you just look at that game, there are that much more talented than us.
07:29And, oh, okay.
07:31So 28 is going to get the ball 416 times.
07:34I could figure out a defense to stop that.
07:36It's getting embarrassing.
07:38The football gods have showed Ross everything they can show him.
07:41I don't see the perk.
07:42Like I said, are they going to find the next best head coach on October 21st if they fire him tonight?
07:47No.
07:47But for the reason for him to be in that building, I would say just doing the um, um, um talk and losing all confidence in his team with the team losing confidence in him.
07:56I think it is a disservice to the organization to just keep these guys around to be nice.
08:02Well, what I would say is this, and first of all, sports talk on WQAM is presented by Paramount plus you can't count on much, but you can always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS and Paramount plus watch your local NFL game live every Sunday, all season long.
08:15Visit Paramount plus dot com slash NFL to get started today.
08:19What I would say is Mike McDaniel preached.
08:25After the Chargers game.
08:28And then after the two, a post game debacle, put it out of your mind.
08:32It's all forgotten after the Cleveland game, but then the Cleveland game comes and it's way worse.
08:39And it's more embarrassing than anything they've done this season.
08:45So to that point, Crowder and Solana, how can Mike McDaniel continue to lead the team?
08:52If your leader continues to preach something and instead of it happening, like he says, it's going to happen.
09:02When the opposite happens, then if you're a player, why on earth wouldn't you just tune him out?
09:10And so when you say it's a disservice to the organization, I agree.
09:14If my leader says to me after the Chargers game and after what Tua says after the game, hey, put it out of your mind.
09:20We're focusing on Cleveland.
09:22And after we get to Cleveland, no one's going to think about what happened at the end of that Chargers game.
09:27And no one's going to think about what happened in the post game press conference.
09:30And no one's going to be worried about what happened because we're a week by week organization.
09:35Put it out of your mind.
09:36And I go, okay, boss, I'm with you.
09:39I put it out of my mind.
09:41And then Sunday rolls around and then Monday rolls around.
09:45And every bleepin' talk show nationally is talking about me again in an embarrassing fashion.
09:52Why am I going to listen to what that guy has to say ever again because he's shown me the words are hollow?
10:04100%.
10:04And that's what happened.
10:05I was a part of it.
10:07What's going on now with Mike McDaniel is what went on with Cam Cameron.
10:11This is Cam.
10:12This is Cam.
10:12He had a longer tenure and he had 2023.
10:16We're still living off 2023.
10:17He had 2023.
10:19But there's no way.
10:21We're listening.
10:21Do you think he turns into Martin Luther King in his press conferences with the team?
10:28Right.
10:29When they're sitting in that team meeting room this morning, there's no way.
10:33If they had, well, I hope they couldn't call it a victory Monday.
10:37Just take tomorrow off embarrassment Monday.
10:40They had to have had a team meeting today.
10:42He's up there saying, well, guys, that didn't really go, you know, with 11 on 11 football.
10:51You know, we can't really make a mistake.
10:55Okay, coach.
10:57Do you have anything to say encouraging?
11:00Do you have anything to say how we're going to write this shit?
11:02And even if he didn't have all the ums in there, again, he's going to preach the same thing, which is, well, we've got to focus on Atlanta.
11:09But you tried that on me after Indianapolis, and you tried that on me after the Chargers, and you tried, like, enough.
11:17I can't listen to what you have to say anymore.
11:22New voice.
11:24New voice.
11:25It's not going to change fortunes.
11:27No.
11:27But a new voice.
11:30And a reinvigoration.
11:33Because I didn't, I hate to question effort.
11:39Because now you're saying guys are giving up.
11:41And I really don't think guys give up.
11:43But just, they didn't seem tenacious.
11:47Even making plays.
11:48When guys did make a play, it was like, oh, yay.
11:52Oh, yay.
11:53Tackle.
11:53Backfield.
11:54Go, go, go.
11:55Good job.
11:56It wasn't, it wasn't what I'm used to seeing.
11:58I was going to say good teams.
12:00It wasn't what I'm used to in football.
12:01I'll say that.
12:02I got the, I'm looking at the text machine.
12:04So now what?
12:06Freaking fool, Hockman.
12:08The fans always knew Tua sucked.
12:11Flores did.
12:12They knew this team sucked before the season started.
12:15But you?
12:16Clueless.
12:18Yeah, okay.
12:18But I don't make decisions involving the team.
12:20Like, the guys who made the decisions involving the team, they didn't consult with me.
12:25And listen, Vegas had them at eight and a half wins.
12:29Which means Vegas thought it was a 50% chance they'd have nine wins.
12:3450% chance they'd have eight wins.
12:36You had a brain trust of football people giving Tua a quarter of a billion dollars.
12:42You had guys like Chris Perkins from the Sun Sentinel, who's more negative than I am regarding the Dolphins, had them as an eight or a nine win team.
12:51So when you say, and now what?
12:53Yeah, it wasn't my job to hire Tua in the first place.
12:58It's not going to be my job to bench him.
13:00It's not my job to retain Chris Greer.
13:02It's not my job to fire Chris Greer.
13:05It's not my job.
13:06So, yeah, freaking fool texter.
13:09Now what?
13:10I don't know.
13:12I'm reacting the way you are.
13:13I think the only logical way to get out of any of this and to turn this season around, more player-only meetings, guys.
13:23Who's with me?
13:23Player-only meeting.
13:25One more.
13:25Give me one more player-only meeting.
13:27Is he super loud, Jimmy?
13:28He sounds much louder than the rest of us.
13:30He's not that much louder.
13:32He seems super loud to me.
13:35He blew my eardrums out.
13:37Let's do...
13:38To the texter's point, I thought you were going to come on today and say,
13:4011-6, fellas.
13:43Well, I do see some positives, if you want to know the truth.
13:49I love when people get angry.
13:51Like, I see this on social media with, like, the Dolphins beat writers.
13:54Like, they get angry at the Dolphins beat writers.
13:56Like, they're calling the offense.
13:58Like, hey, everybody's got an opinion.
14:01Listen, there were more opinions.
14:04Now, you, texter, you can live in your own social media bubble where everyone agrees with you.
14:11The Dolphins were going to stink and Tua was going to stink.
14:14That was not the prevailing notion.
14:17It wasn't around the league and it wasn't around the fans.
14:22People may not have expected a Super Bowl, but no one expected this.
14:27Unless you, of course, you, texter.
14:29You expected this.
14:30We know that you had this.
14:31I've been the...
14:32You guys call me the Tua hater.
14:34I've been the biggest Tua detractor.
14:36For the past couple years, even in 2023, I wasn't expecting this type of drop-off.
14:41No one was.
14:42We are seeing, legitimately, some of the worst quarterbacking play in the last 25 years from Tua Tungabailoa,
14:49who probably is the best quarterback the Dolphins have had since Dan Marino.
14:53At the very least, he had the best season a quarterback has had.
14:56As bad as he has been this season, is the best Dolphins quarterback you have ever watched in your life.
15:03He had the best season.
15:05The Dolphins have had post-Marino.
15:07Hawk, right now, Tua Tungabailoa is playing similar to Cleo Lemon-type football, man.
15:14But he has had the best Dolphins career of any quarterback you've ever watched.
15:19It's not saying much, though, to be fair.
15:21No, no, no, I understand that.
15:22I'm just telling you, Tua, in however old you are, 30 years old, you have never had a better quarterback,
15:30quarterback your Dolphins team, than Tua Tungabailoa.
15:33You haven't.
15:34I could make the case that this is worse than any of those previous quarterbacks.
15:38No, no, no, but I'm saying in totality, this season is one of the worst seasons you'll ever see
15:44from a starting Dolphins quarterback, especially one who had expectations.
15:48But you, in your lifetime, have never had a quarterback talked about in the MVP race.
15:53You're right.
15:54Other than Tua.
15:54But I'd say this situation is worse than previous situations because we got fooled.
15:59Oh, yeah.
15:59And the Dolphins paid him a quarter of a billion dollars.
16:02Yeah, they're on the hook.
16:03And now, what do you do?
16:04The cap ramifications to get out from under Tua Tungabailoa's contract is a worse situation
16:10now knowing what we know, which is this guy, unfortunately,
16:13whether it's injury, whether it's concussion, whatever the reason is,
16:18this guy's cooked, brother.
16:20This guy's cooked.
16:21Hey, he looks mentally cooked.
16:22He looks physically cooked.
16:23He looks cooked.
16:25And the thing that you could constantly point to, we talked about it,
16:28and I know Barry Jackson wrote an article.
16:30I had mentioned Kyle Krabs kind of diving into the numbers last week, gentlemen,
16:33where the one thing you could rely on with Tua was accuracy,
16:37especially between 10 to 19 yards.
16:40And he can't make those throws anymore.
16:43He just can't.
16:45What do you do?
16:47When you say cooked, physically?
16:49Everything.
16:50Mentally, physically.
16:51He can't make the throws that he was making that made him an elite, accurate passer.
16:57Not player, but passer.
16:59He can't make those throws right now.
17:00And this isn't a two-game sample size.
17:02And I realize losing Tyreek Hill is important, but at the end of the day,
17:06you have to rely on your quarterback to make the type of throws that make him a good quarterback,
17:12and you can't rely on him to do that anymore.
17:15But I've seen him make some good throws, and this is why, like,
17:20is Tua Cook or is McDaniel's fault this offense?
17:23Carolina game.
17:24Zero points in the third quarter.
17:26You have an entire half to speak with an entire staff about what they're doing defensively against us.
17:32You come out in the third quarter, zero points.
17:35Chargers game.
17:36Let me guess.
17:37Zero points.
17:38Browns game.
17:40They ain't scoring a damn point in the second half, not just the third quarter.
17:44Did you see what his QBR was?
17:46What are you doing at halftime?
17:48Because that's when offensive gurus, air quotes, that's when they figure it out and have an approach.
17:53Crowder, Tua can't throw the ball past the line of scrimmage.
17:57And yesterday, you know what they did at halftime?
17:58They came out.
17:59They said, hey, as bad as it's been.
18:01Force one.
18:02This is still a winnable football game.
18:05Let's turn things around.
18:06And guess what Tua did?
18:07The first snap of halftime, he threw an awful pass to Devon H.
18:11And guess where?
18:12One yard in front of the line of scrimmage.
18:14He threw it out of his reach.
18:16And it got taken back for a pick six.
18:18You know what his QBR was yesterday, Crowder?
18:20Oh, in the teens.
18:23Teens!
18:23He would pay you his contract for it to be in the teens.
18:28Three!
18:30A three?
18:31Three!
18:33Good grief.
18:34His QBR was three!
18:38All right, let's do headlines.
18:39John Michaels is going to join us because I want to talk Hurricanes as well.
18:42They crapped the bed as well.
18:44So, headlines brought to you by Darrell Kia, home of the Pricito, our lowest price.
18:49Visit them at DarrellKia or DarrellKia.com.
18:52Well, Mike McDaniel says everything is on the table.
18:55Oh.
18:56All right.
18:59Like what?
19:00His playbook?
19:01Is it like...
19:01If it's no change in any staff members, what's on the table?
19:08Everything.
19:09Forfeiting?
19:10I do believe benching Tua is on the table.
19:15You have to make a splash move.
19:18You have to.
19:20Yes.
19:20You're a laughingstock.
19:22And if the splash move is not getting rid of McDaniel or Greer, Tua has to sit next week.
19:28I'm not saying for the season.
19:30I'm not saying he lost his starting job.
19:32I'm saying he lost something the last couple of weeks.
19:35He needs a week to get his head straight.
19:38So, you benched Tua, and I've seen this, and, you know, so now is Quinn Ewers the starter?
19:44Yeah.
19:44So, the two guys that love Tua...
19:45Well, that's a whole other conversation in and of itself, if it's Quinn Ewers or not.
19:49So, the guys that love Tua and established that Zach Wilson was the best backup after the Tim Boyle situation,
19:56now they're rolling on the sideline, and Tua has on a hat and a headphone?
20:00But we called it, didn't we, $6 million to go to Zach Wilson, and you guys...
20:05Could have had the past or not.
20:07Could have had the past or not, who threw a dime yesterday.
20:09$6 million that could have...
20:11That money could have been allocated to what?
20:13Offensive line depth?
20:15Secondary depth?
20:16Or you could have allocated another $3 or $4 million to that position and gotten Jameis Winston.
20:21But it wouldn't have mattered at this point, huh?
20:22I don't know, man.
20:23It wouldn't have mattered.
20:24By the time you have to make this decision, you're sitting at one and six anyways.
20:27Yeah, but if you have a quality backup who's been a winner before, sitting behind him,
20:32maybe it doesn't get to this point.
20:33I don't know.
20:34But if you have, at the very least, the ability to run the football, you can lean on something
20:38else to help at least alleviate some of the transgressions from your quarterback, you can
20:48lean on it.
20:48But they can't.
20:49You know why?
20:50Because the right side of their offensive line, after the third snap of the season,
20:54was toast, and they have nobody else to fall back on because they didn't allocate the
20:59necessary resources to depth on the offensive line, which should have been priority number
21:04one this offseason.
21:05And once again, they didn't do it.
21:07Somebody texted in, by the way, I bet all the two unders, bingo, money in the bank.
21:11Well, then you're losing money on the two rushing under because the over has hit every
21:17bleeping week, including yesterday.
21:21Two are rushing over for life.
21:24When two is going through something, a rough patch, we'll call it.
21:28He's not cooked.
