00:00Welcome to your afternoon weather update from the Met Office. The satellite picture from earlier shows quite a bit of
00:06cloud out in the Atlantic and down to the southwest.
00:09There's a little swirl, that's an area of low pressure, but high pressure continues to dominate and control things.
00:16There's a weather front way out west, but that's being pushed up to the north and across Iceland.
00:21This one is generating quite a bit of cloud and some showers over France and potentially through the Channel Isles
00:27as well.
00:27But under the area of high pressure, most of us are going to have a dry and sunny day.
00:31Now, this is looking at the infrared satellite image, which picks up on the cold cloud tops.
00:37But if we switch to the visible satellite picture from this morning, you can see actually we started that it
00:43was quite a lot of low cloud that spilt in through the night over northern England down to the Midlands
00:48into parts of Wales.
00:49That's been breaking up over recent hours, but still some of it left into the early afternoon over parts of
00:54the Midlands and southeast England.
00:57May well just lap on shore at times around the coast of northeast England and the eastern Scotland, the frets
01:03and hard just persisting here.
01:06Some of that high cloud still across southwest England, too, and the chance of some thundery showers over the Channel
01:12Isles.
01:13But otherwise, it's dry.
01:14Most places sunny.
01:15That breeze feeding in the cloud, keeping things quite a bit cooler on the east coast.
01:20Temperatures, even where it's sunny, getting into the low 20s at best.
01:24Whereas, head a little further inland, we'll be into the mid to high 20s over northern England, mid 20s for
01:30northern Ireland, western Scotland as well.
01:32And in the south, again, we are likely to see one or two locations up over 30 Celsius.
01:37Still a bit of a breeze blowing along the south coast, but that breeze continuing to ease compared to recent
01:42days.
01:43There is the possibility of a thundery shower drifting up towards southwest England for a time through this evening.
01:50But, again, it's going to be few and far between.
01:53So, if you have to rain, it's not happening, really.
01:56It's dry, again, for the vast majority.
01:58See that breeze feeding in the cloud once more.
02:01So, a great start, again, for Thursday over parts of the Midlands.
02:05Temperatures stepping down 15, 16, staying pretty warm and humid across the southwest.
02:09But, generally, quite a comfortable night with clear skies.
02:12We'll see single figures in rural parts of western Scotland, northwest England.
02:17Lots of sunshine to come here again on Thursday.
02:20Again, we're going to start pretty drab, misty, murky over the Midlands, maybe parts of Wales, northern England too.
02:26But that cloud should break up through the morning, so the afternoon looking largely sunny.
02:31Still, with this feed of the breeze coming in from the north, we could see some of these coasts in
02:35the east, a little bit misty, a little bit murky.
02:38And, again, the possibility of some showers coming up from France and getting into the channel hours.
02:43But the vast majority, again, dry and bright and with plenty of hazy sunshine.
02:48Again, quite a contrast with the temperatures.
02:50If it does stay misty on the east coast, we'll be in the mid-teens.
02:54Generally, in the east, even where it's sunny, we're in the low 20s.
02:57But elsewhere, mid to high 20s.
03:00And, again, maybe a pocket in and around the London area up to 30 degrees Celsius.
03:04Northerly breeze, though, becoming more of a feature of the weather over the next few days.
03:08And that will mean temperatures just dropping off a little bit as we head towards Friday.
03:14But still through Thursday evening, a lot of dry, a lot of fine weather around.
03:17Perhaps, again, the chance of seeing a thundery shower across the southeast this time as we go into Friday.
03:24But it is just a small chance.
03:25Any sign of rain, well, for that, you're going to be watching our longer-range forecast, our 10-day trend.
03:32That will be available on our YouTube channel on Wednesday afternoon.
