00:00The one that jumps out to me is the NL West in that regard.
00:04Dodgers have dropped 7-10.
00:06They salvaged.
00:07They avoided the sweep in Baltimore.
00:09Padres have dropped 7-10.
00:10They did win a series over the weekend.
00:13The Dodgers sit at 79-64.
00:15The Padres at 78-65.
00:17So a game separates those two right now.
00:20So I ask you simply, who wants to win this division right now?
00:26It's funny because we always talk about 162 as a battle of attrition.
00:31It's just whoever can survive the never-ending journey that is a Major League Baseball season
00:38can just usually take it.
00:41Or you generate such a lead in the first half because you're so dominant,
00:44a lot of Tigers, that you can coast a little bit more down the stretch.
00:49It really, I don't know if I can remember in the last few years,
00:52an example of the battle of attrition side of things being highlighted in so many divisions
00:58at the same time.
00:59And I look at the Dodgers and the Padres where I was trying to prepare for this conversation
01:05and say, okay, well, what are some statistics I can look at, some trends I can look at?
01:11It changes every series.
01:13You figure, oh, they'll get right here.
01:15I came prepared with the schedule remaining, but that might not even matter
01:20because the Pirates just beat up on them.
01:23So I don't really know.
01:26I do still want to go through the schedule remaining.
01:28But it really is just going to come down to, like, who's going to get hot here
01:32over the final week or two or who's not going to suck?
01:37I think that might be it, too.
01:38Who can play 500 ball while the other one sucks?
01:40I think that's the big thing to me because I look at the Dodgers getting swept
01:44by the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
01:46And by the way, Don Kelly, I think still over 500 as the Pirate skipper
01:51since taking over as the interim manager.
01:53It's a pretty big deal, actually.
01:55It is a huge deal.
01:55So they're going to remove that interim tag very quickly on Don Kelly
01:59and make him the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
02:00But Dodgers got swept by the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
02:04And then a day after that series concludes, Kyle Freeland goes eight scoreless
02:09and punches out ten Padres in Colorado.
02:12And I'm thinking, what in the wide world of sports is happening right now?
02:15But that's the nature of the beast.
02:17Walk us through the remaining schedules for the Dodgers and the Padres.
02:20And let's talk through that because I'm just trying to figure out
02:23who's going to wheel their way to the finish line sooner.
02:26It's like Ricky, Bobby, and John Gerrard jogging to the finish line
02:32at Talladega and Talladega Heights.
02:34Yes, literally.
02:35Also, I guess Kyle Freeland took out all of the Rafi Devers frustration
02:39and just decided to have an all-time outing.
02:43He started on two days rest because he only threw eight pitches,
02:46and the eighth pitch of the game was taken to mark.
02:48That's an interesting note.
02:50Kyle Freeland on seven days rest.
02:52Maybe that's the fix.
02:55He's just going to shove.
02:56So Dodgers, they have three at the Rockies, as we're recording this,
03:00three at home against the Rockies, three at the Giants,
03:05three at home against the Phillies, four at home against the Giants,
03:10three at the Diamondbacks, and three at the Mariners.
03:13Overall, it's a pretty tough schedule, and I think when you compare it to,
03:17you tell me what you think is more difficult.
03:19Padres have three at home versus the Reds, four at home versus the Rockies,
03:24three at the Mets, three at the White Sox,
03:27three at home against the Brewers, and three at home against the D-backs.
03:31Dodgers is way more difficult there.
03:33I agree.
03:35I agree.
03:35Okay, so naturally, I think you forecast San Diego makes up the game,
03:40and they could very well win this division.
03:42Yeah, but you know that's not how it's going to go, right?
03:44You know that somehow the Padres are going to get swept by the White Sox.
03:49The Dodgers are going to have a great series against the Phillies,
03:52then Flounder against the D-backs.
03:54That's the thing.
03:55I always want to go by schedule,
03:56but if you really are stuck on a tiebreaker here,
03:59I do think that the Padres have a better path ahead,
04:03especially when you've got three against the Rockies
04:06and another three against the White Sox.
04:09Yeah.
04:10Four against the Rockies, excuse me.
04:12Four against Colorado.
04:13Okay.
