00:00We've got Def Leppard tickets to give away at 3.40.
00:03So that means seven minutes from now, about six and a half minutes from now,
00:06Jimmy is just going to fire off a Def Leppard song while we're speaking with Omar.
00:10And then when you hear it, we'll determine what number caller you need to be.
00:14Do you know any Def Leppard songs, Omar Kelly, from the Miami Herald?
00:19Probably, but I can't name you any if I hear it.
00:23Well, you'll hear one in six minutes, and you'll see if you know it.
00:27All right.
00:28Would you ever go see Def Leppard?
00:30They're coming to Hard Rock Live in October.
00:36Probably not.
00:37He would not go see them.
00:39So this is good news for the listeners who are trying to win tickets.
00:42Omar's not going to call them.
00:43You know what I mean?
00:44It's one less person you're competing against to win the tickets.
00:48Are you a concert guy, Omar?
00:50Because I don't get concerts.
00:52He loves concerts.
00:53I love concerts.
00:54Absolutely.
00:55I was at the Rick Ross concert last Friday night, and I just bought tickets to Wale's concert.
01:01He's playing in Fort Lauderdale.
01:03I love concerts.
01:04Omar, I told the story to Crowder and Gelb.
01:08You weren't here.
01:09On Monday or Tuesday, the first time I ever met Omar Kelly, as a senior, junior in high school,
01:16me and my buddies sit next to Omar at the Watch the Throne Tour, Jay-Z, Kanye West concert.
01:21Literally, we show up.
01:23We're all big Dolphins fans.
01:24Who's sitting next to me?
01:26Omar Kelly.
01:27Did you take a picture?
01:30No, but I think you did.
01:33I think I remember taking pictures with you and your buddies or something.
01:37I don't know.
01:38And I think we met each other again and went on a trip to Pittsburgh for some game.
01:44Maybe a playoff game.
01:45Yeah, 2016 in Pittsburgh at the airport.
01:49Me and my same crew.
01:50This was before he was big time, by the way.
01:53You traveled just to see Dolphins games?
01:55Yeah, Dolphins playoff game.
01:562016.
01:57Adam Gase.
01:59You were that guy?
02:01We had a big day.
02:02You didn't know he was that guy?
02:04No.
02:05He has been that guy forever.
02:08You're travel to road game guy?
02:10I was traveled to road game guy.
02:13Wow.
02:14And I've been a day one Omar Kelly fan.
02:17You can't even deny it because we're like, Omar Kelly.
02:20Oh, my God.
02:21That's crazy.
02:22And for the record, that Watch the Throne concert is still the best concert I've ever seen.
02:27Okay.
02:28So how do you feel about going to Watch the Throne and having some little silly teenagers
02:32ask you about the D-linemen?
02:36I'm fine with it, man.
02:37When I was in seventh grade, writing up trades, possible trades that the Dolphins could make,
02:45this was what I was dreaming about.
02:48So I'm good with it.
02:49Yeah.
02:49If he ran into Edwin Pope at a Neil Sadaka concert, he'd have been asking him for his picture as
02:56well.
02:57Omar Kelly is a columnist for the Miami Herald.
03:00Make sure you follow him on social media and make sure you subscribe to the Miami Herald in some iteration
03:06so we can support local journalism.
03:09Anything super interesting from camp this week that you've seen or heard?
03:13There were some people excited that Malik Willis looked a little more in command than he did in OTAs.
03:19Definitely.
03:20The offense, what they did, and I love Crowder's take on this, is they stopped installing things
03:26and basically said, okay, we're going to repeat things and we're going to put our best foot forward
03:31and see who plays with a level of confidence.
03:35And Malik has looked a lot better, I got to tell you.
03:39Quinn Ewers has really looked good.
03:40I just wrote a column in the Miami Herald.
03:43Quinn looks like he should be competing for the starting spot.
03:46He won't be competing for the starting spot.
03:48But it's a good thing when your backup quarterback is basically like he's playing with conviction.
03:53He's playing like, you're going to have to deny me this job.
03:57It's not going to be just, I'm not just going to give it away.
04:02Yeah.
04:03And it's funny because that's my take because I remember at one time when Nick Saban said,
04:08we're calling the same defense all day.
04:09Y'all better do it right.
04:11And it seemed like we stepped up to the plate.
04:14You bring up Quinn.
04:15I was going to ask you, this is my question about Malik Willis.
04:17Because we knew Chad Pennington couldn't throw the ball over 30 yards.
04:21Ooh, that's so cold, Trotter.
04:23That's so cold.
04:24We knew he couldn't spin it like that.
04:26Like, can Malik and Quinn, can they spin that thing?
04:29Can they put it out there?
04:31The mastery of the offense and all that stuff is going to be developed.
04:34But just their arm, their arm talent.
04:37Flat-footed Malik probably up there with Jay Cutler in terms of arm strength.
04:44He threw some passes.
04:46I used to say there was a red zone day, and he just bulleted that thing in.
04:50And it was like the defenders couldn't react to it because it was gone that quickly.
04:56He's got a quick release, too.
04:58He throws a little sidearm, but it doesn't look like it impacts his trajectory.
05:05Quinn, he does not have the same level of arm.
05:08You got to dial it down probably two notches.
05:11But Quinn's decision-making is quick, like extremely quick to the point he throws the ball before receivers make their
05:19break.
05:21Devon H.N. is talking a lot about how he wants to carry more of a load on the offensive
05:28side of the football,
05:29and he wants to be featured even more so than he was a season ago.
05:35It just seems like he's all in, that this isn't a rebuild.
05:38He doesn't want to use the word rebuild.
05:40Who actually says, you know, we rebuild and we're going to do the best that we can?
05:47Absolutely nobody.
05:48Devon is not naive.
05:49He knows that teams are going to have eight, nine men in the box until they prove that they can
05:54have a passing game.
05:58Devon is not my concern.
06:00I don't even need to see Devon in the exhibition season.
06:03Devon is not my concern.
06:04I don't worry about him.
06:05The rest of the team, yeah, pretty concerned.
06:08Pretty concerned.
06:10Every area of the team, every single area of the team probably would be in the bottom ten of every
06:18team in the NFL.
06:19There isn't a unit on here that's just not troublesome.
06:30Of course you have.
06:35Crank it up, Jimmy.
06:43You know what?
06:50Pour some sugar on me, baby.
06:52Pour some sugar on me.
06:56Omar wins the ticket.
07:00What caller number do you want to take?
07:01Eleven for Jalen Brunson?
07:04I mean, come on.
07:06I mean, you've got to give him a prize.
07:07Give him three for Chris Johnson.
07:09Three for Chris Johnson?
07:10I don't want Jimmy answering too many phone calls.
07:13Are we all in agreement?
07:16Or four for the amount of months Chris Greer didn't have a job?
07:22Pick a number.
07:25I said three.
07:27All right.
07:28We'll do it.
07:28Caller three.
07:29305-567-0560.
07:32305-567-0560.
07:35Caller number three gets tickets to see Def Leppard at Hard Rock Live in October.
07:41We will give away one final pair tomorrow.
07:46Omar, you're talking about, you know, worst position groups.
07:49And I had asked this of someone yesterday.
07:52Isn't Jeff Halfley's, I guess, biggest challenge this season going to be keeping the team engaged and hungry when they're
08:01going to be bad?
08:03It's hard to keep a team engaged, right?
08:06Like, I know, you know, you do the, oh, everyone's fighting for their jobs and their paychecks and they can
08:12have the, they can understand the long game.
08:15That's all well and good when you're talking about it in June and July.
08:19You get into September, October, November, and there's no chance of anywhere but the seller.
08:26Like, isn't it, isn't that his biggest task?
08:29I can't sit here and say with absolute certainty they're not going to be respectable.
08:35There are tons of guys who could step up and show you that, hey, I'm a real NFL player like
08:42Zach, Zach Seeler did.
08:44Now, obviously, Zach is probably the only guy you could name from the 2019 Dolphins that actually did something and
08:51became something.
08:52But there's an opportunity.
08:54I mean, opportunities are all over this roster for guys to step up, guys to live up to their draft
09:00stock,
09:00for young players to play, for practice squad players to become starters.
09:05The question is, do you seize that opportunity?
09:08And realistically, if we look at this roster, there are probably about 30 players who, they don't play well,
09:14they're going to be out of the NFL.
09:15That's a hell of a motivator.
09:18So, you know, survival is a great motivator.
09:21I can tell you that.
09:23True.
09:24And talking about them position groups, the one that we are concerned with are the wide receivers.
09:30Can rank them who's doing their thing?
09:33And, like, Malik has to have that, you know, that confidence in the guy.
09:37Is it Tutu?
09:38Is it the young boy, Caleb?
09:39Like, as you see it, who's that guy?
09:41It's Jalen Tolbert.
09:43He's the guy who's getting the most looks from Malik every day.
09:48Then I'd probably go to Malik Washington, who I think is, should be doing more than the slot work right
09:55now,
09:55because I really don't think Tutu has.
09:57Tutu had a good day yesterday, but he's pretty much been invisible all camp.
10:01And then I'd probably go with the rookie, Kevin Coleman Jr.
10:09You could see flashes.
10:12There are times that I always love when the backups start developing chemistry with guys,
10:17and then they start favoring players.
10:19And you could see that Ewers is kind of favoring Kevin Coleman Jr.
10:26He got a little something special to him.
10:28Now, what that could be, I have no idea, but Caleb Douglas has been sidelined by an injury for the
10:37final two practices,
10:38so it's not easy to evaluate him.
10:41And, truthfully speaking, the practice that he did participate in, he had some bad drops.
10:47But the receiver unit, can I tell you, you know, any of them are a number two in the NFL?
10:55Probably not.
10:59That's concerning.
11:01Omar, what year two player...
11:07I'm going to say this.
11:09What year two or year three player makes the biggest jump this year?
11:13There's a lot of them, right?
11:15Like Jordan Phillips, Kenneth Grant.
11:17I'll even let you put Chop Robinson in the conversation,
11:20because half as he wants him to be an every-down outside linebacker.
11:24Like, yeah, all of us do, but can he?
11:27Like, who actually makes that jump that we've been waiting for?
11:32Interestingly enough, I think Chop Robinson has shown up the past couple of days.
11:36I think he's being coached hard.
11:38He plans to put on weight to get up to 265.
11:42I'm not sure if that's going to negate his speed or whatnot.
11:46That's out of my realm of understanding about football.
11:51But I could say he's had a strong OTAs, and I'm pleasantly surprised by what I've seen.
11:58Jordan Phillips and Dante Trader are probably the players, the second-year players,
12:02who've taken the biggest leap.
12:03And today I watched Dante Trader pull Chris Johnson aside and talk to him about technique
12:11and give him some examples.
12:14And that's not something you see from second-year players.
12:16But when you look at the roster, it's like, who else is it going to come from?
12:20It's like there ain't nothing there from a veteran leadership standpoint in the secondary.
12:26So it's good to see Dante Trader step up.
12:28And then Jordan Phillips, that's just – he's got a grown man's body.
12:32He's just so cut, so – he looks like a weightlifter as opposed to a defensive tackle.
12:43And I like some of the ways that guys like Zeke Biggers has redefined his body.
12:49Zeke looks like Tony McDaniel now instead of the biggest of the defensive tackles.
12:56And that's quite impressive for me.
12:58But the guy who's probably going to make the biggest jump, and for all you fantasy guys
13:03out there, Greg Dulcich, the tight end.
13:08The tight end, I would probably say, is the best unit in camp so far.
13:11Now, young quarterbacks always favor tight ends, but those guys are producing.
13:16Greg Dulcich, best hair in Miami right now.
13:20Are we calling him Dulcich de Leche?
13:22Dulcich de Leche?
13:22All right.
13:24Dulcich or Dulcich?
13:26It's Dulcich.
13:27Dulcich.
13:27Dulcich de Leche.
13:29Dulcich de Leche.
13:30Do people call him that or no?
13:31Yeah, we do.
13:33Dulcich de Leche.
13:34Who is we, Solana?
13:36Well, me.
13:37Have you heard that before?
13:38I just said it.
13:39100%.
13:40All right, just check it.
13:41Omar, Greg Dulcich, Dulcich de Leche, best hair in South Florida sports right now.
13:46Would anybody disagree?
13:48It's great hair.
13:49I'm not going to argue about it.
13:51Phenomenal hair.
13:52It's phenomenal.
13:52What about that pitcher?
13:53Isn't there a pitcher on the Marlins that has a really good lid?
13:57Yeah.
13:57His hair is long and wavy.
14:00It's like –
14:01Did I see Kelly Olenek on the bench last night when they were showing the bench shots?
14:05Yeah.
14:06For a little cup of coffee, he had the best hair in South Florida sports.
14:09Guarding center on Eastern Conference champion.
14:13Hey, O, I heard you and Joe talking about this.
14:16Dave Dante Trader.
14:18This damn Dante Trader better show me something this year because I've heard you and Joe talk about it.
14:23You brought him up today.
14:24He got to show out.
14:27He should have played more last year.
14:29You know, we had that – we had that Chargers game where he pretty much cost the team the loss.
14:35But, you know, I don't know why he didn't play more last year.
14:38It wasn't like you were investing in the safeties that did play.
14:41So, I don't know.
14:43And now you're saying that you're going through OTAs.
14:46I'm a cuss people out guy.
14:48I'm a Saban.
14:50You know, I'm a Ron Zook guy.
14:51You know my coaches, Bill Parcells.
14:54You like to be abused.
14:55Yes.
14:55You like to be abused.
15:10Look at what Bill Belichick is struggling with at UNC.
15:15You can't coach these kids like that no more.
15:18You got to be nice.
15:20This is the everybody gets a trophy generation.
15:22Like, these – like, everybody gets a trophy.
15:27Like, and sometimes I wonder, can you even criticize a player in film study nowadays?
15:32You got to – I mean, even Halfley brought it up.
15:37He talked about it today.
15:38A guy gets blown in coverage.
15:41And why are you yelling at him on the sidelines?
15:44Like, talk it through.
15:46Figure out what happened to you.
15:47I bet you you blow a coverage back when – who was Dallas Clark was burning you up?
15:55That was Aiken Adair, O.
15:57You don't watch the play.
15:58Aiken Adair was supposed to pick up because they ran the zone away.
16:02Man, I can't stand your ass.
16:07No, we had a position.
16:10This is just a story.
16:12We had a position in the linebacker room,
16:14and they would call you – like, every game you watch,
16:19you'd be the bee in the pink panties.
16:22The what?
16:23And the female dog in the pink panties.
16:27Okay.
16:27And it was written on the board.
16:29That last game, somebody would get – like, that's how they talk to us,
16:33and that's the coaching that I'm used to.
16:35And nowadays, I'm kind of like, man, these dudes is too nice.
16:38They got to get on these players.
16:40Let's change our Monday feature from Who Got Funky from Funky Buddha
16:45to Who Was the Bitch in the Panties or whatever.
16:51Somebody was designated to be in the panties?
16:54You watch the film, and then we decide who that week was the bitch
16:58in the pink panties.
17:00All right, Jimmy, let's go around the room.
17:02Jimmy, this week, who was the bitch in the pink panties?
17:07Omar Kelly from the Miami Herald.
17:09Thank you, Omar.
17:10I guess.
