00:00Arande is on the Toyota of Hollywood hotline.
00:04Of course, he played receiver for the Dolphins.
00:07Arande II, his son, had a nice game for the Chargers.
00:10Last Sunday, he was a starter, too.
00:12Went from inactive to being a starter.
00:16And he'll be back at it this Sunday.
00:18Arande's with us.
00:19Hello, OG.
00:21Yo, what's happening?
00:23So, what do you make of the Dolphins last night?
00:25I asked this earlier.
00:27Do you watch the game?
00:28Do you watch the win?
00:29And you say, you know what?
00:30They're starting to put it together.
00:31They've looked better week after week after week.
00:34They've looked a little bit better each week.
00:36And so, maybe they're turning a corner.
00:38Or do you say, eh, you know what?
00:40They were beneficiaries of playing a really bad, undisciplined Jets team.
00:48A little bit of both, I think.
00:50You know, obviously, you put the Jets as an 0-3 team as well out front.
00:55But I do think in some areas, they are looking a little better than they did the last two weeks, anyway.
01:08And so, you hope that progression continues.
01:12You know, going to Carolina doesn't hurt.
01:14And so, if you can string two of them together, that would be pretty cool.
01:19But, you know, the Tyreek thing is big.
01:22Obviously, it has to lend to a different type of, I guess, a different type of theory going into the game.
01:33And, OG, shouldn't they lean somebody over there by Garrett Wilson or have somebody who's just one-and-a-half people or something like that?
01:41Because it seems silly to me to leave him one-on-one with those corners.
01:46You know, like, on a touchdown, it definitely wasn't bad, you know, bad coverage.
01:52Just good ball beat good coverage every time.
01:54Not every time, but, you know, eight times out of ten.
01:57If you throw a good ball, it'll be good coverage.
02:00Good catch.
02:00You know, the DB was right there.
02:02I mean, you know, I don't think – they hadn't done that, you know what I mean, the last few times they played him.
02:10They pretty much played a man, you know, pretty much a lot and, you know, figured it out.
02:17Like, I think last year, Ramsey played a man.
02:19I know it was a different corner.
02:21But they hadn't really doubled Garrett Wilson as much.
02:25I mean, they should have doubled the line to stop the run.
02:30You know.
02:31Yeah.
02:32Garrett Wilson, you know, he's a good player.
02:37He makes plays.
02:38It's just – you know, he didn't do anything until late, really.
02:41I mean, the first half, he was – you know, he didn't cause a dent in the defense.
02:46It's just that second half, he got a little loose.
02:48But he got loose because now you're trying to stop the 80 yards that, you know, Hall and Fields get.
02:55And, you know what I'm saying, so you got to try to stop that.
02:58So, I mean, you know, it's – you know how it is.
03:00It's a double-edged sword.
03:01But, you know, offensively, I think we're finding some things out.
03:06But now, you know, Tyreek is down.
03:08And, you know, this still lends to my only a plan A situation.
03:14Now that Tyreek Hill is out, you can't just say, now we're going to put Malik Washington in that spot.
03:21Like, you know what I'm saying?
03:22You know, now you're trying to do the same things.
03:26It's just not going to work out the same.
03:28You know what I mean?
03:28Just like the speed's not the same.
03:31You know, he's coming out of his break, not the same.
03:34And, you know, when Tua looks to throw to him, you know, he's been throwing to Tyreek for three, four years.
03:40Now you're going to look to throw to Malik and you're going to throw the ball and he a step too slow.
03:44He didn't read it as you did.
03:46But, you know, it's just, you know, unfortunately a recipe for disaster.
03:54What do you think of the overall game plan, though, offensively, OG?
03:57I think Tyreek goes down.
03:59Devon Achan is by far your best player and he played well yesterday.
04:03But even the broadcast was highlighting they had Tua on the move a lot more yesterday.
04:09And the play design, it seemed more conducive to putting Tua in the right spots to make plays.
04:17And I know his numbers weren't impressive yesterday.
04:20But what do you think of just the overall game plan of having Tua kind of on those bootlegs a little bit more,
04:26kind of rolling out a little bit more, trying to get him in better positions to make plays?
04:32I don't like it.
04:33I don't like it.
04:34I don't like it one bit.
04:35But, no, I just think, you know, obviously, you know, when you roll him out,
04:40Len's more, you know, chances for him to get, you know, hit without anybody blocking.
04:45You know, if he was a, you know, runner, like you roll out Justin Fields
04:49and he got the option to throw it out, he can run for 20 yards.
04:52You know what I mean?
04:53But you rolling Tua out, you know, I don't know.
04:56If the defensive end doesn't bite on the run, he's out there one-on-one with Tua.
05:01And if Tua does one of the fakes and holds the ball, you know, just, I mean,
05:06every once in a while you have to do it.
05:07Obviously, you know, Darren Waller came and was the Darren Waller from, you know,
05:13three years ago.
05:14And, you know, how long that lasts, we hope, a long time.
05:17But I just, you know, I just worry about the load being put on A-10 now that, you know,
05:24because we already throw, you know, seven bubbles, seven flat passes to him already.
05:30Now you, you know, now you're going to throw 11, you know what I mean?
05:35Just a lot, you know, because you key on that.
05:38Some wide receiver doesn't get the block and he gets banged out.
05:42Now, you know, he got to take a break for like two games.
05:45Then we, you know, just tough, just tough.
05:48I just, you know, hope we can at least, you know, Jimmy rig it to where we can do a little bit for everybody.
05:57You know, you know, in your mind, you just be like, all right, now that Tyreek Zawaddle gets a lion's share of the ball.
06:03But, I mean, he just hadn't, you know what I mean?
06:06So, you know, rolling him out was good for the Jets.
06:13You know, if you got somebody with better defensive ends or who's going to blitz more,
06:17you know, I'm not sure that's the best thing to do.
06:19I don't know if you know, but Tua probably is not the fastest quarterback in the league.
06:25And OG, you brought it.
06:27He did win the bet again for me last night.
06:30Yes, sir, he did.
06:31Rushing over, let's go.
06:33Rushing over.
06:36I'm betting that until 18 games straight.
06:40I am riding that as long as they let me.
06:43They put 0.5 up them.
06:46I'm telling you, like, what's the bet that would prevent you from making it?
06:51Because, obviously, the sportsbooks are going to catch up to 0.5 or 1.5.
06:56If you do 1.5, I'm taking 1.5.
06:59As long as you do anything over 5, then I'm not doing over 5.
07:04If he's rushing over, if Tua's rushing over in Carolina Sunday is 3.5 yards,
07:11you're still going to ride the over?
07:12I'm taking it.
07:13Yeah, I'm still taking it.
07:14I'm still taking the over.
07:16There's got to be, like, 7.
07:18Then I'll be like, no, I ain't taking 7.
07:20But anything under that, I'm taking it.
07:23Because, I mean, he has to run.
07:24He has to.
07:25Just, you know, no other way around it.
07:28But, OG, you brought up, you talked about Tyreek's injury,
07:30and you bring up Malik Washington being that guy.
07:32Why can't Waller be that guy?
07:33Would a big tight end like that not fit in this system?
07:38Yeah, I don't think, you know, not for those amount of yards.
07:43You know what I mean?
07:44He fits in for exactly what he did.
07:46You know, that would be John O. Smith's reduction right there, you know?
07:51You know, John O. Smith probably was a little bit more agile as far as,
07:55you know, getting the shovel pass and maybe running a jet sweep
07:59for, like, three yards, as he's doing now.
08:02But, I think, you know, Waller did what he was supposed to do.
08:05You add – now, you add Tyreek's, you know, 80, 90 yards receiving,
08:11and you add Waller's 65 yards, and either one of them have a touchdown,
08:16you know, you're good.
08:17But now you're trying to make Waller get to 80 yards every game.
08:22Yeah, that's, you know – because him being down at a tight end
08:27is easier to double.
08:28You know what I mean?
08:29You double him, right?
08:30And now you're back to throwing to Malik Washington.
08:33You know what I mean?
08:34Like – and they run around in the same areas.
08:37Malik Washington's not going to be outside.
08:39He's going to be a slot guy.
08:40He's going to do your motions, you know, and do your little orbit motions,
08:45maybe get the ball in the flat, you know.
08:48So, you can't really depend on, you know, Waller doing much more than he did.
08:54But, you know, you're going to try to expand it, obviously, but two touchdowns?
08:58Like, that's – I mean, how much more you want him to give you?
09:02You know, that was a good game.
09:06I'm just – I'm looking it up right now.
09:07Just speaking of the two rushing overs, did you ever have a rushing yard in your NFL career?
09:13Did they ever run a reverse?
09:14I don't think so.
09:15I don't think so.
09:16I think so.
09:17I got one bubble maybe and lost like three yards.
09:21Because Chan, Chan, Chan, Chan called it at a dumb time.
09:25You know what I mean?
09:26Come on, Chan.
09:27Call him.
09:28Wait, rushing yards.
09:29Here we go.
09:30You have a total for your career.
09:35You have zero rushing yards.
09:37Yeah.
09:37Yeah.
09:38But that – I mean, that's not surprising, though, right?
09:40If I gave you the over-under, Arande, total rushing yards for his career,
09:44you're over-under at a half, you'd have bet the under, yeah?
09:47Under for sure.
09:48I don't know why they threw him a bubble screen.
09:53That's what I'm saying.
09:53I don't know why they did that either.
09:55Like, you know what I mean?
09:56Like, what I'm going to do?
09:58Take three people and take it 65?
10:00Probably not.
10:02I'm going to pitch it.
10:03I'm going to pitch it to somebody.
10:04Come on, Lamar.
10:05I'm going to pitch it to you about 40 yards down the field.
10:07Come on, man.
10:08Was that – that was a – that was a written-up play that they ran for you?
10:16Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:18Like, you know what I'm saying?
10:19Like, you know, take two steps forward to come back.
10:20When they called that, did you ask – when they called that, did you say it again?
10:25You know, I was pretty excited about it.
10:28It was like on the 11-yard line.
10:30You know, in your mind, you're like, it's going to work perfect.
10:33Like, the left tackle, you know, is going to run out here and block the defensive back
10:39and the wide receiver is going to go crack down on the safety.
10:44I'm going to catch it and, you know, elevate the door is going to open
10:47and I'm going to run through for the touchdown.
10:49It just didn't work that way.
10:54You just remember how it worked?
10:57I'm guessing you turned around and there was somebody right in your face.
11:01Yeah, man.
11:02You know, you take the two steps forward and then you come back.
11:05They call it a J-move and you're supposed to get the ball
11:07and all that's supposed to happen, left hand, kick out the DB that's following me.
11:12OJ cracks down on the safety and I just run through the middle.
11:16My God.
11:18It didn't happen.
11:19It didn't happen.
11:19It didn't happen that way.
11:20It happened as I lost three yards.
11:23The DB, when I took the two steps out, was trailing me so tight,
11:28I had tackled for loss.
11:32Like, he didn't respect my going deep.
11:35You know what I'm saying?
11:36Like, if Tyreek takes two steps up, then the DB backs up like five yards.
11:41Like, I took the two steps up.
11:42He came forward.
11:44Like, oh.
11:44OJ, when they installed that on Wednesday, you thought you was going to get a touchdown?
11:51Oh, man.
11:52I thought I was going to get a touchdown.
11:53Easy, easy, easy.
11:55I was already doing the OG in my mind in the end zone.
11:58Without a doubt.
11:59Because it worked like a charm in practice.
12:01I'm going to tell some shirts on this one.
12:03Right.
12:04Hey, man, listen.
12:05It worked like a charm in practice.
12:06The DB seven yards off.
12:08You know what I mean?
12:09I'm going to take the step.
12:10He's going to back up.
12:11By the time he comes, you know what I'm saying?
12:14Mark is already out there.
12:15He kicks him out of bounds.
12:17OJ cracked down on the safety and the gap.
12:20Boom, I'm going to catch the ball.
12:21And I may have one man to beat, but we on 11.
12:24You know what I'm saying?
12:25That free safety come up.
12:27I'm fixing to take off.
12:28I'm going to take off from the five.
12:30I'm already diving for the pylon.
12:32I can do it.
12:37You know, the reason why, you know, like, it sounded like a good play then,
12:42but everybody, you know, once we get in the red zone,
12:45everybody was pressing for the fade.
12:48You know, everybody would press me.
12:49And it'd be cool because then I'd run the fade.
12:52But press on a bubble screen, it's like no bueno.
12:56Like, that's not smart.
12:58I just imagine you running the route and looking and seeing the guy coming forward
13:03and thinking to yourself, no, run backward.
13:06Run backward.
13:07Did you see me going forward?
13:09Yeah.
13:10Listen, I take the two steps up and he's coming.
13:13I'm like, shoo, shoo, shoo.
13:15Like, go.
13:16Go back.
13:17Go back.
13:17Go back.
13:17Go back.
13:18No, not now.
13:20Not now.
13:21Shoo, shoo.
13:21Like, he'll fly or something.
13:23Like, go.
13:23You're going to ruin this whole thing.
13:25Shoo.
13:25Yeah, you're going to ruin it by one play.
13:33You're going to ruin it by one play.
13:35One chance.
13:36I was going to say, did you even bother watching it back on the tablet on the bench
13:39to see what went wrong?
13:41But I don't think they had tablets back then.
13:43Tablet?
13:43Oh, no.
13:45Tablet?
13:45Are you kidding me?
13:48Tablets.
13:48You mean the IBM one, the blue ones with the pen, they smash all the time?
13:53Yeah, we had those.
13:54Yeah.
13:56That's funny.
13:57I think we got back Monday.
14:03They were like, that play is in the trash.
14:06We're not running that play anymore.
14:08I'm like, duh, you think?
14:10Just throw me the fade, bro.
14:12Like, you know, I did.
14:14Have you looked at how big I am and how good my hands are?
14:17Throw me the fade.
14:18Yeah, I caught the ball, which made it a three-yard loss.
14:22I should have missed the ball.
14:23Like, who are you throwing that to?
14:24You're not throwing that to me.
14:26Take a three-yard loss on my stats.
14:28Oh, my God.
14:29That is funny, man.
14:30Someone chats in, OG's got to be in the Mount Rushmore of storytellers.
14:34That is a great story, man.
14:37I can just feel it running through your head.
14:41Yeah, I remember.
14:42You know, because it has to.
14:44Like, you know, what happens if I got to do this?
14:48I got to do that.
14:48But I got to get tackled right away.
14:50Like, I didn't even know what if.
14:53Three-yard loss.
14:55Kick the field goal.
14:56You had more thoughts about how you're going to celebrate it than actually thinking someone's
15:02going to be right up in your grill.
15:04That was the last thing in my mind.
15:07Like, I'm looking at the free safety.
15:09He on the goal line, right?
15:11And so, I'm like, when I get the ball, I'll probably be at, like, the nine.
15:15And so, it's going to be me and him to the pylon.
15:18And I'm going to beat him to the pylon.
15:19That ain't even a question.
15:21Because I'm taking off from the side.
15:22I got to only hit the pylon with the ball.
15:24I got it.
15:25I totally got it.
15:27And I'm like, I'm going to catch it.
15:29Boom.
15:30Just like I practiced.
15:31Two steps.
15:31Two hard steps forward.
15:33Come back around.
15:34Mark, who's coming out from the tackle spot.
15:37He's going to kick the DB.
15:38I'm going to catch it.
15:38And I'm going to go, you know, back toward the sideline.
15:41Back out.
15:41Like, he got a long way to run.
15:43And I'm going to spike it up.
15:45I'm going to do the OG.
15:45Like, it's already done in my mind.
15:49Already done.
15:52Him following me, like, never even crossed my mind.
15:59Him doing his job never even crossed my mind.
16:03You're supposed to be like Ben Kelly in practice.
16:13Ben Kelly took two steps back.
16:17Like, what are you doing?
16:19Was you not at practice, dude?
16:20Was you not at practice?
16:22I ran this 11 times in practice.
16:24What the hell are you doing right here?
16:27Right.
16:28Right.
16:29You know, the most that can happen is the dude pushed OG.
16:33And I got to bounce one time and then run in.
16:35You know what I'm saying?
16:36Okay.
16:37Not him tackling me right away.
16:39That never even crossed my mind.
16:41Oh, my God.
16:42That is funny.
16:43All right.
16:43We got to go.
16:44We're up against a break.
16:44See you, OG.
16:46All right, man.
16:46See you.
16:47Yeah.
