00:37China commemorated Wednesday the 80th anniversary of the nation's victory over Japanese aggression and the end of World War II.
00:51Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernanda from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:59The government of Venezuela accused the head of the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio of using artificial intelligence in a video presented as evidence of alleged narco-trafficking activities from Venezuela.
01:11The Venezuelan Minister of Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, used his Telegram channel to make the denounce, explaining that Marco Rubio offered U.S. President Donald Trump a video generated by artificial intelligence as supposed evidenced by the attack of the U.S. military on what would be a ship with trucks coming from Venezuela.
01:31To back up his claim, he attached a technical analysis of the video in question, in which the artificial intelligence platform Gemini conjectured that it is very likely that the video was generated by an artificial intelligence system.
01:44Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro continues to denounce the false narrative behind imperialism and aggressions against the Venezuelan people.
01:53The President denounced the false narrative of U.S. authorities that accuses the Venezuelan government of being implicated in truck trafficking operations, using it as an excuse to dispatch of 80 U.S. military ships equipped with 1,200 missiles and a nuclear submarine, heading for the Venezuelan coast.
02:10The Venezuelan President declared that Washington is seeking to take over the wealth and natural resources of Venezuela, in addition to attempting to end the revolutionary project.
02:20In turn, the President warned the U.S. counterpart Donald Trump about the intention of Secretary of State Marco Rubio to stain with blood the U.S. administration.
02:30tornadoes,derialism attacks us.
02:36It attacks us, for two reasons, one is obvious they send 8 warships, they Aim 1,200 missiles at our heads, They send a nuclear submarine,요ength neuen milit erreichtines are made,
02:55When did they send it? To somewhere on the planet? And they send it because they invent a story, a tale, that no one believes. The youth of the United States does not believe the lies of the man in charge of the White House, Marco Rubio, because the one in charge of the White House is Marco Rubio, the Miami Mafia, who wants to cover President Donald Trump's hands in blood.
03:24I say to the Trump family, they want to stain the Trump name with blood, with blood, and what I am saying, I have full knowledge of, and look, we have quite a lot of knowledge from international intelligence.
03:38President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced that the aggressions of U.S. imperialism and seek to seize the wealth and natural resources of the Venezuelan people.
03:48But they are really coming. Do you know why they are coming?
03:51For Venezuelan oil, they want it for free for the gas.
03:58We have the main oil reserve in Venezuela. And that oil does not belong to Maduro, and even less to the Americans. It belongs to you, that oil belongs to you.
04:07To these boys and girls. That first oil reserve in the world belongs to the people of Venezuela. We have the fourth largest gas reserves in the world. And that gas belongs to Venezuela.
04:20We have one of the first gold reserves and for you to count the natural riches come from the fertile land. We still have what they call an agricultural frontier which are lands to be cultivated.
04:3130 million hectares that are going to turn us into an agricultural power. We are already on our way to that. We are already producing 100 percent of the food in Venezuela. Now we are going to produce to become great exporters of food.
04:48Meanwhile, the Mexican government rejected Tuesday the U.S. military intervention to combat drug trafficking.
04:55During her daily morning press conference, Mexican president Cláida Sheinbaum confirmed that an intervention to fight organized crime was unnecessary and that such a fight required binational agreements on research and cooperation without damaging sovereignty.
05:10The president reiterated that her government will never allow any military intervention by the U.S. government and said each country must take responsibility to fight crime within its own territory.
05:21And now we have a short break coming up. But first remember you can join us on TikTok at Delos or English where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
05:37Welcome back to From the South. In the United States, President Donald Trump confirmed the deployment of troops in Chicago as part of his offensive against the migrant community residing in the country.
05:58According to the executive order, the Chicago Police Department will be forbidden from assisting federal authorities in civil immigration enforcement, an action described by Chicago authorities as an attempt to intimidate immigrant communities and silence dissent.
06:13In response to the Trump administration's threats, diverse communities march in rejection of the U.S. government's policies and to demand a more just future for migrants.
06:23The Trump administration is expected to continue this anti-immigrant offensive in other cities governed by Democrats.
06:30A U.S. federal court ruled Tuesday that the deployment of army forces to suppress Los Angeles demonstrations violated federal law.
06:38According to the court ruling, the government cannot use the National Guard, Marines or any military troops in the country to inform civilian law.
06:47After a three-day hearing based on a lawsuit filed by the governor of California last June, the court said President Donald Trump violated the so-called Post-Comitatus Act when he sent troops to suppress demonstrations.
07:00The protests were sparked in rejection of immigration and customs control operations against the migrant population in the country.
07:09In Brazil, the trial against far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro has entered its final stages.
07:15Our correspondent, Brian Mir, has more.
07:18The Supreme Court has begun its final deliberations on the Attorney General's indictments of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven of his cronies,
07:27including two army generals, the former commander of the Navy and his former intelligence chief,
07:33for plotting to enact a military coup to keep him in power after he lost the 2022 presidential elections.
07:40Failing to criminally punish this type of coup attempt, as history here and abroad demonstrates,
07:47invites a resurgence of authoritarianism, putting our entire model of civilized society at risk.
07:55After Justice Alexandre de Moraes read the minutes of the last session
07:59and Attorney General Paulo Goné summarized his argument for the prosecution,
08:04the lawyers for the defendants were granted an hour each to summarize their arguments.
08:09The first to speak was the defense team for Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Jair Bolsonaro's former aide-de-camp,
08:16who has struck a plea bargain deal in exchange for testifying against his former boss.
08:21The process was extremely ethical and professional.
08:24Investigators never spoke to Mauro Cid without his defense lawyer present
08:29and always ensured he had access to his legal team.
08:32If this isn't a sign of respect for due process, I was misinformed in law school.
08:41Although many in the press and the general public view the trial as a sign that Brazil's democratic institutions are working,
08:47others worry about danger lurking below the surface.
08:50It is generally believed that Bolsonaro will be convicted and will face a sentence of between 30 and 40 years.
08:57But there is a lot of movement in the world of politics.
08:59The big news today is that two political parties, the PP and Union Brazil,
09:04have decided not only to leave Lula's governing coalition,
09:07but to support the opposition's drive for amnesty for ex-president Bolsonaro.
09:12In other words, the political impasse in Brazil is expected to continue for the next few months.
09:17The Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling on September 12th.
09:22Brian, tell us Sir, Recife.
09:25In Nicaragua, President Daniel Ortega condemned the threats and aggressions imposed by the United States
09:31against Venezuela and its constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro.
09:35The Nicaraguan government celebrated with a ceremony the 46th anniversary of the foundation of the Nicaraguan army.
09:41During the event, co-president Ortega sentenced that the military deployment of the United States in Latin America and the Caribbean
09:48represents a threat to the peace and stability of the region.
09:51Likewise, the commander retaliated the solidarity of the Nicaraguan state towards Venezuela
09:56in the midst of these recent imperial threats,
09:59while he emphasized that the people's unity in rejecting threats to the region's sovereignty.
10:04In Argentina, the government confirmed to state that the country's treasury will intervene in the foreign army.
10:10currency market to halt the rise of the dollar.
10:14According to the nation's secretary of finance, Pablo Quirno,
10:17the shift in the exchange rate policy will allow the government to sell dollars in order to contribute to its liquidity.
10:23The government's economic team said the measure seeks to have tammed the dollar,
10:28without price spikes and to try to contain the economic crisis before the elections.
10:33The decision breaks the government's agreement with the International Monetary Fund,
10:37which only allowed the central bank to buy or sell dollars if exchange rates reach limits that have not yet been reached.
10:45Meanwhile, Argentina's chamber of deputies continued the debate over the so-called crypto-scam scandals
10:52and the bribe accusations against government officials.
10:55The opposition deputies are pushing to summon the secretary of the presidency and sister of the head of state,
11:01Karina Milei, to explain the alleged payment of prides in contracts with laboratories of the National Disability Agency, Andes.
11:10The investigative commission seeks to investigate the political responsibility of the president in promoting the Libra cryptocurrency,
11:17which led to what was considered the mega-scam.
11:21The opposition deputies are also trying to summon the Ministry of Health, Mario Lugones,
11:26to clarify the case that includes persecution and censorship of the press.

12:35The parade was preceded by a speech delivered by President Xi, in which he reaffirmed his country's firm stance to never bow to intimidation.
12:43The President also called for peace, harmony and equal treatment among nations, and reiterated his commitment to socialism.
12:50History carries the laxia of the past and inspires the future.
13:07On a new journey in a new era, the Chinese people of all ethnic groups should, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China,
13:20follow Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong thoughts, Deng Xiaoping theory, the theory of three represents, and the scientific outlook and development,
13:37change, and fully implement the thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era.
13:47We should stay firmly on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and carry forward the great spirit of the war of resistance.
13:56We should press the head with enterprise and resolve, and advance the immunity the cause of building China into a great country on all fronts,
14:06and realizing great national rejuvenation through China's modernization.
14:26In India, at least 29 people have died in 12 districts of the northwestern Indian state of Punjab in the last month,
14:35and thousands more have been forced from their homes amid floods caused by torrential monsoon rains.
14:41Punjab Revenue Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister S. Harpteen Singh Mundayin confirmed in an official statement on Monday
14:49that more than 256,000 people have been affected, with damage in 1,444 villages spread over 12 districts, and that 29 deaths have been recorded.
15:02The Indian Meteorological Department maintains the red alert in Punjab and orange in the territory of Delhi for Tuesday,
15:10while in the coming days the forecast drops to yellow level, which warns of heavy rains but less risk.
15:16Meanwhile in Afghanistan, rescue teams continue to search for survivals of the massive 6.0-branded earthquake that hit several provinces in the region.
15:26According to Afghan authorities reports, the incident killed more than 1,400 people and injured more than 3,000,
15:34racing villages and trapping residents under the rubble of houses.
15:39The rock terrain made rescue and relief work difficult, forcing rescuers to use helicopters to launch dozens of commandos
15:45to evacuate the injured, with this as a third major earthquake to hit the country since 2021,
15:51a tragedy compounded by cuts in aid funding, economic problems and millions of people forcibly returned from Iran and Pakistan.
15:59Meanwhile, the World Meteorological Organization experts foresee above-average temperatures in most of the world,
16:05although they foresee the reappearance of the La Niña weather phenomenon, starting in September.
16:12Since March 2025, neutral conditions persist that do not correspond to an El Niño or La Niña episode,
16:19highlighting sea surface temperatures close to an average over the Equality Pacific as a whole.
16:23However, in the coming months, possibly from September 2025 onwards, these conditions may gradually evolve to compatible with a La Niña episode.
16:34According to experts, from September to November period, the probability that sea surface temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific
16:42will drop to values consisted with La Niña episode is 55%.
16:46Students from the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana developed the Escaramojo project.
17:06The initiative was conceived to give voice to the experiences of school children.
17:11In the Cuban way, we'll tell you more about this community project. Let's see.
17:14What happens when journalism meets popular education?
17:21The Escaramojo project was born from this question.
17:24When a journalism student from Havana met the teenagers of the Integral Education Schools, or EFIs,
17:30many of them with difficult educational backgrounds.
17:33It was then that Rodolfo thought to bring both realities together,
17:37to design communication workshops so that these young people could give voice to their experiences,
17:42and in that improved their educational journey.
17:46They proposed to make a documentary about their life stories.
17:49So it was very interesting the way in which they recounted why they came to these schools,
17:54what families they came from, the characteristics of their neighborhoods,
17:58and at the same time they reflected on this.
18:00And the experience was very enriching for them and for us.
18:02Since then, Escaramojo has grown and expanded throughout the island.
18:09In the last 15 years, its workshops have produced audiovisuals, documentaries, television series, and magazines.
18:16These spaces are run by university students who work together to create a journalism that is a tool for social transformation.
18:23I'm doing what I can and what I have to do, from the place where I have the most to give.
18:29Che, say that revolutionaries have to be where the revolution needs them.
18:33And I consider that where I can give my best, where I can give my best effort until my last breath.
18:38That is where I am right now, and that is what I am doing, and I spare no effort.
18:42I believe we have been so lucky, that the people who come to the Escaramojo project come with a sensitivity, with a professional preparation, so eager to do.
18:53And with a commitment to Cuba, which is very good.
18:55In these times of crisis, of economic crisis, but also of crisis in values, in which some young people are shaping their future outside of Cuba.
19:03That there is a group of young people committed to help, to contribute to the improvement of the country, I think that is very valuable.
19:09In each workshop, Escaramojo bets on bringing together young people through communication, providing them with tools to express themselves, discuss common problems, and find a way to think of solutions together.
19:24This was the case of their last big project, the elaboration of a complete edition of the Cuban youth magazine, Pionero.
19:31I feel proud of myself, proud of all the goals I have been able to achieve.
19:36I was so pleased to see that my story was in Pionero magazine, one of the most famous magazines in the entire country. That's so nice.
19:49Just like Silvia Rodriguez states in the song that gives the project its name, these youngsters are convinced that knowledge cannot be a luxury, and that this demands everyone's commitment.
20:02And so, in the creation of a magazine, a podcast, or a documentary, different generations come together for a journalism that includes the voices of the future.
20:10Of course, the projects help teenagers express how they feel, find their own place, find themselves, they help them understand that they have a place in this world, that they should be heard, and it's so important that this reaches other parts of the world.
20:28To commit oneself, that is the word, to commit to this situation. They are the future, they are the present, and I think that empowering them and giving them all the possible tools is the best thing we can do.
20:41Like this, we have come to the end of this news brief. You can find this and many other stories on our website at TelesurEnglish.net, and join us on social media, Facebook, X, Instagram, Telegram, and TikTok.
