00:00In Peru, violent clashes erupted near the Congress headquarters in Lima

00:03as thousands of protesters rallied against the newly installed government of President José Heri.

00:10The demonstration, organized less than a week after Heri's inauguration,

00:14quickly escalated as protesters attempted to dismantle protective barriers surrounding the legislatures building.

00:21The unrest underscores the deep public discontent with Peru's political establishment

00:26as protesters, many of them from youth and union groups,

00:29accused Congress of shielding jury from accountability for sexual assault allegations stemming from an incident in January 2025.

00:40He is also being investigated for disobeying a court order to undergo psychological treatment,

00:46unleash corruption related to budget manipulation and unexplained accumulation of wealth.
