00:00Colombian President Gustavo Pedro held a meeting of the Council of Ministers and denounced the
00:12recent US attacks on Colombia's anti-drug trafficking policies, calling for unity to
00:18defend the region. Peruvian police forces repressed a Monday protest of Generation C
00:28in March, in rejection of President Dina Baluarte's government, the pension system,
00:33corruption, organized crime and the violence that has unleashed in the country.
00:43In Palestine, the escalate of Israeli strikes on Gaza Strip have continued,
00:48killing at least 39 people in the last 24 hours.
00:51Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernandez from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:03We begin with the news. Colombian President Gustavo Pedro denounced attacks against his policies to
01:08combat drug trafficking, despite the administration's previous efforts to combat this courage. At a
01:15Cabinet meeting, President Gustavo Pedro reiterated his condemnation of Colombia's desertification in
01:21the fight against drug trafficking and highlighted his country's efforts. He warned that Trump's
01:27administration is threatening Latin America and the Caribbean to divert attention from the US
01:32public health crisis due to high fentanyl consumption. The Colombian President also questioned the United
01:39Nations inaction in the face of the systematic violation of the international law by the United States and its
01:45allies. The United Nations does not have to remain in New York, the United Nations Security Council, of which we are almost members and we will preside. And you don't have a visa, nor do I have a visa, then what? Then it is stupidity on the part of the United States government. It is stupidity on the part of the United States government. It is stupidity on the part of the United States government. It is stupidity on the part of the United States.
02:15It is breaking international law. It is breaking international law. And it has no right to make away the visa of anyone who goes to speak to the United Nations or about issues that are under discussion at the United Nations. That is world law. That is how the United Nations were forced. If Trump forgets that or isn't told or doesn't read about it, then someone should read it to him.
02:45He also filed a lawsuit in the United States in the United States, which is breaking international law at the United Nations. The United Nations cannot bow down to a government that is complicit in genocide.
03:01In other news, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commented on the weekly international events, highlighting that the Caribbean has united in support of Venezuela at the UN against the U.S. military threats.
03:16During his weekly TV show, the head of state underscored that a new pluripolar world is being born, and is shown in the addresses given by world leaders at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly that concluded this Monday.
03:31He also praised the speech given by Colombian president Gustavo Petro, who, according to him, said what the world needed to hear, in his denunciation of the imperialist powers that threaten the future of the planet.
03:51Ten minutes from the center of Caracas. One finds there.
03:58During his weekly TV program with Maduro Plus, the Venezuelan president referred to Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations General Assembly, and said it was as if Hitler had gone to the UN to speak about his plans of extermination.
04:13He simply brought out his war plan, his plan of extermination against the Palestinians, against the Syrians, against the Lebanese, against the Iraqis, against the Jordanians, against the Iranians, against the whole world.
04:28A war plan against the whole world.
04:30It was as if Hitler had sat down to speak at the United Nations without his mustache.
04:35The only thing missing was his mustache, to be Hitler, to say that he was going to exterminate all those he had not yet exterminated.
04:43In another part of the program, the Venezuelan president highlighted the lack of public investment in the United States, in such important fields as education, health and housing, and said that any state that does not make a minimum investment in those important issues begin to impoverish itself.
05:00In the United States, there is no program to assist the people, no programs to develop public education, public health, public housing.
05:13There is no investment, and it has been proven that if a society, if a state does not make a minimum investment in education, health, housing, and the right to food, that society simply begins to impoverish itself to an increasing degree.
05:29Venezuelan president of the United States, in the United States.
05:30Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro also praised the speech of Colombian president Gustavo Petro at the United Nations, and qualified it as words of encouragement of foreign new humanity.
05:41On this occasion, there was undoubtedly a memorable speech by President Petro, and with all the respect I have for Colombia, for its foreign policy, for President Gustavo Petro, whom I have gotten to know quite well through long conversations,
06:08I truly express my admiration for his courage, for his strength.
06:15It is the strength of Nariño, of Bolivar, of Recaute, whom we saw here among us.
06:24It is the strength of Petro.
06:26He truly said what humanity wants to hear.
06:29He truly spoke words of encouragement for a new humanity.
06:35Also in Venezuela, the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace met with the Diplomatic Corps Monday, and affirmed its commitment to peace and against the U.S. violence rhetoric and actions against the Bolivarian nation.
06:50During the meeting, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, and the nation's executive vice president, Alexis Rodríguez, emphasized that almost all sectors of the Venezuelan society agreed on the need to maintain peace in the country and to face military aggression.
07:06They also insisted on the need to defend the Caribbean as a zone of peace, free of hostile actions, and warned about the worldwide expansion of fascism.
07:15The consul highlighted the effectiveness of the national drills held across the country, where Venezuelans expressed their commitment to defending their nation's sovereignty.
07:28From their importance, the main importance, that all of us have to defend this peace.
07:41We have to defend it with action, with unity.
07:44Defend it as if we were defended, that is the real thing, the entrance, the threshold of our house,
07:55our sacred territory, our sacred sky, our sacred rivers and seas.
08:07Not only to defend the right of the boys and Venezuelan girls to peace and future, also defend and insist strongly,
08:18and that's why we really appreciate the presence of diplomatics, to the Caribbean, to the Caribbean Sea, our sea.
08:30To defend it as a peace zone, as a free zone of military actions.
08:41And now we have a short break coming up.
08:45But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telo Sur English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:52We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:54Welcome back to From the South.
09:07In Peru, police forces repressed protests by journalists and young citizens during coverage of the Generation C march
09:15against the government of Dino Boluarte and the Congress, the set pension system, corruption, organized crime, and the violence that has unleashed in the country.
09:25The protests against the government of President Dino Boluarte and the Congress were met with a violent response from the state,
09:32which targeted the independent press in particular.
09:35The National Association of Journalists reported eight serious incidents, six of which were direct physical assaults
09:43and two were acts of harassment and intimidation against journalists.
09:47The systematic attacks are part of a pattern of repression and censorship by the Boluarte government,
09:53which seeks to silence critical voices and hide the realities of social protest.
09:58Moving on to Ecuador, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, Conalle, announced one day the extension of its nationwide strike against the neoliberal and repressive policies of Daniel Novoa's government.
10:19During a press conference in Quito, Conalle's President Marilo Vargas said that dialogue with the government was not an option at this moment.
10:28and announced a list of ten demands that the government must meet.
10:32Vargas also demanded an investigation by international organizations on the assassination of Indigenous community member Efraín Fuerres,
10:41and called for the immediate end of the massacre against the Indigenous peoples.
10:46The social leader reiterated that peoples in resistance are not terrorists, but theirs is a historic struggle for life, justice and dignity.
10:57In other news, Honduran President Xiomara Castro was presented Monday with the Trailblazers in Women's Political Leadership Award,
11:11in recognition of her outstanding career and commitment to gender equality in politics.
11:16The award was presented during the summit of the international organization Women's Political Political Leaders, WPL, held in the city of Pogorica, Montenegro.
11:26During the ceremony, WPL President Silvana Kosh Merín highlighted Castro's role in reducing poverty and improving the quality of life of Hondurans, establishing herself as an example of female political leadership in Latin America.
11:42The Trailblazers in Women's Political Leadership Award recognizes women who have made a significant difference in international politics, inspiring new generations and promoting women's active participation in political decision-making.
11:57Meanwhile, in Uruguay, President Yaman Du Orsi convened urgently his Security Cabinet to address the attack perpetrated against acting persecutor general Monica Ferrero.
12:14According to authorities, the attack was not on a person but an attempt to stake an institution, since Ferrero is a career persecutor known for anti-narcotics work.
12:25Last Sunday morning, two individuals fired shots and detonated an explosive device at the persecutor's residency, causing no injuries to the official.
12:35The police are investigating the presence of explosives after discovering a pit dog in the courtyard of the house.
12:42Authorities found the gateway vehicle burned and have arrested two people into the Los Alvén Criminal Gang, known for its involvement in truck trafficking.
12:52In Vietnam, the death toll from Typhoon Bualoi has risen to 19, while another 21 people remain missing.
13:07Typhoon Bualoi made the long fall on Monday in the central northern part of the country, bringing rain, strong winds and strong surges.
13:25This was storm with the greatest impact recorded this year.
13:30The rainfall increased the threat of landslides and flooding in northern areas.
13:34According to official records, 88 people were injured, more than 100,000 homes were affected and around 10,000 hectares of crops were folded.
13:47The Metrological Agency forecast continued rainfall due to the passage of Bualoi towards the capital, increasing the probability of thunderstorms.

14:48Welcome back.
14:59In Palestine, the escalate of Israeli aggressions on the Gaza Strip have continued, killing at least 39 people in the last 24 hours.
15:08The Ministry of Health reported that at least six Palestinians were killed in an Israeli bombing of a house in Deir el-Bala city in central Gaza, while the Israeli offensive in the Palestinian enclave has intensified.
15:22This brings the total number of people killed to 66,055, with another 168,346 injured since October 7, 2023.
15:35Furthermore, thousands of victims are relieved to remain under the rubble and in the streets, while ambulance and civil defense teams are unable to reach them at this time.
15:49On Monday, the Global Summit Flotilla received humanitarian supplies from direct rescind, transferred with support from the Turkish Navy, as it approaches the Gaza Strip despite military threats and drone attacks.
16:06The Flotilla urged global organizations to coordinate and abandon an end to the siege to the Palestinian people.
16:13They also made an urgent call to maintain global pressure to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches its destination.
16:20Israel has increased tensions around the Flotilla, threatening to prevent its disembarkation and accusing its participants of having links to Hamas.
16:29The Global Summit Flotilla, made up of more than 50 ships with activists, civil society members and parliamentarians from several countries, seeks to break Israel's blockade on Palestine.
16:43Meanwhile, on Monday, the government of Spain banned the transit of U.S. military aid to Israel through the military bases of Rota in Cadiz and Morón de la Frontera in Seville.
17:02Both bases have historically been used by the United States for military supplies.
17:07However, Spanish authorities emphasize that there are facilities under Spanish sovereignty, so any movement of armament must be authorized by Madrid.
17:17This announcement comes amid growing international protests and denunciations about the genocide perpetrated by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
17:25The measure prevents U.S. planes and ships loaded with weapons, ammunition or military equipment for Israel from using the bases located in Spanish territory as a bridge.
17:44In other news, the state of Oregon, on the west coast of the United States, is suing President Donald Trump for deploying military forces under the order to use full force.
17:53This way, State Attorney General Dan Reiffel initiated legal proceedings, asserting that the President has exceeded its authority, while the policies of the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense have escalated tensions in the city of Portland.
18:11Peaceful protests have turned into violent repression by the security forces around the headquarters of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's ICE.
18:20The Attorney General Office assured that the lawsuit aims to protect Oregon and its values.
18:25Also in the United States, massive social protests continue a rejection of the discriminatory policies of the Donald Trump administration, following its intensified persecution of the migrant community.
18:44Human rights organizations say migrants are detained arbitrarily, showing a systematic policy criminalization working families, most of whom are Latin American.
18:56Trump's policies have intensified immigration operations, transforming them into mechanisms of intimidation and persecution.
19:03The U.S. President recently ordered troops to Portland, Oregon, adding to operations in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Memphis.
19:13This increases the presence of military and federal agency forces in cities governed by Democrats.
19:20On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump retaliated his threat to impose steep tariffs on films made outside the United States, claiming that his country's film industry has been damaged by others.
19:39The U.S. head of state declared that he will impose a 100% tariff on any unknown films made outside the United States.
19:46However, no details have been provided on these plans, nor a timeline for when these tariffs could be enacted.
19:54The measure is an attempt to recover the U.S. film industry, a major sector of the economy affected after the Hollywood strikes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
20:03In Russia, the governor of Moscow, Andrei Voroviev, reported on Monday the deaths of two civilians due to a Ukrainian drone attack.
20:26The Air Defense Forces managed to destroy four unmanned aerial vehicles over the times of Vos Hresens and Kolomna in the Russian capital.
20:37In Vos Hresens, a residential building caught fire due to the attack, killing two people, a 76-year-old woman and her 60-year-old grandson.
20:47This incident highlights the arrest faced by residential areas in the region because of the escalation of Ukrainian cross-border attacks targeting civilians.
