00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro affirmed that the country will never be a colony of
00:16anyone and that Venezuela maintains a policy of peaceful democracy in the face of aggressions
00:21from the United States.
00:26In the United States, the government shutdown will continue next week following a failure
00:31of a new vote on Friday in the Senate.
00:37In Lebanon, Huntress commemorated the first anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah
00:41resistance movement leaders, the result of an Israeli attack south of Beirut on the so-called
00:47Night of the Uprising.
00:52Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Sophie Fernandez from the Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:57Cuba.
00:58We'll begin with the news.
00:59In Venezuela, the President Nicolás Maduro affirmed that the country will never be a colony of
01:03anyone and that the country maintains a policy of peaceful democracy in the face of aggressions
01:08from the United States.
01:10During the international conference Neocolonialismo, Neocolonialismo and the Territorial Dispossessions
01:16of Western Imperialismo, the President made a call to the people to fight for their dignity
01:21and the right to exist in a sovereign and peaceful country, in the face of imperial threats
01:26in the region.
01:28Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro also ratified his country's commitment to peaceful diplomacy
01:33and his anti-imperialist character.
01:35The event was attended by more than 130 delegates from 59 countries, which discussed new models
01:41of colonization and the right of peoples to coexist in peace and harmony with one another.
01:56We know enough about diplomacy and we could paraphrase Chávez from that February 29th, 2004, when
02:03he declared the anti-imperialist character of the Bolivarian Revolution of the 21st century.
02:09There is enough diplomacy here, diplomacy for peace, if peace is wanted, and we seek peace,
02:16and diplomacy, also to confront the new imperial attempt to colonize our America, and fight however
02:23we have to fight, in the stage that we have to, in order to preserve the dignity and the
02:28right to life, to peace, and the existence of our people.
02:40Also Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned the 1899th Arbitral Award, the sought to strip
02:46Venezuela of the Ezequivo territory.
02:49126 years ago an arbitral decision was negotiated in conchu poncha in imperial complicity, absolutely
03:01null and void.
03:08An arbitral decision that corresponded to the times of colonial plundering of that 19th century
03:14where Venezuela stood up and gave an example of dignity to the world.
03:25It was the end of the 19th century already, 1899, 126 years ago exactly one day like today.
03:42The arbitral award of Paris Tide, cooked and approved by the old decadent and immoral and criminal
03:48British Empire, and the nascent, voracious and greedy American Empire against a sacred land,
04:01blessed of all times that gave birth to the liberators of America, our beloved Venezuela.
04:12In this sense, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro celebrated the development of the International
04:16Conference Against Colonialismo and Territorial Dispossession.
04:21I welcome the holding of this international conference against colonialism, neo-colonialism,
04:32and the territorial plundering of western empires over the centuries.
04:40In other news in Peru, a judge ordered nine months of preemptive detention on Friday for
04:45Peruvian Tony Valverde Victoriano accused of feminicide of three young women in Buenos Aires.
04:52In the hearing, Judge Cristian Chupitas of the Chilca Preliminary Investigation Court assesses
04:58the prosecution's request for nine months of preemptive detention for the purpose of extraditing
05:03Valverde for the aggravated feminicide of three young women in Argentina.
05:08The magistrate determined that there is arrest of flight and obstruction of justice because
05:12the evidence presented by his defense is insufficient and inadequate to disprove the assumptions
05:18of lack of employment, residency, and family ties.
05:22In this regard, the detainee will be held in the Cañete prison, south of Lima.
05:26Chile prepares to celebrate the 32nd edition of the Valdivia International Film Festival.
05:56From October 13th to 19th, more than 250 films will be presented through various sections,
06:02with the aim of exploring and expanding the boundaries of indigenous audiovisuals and science
06:07and technology.
06:09Five venues in the city of Valdivia will host the screenings, which seek to highlight the
06:13stories of indigenous peoples and provide scientists, artists, and filmmakers with a new experience
06:19on this topic.
06:20The festival will also include premieres, special screenings, and meetings to honor indigenous
06:26cinema from Colombia, Peru, Chile, El Salvador, and Honduras.
06:35And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
06:39Telezor English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and more.
06:44Stay with us.
06:45Welcome back.
06:45The government shutdown in the United States will continue next week, following the failure
06:46of a new vote on Friday in the Senate.
07:07Where the division between Democrats and Republicans shows no signs of abating.
07:19The Republicans failed to pass the budget extension bill until November 21st, due to lack of support
07:25from the Democrats.
07:27Republicans have a majority in the Senate with 53 seats out of 100.
07:30But now the year 60, affirmed the votes to pass the budget package.
07:35Federal agencies and about 750,000 workers have been without funding since Wednesday, when
07:41the U.S. fiscal year ended and Congress was unable to provisionally extend the budget.
07:46The Senate meeting this weekend is no longer likely, due to the lack of agreement between the
07:51Democrats and the Democrats and the Democrats and the Democrats and the Democrats.
08:01Speaker Johnson said the House is out again.
08:06Johnson and the House Republicans care more about protecting the Epstein files than protecting
08:12the American people.
08:15And the bottom line is, today we saw the Republicans run the same play and they
08:21got the same result.
08:23The question is, will they change course?
08:25The votes aren't there.
08:27It's clear from today's vote.
08:29The bottom line is, there's a simple way to end the shutdown.
08:32Come and sit down and negotiate a fair bill with us.
08:36Yes.
08:37Well, we just heard that the Speaker Johnson gave $20 billion to Argentina while our soybean farmers
08:43have literally had their entire market dry up.
08:47So what else has he done in response to our serious, serious request to have negotiations?
08:54He posts a deep fake video with sombreros in it and he thinks that's funny.
09:01This isn't...
09:02Also in the United States, a crowd of protesters was dispersed Friday by law enforcement outside
09:08the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Facility in Broadview, west of Chicago.
09:14At least five people were arrested for aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest
09:19and obstruction of justice, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
09:24This federal presence coincides with the Operation Midway Blitz, a law enforcement campaign launched
09:29in September that has resulted in more than 800 arrests in the Chicago region, according
09:35to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.
09:38This deployment of federal controls during the identification of migrant detention measures
09:42in Chicago, considered a sanctuary city for its policies of inclusion of undocumented immigrants.
09:54Moving on to Honduras, almost 30,000 people voluntarily returned to the country or were deported
09:59from different places of origin so far in 2025, according to the National Institute of Migration,
10:06INM.
10:08According to data published by the State Institution on its website, most of the 29,749 arrivals
10:14of nationals until September 25 are for reasons of deportation, followed by regular and voluntarily
10:21returns.
10:22According to the INM count, the United States tops the list of countries of origin with 22,595
10:29people, followed by Mexico with 3,798 and Guatemala with 3,318.
10:38Despite the U.S. President Donald Trump's strict immigration policy and threats of mass deportation, returns
10:45to Honduras have decreased.
10:51In other news, Morocco is experiencing a wave of youth protests organized under the Gen Z-212
10:57collective to demand improvements in public services and denounce the country's structural
11:02corruption.
11:03Since September 27, the Gen Z-212 movement has called for protests in several cities across
11:10the country to demand improvements in public education and healthcare, in rejection of the
11:15government spending on events such as the 2013 World Cup.
11:19The demonstrations organized through social media and platforms such as Discord, where the
11:24Gen Z-212 group has more than 126,000 members, have been met with heavy police repression.
11:32The demonstrations are considered the largest in Morocco in years.
11:42Moving on to Indonesia, the death toll from a school collapse rose to 14 on Friday after
11:48the recovery crews pulled multiple bodies from beneath the rubble.
11:52Dozens of students remain unaccounted for and the death toll is expected to rise.
11:57Rescuers initially searched for survival after the building caving Monday, but with no more
12:04signs of life detected by Thursday, they turned to heavy excavators equipped with jackhammers
12:09to help them progress more rapidly.
12:12By Friday evening, they had found nine bodies, bringing the confirmed death toll to 14, with
12:17nearly 50 students still unaccounted for.

12:43Welcome back.
13:09In Lebanon, hunters commemorated the first anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah-resistant movement leaders
13:16and martyrs, the result of an Israeli attack south of Beirut on the so-called Night of the Uprising.
13:22A crowd of people came to the palace of martyrdom of Hezbollah Secretary General Hashim Safidini
13:29in the area of Mureyya, on the south of Beirut, where they reaffirmed their commitment to the loyalty and protection of the legacy.
13:36The attendees also reaffirmed their support for resistance in the Gaza Strip and other occupied territories
13:42and ensured the preservation and validity of the legacy as the compass leading to victory for the Lebanese people.
13:50In other news, the Palestinian-resistant movement Hamas announced Friday its willingness to release Israeli prisoners
14:01and proposes an independent Palestinian administration for the Gaza Strip.
14:05The statement was in response to US President Donald Trump's proposal of a ceasefire agreement in the enclave,
14:11in which the Palestinian movement also affirmed it was prepared to immediately enter into negotiations to discuss the details of the exchange.
14:19Furthermore, the movement expressed that the political and territorial future of the enclave must be addressed
14:24within an inclusive Palestinian national framework in which the movement will be part of,
14:29while it does not mention the disarmament of the movement.
14:32Hamas' response comes amid an increase of Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip
14:37and of the number of civilians killed by the Zionist regime.
14:46The 20-point proposal to end the genocide in Gaza agreed on between the United States and Israel
14:51was partially accepted by Hamas on Friday, with some rejections and counter-proposals by the Palestinian-resistant movement.
14:58Let's see the key points of the proposal.
15:06The plan calls for the conflict to end immediately once the two sides agree to the proposal,
15:11although it does not promise the recognition of Palestine as a state.
15:15It also states that all hostages will be released.
15:18The plan also promises that Hamas members who commit to peaceful coexistence and decommission of their weapons
15:24will be given amnesty, and the full aid will be immediately sent to the Gaza Strip.
15:30It also proposes that Gaza will be governed under the temporary transitional governance of a technocratic,
15:38apolitical Palestinian community.
15:40The Hamas and other factions will not have any role in the governance of Gaza,
15:45and that Israel will not occupy or annex the enclave.
15:49Meanwhile, Israeli regime is restricting access to the north of the Gaza Strip, preventing Palestinians from moving safely.
16:01The Zionist occupation is aggravating the situation of thousands of families by preventing their free movement,
16:06and forcing them to travel long distances on foot.
16:10Humanitarian conditions are becoming more difficult every day due to shortages and the blockade of entry of basic necessities.
16:18In this regard, social human rights organizations are renewing their demands for the opening of humanitarian corridors
16:24and the guarantee of free movement of goods for civilians.
16:34And the United Nations organization considers that the Gaza Strip is not a safe place for Palestinians,
16:40due to the ongoing Israeli siege.
16:43The spokesperson for the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, said that it was ridiculous to describe the southern part of the Palestinian enclave
16:50as a safe area, given that Palestinians live under constant siege by Israel.
16:55He also emphasized that the conditions in which civilians are living in shelters are terrifying.
17:00This is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis amidst the recent attacks by the Tel Aviv regime on the coastal enclave.
17:20The effects of global warming in Antarctica, with faster melting and ice flow into the ocean,
17:27are becoming increasingly similar to those observed in the Arctic,
17:30which may have negative consequences on sea level.
17:33Antarctica was long considered more stable than the Arctic, but the situation has changed,
17:39said scientist Ruth Mortam of the Danish Meteorological Institute.
17:43Sea ice is disappearing, temperatures are also rising, glacier currents are accelerating,
17:49and meltwater is penetrating cracks in the glaciers, causing them to slide more quickly towards the ocean.
17:56If the Greenland Arctic ice sheet were to melt completely, the oceans would rise above 7 meters,
18:03while if this were to happen in Antarctica, the increase would exceed 50 meters.
18:08World Space Week 2025 begins on October 4th, focusing on educating, inspiring and connecting the global community,
18:22and on humanity's progress in developing sustainable living solutions for space.
18:27October 4th marks the anniversary of the launch of the first satellite created by humanity, Sputnik 1st, in 1957.
18:35Until October 20th, there will be days of activities featuring debates, meetings, workshops, interactive sessions,
18:42student exchanges with experts, exhibitions of revolutionary advances in this field, and relevant figures,
18:48all under this year's premise, Living in Space.
18:52The celebration is the world's leading event related to space, use and technology, according to the United Nations.
18:58And like this, we have come to the end of this June's Brief.
