00:00The Lone Ranger
00:30Welcome again to the big match.
00:49Today, three games from the first division
00:51with action from the top and the bottom of the table.
00:54And our main match is between two sides battling near the bottom
00:57as Spurs take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
01:00And our studio guests from that game,
01:01the Spurs' popular Irish goalkeeper, Pat Jennings.
01:04We've also got some thrilling action from the bottom club,
01:07Sheffield United, as they meet Manchester City.
01:09And then we switch to the team that started the day at the top,
01:12Queen's Park Rangers, and their visit to Coventry City.
01:15But first of all, of course, we move off to White Hart Lane,
01:17the Tottenham Hotspur's game against Wolves.
01:20Wolves aside, there's only one off the bottom of the first division table.
01:23And indeed, Wolves have an appalling away record.
01:25They've won only once away from Molyneux in the last 13 months.
01:29So the task, obviously, is going to be a difficult one for them today
01:32against this Spurs side, who are now beginning to move a little better
01:35and indeed have gone seven games without defeat.
01:39So, as we come to White Hart Lane,
01:41it's Spurs against Wolves with a rainbow over the ground.
01:45And the team sheets for today show that for Spurs,
01:48Alfie Conn and Steve Perriman have both recovered from Knox
01:50and Spurs can feel an unchanged side with young Neil McNabb as the substitute.
01:54Wolves make changes in the forward areas.
01:56Alan Sunderland gets another game at No. 10.
01:59John Farley is brought into the No. 11 position.
02:01They face a Spurs side, as I say, that's had a recent good run.
02:05And someone who's never been on the losing side for them
02:06since he arrived from Aberdeen, their massive No. 5, Willie Young.
02:10And in the Wolves team, good to see that former Arsenal stalwart,
02:13Bob McNabb, back in town.
02:15The referee today is Ron Crabb from Exeter.
02:18And the crowd for London's only First Division game is 26,100.
02:24So, Spurs kick off, attacking the girl to our left.
02:26White shirts, black shorts, white stockings.
02:29Wolves in the familiar old gold shirts,
02:32but this afternoon in white shorts
02:33because they can't clash, of course, with the black shorts of Spurs.
02:39Both sides, in fact, very much in the doldrums at the moment.
02:41Tickly Wolves next to bottom in the First Division
02:43have only won one of their last seven league games.
02:46Spurs showing a smattering of form in their last seven league games
02:49as Coates goes down and Gary Pearce
02:52struggling just a little bit as that ball gathered a bit of pace on the wet turf.
02:59Spurs, I say, seven without defeat
03:02and, in fact, a very good win last week at Leicester 3-2.
03:06And nobody more worried about that Wolves performance of the last few weeks
03:17than Bill McGarry in the Sheepskin Coat there, their manager.
03:22Here's Con.
03:22Jones, Monroe, lost out there again.
03:30Chivers, Con.
03:33Callister up on the left, the spare man, here he is.
03:37Driven well.
03:38Might come in for Neymar.
03:39Spurs ahead, four and a half minutes gone
03:50and a fine goal
03:51with McAllister taking up a very intelligent position on the left touchline
03:56doing the right thing as he was challenged by driving the ball in low
04:00and it came through to Jimmy Neyver
04:02who hit a tremendous shot
04:04for his first goal of the season.
04:06Spurs one, Wolves nil.
04:08Jimmy Neyver, the man who's given Spurs the goal they badly wanted early on.
04:15Parkin.
04:17And a sort of goal, of course, that will once again
04:20knock the confidence of a Wolverhampton Wanderers side
04:23whose confidence has been knocked a fair bit.
04:26They've lost 11 of the last 12 away games they've played.
04:29a side at the moment
04:30that is very fragile indeed when it travels.
04:42Neyver are getting in again.
04:47Chivers.
04:48That's wrong towards Kerriman.
04:49That bounce well for Jones.
04:51Con couldn't quite get in there.
04:54And that'll be a throw.
04:55Chivers already coming across.
04:57That can mean only one thing.
04:59A long, long throw.
05:00McGarry looking a bit pensive there.
05:03The Wolves manager.
05:05And Chivers with that long, effortless throw again.
05:07Chris Jones getting his header in.
05:09And a good punch away though by Gary Pearce.
05:14Farley after it, but Pratt's in command.
05:17Young.
05:20Chivers onside.
05:21But only just.
05:21But only just.
05:22Con.
05:25Chivers.
05:26Nicely played there by Tottenham.
05:28Con going across there and almost number two.
05:31But that really was some brilliant player game by Tottenham.
05:34Involving Chivers and involving Con.
05:37And almost making a chance.
05:38And just look now as Chivers goes thundering back the length of the field.
05:44To try and dispossess Alan Sunderland.
05:47Gives away a free kick as he does so.
05:49But that fighting back by Chivers, I think meant an awful lot to Tottenham.
05:55It shows the sort of spirit that they've begun to rouse again in themselves.
06:01A free kick though for Wolves.
06:03A moment of danger for Tottenham.
06:04Mike Bailey, the Wolves skipper with it.
06:06Floated towards the near post.
06:08And Richard's gone up very well there.
06:10Way above McAllister.
06:11So Jennings.
06:22Crowd bubbling a bit at the opening seven minutes or so by Tottenham.
06:30Nabb.
06:33Bailey putting it on rather hopefully.
06:36Keith Osgood.
06:38Back to Jennings.
06:41John Richard's shown a fair bit of pace already in this game.
06:55That'll fall for Chivers.
06:59Ball blocking the shot.
07:03Parkin doing the safe thing.
07:10Turn it again.
07:11The number of times that Wolves are giving the ball away at the moment is quite remarkable.
07:14Coates now finding McAllister.
07:16Who had such a hand in that first Tottenham goal.
07:20Bailey beating Con.
07:23Willie Young there.
07:25McAllister again.
07:26Sending it off to Chivers.
07:27A nice header there by Chivers.
07:29Poor neighbour.
07:30Taking on Parkin.
07:32Doing very well.
07:34Back for Coates.
07:35Oh, and a tremendous save there.
07:37By Gary Pearce.
07:40Good jinking run by Jimmy Naber.
07:42Perfectly weighted pass there for Ralph Coates.
07:45Slight deflection.
07:46Which made that save by Pearce even better.
07:49So a corner for Tottenham.
07:54Jimmy Naber's going to take it.
07:56Willie Young is up again.
07:57Terryman making the run towards the near post.
08:00But more as a decoy.
08:01And again Young got there with a header.
08:03Bailey.
08:04And Willie Carr.
08:05Farley.
08:10Bailey.
08:13Hibbett.
08:14Tremendous ball there by McBailey.
08:17And Coates getting back in time for Tottenham.
08:20Superb ball by Bailey.
08:21Almost sent Hibbett on his way.
08:24Very good defence indeed by Ralph Coates.
08:31Hibbett with the Wolverhampton Wanderers corner.
08:33Frank Munro on the Spurs goal line.
08:35Well that'll fall nicely for Young.
08:41Mike Bailey.
08:44Chivers presumably will get up to that one.
08:45No he didn't in the end.
08:46But an offside against Farley.
08:53Wolves certainly looking to a man like Bailey now.
08:55To get them on the move.
08:57To sort out their problems.
08:58Particularly in midfield.
09:02Chivers.
09:05Ball winning it in the air.
09:12Here's Perryman.
09:14Played for Coates.
09:19Crack for Coates again.
09:20Good advantage played.
09:25Well that was bad luck of the referee.
09:28He did his utmost to play the advantage there.
09:32He waited and waited.
09:33Did exactly the right thing.
09:34And then felt that Coates wasn't going to get off of his feet in time.
09:37Well the Indian Ralph Coates did with the whistle had gone.
09:40So bad luck of the referee there.
09:41But it's a free kick for Tottenham.
09:46John Pratt with the free kick.
09:48Floating in again towards Willie Young.
09:51He pushed as he went in.
09:53But it warms the free kick.
09:54And he yelled at.
09:55Great justice.
09:55Unbelievable.
09:57Unbelievable.
09:57Yes.
09:58Unbelievable.
10:00Yes.
10:00Well.
10:00I'm out of that.
10:00Oh my God.
10:01Tony Hill.
10:02Oh my God.
10:03I'm out of that.
10:03Oh my God.
10:03Young again.
10:04Now.
10:04Bailey.
10:05Oh.
10:05Knock on.
10:05äng.
10:06Young again
10:10Now
10:11Bailey
10:14Parkin
10:16Parkin again
10:21To Willicar
10:22On for Farley again
10:24This is a good Wolves move
10:25Sunderland
10:26A little too high for him
10:28And in the end the header was no problem at all
10:31For Pagenix
10:32Callister
10:53Jones
10:57Now Neymar
11:03Coates is up there too
11:06Call back again
11:09Parkin
11:20Playing injury time now
11:22Although
11:23I can't think there's been any injuries
11:25That I can recall in the first 45 minutes
11:27And the whistle goes for half time
11:33Strange first half
11:35A brilliant first 10 minutes
11:36In which Spurs showed all the style in the world
11:38And scored the only goal
11:40So far
11:41Through Jimmy Neighbour
11:42And a very good one it was too
11:43After some good work by Don McAllister
11:44And then the game just fell away
11:46It was aimless
11:47The pole was constantly being given away
11:51And there were really no passing movements
11:53Worthy of the name
11:54Nonetheless
11:55There's plenty more to come on the big match this afternoon
11:58And the half time score at White Hart Lane
12:01That reads Spurs 1 Wolves 0
12:03We'll be right back with the second half
12:05Welcome back to White Hart Lane
12:19Wolves now attacking the goal to our left
12:21And Spurs with their substitute on
12:23Neil McNabb
12:23On for Alfie Kohn
12:25And that rain really has
12:29Spiced up the surface a little bit
12:31Quickened up the game
12:33Touch there by Richards
12:35Sunderland hoping to make something of it
12:37Here's Himmert
12:38Right across the line now
12:40For John Farley
12:41Oh Farley doing well
12:45He might get a shot in here
12:46He has
12:46And Jenny's just got the touch to it
12:49That was a very fine piece of goalkeeping as well
12:51Good little drinking piece of play there by John Farley
12:54Former Watford man
12:55Hit across the face of that goal
12:57And another former Watford man
12:58Pat Jennings
12:59Pushing it wide
13:00Corner already taken
13:05Here's McNabb with a chance to lift it in
13:07And Hibbitt's header
13:09Over and a goal kick
13:10John Pratt
13:23Miss Jones
13:27McNabb
13:30Oh that was a cheeky bit of skill if you like
13:36Labour maybe can take it up
13:39Running into trouble though
13:43And Carr and Hibbitt should get it away
13:46Young
13:49Played for McNabb again
13:52Was good
13:56Jones up very well
13:59Here's Perryman
13:59There's McNabb with a shot just one
14:01Well that was a good forceful break again
14:06By Tottenham
14:07And not for the first time this afternoon
14:08The heading ability of Chris Jones under pressure
14:10Opened up the way
14:12Perryman and McNabb both pouncing on it
14:14And McNabb shot in the end going wide
14:16Bailey
14:25McNabb
14:29Sunderland
14:31Carl
14:32McNabb
14:33John Richards
14:36Hibbitt
14:37Oh he was lucky to find the touch there for Farley
14:39Oh my word
14:40Another beautiful Wolves move
14:46And there haven't been many of them
14:47And it came to eventually
14:49With a little touch of luck there
14:50As Hibbitt played it on for Farley
14:52Caught that superbly
14:54And it looked for a moment
14:55As though it might hit the post and go in
14:56That really was no more than an inch wide
14:59Spurs taking it up again
15:01Here's Chivers
15:02McNabb doing his best to get in the way
15:04That was the only way that he could stop him
15:07And go off the field at the same time
15:09Daly will come on
15:15Former England Youth International
15:21But the problem there for Wolves
15:27Is that a defender goes off
15:28And an attacker comes on
15:30Coates with the free kick
15:33Coates again
15:37Pratt
15:39That's not a bad old shot
15:43And in the end it was a very good save
15:46Making quite a habit of that
15:49John Pratt
15:49Getting long dangerous shots
15:51From 30 yards
15:53And that running caught so well
15:56And pierced it well
15:58Anxiety on that Wolves bench now
16:08They want people to stay forward
16:09In spite of pressure being put on them
16:11And here's Willie Young
16:12There's a goal
16:13His first for Tottenham
16:17And one that really could make all the difference now
16:22The ball came over from the right
16:25Young caught it well
16:28Into the back of the net
16:30Tottenham two
16:31Wolves nil
16:33And Willie Young opens his account with his new club
16:37And seems pretty pleased about it
16:43Bayley
16:44Farley
16:58Farley
17:02Toglu! Toglu! Toglu!
17:32Toglu! Toglu!
18:02Toglu!
18:03Toglu!
18:04Toglu!
18:05Toglu!
18:06Toglu!
18:07Toglu!
18:08Toglu!
18:09Toglu!
18:10Toglu!
18:11Toglu!
18:12Toglu!
18:13Toglu!
18:14Toglu!
18:15Toglu!
18:16Toglu!
18:17Toglu!
18:18Toglu!
18:19Toglu!
18:20So, Pearce with a goal kick.
18:31Dab.
18:38Dab to Pratt.
18:42That'll come for Perriman. Touch on now for Neil McNabb.
18:46And to the left foot, tried a little toe poke in the end, or he may have stubbed his toe as he tried a shot.
18:56It's Parkin, and now it's Farley.
19:06Bailey.
19:07Bailey getting in again, tried to get in again, but it's Jimmy Naver now.
19:19Three against three now, and a chance for Tottenham as Naver goes past his man, and the shot goes past Pearce and also past the post.
19:25Very interesting looking break that for Tottenham. Three against three.
19:32Labour taking on his man and beating him, and then shooting perhaps a little ambitiously.
19:37And the ball going wide.
19:39Sunderland.
19:52Sunderland.
19:54A little too casual there. Jones robbed him.
19:57There's Chivers.
20:00Chris Jones.
20:02Naver.
20:03No.
20:26No.
20:27John Pratt, towards Martin Shivers again.
20:41Overlook to me as though he's being pulled back.
20:45Indeed it's a free kick.
20:50Jimmy Naver with it.
20:52Curling again towards Willie Young.
20:54Oh, McNabb!
20:55Yes! Number three!
21:00Neil McNabb.
21:02Gary Pearce infuriated and in fact the referee coming across to the Lionsmen.
21:07But the Lionsmen will already run back towards the centre.
21:10Now, is it 2-0?
21:13Or is it 3-0?
21:18It's going to be 2-0.
21:22So Neil McNabb disappointed.
21:25The goal is ruled out.
21:30And that's a thing we'll have to look at.
21:37So here's Mike Bailey.
21:38I think we have a good job.
21:39I'm going to be looking forward to a team.
21:41We're going to be going to be running around.
21:46I think it's going to be a team.
21:48It's going to be a team.
21:50And we'll be working outside on a team.
21:52I think we're supposed to have a team of things.
21:53We've got to team in and I think here's some team in.
21:55We are talking.
21:56Ava.
22:26Chivas, McCall, Parkin, Daly, now Bailey, hit well and saved well, Daly coming in, Farley
22:47coming in and saved brilliantly, never lets them down Pat Jennings, may be a little fortunate
22:58with the first one, but a superb save from the second man, so a corner then for Wolves, Willie
23:08Carr again with it, come for Carr again, now for Parkin, deflection and a corner, Hibbett
23:25with this corner for Wolves, hit towards Bailey, on the volley, oh and what a save again, absolutely
23:33amazing, last season Pat Jennings kept Spurs in the first division, and today he has kept
23:41Wolves out in brilliant style, Mike Bailey can't believe it, he caught that volley, absolutely
23:47perfectly, and the crowd are still, 30 seconds after that save, still roundly applauding Pat
23:53Jennings, look at Hibbett, he can't believe it either, Willie Young getting there,
24:03still just under 5 minutes to go
24:29Monroe,
24:36Monroe,
24:51Bailey,
24:56double four for Willie Carr, now for Bailey again, who's never stopped,
25:05not stopping now either, John Richards with a shot and a deflection and Pat Jennings is in trouble, no he's not,
25:15Mike Bailey picking him up, a good sporting gesture there from the Wolves skipper, and that deflection looked as though it might have had Pat Jennings in trouble, all I can say is we should have known better, and he pushed it away again,
25:28but Willie Carr now with a corner for Wolves, a much better second half for Wolves,
25:37Young getting it away, Parkin, oh cut out nicely there, by Pratt, here's Parkin, Wolves have got nearly everybody up now, curious formation this, even Monroe has up there and stayed up there, there's Hibbett with a shot, and there's the
25:47Jennings again,
26:10the
26:17Richard's given offside, there wasn't much in it, because Pratt was a bit late coming forward,
26:22for that pass back to Pat Jennings,
26:39and
26:44their own man Don McAllister for that pass back to Pat Jones. Jones with the header, Neal
26:54McNair. They haven't played badly today Spurs and they've shown some real signs as well.
27:05Chivers, here's Jones, can he turn on his man? He can!
27:09Well, he's not played at all badly Chris Jones. He's taken a fair buffeting there as the
27:20target man so often. He deserved a goal there, he turned well and got away from the defender
27:26and then smashed wildly.
27:28Bailey. Bailey again. Here's Daly. Or rather Parkin and now for Willie Carr. Last seconds of the game now.
27:55Crossed in again there, Daly shot in this time! It's there!
28:03And so Wolves at least have got the goal but so much of their second half play has suggested that they deserve.
28:09Cross coming in, well hit from the left. Daly the substitute getting up well and at last Pat Jennings is clean.
28:16Spurs two, Wolves one. The scorer Steve Daly. And we have no more than a few seconds left.
28:27Now if Wolves can plant it downfield, they might still do something. Here's Sunderland with it.
28:34Bailey. Bailey. Right up there stopped by Willie Yard. Now it's with Coates. Now McAllister.
28:45Apart from the substitution there really is no time at all to be added on. No injuries. Back with Pat Jennings again.
28:52And there goes the final whistle. A victory for Spurs. More trouble for Wolves.
29:08Willie Young having scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur in the second half.
29:13To add to one by Jimmy Naver. And then Steve Daly getting one right at the end for Wolves.
29:18Who had a much better second half. But the hero for Spurs, no question of that.
29:25Pat Jennings. Three or four absolutely tremendous saves. The best of all probably from that volley by Mick Bailey.
29:32So victory for Tottenham. The final score line here at White Hart Lane. Spurs two, Wolves one.
29:40Yes, the man of the match. And never a doubt about it of course. Spurs goalkeeper Pat Jennings.
29:46And we're delighted to have Pat with us today. In fact, I think it's the first time you've been on the big match in some seven or eight years, Pat.
29:51That's right, Brian. We've taken a long time getting around to you.
29:53I think it's a bit long in the next 12 years.
29:55Well, there you are. It's good to have you today. I noticed in fact, quoting from the news of the world this morning,
30:00Mike Bailey says, don't ask me how he did it. All I know, and everybody in our dressing room agrees, that this fellow is the best in the world.
30:07That's nice to wake up to on a Sunday morning, I would think.
30:10Yeah, it makes a change, yeah. But it's a very big place in the world. I wouldn't like to go as far as that.
30:18But were you particularly happy with your performance yesterday, as everybody else seemed to be delighted with it?
30:23Wolves accepted.
30:24Well, if we went through the same next week, finish with the same result, I'd be more than happy.
30:29But your reactions seem as sharp now. What, you're 30 now, Pat, aren't you?
30:33They seem as sharp now as ever they were. What do you attribute that to?
30:37Probably my positioning now helps me a little bit more than probably in the early years.
30:43I think being a goalkeeper depends a lot on this positioning.
30:48Do you train as hard as you've ever trained?
30:50I'm probably training a little bit harder than what I did in the earlier years with Bill Nicholson.
30:58Concentrating on what sort of things now?
31:00Well, every day now I have a goalkeeping session maybe for 15, 20 minutes.
31:07Let's have a look at some of those saves yesterday and you tell us what it was that appeared most of all to you about them.
31:12The first one, I think, is one from John Richards where, if anything, I'll say it because I know you won't,
31:16that he exposes Willie Young a little bit there for pace. But what about his shot, Pat?
31:21I think Keith Osgood there, if he hadn't fell over, could probably have got a tackle in.
31:28I'm interested in you, not Keith Osgood at the moment, no.
31:32Put your modesty aside for just one moment.
31:34I think, in fact, with this one here, probably you felt you could have done a little better with that shot from Mike Bailey.
31:39Yeah, I think you can see that it pitched a little bit in front of me there.
31:42Maybe only felt I might have held it.
31:45But I was lucky enough to get away with it here, knock the second one out.
31:49That was luck, was it?
31:50Yeah, a little bit.
31:52But I think the one that everybody's raving about, and rightly so,
31:55certainly from a spectacular point of view, was this volley from Mike Bailey.
31:58Tell us about this from the word go.
32:00Er, Lear Terry had been getting in the cross in the corner.
32:04Mike Bailey coming on to it now.
32:07And I didn't see it till it was on its way.
32:10I spoke to a lot of journalists after the game yesterday who watched football over the world
32:14and all agreed that that was one of the best saves they've ever seen.
32:17Er, well, I was pleased that, like, but I think, er, the fact that it was over my head, I would have been disappointed had it gone in the net.
32:25And he hit it perfectly, Mick Bailey, didn't he?
32:27Yeah, I think that was probably what made it look, er, that much, or as good as what it did.
32:32Yeah, it's the ones that are mishit that are often the most difficult ones.
32:35But what I want to do now is to show you the viewers, in fact, a Pat Jennings' eye view of that tremendous volley and the save.
32:41You'll just see Mike Bailey, and you'll just see the ball come onto his left foot in a moment.
32:46And as Pat said, he only saw it when he was on its way.
32:50As you can see, there are players in the way there.
32:57Superb.
33:00You've got Willie Young playing in front of you now. What does that mean to you?
33:03Er, well, I think the fact that we're having lost since Willie's come, er, that says enough for itself.
33:08He's done a very good job for his, er, blocking up the middle.
33:11You're still a bit near the bottom, though, aren't you?
33:14Well, I think we're improving all the time.
33:16Mind, it's a bit worrying when you see a team playing as well as Willie's done, er, yesterday to beat below us.
33:21Yeah. Particularly in the second half, they look very good.
33:23That's right.
33:24I get a lot of letters from, er, from your fans in Ireland saying it's about time you had Pat Jennings on the television,
33:28and show us some of his saves. Er, in fact, Northern Ireland got a very difficult job in the European Championship, haven't they?
33:33Er, I thought we played well against Norway the only night we could have easily scored, er, five or six goals.
33:39And had we done it, would have left a little bit easier for us in Yugoslavia.
33:44But I think we're still in with a chance.
33:46Good. Well, for all our friends in Northern Ireland, and for Spurs fans as well, I'm glad we've got you on the big match at last, Pat.
33:52And many, many congratulations on that performance yesterday.
33:54Thanks very much, Pat. Thank you very much.
33:55Thank you very much.
33:57But, of course, one thing that we've got to sort out before we go on to our next match, er, is why the goal by Neil McNabb,
34:01that would have made it, er, three for Spurs, was disallowed by the referee Ron Crabb.
34:06And I think as you look at it now, have a look at Willie Young coming forward, the big figure there in the centre.
34:11Does he push John Richards here as they go for that corner?
34:15There's his hands are up.
34:17And you'll see as Neil McNabb turns the ball very well into the back of that Wolves net, the first reaction of Gary Pearce, the Wolves goalkeeper, is to say,
34:24look, he pushed.
34:26And in the end, the referee agreed.
34:28Well, our second match features the club right at the bottom of the First Division, that's Sheffield United.
34:42They'd taken only three points from their first 14 games when they met up yesterday with Manchester City at Bramall Lane Sheffield.
34:48Manchester City, indeed, had had a day of trouble leading up to that game.
34:51Their coach was involved in a crash on the way to the game.
34:53And goalkeeper Joe Corrigan was taken ill and replaced at the very last moment by reserve Keith McRae.
34:59Well, the pictures come from Yorkshire Television.
35:00The commentator's Keith McLean.
35:02Sheffield United in the stripes.
35:07Heavy collision of bodies but no foul.
35:09It was Watson who won it over Guthrie.
35:11This is Oaks running it.
35:18Good piece of work by Barnes.
35:19No!
35:20Oh, yes!
35:21It's Booth!
35:23Tommy Booth, who scored here last season, makeshift centre-forward this afternoon, rattles in that goal.
35:33And Sheffield United up against it already in the opening minutes.
35:36So, Tommy Booth, who might have been a Nottingham Forest player now, pressed into the number nine jersey this afternoon, bangs in the shot.
35:45Here's Woodward now.
35:47And again the pass adrift, and a quick one-two-three by City sends them away through Stewart.
35:54This is Hartford waiting for Clements to break on his outside, taking down the middle, Hartford shot!
36:00And that could be two!
36:02Oh, wonderful save by McAllister!
36:04McAllister, McAllister looked hopelessly out of position when Stewart holed in on that.
36:11But McAllister, after making the first save, then saved brilliantly from Stewart.
36:16And getting a pat on the head from Colin Franks.
36:19It looked hopeless for McAllister there when Stewart moved in for the kill.
36:22There's the corner kick.
36:23Stewart.
36:24And Curry getting it away.
36:30Booth.
36:32Bell.
36:33Hooked away again by Curry.
36:36Still City keep it up.
36:38Woodward going for it.
36:41Badger.
36:44Oaks.
36:45And Booth is onside.
36:47But Cahoon intervenes.
36:50Still City keep it going.
36:51Now Eddie for Sheffield United.
36:55Dearden.
36:57Woodward.
36:58A long one right across the park for Garvit.
37:02Really widened the pitch did that.
37:04Woodward passed.
37:05And gave Garvit room for the cross.
37:07A deflection.
37:08And it's coming out to Dearden!
37:10Oh, a good effort widened!
37:11And a superb save by McRae.
37:14Magnificent go deep at each end.
37:17Billy Dearden really caught that beautifully.
37:19And it was the fingertips of Keith McRae.
37:21Corrigan's deputy that denied him.
37:25Garvit.
37:28Up goes Watson and wins it.
37:31Now Bell.
37:32Oaks.
37:33Donnerky's gone outside Barnes.
37:34Barnes crossed towards Booth.
37:35Hemsley glancing it, but only into the path of Bell.
37:36Bell's low cross.
37:37The knee's coming out to Clements.
37:38And a deflection for Barnes.
37:39Barnes!
37:40Why?
37:41He scored!
37:42A goal out of nothing!
37:43The shot was deflected by a defender.
37:44I think it was Ted Hemsley.
37:45Barnes just didn't give it up.
37:46It looked as if he was going to travel out of play.
37:47But young Peter Barnes wouldn't give it up.
37:49He went after it, and from the narrowest of angles, put it past McAllister.
37:50He's coming out to Clements.
37:51He's coming out to Clements.
37:52And a deflection for Barnes.
37:53Why?
37:54He scored!
37:55A goal out of nothing!
38:00The shot was deflected by a defender.
38:02I think it was Ted Hemsley.
38:04Barnes just didn't give it up.
38:06It looked as if he was going to travel out of play.
38:09But young Peter Barnes wouldn't give it up.
38:12He went after it.
38:13And from the narrowest of angles, put it past McAllister.
38:21Eddie's header.
38:22That goal came in the 28th minute.
38:24Here's Woodward putting it up for Guthrie's header.
38:27And it's now considered it.
38:29It was certainly over.
38:30And immediately within a minute, Guthrie has pulled one back.
38:34The goal famine of Bramall Lane isn't last broken.
38:37Within a minute of Peter Barnes' goal.
38:40Guthrie, Chris Guthrie, gets his sixth goal of the season.
38:47Dearden.
38:49One minute.
38:50A corner.
38:54The last minute of the first half, Billy Dearden.
38:56One or two of his passes have been going astray this afternoon.
39:02Alan Woodward quick to take this corner.
39:07Near post ball.
39:09Back out to Woodward from Dearden.
39:13In goes Guthrie.
39:14What a save by McRae from the six yard box.
39:20Guthrie went roaring in.
39:22He must have thought he'd equalised.
39:24Great save by McRae.
39:26Donerkey.
39:27Donerkey.
39:28Only as far as Badger.
39:29Woodward.
39:30That was a foul after the ball had gone.
39:35I think Tewart and Badger.
39:37No, it's not Tewart.
39:38Yes, it is.
39:39It's Tewart caught Badger after the ball had gone.
39:43And went down himself.
39:44Both knees being attended to.
39:52Both men off the field.
39:55Temporally.
39:57Badger struggling back onto it.
39:59Now is Mr Kirkpatrick to get it moving?
40:02Referees differ.
40:03Roy Capey would have had them moving before now.
40:05Curry to take a free kick.
40:10So Tewart adjudged the offender.
40:15Curry's.
40:18Punched by McRae.
40:20Penalty!
40:22A penalty!
40:26Now, what has Mr Kirkpatrick awarded here?
40:30It looks...
40:31He's going over to Linesman to consult.
40:37At first we thought it was a penalty.
40:43Yes, it is.
40:44Now...
40:47Whatever that is for, presumably pushing in the box,
40:50the only thing we can presume
40:52is that either McRae, as he came out,
40:55or one of the Manchester City defenders
40:57was pushing as that free kick from Curry came over,
41:00Keith Eddy, who's scored from two penalties already this season,
41:06comes up for what could be Sheffield United's equalising goal.
41:14Yes!
41:152-2!
41:18And...
41:20seven and a half minutes into the second half,
41:23the score line is 2-2.
41:26And that's how it finished, 2-2.
41:28And, of course, it still leaves Sheffield United firmly at the bottom.
41:40Now our third match, as we follow the fortunes
41:42of the exciting Queen's Park Rangers side
41:44that started yesterday at the top of the First Division.
41:46They were away to Coventry City.
41:47The pictures come from ATV,
41:49the commentators Hugh Johns,
41:51Queen's Park Rangers are in the red and white halves.
41:55Francis...
42:00Lloyd...
42:01for Coop.
42:02Mortimer's going through the middle.
42:04That's a beautifully flying ball for him.
42:06And the shot is on for Holmes!
42:08Drove it well!
42:10Really fired that one!
42:16Well, that was a fine bit of attractive attacking football from Coventry.
42:20And they haven't done with that move yet.
42:22Brogan knocks it in again.
42:23Green!
42:25And the cross!
42:27Oh!
42:28That Rangers goal is...
42:30They're absolutely charmed right at the moment.
42:32Cross very nearly getting that one.
42:34Mortimer to his right.
42:36Green goes on running.
42:37Marks came by.
42:40Masson.
42:41Thomas is alright!
42:42He's gone through for a goal here.
42:45Now in fact it's gonna be Don Givens.
42:47Will walk one in!
42:491-0!
42:51A most remarkable whack-back by...
42:53He's gone through for a goal here,
42:54now in fact it's gonna be Don Givens.
42:56We'll walk one in.
42:581-0!

44:05jimmy holmes oh and that very nearly plucked it

44:28looking for lloyd's jack

46:40they say goalkeepers are crazy they're brilliant as well let's reflect again on the view of the
46:44walls players yesterday that pat is the greatest goalkeeper in the world who can argue with that
46:49after yesterday's breathtaking performance for tottenham hotspur
