00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Six games on tonight's Match of the Day featuring two of last season's top three and all of
00:00:56the promoted sides. A new face in the studio as well. Hello. And I've already been told
00:01:01about the significance of the running order. Presumably that's why I'm third. Always first
00:01:05on any team sheet, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards are here. And for the first game, Manchester
00:01:11City began their season with a convincing 4-0 win away at Wolves. Thomas Frank's Tottenham
00:01:16were today's visitors and Spurs have a great record at the Etihad. Guy Mowbray, watch this
00:01:21one. City's opening day show was almost matched by Spurs' own breeze past Burnley. Pep Guardiola
00:01:30needs no prompting about the test for his team today. A 4-0 Spurs victory here last season
00:01:35and Thomas Frank's Brentford have been victorious here in the recent past as well. For Manchester
00:01:41City, two changes to their line-up. Omar Mamouche and Rayan Shirky replaced Spanato Silva and Jeremy
00:01:46Doku. James Trafford continues in goal with Edison on the bench joined by Phil Foden and
00:01:52Rodri. Two differences with the Spurs' 11 also both coming in midfield. Rodrigo Bentancur
00:01:59and Jo Palina come in for Archie Gray and Lukas Bergwald.
00:02:05It's a very attacking looking Manchester City line-up this afternoon. Haaland, of course,
00:02:12the figurehead at the top. Haaland comes to receive, under real pressure though. He lost
00:02:18the ball and in stretching to keep it in his possession. He has fouled Richalis. It's the
00:02:25harassing of Cristian Romero that caused the problem for Haaland. Spurs just having slightly
00:02:31the better of the opening few minutes here. Doesn't look as though this will be anything
00:02:36other than a Porro shot on goal. Porro hits it straight into the wall then rockets one back.
00:02:43Always wide but it flew. Pedro Porro was a scorer of one of the Spurs' four here last November.
00:02:50Romero just a little nudge on Haaland. Now look at Mahmouche getting in and trying to find the angle.
00:03:00Wasn't far away. A little bit of miscommunication between Pedro Porro and Guglielmo Vicario.
00:03:06Mahmouche very nearly profited.
00:03:11Pep Guardiola has lost nine games in management against Spurs. He's only been on the wrong end of results.
00:03:17more often against Liverpool. Ten defeats to them.
00:03:21Again, it's had its moments but never really got going as a whole.
00:03:25Haaland.
00:03:27Get through. Left Paulinho on the floor. The ball is played through and that's a five block save by Vicario, who is alert and alive every time.
00:03:36By accident or design it was a nice ball through from Haaland to Mahmouche.
00:03:45Eight goals for Romero Mahmouche after joining halfway through last season. All of them came at home.
00:03:51Now Richarlison has gone through and look at Johnson steaming in on the other side.
00:03:58And Johnson scored. But now the flag goes up. Many Spurs celebrations are cut very short indeed.
00:04:06Very quick decision made by assistant referee Blake Antrobus.
00:04:16I think the Spurs bench are reasonably confident that Richarlison might have been on side here.
00:04:23Over to semi-automated to do its stuff. The decision's been made.
00:04:32And it is Manchester City now. Chalmers for one.
00:04:40Brennan Johnson follows up a goal against Burnley last Saturday with a huge one at City.
00:04:46Bento.
00:04:52Benton Cook.
00:04:54That time Richarlison was offside.
00:04:57Cuddus isn't.
00:04:58Cuddus stopped by Trafford who has to react quickly again to stop Richarlison.
00:05:04He's looking at a gaping goal there. And that's brilliant work from Pedro Porro.
00:05:08He's down just inside the area.
00:05:10Bento.
00:05:15Nothing happening yet.
00:05:17It's now being pulled over as Oscar Bob tries to break the Manchester City.
00:05:21Rip-roaring into the first half here.
00:05:27Now where did any offence, if there was one, take place?
00:05:30I think it's just outside the box. It is.
00:05:35So there's nothing more to check.
00:05:36James Trafford catching Cuddus outside the area. Got a bit of the ball as well.
00:05:44Been looked at to see whether that might have constituted handball just outside the box.
00:05:50Tough one to give, I think.
00:05:53Not sure anybody really knows anymore.
00:05:54And that can't fully stop the cross. Ruben Diaz did. Spurs corner.
00:06:03Spurs looking to double their lead before the break.
00:06:06Spurs on top now. 45th minute of the game.
00:06:11Cuddus on the corner.
00:06:12Trafford pushes everybody out of his way.
00:06:18It's going to be a goal kick.
00:06:21There was a feeling in his first Premier League season with Burnley that...
00:06:25James Trafford could be pressured.
00:06:27Two years older and wiser now, but that wasn't very wise.
00:06:29This is Richarlison. A recovery, but Spurs now do double their lead.
00:06:35And Palinja has his first goal for them.
00:06:46Trafford's initial mistake. It looked as though he might have atoned for it at first.
00:06:50It's a rotten pass out.
00:06:53But Spurs stayed so switched on here. Look at Richarlison buzzing around again.
00:06:59He couldn't score.
00:07:01Palinja, via a deflection, certainly could.
00:07:03Manchester City, nil. Tottenham Hotspur, two.
00:07:08Plenty for Ederson's thoughts.
00:07:14Here's Bob.
00:07:16Trying to wander through everybody.
00:07:17Didn't really believe it as he fell himself.
00:07:21He has got a corner though.
00:07:29Short one to Bob.
00:07:31Jerky.
00:07:34Lifting it in for Haaland, but he can't get over it.
00:07:39It's his first chance to net today.
00:07:44Not how they planned their afternoon to go.
00:07:48Manchester City, start the second half with a big job to do.
00:07:52Moose will have to give up the chase for that one though.
00:07:54Haaland's following Vicario. Here is Haaland.
00:08:04But he couldn't play the pass.
00:08:06Jerky trying to make the most of it.
00:08:08And now the whistle goes in Spurs' favour.
00:08:10Spurs' favour.
00:08:15Something jittery about that penalty area.
00:08:19Vicario didn't really help out Van de Ven, but Haaland did not help out Jerky.
00:08:24He then barged into Joao Palinho.
00:08:32Kudos.
00:08:38Pedro Poro, it's a beauty.
00:08:40Richarlison might have done better with it.
00:08:42Really good ball in.
00:08:45And pretty well defended.
00:08:46Rico Lewis doing just enough.
00:08:49Wondering for Charlison.
00:08:51God, he's timing a little bit out.
00:08:52Here's Bob.
00:08:53Bob breaks past the challenger Romero, which has been ruled a foul.
00:09:02Free kick City.
00:09:03So it's going to be Bernardo Silva.
00:09:13Once a goalkeeper, being afforded a little bit of room on his line.
00:09:17Bernardo Silva with the whip.
00:09:19And it's wide.
00:09:21Oh, it looked as though it was a point-blank range chance for Uben Diaz.
00:09:26Oh, it comes off Van de Ven, takes it away from him.
00:09:29Brilliant defending.
00:09:34Dokken.
00:09:36Foden held his run.
00:09:38Won't be able to react in time to beat Romero to the ball.
00:09:42And it has gone behind for a corner.
00:09:53Foden fires it.
00:09:54And it's headed straight at Vicario.
00:09:57First touch for Rodri.
00:09:58Wouldn't that have been a story?
00:09:59Well, that was Manchester City's first effort on target in the second half.
00:10:05And it came with 76 minutes played.
00:10:08Spurs fans regaling their departing hosts with a chant of...
00:10:14Manchester City, it's happened again.
00:10:16Rodri.
00:10:18And he's given that one to Solanke, who's got Odeber with him.
00:10:22Solanke, I think, will take on the shot if he can.
00:10:25He can.
00:10:26Now it's Odeber!
00:10:27And Trafford makes two saves.
00:10:32Manchester City look a tired team, and inevitably they will get hit on the break.
00:10:36Comes back towards Reinders, but Bergbauer will let it go, and it will be thumped forward by Pedro Porro.
00:10:42And what about this?
00:10:44Two wins out of two for Tottenham Hotspur to start the Premier League season for the first time in four years.
00:10:51The Frank era is off and running.
00:10:55City nil, Spurs two.
00:10:57Came in to the club and I saw a strong mentality in the players, a strong togetherness.
00:11:03But a big thing in these games, stay in the game, keep doing what you want to do.
00:11:07And then we just got our foot in the game.
00:11:10And I think the second half were exceptional in many ways.
00:11:14We kept the high pressure, we went up, it was aggressive.
00:11:17And we constantly went for the 3-0 goal, which we unfortunately didn't get.
00:11:21Pressing, harrying, it's all very, very Thomas Frank.
00:11:23How have you taken to his new methods?
00:11:26Yeah, I think as you can see, the boys are trying to get it as much as they can.
00:11:30I think today, even though we got a lot of opportunities from it,
00:11:34I think there's still bits that we can improve, especially in the pressing and the shape.
00:11:38So, yeah, we're loving it at the minute and more to learn and hopefully better things to come.
00:11:44I think we miss the simple things individually and even collectively.
00:11:47It's not blame absolutely, but simple things that pass us, what you have to do, we miss a lot.
00:11:51But I know the physical area they have, we were close in the transition.
00:11:56But we lose simple things, a lot of balls we lose.
00:11:59Is it a win, just a win, or is it a statement win?
00:12:02It's probably one of the better ones.
00:12:04And coming here to Jetiette against Pep City is a very tough task.
00:12:09So a win here is, of course, a top one.
00:12:11It's about taking one game at a time and put as many top performances in this magical moment in and then see where we are.
00:12:18Alan, it was a really good win for Tottenham and a second half performance that Thomas Frank called exceptional.
00:12:26What differences have you seen since he's come in?
00:12:28Well, they've been adaptable, that's for sure.
00:12:31Played a different midfield today than they did last week.
00:12:33Fought the back again.
00:12:35But I could have done analysis on so many good things all over the park for Tottenham.
00:12:41Defensively midfield or even up front, how they made the runs in behind.
00:12:44But it was a midfield masterclass from those three.
00:12:49So Bentinka and Polinja.
00:12:52They pressed, they were aggressive.
00:12:54They invited the short pass so they could do that.
00:12:57Which then, if they're going to play that high, which the centre-halves had to do onto Haaland, Romero did that.
00:13:03And Micah will talk about the two defenders after I've done my bit here.
00:13:07But that's exactly, if they didn't win the first tackle, they won the second tackle.
00:13:12That was a constant all afternoon from those three.
00:13:16And I said last week about them being slightly more direct.
00:13:19This is a great example of it again.
00:13:21That's a long ball into one of your midfielders, who's really high.
00:13:25A brilliant timed run from Michalis.
00:13:28And now you're thinking, can he do the rest of it and put it on a plate for John?
00:13:31So he did exactly that.
00:13:33And that is an excellent goal.
00:13:35Really well worked.
00:13:37And they're actually saying to Manchester City here, play here at your peril.
00:13:40If you don't get it right, the way we are and how aggressive we're going to punish you.
00:13:44And they did.
00:13:46And it was a huge mistake from City to try and play out there when they were at it the way they were.
00:13:52Tackles, blocks.
00:13:53Look about this from Polina again.
00:13:55He could be a fantastic sign-in for Tottenham Hotspur.
00:13:58So many last-ditch tackles.
00:14:01The timing of them were absolutely perfect.
00:14:03Romero, another crunch and tackle.
00:14:06That was a constant all afternoon.
00:14:09And just have a look at there where there's just no way through.
00:14:13And have a look where Sarr comes from here.
00:14:15He started just outside his own 18-yard box.
00:14:18Late in the game, look where he actually ends up.
00:14:21And Johnson should actually play him in here.
00:14:22And he doesn't, you can see the reaction from him when he chooses to shoot.
00:14:27Because where he's come from to where he sort of ended up.
00:14:30And that was typical of Tottenham Hotspur.
00:14:32What a start he's made.
00:14:34And that sort of tells you, those numbers there tell you,
00:14:37how they absolutely dominated that midfield battle today.
00:14:40All three of them were magnificent.
00:14:42It really was. It was great to watch.
00:14:43And, Micah, one of the other differences between last season and this one
00:14:47is that they now have a fit and fully functioning defence.
00:14:50Yeah, I think Van der Ven was injured a lot last season.
00:14:54Romero was excellent today.
00:14:56I want to talk a little bit more about the back four and their distances.
00:14:59I thought they were really exceptional.
00:15:01At times they had to weather the storm, of course.
00:15:03Away at Manchester City is always going to be difficult.
00:15:06But they always knew where they needed to be.
00:15:09You see, Ake's got the ball there.
00:15:10And these positions are absolutely perfect.
00:15:14And as soon as he gets his head up there, they're dropping.
00:15:18And one drops, then the other one comes round if he can't get there.
00:15:23And the goalkeeper, Vicario, is in a really good position.
00:15:27Composure, Poirot, it was excellent.
00:15:30But not only that, Allen showed them being aggressive.
00:15:33Again here, against Haaland, Romero, nice and tight.
00:15:37The next one's my favourite one.
00:15:38In these one-on-one positions here, Spence, he's showing and dictating where he wants Bob to go.
00:15:44Footwork is fantastic.
00:15:46And can he get past him? No.
00:15:48They shut it out.
00:15:50The defence were doing the perfect job.
00:15:53And look at this for a header. We've got a replay on this one.
00:15:56Just from Van der Ven there.
00:15:58Putting his body on the line, which you need to do when you go to the air.
00:16:01Again, Romero talking about breaking a line. Can you break a line?
00:16:05With a pass, get Spurs on the front foot.
00:16:09Allen mentioned defensively, midfield and attack.
00:16:12That was all on their game today.
00:16:14And when they need to do this, they did it in abundance.
00:16:17Not only that, Romero again.
00:16:20Coming out, stepping out. And it was just a perfect performance.
00:16:23Man City had chances.
00:16:25A couple of Haaland probably should have scored.
00:16:27But when they needed to dig deep, they did.
00:16:29And look at this for games.
00:16:31Look at the average goals.
00:16:33I mean, talk about defenders breaking lines to score more.
00:16:35And when Van der Ven and Romero play together, they concede more.
00:16:40They win just a little bit more than double.
00:16:43There's a very exclusive club, a very small club of managers
00:16:48who've managed to beat Pep Guardiola twice with different clubs.
00:16:52And Thomas Frank joins Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
00:16:56Spurs and Daniel Levy in particular get a lot of criticism
00:16:59for some of the decisions that they make.
00:17:00Should we be praising them in this instance for sacking a manager
00:17:03who brought long-awaited silverware and replacing them with Frank?
00:17:07That was a huge call for the football club to make.
00:17:11And they said that at the time it was a really difficult decision.
00:17:14But once they made it, they can't look back.
00:17:16They'd won the trophy and say, OK,
00:17:18they've then got to provide this manager, which they're trying to do.
00:17:21All right, they might have had a slightly disappointing window
00:17:23with one or two turning them down.
00:17:25But I heard Thomas Frank say today,
00:17:27if players don't want to play for us, fine, forget them, we'll move on.
00:17:30And he's made a brilliant start to his Tottenham career.
00:17:32Excellent.
00:17:33It's a good end to what could have been a very difficult week for Tottenham
00:17:36after Arsenal gazumped them to make Eberechi Eze their latest big-money signing.
00:17:41And it was a low-key introduction at his new home.
00:17:45The England forward joins from Crystal Palace in a deal worth £60 million.
00:17:49Steve Wilson wears out the Emirates.
00:17:55At the end of a really good week for Arsenal,
00:17:58Mikel Arteta makes a couple of changes.
00:18:00Ben White's injured, replaced by Durian Timber.
00:18:02And Matt Wake is in for Martinelli.
00:18:0415-year-old Max Darmans on the bench for the first time in a league game.
00:18:09No secret that he is tipped for big things.
00:18:12Ethan Ampadu missing for Leeds with a knee injury.
00:18:15Real blow that. In comes Ilya Gruev.
00:18:17That's the only change from the win over Everton.
00:18:19Noah Okafor, signed this week from AC Milan, is on the bench.
00:18:26Goodmanson's header.
00:18:32Timber just losing out to Mionto,
00:18:34then trying to drag the ball away from the Leeds man.
00:18:37Arsenal had to throw in, quickly taken.
00:18:39Erdegaard is knocked over.
00:18:42Anton Schlaff knew exactly what he was doing there.
00:18:47Schlaff knew that he didn't want Martin Erdegaard
00:18:50advancing towards the edge of the penalty area.
00:18:55Declan Rice to take.
00:19:00Off go the heads.
00:19:02And it's a goal kick to Leeds.
00:19:06Players from both sides wearing black armbands today
00:19:08as a tribute to the former Arsenal board member Richard Carr,
00:19:12who passed away earlier this month.
00:19:18Well, that's dodgy.
00:19:20Oh, it's put wide by Jokeres.
00:19:24Goodness me, Leeds are fortunate.
00:19:27Played to Anton Schlaff by Pascal Straff.
00:19:31And it was straight to Jokeres.
00:19:33I'm not sure he quite realised how much time he had.
00:19:37He seemed to hurry it.
00:19:39James, Bogle's overlap.
00:19:41Calafiore's block.
00:19:43Leeds corner.
00:19:52Bit of taste on that.
00:19:53Good delivery, good save!
00:19:56It's a brilliant contact from Pascal Strauchy.
00:19:58Pascal Strauchy.
00:20:00And very good reactions from David Dreyer.
00:20:03So much pace on the header.
00:20:05Well, he got his hand up quickly and it was a strong hand.
00:20:13I thought it said Spurs, that top it is, is where it...
00:20:16I assume it doesn't.
00:20:17Martin Odegaard down here for Arsenal.
00:20:24He would be at the top of the list of players Arsenal would not want to lose.
00:20:29This is what happened to Odegaard.
00:20:32That was some time ago, but clearly his shoulder is bothering him.
00:20:36The skipper is replaced with 27 minutes played.
00:20:44Or is he?
00:20:45No.
00:20:46He's going to be coming back.
00:20:49Odegaard back on.
00:20:51Unbeaten leads in 11 games in all competitions.
00:20:55But their record here is not great.
00:20:57Madrake, Calafiore, took behind corner kick Arsenal off the head of Ronan.
00:21:08Dettlin Rice with this Arsenal corner kick.
00:21:15Which is Cranston!
00:21:16Durian Timbers got that one.
00:21:20Arsenal and set pieces.
00:21:23Again.
00:21:25Nobody does it better.
00:21:27It's a really good delivery.
00:21:31Just needed a touch.
00:21:33And there was too much pace on it for anyone in blue to react.
00:21:38Well, it does look now as though Odegaard is going to be coming off,
00:21:43which is certainly a disappointment for Arsenal.
00:21:47Eight minutes shy of half-time.
00:21:49Big test for Arsenal at Anfield next week.
00:21:53And Martin Odegaard's participation in it might be in doubt.
00:22:02Zubimendi.
00:22:06Valeri's turn.
00:22:07Gruev, good challenge.
00:22:10Rice rather put him off.
00:22:12That's nicely into Saka.
00:22:14It's 3-0.
00:22:16Great time to score.
00:22:18Added time at the end of the first half.
00:22:21And a really good finish from Saka.
00:22:26Gruev was caught by Rice.
00:22:27That's a lovely weighted ball into Bukayo Saka.
00:22:33From Timber.
00:22:35A glance.
00:22:37And then a stunning finish, really.
00:22:40And Arsenal have a two-goal advantage.
00:22:43Madreke.
00:22:53Jokeres here.
00:22:55Has he tied this run?
00:22:57I think he has.
00:22:58Flag has stayed down for the moment.
00:22:59Jokeres, he's done really well!
00:23:02And puts it in the net.
00:23:04And the flag stays down.
00:23:06That's a huge moment for him.
00:23:08It's a really good goal too.
00:23:11Viktor Jokeres with his first for Arsenal.
00:23:14Just onside.
00:23:16Timed the run really well.
00:23:21And then finished.
00:23:24In fighting style.
00:23:25Well, it's Arsenal 3.
00:23:26It's Leeds 0.
00:23:27But perhaps more importantly.
00:23:28The man on whom.
00:23:29So much hope.
00:23:30Has been hung for Arsenal.
00:23:31Is off and running.
00:23:33Saka.
00:23:35Calafiore.
00:23:37And still.
00:23:39And a good block by Roden.
00:23:40Well, Saka is now down for Arsenal.
00:23:41Well, Havertz last week.
00:23:42Odegaard in the first.
00:23:43Too much hope.
00:23:44Too much hope.
00:23:45Has been hung for Arsenal.
00:23:46He's off and running.
00:23:48Saka.
00:23:49Calafiore.
00:23:51And still.
00:23:52And a good block by Roden.
00:23:54And still.
00:23:55And a good block by Roden.
00:23:56Well, Saka is now down for Arsenal.
00:24:03Well, Havertz last week.
00:24:09Odegaard in the first 45 minutes.
00:24:11And now Saka.
00:24:16Well, if that is his left hamstring.
00:24:21Saka won't be playing at Anfield next week.
00:24:26Not so dispossessed.
00:24:40Ranieri.
00:24:42Deflected away for a corner.
00:24:44Nice with the corner kick.
00:24:45On the button again.
00:24:46Can they force it out of the line?
00:24:47They can.
00:24:48Timber's done it again.
00:24:49Well, it was tumbling around like it was in a cement mixer.
00:24:51Suspicion of handball.
00:24:52Maybe by Saliba.
00:24:53It's been looked at.
00:24:54And it is.
00:24:55It is.
00:24:56It is.
00:24:57It is.
00:24:58It is.
00:24:59It is.
00:25:00It is.
00:25:01It is.
00:25:024-0.
00:25:03The goal stands.
00:25:04And here.
00:25:05Come the changes.
00:25:06And here.
00:25:07Come the changes.
00:25:08And here.
00:25:09It is.
00:25:10It is.
00:25:114-0.
00:25:12The goal stands.
00:25:13And here.
00:25:14Come the changes.
00:25:15And here.
00:25:16Come the changes.
00:25:17And here comes Max Dowman.
00:25:1815-year-old Max Dowman.
00:25:19Big part of Arsenal's pre-season.
00:25:20His senior debut comes.
00:25:21It is.
00:25:22It is.
00:25:23It is.
00:25:24It is.
00:25:25It is.
00:25:26It is.
00:25:27It is.
00:25:28It is.
00:25:29It is.
00:25:30It is.
00:25:31It is.
00:25:32It is.
00:25:3414-year-old Max Dowman.
00:25:37Big part of Arsenal's pre-season.
00:25:38His senior debut comes.
00:25:40and
00:25:54Downey.
00:25:58Free-kick is given.
00:25:59Goldbergcrif Tube-manson is unhappy about that.
00:26:01is unhappy about that but he did seem to fall on Max Dowman
00:26:04well the Emirates were on the edge of their seats thinking they were about to celebrate a bit of
00:26:22Premier League history here when Max Dowman hit that would have made him comfortably the youngest
00:26:28ever Premier League goalscorer beating a record set 20 years ago by James Vaughan in April 2005 when
00:26:36he scored against Crystal Palace at the age of 16 years 270 days Warnieri, Dowman, Oskar is flying
00:26:48forward, Dowman here and the referee Jared Gillett is giving that, it's a penalty to Arsenal
00:26:56Anton Stavk on Max Dowman
00:27:02yeah he's just caught his left toe, Stavk, it's that touch there
00:27:135-0
00:27:23and 2 for Jokeres
00:27:272 goals for Jokeres, 2 goals for Timber
00:27:322 injuries for Arsenal
00:27:35Odegaard and Saka
00:27:37not quite a perfect day
00:27:43exactly how we wanted to start the first game at home in the league start to create that confidence that feeling of
00:27:51of domination at home the atmosphere was electric from the beginning
00:27:55last season there were too many games where you couldn't play Odegaard and Saka and both have picked up injuries today
00:28:02yes we already missed Kai this week or last week and then those two with Martin looks like a shoulder injury we don't know the extent of that and Bukayo while he was running and wrestling with the defender he
00:28:13felt something in his hamstring so we'll have to wait and see but quite concerned about that
00:28:18people often talk about the difference between the championship and the premier league being maybe the quality of the finishing and they scored from every shot and target they had today
00:28:27yes sums it up as well I can't really remember many saves of Lucas Perry today so five shots on target five goals of course we're disappointed with the outcome that we don't travel away with points or tighter result but we knew that these things can happen if you want to play on the top level and this is not a season-defining game for us
00:28:35many highlights Victor scoring his first two goals for the club
00:28:39during a long term injury scoring two goals Moscow having his debut for the club and of course probably one of the highlights of the day the debut of Max as 15 and then the impact I had on the game as well so
00:28:50in general a super positive afternoon except of the two injuries that we picked with Martin and Bukayo
00:28:56Well let's start with Jocheres first because you more than anyone Alan will know how important it is for him to open his account to get those first two goals but are there also signs of the first two goals
00:29:04Yeah and understandably so there were some good signs but there were some good signs but there's also that it still needs working on and you can you get that because he's still getting used to his teammates his teammates are still getting used to his teammates
00:29:22his teammates are still getting used to him you can't not ask Bukayo Saka not to go past players because he's brilliant at it but once you get into that position when you've got a forward who's used to having balls into the box sometimes the ball has to go in rather than back but they've been playing that way for such a long time now
00:29:50for such a long time now it is going to take time there's no doubt this he just gets his position all wrong he should take a touch with the left foot and then he'll have a simple tap in he just snatches at it for some reason
00:30:02but also again Calafiori here I think if he makes a run in between the two defenders then I think that's what Calafiori needs is that option to do that he doesn't
00:30:12okay that will come also then nothing comes of of that situation again and Zubimendi here once he gets the ball back look he's looking for an option I think he can ping that ball into him there
00:30:24because he can pin the defender and then spin to his left hand side and have a public goal you can see the reaction of Zubimendi because he's putting his arms up and wanting options
00:30:32this time from the left hand side Madoweki that ball can go in when you've got a forward who wants balls into the box you've sometimes got to do it he takes a touch touch another touch and another touch and eventually look what happens
00:30:44no ball into the box you sometimes have to do that centre forwards need to be fed and he's a goal scorer
00:30:50now 90 seconds in to the second half I'm sure the manager said something at half time Arteta first time balls when you've got someone who can run like he can and you play a high line you have to play sometimes an early ball and he's off and running he gets his goal all because of that first time ball and that running behind great to see him step up and take the penalty with such confidence but it is going to take time for him to understand and for the players also he's playing with to know when
00:31:19when and how to put the ball in for him because they haven't always done that in recent years and you'd imagine that that weighs quite heavily in terms of his numbers for the game that second half performance
00:31:30I know what it's like for a centre forward you're desperate to get off to a good start so for him it not quite happening for him last week but getting actually two goals today he'll sleep a lot better tonight that's for sure
00:31:41quick question can you try too hard at times as a forward and then the basic things that normally come to you trying to out so yeah because you want it you want to impress when people are talking about you the transfer fees huge everyone knows what Arsenal have needed for such a long time there's pressure on him so yeah you can do that but I there's certainly signs there but they have to get used to each other and it might take time
00:32:03we asked Alan about the striker so we've got to ask you about the 15 year old who burst out of the scene
00:32:08Oh ok!
00:32:09in Max Gaumann
00:32:1015 years of age wow what a Premier League debut and not necessarily because he scored and assisted but just how positive he was for someone who's at 15 to be doing this sort of thing and having the confidence just to take on a really good fullback in Goodmanson and his direction the way he goes
00:32:32one way and the other at such pace he runs faster with the ball and without the ball got overexcited see these moment there and then he gets the penalty but couple of stats so he played for Arsenal under 18 at 13 youngest player to score anyway for under 19's competition as well he come through the youth I think he was 7 or 8 at the time but to be doing this on the biggest day is just incredible
00:33:01and look at this premise well I'm just looking for my name there don't know
00:33:06you're not on the list you're not on the list I think you are Micah
00:33:09I didn't make the list
00:33:10didn't burst onto the scene quite so much did you?
00:33:13next time
00:33:14next time but is there a sort of other side for Arsenal in terms of the injuries that they've been suffering because it's another hamstring injury for Saka it looks like Odegaard's a shoulder injury which is a contact injury but it just seems as though
00:33:30they take the gloss off a really good day for them they were really impressive in terms of getting the goals the confidence and the belief it will give them but that will certainly put the damper on the day
00:33:39but at least now they've got the squad to cope with it previous season they haven't but I think they have now
00:33:44it's been a difficult time for Arsenal in terms of those injuries
00:33:48two newly promoted sides next though as Burnley welcomes Sunderland to Turf Moor your commentator Steve Bauer
00:33:55Burnley begin their life at Turf Moor back in the big time in a fixture they will have circled as one to get something from early on
00:34:05Scott Parker gives a full Clarence debut to Leslie Ugochukwu after his summer move from Chelsea there's also a start for Jakob Brun Larsson
00:34:14Sunderland haven't won their opening two games of a top flight season for 45 years
00:34:21Wembley hero Mayenda who scored their first goal back in the Premier League against West Ham leads the line once again
00:34:27Isidor is on the bench he had two penalties saved here in the championship last season
00:34:41excellent covering from Ugochukwu but the foul on Odingre had already been committed
00:34:47floated in by the skipper Xhaka Ballard is the target he won it and Dubravka was required
00:35:01but that was a big chance for Mayenda
00:35:05Sunderland's threat from a set play evidence again
00:35:09watch Dan Ballard totally unopposed
00:35:12and Mayenda will be a little frustrated he didn't get a better cleaner contact on that
00:35:18because that's a big chance
00:35:21Ballard has stayed down
00:35:23but it was his free header that caused the issue there
00:35:26great chance to score the opening goal for the second weekend running
00:35:29and then you can see on the left of your picture there
00:35:32Ballard pulled up and that is why there's obvious concern
00:35:35so Jenson see out the Dutchman
00:35:38is on to partner
00:35:39Alderete in another new partnership at the back
00:35:45what a start he and his team had last weekend
00:35:48can they make it two out of two today
00:35:53loose touch from Kyle Walker
00:35:54Odingre
00:35:55on goes Talbi or Dubravka was committed and got away with it
00:36:06because the Moroccan could have easily given Sunderland the lead there
00:36:11first from the error from Walker
00:36:14watch Talbi burst through here unopposed
00:36:19and Dubravka made a very early decision he was never getting there
00:36:23and the channel from Cullen
00:36:30oh there's no foul
00:36:33oh there's no foul
00:36:34and there's the Burnley lead
00:36:37from Lyle Foster
00:36:44well he didn't give it up
00:36:46and it was a substitute Jenson Seal
00:36:49who hesitated for Sunderland
00:36:51it is of course being checked by John Brooks in VAR
00:36:57and he is going to rule this goal out
00:37:00John Brooks says the defender clearly has full possession
00:37:04of the ball and his foul from behind
00:37:07that is open to interpretation shall we say
00:37:09and that has added further spice to the fixture
00:37:24Dhingra has been shown the first yellow card
00:37:27and in fact after an incident with Hannibal
00:37:30this yellow is being checked for a red
00:37:33watch a Dhingra here
00:37:35does he raise his hand?
00:37:36well he does and catch Hannibal in the face
00:37:40it stays as a yellow card
00:37:43with determination a petulant act
00:37:47Hartman
00:37:53Stroke to Brun Larsson
00:37:57in from Hannibal
00:37:59and the header from Anthony
00:38:02is off target
00:38:03very last touch of the first half
00:38:07a rare sight of goal for Burnley
00:38:10for Jadon Anthony
00:38:12oh and he should be doing better
00:38:14here we've got Ciocco
00:38:16again that's behind his teammates
00:38:18Hartman
00:38:19is there a shooting opportunity?
00:38:20here we've got Ciocco
00:38:25again that's behind his teammates
00:38:29Hartman
00:38:33is there a shooting opportunity?
00:38:35here there is!
00:38:37Josh Cullen the captain
00:38:38less than two minutes into the second half
00:38:44with Burnley's first goal back in the big time
00:38:50to give them the lead
00:38:52it's his third career Premier League goal
00:38:56lovely little touch into him from Anthony and he guided that into the bottom corner
00:39:02now this is being checked for a possible offside in the build-up
00:39:06and John Brooks has confirmed the on-field decision of goal
00:39:12and Burnley leads Sunderland by a goal to nil
00:39:15well
00:39:19Burnley trying to turn their floodlights on but
00:39:22having some issues
00:39:24they've lit up the second half so far though on the pitch that's the main thing
00:39:29by taking the lead
00:39:32in all seriousness
00:39:34this will interrupt Burnley's flow because their tails are up
00:39:37they're in front and they've just got a bit of a rhythm at the moment
00:39:40I think the solution of turning them off
00:39:45can result in the resumption of the game
00:39:52Dubravka
00:39:54very nervously clearing that
00:40:00Xhaka
00:40:03Guillaume
00:40:05and again
00:40:06Goal kick
00:40:10the 19-year-old
00:40:13began at Barcelona
00:40:15couldn't find the target through the bodies
00:40:19Excellent work from Walker
00:40:28Chowna
00:40:30early from Cullen towards Anthony
00:40:32now then
00:40:33can he seal it here
00:40:35it's still Anthony
00:40:36oh he can
00:40:42Jade and Anthony
00:40:44take centre stage
00:40:46and Burnley edge closer
00:40:49to their first win back in the big time
00:40:54listen to this at Turfmoor
00:40:56this is what they've worked for
00:41:01this is what they've dreamt of
00:41:03winning again
00:41:06in the Premier League
00:41:10and it's one the majority of Turfmoor really enjoyed
00:41:14Burnley 2
00:41:16Sunderland 0
00:41:17Flemming almost onto that
00:41:23Chowna was
00:41:25it almost got better
00:41:28on his home debut
00:41:31the man they paid £12 million for from Lazio in the summer
00:41:34trying to curl that in
00:41:35he wasn't too far away from doing so
00:41:37it's good to be back home
00:41:43Burnley back in the top flight at Turfmoor
00:41:48with a huge win
00:41:51and the clean sheet to boot
00:41:53and it is back down to earth after last weekend for Sunderland
00:41:59big three points for Burnley
00:42:02Burnley 2 Sunderland 0
00:42:03Sunderland 0
00:42:07We were very good today
00:42:08I think we were well worthy of what we produced
00:42:11and certainly how we played
00:42:13I liked us, we had real good structure
00:42:15we need to make this place exactly like it was today
00:42:18very difficult, our home stadium is going to be vitally important for us
00:42:21and the fans are going to play a massive, massive part in that
00:42:24and I think altogether in terms of players
00:42:27everyone involved, fans as well
00:42:29we were well worthy of the result today
00:42:30a bit disappointed because we lost
00:42:33I think it's the first point of the afternoon
00:42:36I think we started well
00:42:38our first half was good
00:42:40we created two big chances
00:42:42we didn't score
00:42:44and I think in this game it was really important
00:42:46the first goal because it changed just everything
00:42:50they dropped into back 5, 4-1, deep block
00:42:54and we struggled
00:42:56we know there's not many teams in the world
00:42:57that can have the ball and dominate the game all the time
00:43:00so when you don't have it you have to be solid
00:43:02you have to dig in and wait for our moments
00:43:04and thankfully second half we managed to get two goals
00:43:07and that's all that matters
00:43:09With the second goal I make them runs a thousand times a game
00:43:12and to be fair to Josh, he always plays them and always looks
00:43:14so I knew once the space was there to make that run
00:43:17and then it was about staying composed
00:43:19and luckily it went in
00:43:20well Josh Cullen we heard from there
00:43:23got the opening goal
00:43:25what did you make of his all-round performance Alan?
00:43:27Well he's been around the block, he knows what it's about
00:43:29and he's going to need that experience all the time to be honest
00:43:34I mean he was one of the better players last weekend
00:43:36and he certainly stood out today
00:43:38in everything he did whether it was showing a great example
00:43:41great attitude, closing down, chasing lost causes
00:43:44he was at the heart of everything that Burnley did well today
00:43:48covering in the right position
00:43:50using all of that experience and know-how
00:43:53to get in tackles like that
00:43:55but his goal was fantastic
00:43:57and this was the moment that they needed
00:43:59a great little flick there from Anthony
00:44:01and the way he just guides it into the corner
00:44:04it was such a clever finish
00:44:06and little flicks and tricks and what have you, why not
00:44:09you seem to enjoy it particularly in that second half
00:44:12Sunderland missed a big chance early in the game
00:44:15and they got punished for that
00:44:17but just look where he's scanning here already
00:44:19he knows exactly where Anthony is
00:44:21and what ball he wants to play
00:44:23and he hits it perfection
00:44:25and it's just whether Anthony can go around the keeper
00:44:27and finish it off and he certainly did that impressively
00:44:29and it was a really impressive performance from Burnley
00:44:32they had to win, they knew that I think
00:44:34even though it was early on in the game
00:44:36and when they had to protect and sit deep
00:44:38it was him again that was getting those vital tackles
00:44:39and you can see what it means to him and to Burnley
00:44:43and to his manager Scott Parker
00:44:45so it was a really, really impressive performance
00:44:47and they weren't beaten there last season at home
00:44:49and that, like the other two teams that were promoted
00:44:52their home form is going to be key to whether they can stay in this league or not
00:44:55because as everyone will know over the last two seasons, Micah, the teams that have been promoted have been relegated straight back to the championship
00:45:03home form is always important but can it make the difference this season?
00:45:08Can it buck that train?
00:45:09I think it can, I think because the teams are adapting, they're not all trying to play a certain style of play
00:45:16I think Sunderland in the first game mixed up a little bit
00:45:19you know, Leeds, Ellen Road is always going to be frantic
00:45:22but Burnley today, there was a lot of pressure going into that game and it's how they were going to deal with it
00:45:27yes, they conceded it a few chances but they dug deep and they got the result in the end
00:45:32and it's just, they have to make sure the home form is good enough
00:45:36that is what will keep these teams in the league
00:45:38We saw Leeds, that performance today from Leeds, we won't determine whether they stay up
00:45:43their home form, like Burnley's, like Sunderland, because of the atmosphere that those stadiums generate
00:45:48that's going to be key to whether they can stay up or not
00:45:50But maybe after a win for each of them, they can be a little bit more hopeful
00:45:52we'll talk West Ham and Graham Potter a bit later

00:46:44The Football Interview follows us tonight on BBC1
00:46:47Kelly Summers is in conversation with Mark Gahey, currently of Crystal Palace
00:46:51Brentford's GTEC Community Stadium saw 75 goals in the Premier League last season, the most of any venue
00:46:59Visitors Aston Villa, however, failed to find the net on the opening weekend
00:47:03Commentary comes from Mark Scott
00:47:05While neither side would have been happy with their start to the season, Brentford's flop at Forest was certainly the more concerning performance
00:47:12And one described as naïve by new boss Keith Andrews
00:47:17He's able to bring in key man Mikel Damsgaard today
00:47:20There's also a debut for club record signing Dongo Watara
00:47:24And a first start for Jordan Henderson
00:47:26While Kevin Sharder also comes in
00:47:28Johan Wisser is once again left out of the squad
00:47:31Emi Martinez is back for Villa after a ban
00:47:33But Esri Cox is missing due to suspension following his red against Newcastle
00:47:39How Torres takes his place
00:47:44Cash feeding McGinn
00:47:46And there's a bit of room here for Morgan Rogers
00:47:50He's done well
00:47:52And he's got plenty of options up there with him
00:47:54In front of those was Luca Dinho and he really should have found him
00:47:58Brentford find a bit of room themselves now, Damsgaard on the charge
00:48:01Coyote
00:48:07Just a bit off a bit more than he could chew, Damsgaard recycles
00:48:10Now it's Sharder
00:48:12Damsgaard
00:48:15Brilliant, Damsgaard!
00:48:19That's what they've been missing
00:48:21Wasn't available last weekend, Mikel Damsgaard
00:48:25Lidane dancing his way past a couple of challenges
00:48:27But then unable to get enough bend on the final effort
00:48:34Well Johan Wisser has trained with the team all week
00:48:37Keith Andrews says given the current situation
00:48:39The only right thing to do was leave him out altogether today
00:48:42Clever flick that, and Wattara's got the pace to get there
00:48:48It's Dongo Wattara!
00:48:50Big block by Martinez
00:48:52Wattara's there though!
00:48:55Debut goal for Dongo Wattara!
00:48:58Just what Brentford needed
00:49:04After the horror start to the game at Forest
00:49:07They're off to a flyer this afternoon
00:49:10Thiago with the clever flick
00:49:14And then Wattara absolutely sped away
00:49:16Desperate lunge from Torres, couldn't catch him
00:49:20Martinez blocked the initial effort
00:49:23But the new boy was quickest to react to the rebound
00:49:27And Brentford off to a quick start
00:49:30Brentford 1, Aston Villa 0
00:49:32Aston Villa 0
00:49:35They had a supermodel under Thomas Frank
00:49:37But a new season
00:49:39Has brought a new style
00:49:41Looking good so far
00:49:45Trying to slide it through to Guendia
00:49:46Anticipated well by Shada
00:49:48Igor Thiago turning into trouble
00:49:52Villa now come forwards with Cash
00:49:53That will be a Villa corner
00:50:12That was Horace, Tielemans!
00:50:14Shada in the right place for Brentford
00:50:17That was travelling from Jiri Tielemans
00:50:20He picked his spot all right
00:50:24And Shada intervenes
00:50:29Short to Tielemans
00:50:33And McGinn!
00:50:35Unconventional from Kelleher
00:50:36But it did the job
00:50:39One new signing has opened the scoring
00:50:41For Brentford
00:50:43And one of their summer arrivals
00:50:45Has kept them in front here
00:50:47As Kelleher reacted with his feet
00:50:50And one of their chances
00:50:52And two, three, three, four
00:50:54And Thielomans has lost it
00:50:55Hwatara
00:50:56Can't make the most of it
00:51:08Here it comes from Kayode
00:51:10Martinez has gone for it
00:51:12And hasn't got there
00:51:14And Dansgaard
00:51:15He's rifled in to double Brentford's lead.
00:51:21Dam's guard's delight is short-lived
00:51:24because Tony Harrington has disallowed the goal.
00:51:29They will check whether the referee's call of foul was correct,
00:51:33and they have done.
00:51:36Emi Martinez was impeded by Collins,
00:51:39and that means that this brilliant hit from Dam's guard
00:51:46is not going to count.
00:51:51Cash.
00:51:54It's on the kid.
00:51:56He's managed to smuggle it through here for Emi Buendia.
00:51:59Rodgers screaming for it.
00:52:00Buendia has found him.
00:52:02Morgan Rodgers!
00:52:04That is a terrific piece of defending from Michael Coyote.
00:52:10Buendia feeding Rodgers,
00:52:12who teed himself up for the hit,
00:52:14but as he pulled the trigger,
00:52:15he found Coyote flinging himself in the way.
00:52:21Thomas Tuchel was at West Ham on Friday
00:52:24and has come to West London
00:52:25for a look at some of his potential squad this afternoon.
00:52:32Tielemans.
00:52:33Rodgers.
00:52:35Rolled on for Buendia.
00:52:38He's going to have a go!
00:52:39Well, it was positive and direct from Emi Buendia,
00:52:44but the radar just not quite working
00:52:47for Emi Buendia at the end of it.
00:52:52Villa look more dangerous in the early stages of the second half
00:52:55than they did across the entirety of the first period.
00:53:03That's a careless clearance.
00:53:07Collins heads in the direction of Coyote,
00:53:10who loops it up to Tamsgaard.
00:53:11Taro should get there.
00:53:16And now it's Kevin Shada through here for Igor Thiago.
00:53:21Lovely suffice from Brentford.
00:53:23Flying down the right flank before switching it across to the left.
00:53:28Igor Thiago's onside, but Emi Martinez anticipated well.
00:53:32Keith Andrews is up and running as Brentford boss.
00:53:42His first home game in charge ends in victory over a blunt Aston Villa,
00:53:48who draw another blank.
00:53:51Brentford one, Aston Villa nil.
00:53:53I think identity of a team is really, really important.
00:53:57I think you could see that today without the ball.
00:54:00And it was scrappy, it was ugly at times.
00:54:04And I loved it.
00:54:05I absolutely loved it.
00:54:06The way we made the game into a game that they didn't want.
00:54:10And I just thought the desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net
00:54:13and to do that for the team today,
00:54:15selfless work from so many players, was so impressive.
00:54:17I thought from start to finish, the lads give everything, to be fair.
00:54:22Of course, it's going to be difficult against Villa.
00:54:24They've got top players.
00:54:25They're a very good team.
00:54:27So there was always going to be difficult moments,
00:54:29but I felt like we stuck together right until the very end
00:54:32and, yeah, defended very well.
00:54:34Nice to be back.
00:54:36Like I've said, Premier League, best league in the world.
00:54:39So to be back in, it felt good.
00:54:40Conceding one goal, always it's difficult to come back.
00:54:43Of course, after it, we reacted well and we were dominating,
00:54:47we were cutting chances.
00:54:49We had corners, we had a lot of crosses
00:54:51and we had more or less chances to score one goal,
00:54:55but we didn't score.
00:54:57Well, Brentford lost some really important players over the summer.
00:55:00So how instrumental now is Mikael Damsgaard?
00:55:03He's so instrumental in terms of what he can offer this team.
00:55:06He's absolutely excellent, Kelly.
00:55:08I think in terms of his positioning and where he's receiving the ball,
00:55:14yeah, he can play in number 10, he can play wide,
00:55:16but it was his patience I was most impressed with today and his timing.
00:55:21And then knowing when to back up his teammates
00:55:23and then once he gets in there, can he produce something special?
00:55:26Quick feet and then shot wide.
00:55:30But it's also the position I was talking about,
00:55:33defensive role, you know, knowing exactly where to be,
00:55:36anticipating the ball, where the ball's going to be
00:55:38and then doing the work for his team.
00:55:40And look where he starts here.
00:55:42You know, all his good play today for me was in, you know, forward positions.
00:55:46But when you've got players who are willing to do that for the team,
00:55:49it helps you so much.
00:55:52He gets his goal, it was disallowed for a foul,
00:55:55Joel Collins there, but then look at the technique he had.
00:55:58I watched him a lot when he was in Sampdora
00:55:59and he come as sort of a big player
00:56:02and it didn't happen for him at the start.
00:56:04But last season, I thought he was excellent.
00:56:06His awareness, his vision, gets in a pocket of space,
00:56:09lovely little pass.
00:56:11And then in the end, he could have got an assist.
00:56:13It was just offside,
00:56:14but I kept it in just because of his vision and his work rate.
00:56:18And today, he was the best player on the pitch.
00:56:22And you just look at the stats there.
00:56:24His first part from Jules won,
00:56:27but it was a really magnificent performance from him.
00:56:30Yeah, doing everything in that game, Mikel Damsgaard.
00:56:32As for Aston Villa,
00:56:33they haven't scored in their opening two games, Alan.
00:56:36What can they do, given the PSR restrictions that they have?
00:56:40Well, they haven't,
00:56:41but I mean, I guess they can try and get players in on loan.
00:56:44I've said to you before,
00:56:45the PSR situation doesn't sit well with me
00:56:48in terms of what they can and can't spend.
00:56:51I mean, Emery's had six transfer windows
00:56:53and they've made a profit of £10 million, Aston Villa.
00:56:57So in terms of obviously their salaries are hampering also
00:57:00because I don't think PSR was brought in
00:57:03for this situation for Aston Villa
00:57:04when they've clearly got an owner who's got the money.
00:57:07Same with Newcastle as well.
00:57:09So it's a really difficult situation for them to be in.
00:57:11They look blunt today,
00:57:13so they need a little bit of help in those positions.
00:57:1517 shots today, but only two on target.
00:57:17A little bit of freshness, don't they?
00:57:18Yeah.
00:57:19I just feel with Villa,
00:57:20all the hard work they've put in over the years,
00:57:22I was in a team that got relegated.
00:57:24So to see the transformation to now,
00:57:26getting into the Champions League,
00:57:27but they can't buy any players,
00:57:29which is ridiculous having to sell Academy products as well.
00:57:32It's just, it's not sitting right.
00:57:35No, and they've dipped into the loan market with some success,
00:57:38but that may well be another route out for them.
00:57:40Potentially, Nicholas Jackson,
00:57:42who's been linked with a move to Aston Villa.
00:57:45Bournemouth were hoping to get their season up
00:57:48and running in their first home game.
00:57:50Visitors' Wolves have never lost there in the Premier League.
00:57:53Jonathan Pearce was at the Vitality Stadium.
00:57:55Form of run change, Antoine Semenya says prison sentences
00:58:02could be used for those convicted of racial abuse
00:58:04after he was appallingly abused at Anfield last weekend.
00:58:08Today, he looks to become the first African player
00:58:10to score two or more goals in three games running
00:58:12since Papis Cisse in 2012.
00:58:15Petrovic, Giacchiti and Trooper make their home debuts.
00:58:18£15 million July signing.
00:58:21John Arias gets his first wall start
00:58:23after a cameo from the bench last weekend against Manchester City
00:58:27with Andre dropping to the subs.
00:58:29That's their only change.
00:58:31Since the start of May,
00:58:32they picked up fewer points than any of last season's top flight sides.
00:58:36Chachua's sign this week is among the subs.
00:58:42Walls early on against Manchester City
00:58:44weren't bad, then they fell apart.
00:58:47Bournemouth weren't bad at all up at Liverpool.
00:58:51They were maybe a little bit unfortunate
00:58:52to be beaten in the way they were.
00:58:55Stumble there at the back.
00:59:05Coming through to Brooks.
00:59:08Over from David Brooks,
00:59:10who hasn't scored since January.
00:59:12Bournemouth have won just three of their last four.
00:59:1415 Premier League matches.
00:59:16They've lost three of their last four.
00:59:19Here's a chance for Walls right from the start here
00:59:21through the middle.
00:59:22And it's Munezzi over the bar.
00:59:26Walls travelled a long way
00:59:27direct from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
00:59:34Belgaard lost possession.
00:59:41Head out here to Belgaard.
00:59:43He's in a very difficult position.
00:59:44Semenya
00:59:45cuts it to his left-hand side.
00:59:48Tabernier back across the six-yard area.
00:59:51And he went in off Agpadu, I think.
00:59:55Bournemouth lead.
01:00:00Belgaard played into trouble.
01:00:02It's a gift for Bournemouth, this really.
01:00:04Semenya held it up.
01:00:05Then released to Tabernier.
01:00:07And Agpadu got his feet all wrong.
01:00:16Only a free kick given.
01:00:17The other goal went to ground.
01:00:18Too easy under pressure from Adam Smith.
01:00:22He's on that far side.
01:00:23Made a lot of room to get over there, Adam Smith.
01:00:26The cross comes in to Semenya off the other side of the bar.
01:00:30So, nearly 2-0.
01:00:32Again, good football by Bournemouth.
01:00:36Semenya should have scored, really.
01:00:38Woodwork saves Walls.
01:00:39Strand-Larsen coming infield.
01:00:45Couldn't get there, but Brooks has given it back to Walls.
01:00:49Rias finds Herber.
01:00:51This is promising for Wallhunter.
01:00:52Strand-Larsen, good save.
01:00:55Because he got down very quickly there, Georgi Petrovic.
01:00:58But not only that,
01:00:59there was strength in his hands
01:01:01as he pushed the ball away from the danger area.
01:01:03Good move by Walls, though.
01:01:04They're best of the game.
01:01:05And he's Chachua.
01:01:11Strand-Larsen and Arias ahead of him.
01:01:14And Arias leapt for it.
01:01:15Here's Hugo Bueno, his first touch in the game.
01:01:19And Aishar Gomez.
01:01:21Truffaut got it away for Bournemouth.
01:01:22He's been steady.
01:01:23And he's home debut.
01:01:27Gomez.
01:01:28Point ball to Hugo Bueno.
01:01:30Ooh, it's just wide.
01:01:32Arias arrived in a good position from the deep run.
01:01:35And that's Walls' best chance, I think,
01:01:39since the early-shun Larsen header.
01:01:42He needed to hit the target there.
01:01:49And here's Brooks.
01:01:51Walls not making best use of that pass.
01:01:52A lovely ball by Brooks on the other hand.
01:01:54Evan Nielsen, is he pushed down by Totti?
01:01:57If he was, he's in trouble.
01:01:59Denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.
01:02:00See the referee look to a flag.
01:02:03He pulls out a red card.
01:02:04And the Walls' captain is off.
01:02:08It's a lovely pass here by David Brooks.
01:02:11One of the best passes of the game.
01:02:12Evan Nielsen threw in on goal.
01:02:15And there's the push.
01:02:16Sends him to the ground.
01:02:19Clear denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.
01:02:21And the red card produced.
01:02:22And Walls are down to ten men.
01:02:23Here's Smith.
01:02:30There's Brooks White.
01:02:32Look through Evan Nielsen in the middle.
01:02:34Oh, he's taken away from his teammate Semenya over.
01:02:38With a touch by Evan Nielsen,
01:02:40took it away from Tavernier,
01:02:41who'd made a great run in behind him.
01:02:43It's a lovely ball in, mind you.
01:02:46Semenya could have had two or three today.
01:02:48Here's Christy.
01:02:55Astute player.
01:02:56We know that about him.
01:02:56It's a good ball to Semenya.
01:03:02Lovely ball to a class from Christy.
01:03:05He only hit it first time.
01:03:08It's a little bit too close for comfort,
01:03:10this for Andoni Erola.
01:03:13Here's Diakute.
01:03:14New Adley.
01:03:19Power glove that.
01:03:24Cross deflected on through.
01:03:25Evan Nielsen releases.
01:03:27Oh, it's a brilliant effort from Adams.
01:03:29And a super, super save from Sarr.
01:03:34One of the best moments in the game we've had.
01:03:37Promising run from Adley.
01:03:38A little bit of fortune about the cross,
01:03:39but Evan Nielsen held it up well.
01:03:41Then the release.
01:03:42It's going in.
01:03:43And Jose Sarr pulled off the save of the game so far.
01:03:58Choufard to Semenya.
01:04:00Choufard continuing the run.
01:04:02I haven't made himself available.
01:04:04It's gone back by André.
01:04:05It's a good win for us.
01:04:26You always want to win the first game at home.
01:04:28Especially after losing the first one the other day against Liverpool.
01:04:31And I think we were dealing very well with the game.
01:04:35First half, even second half.
01:04:36And then when they received the red card,
01:04:39you are in a position where you have to score the second one.
01:04:42If you don't score, they were not really creating chances.
01:04:44But you are uncomfortable.
01:04:46You are uncomfortable.
01:04:47I think we defended well.
01:04:47But I think we missed situations that we should have scored the second one.
01:04:53My respect to the decision was a pity.
01:04:56Because I think we started the second half creating...
01:05:00We did some changes and we created some problems.
01:05:05And it was a pity because in the end, with ten, it was difficult.
01:05:12Results bring confidence to you.
01:05:14The confidence when you have a chance to score.
01:05:16The only way is to work and work and work.
01:05:19And try to improve the players.
01:05:22To give confidence to them.
01:05:24To correct the mistakes.
01:05:26And keep going.
01:05:28Well, the red card effectively ended the game as a contest for Wolves.
01:05:31While deserved.
01:05:32But as for Bournemouth, we saw an excellent performance for them last week against Liverpool.
01:05:36How did they get on today?
01:05:37Well, I think the polite thing to say about today's game is it wasn't very good.
01:05:41Having said that, Bournemouth did deserve to win the game.
01:05:43And certainly on the number of chances created that they should have won by more.
01:05:48And Semenyo had one of those days.
01:05:49He got a couple of goals last week.
01:05:51But it just wasn't to be his day-to-day.
01:05:53Albeit, he'll get the assist for Tavernier.
01:05:57There takes a huge deflection, though.
01:06:00But Semenyo will get the assist.
01:06:03And that was enough to give them the three points.
01:06:05And there wasn't a lot.
01:06:06Kim, back from Wolves after that.
01:06:08As you said, there was also a red card which ended their chance of getting anything.
01:06:12But they did create.
01:06:14And this is...
01:06:14I mean, that should be in the back of the net.
01:06:18He should score.
01:06:19There's no doubt about it.
01:06:20A bit of a difficult technique.
01:06:21A similar technique here, actually, where it's on the half-volley again.
01:06:25This time he skies it over.
01:06:28A good ball in behind again.
01:06:30And it's that man again.
01:06:31He just can't get the connection.
01:06:32He wants to bring it back.
01:06:33But it doesn't matter how they play.
01:06:34They get the three points and they move on.
01:06:36He's dangerous, Semenyo, though, isn't he?
01:06:37Good player, yeah.
01:06:38I think even though you look at the chances that he's missed there, he's in the right positions, knows where to be.
01:06:42It was just an execution that wasn't on...
01:06:45I think, as you said it, after their performance at Liverpool, they were a tad unlucky, I guess.
01:06:49But then going into today's game, they'll see it as a big opportunity to pick up the points.
01:06:53So they have.
01:06:53So they'll do that and move on.
01:06:55To Friday night's game.
01:06:57It was a London derby between West Ham and Chelsea.
01:06:59Connor McNamara was there.
01:07:01Just one change for Graham Potter from the defeated Sunderland.
01:07:07Thomas Suchek returns to the midfield in place of Yido Rodriguez, who drops to the bench.
01:07:13Enzo Mareska makes four changes for the Chelsea team that started their home draw against Palace.
01:07:18Tosin returns to the heart of the defence with Malo Cousteau at right back.
01:07:22Rhys James drops to the bench.
01:07:24Cole Palmer was due to start, but withdrew in the warm-up.
01:07:27Estevão gets his first start for the club.
01:07:29And Liam De Lappe comes in in place of Jamie Kitchens.
01:07:33This is the first time that De Lappe and Joao Petro have started together for Chelsea.
01:07:40Joao Petro.
01:07:42Chalaba.
01:07:44Estevão tips the flick that doesn't come off.
01:07:46This is Lucas Paqueta.
01:07:50This is it from Rage.
01:07:52What a goal!
01:07:55Lucas Paqueta!
01:07:56He won't hit many better than that all season.
01:08:02On the opening home game of the campaign.
01:08:07Lucas Paqueta takes the West Ham fans' breath away with that one.
01:08:12Simply stunning shot.
01:08:20First goal of the campaign for West Ham United.
01:08:27Tosin.
01:08:27What a ball in.
01:08:35Estevão was ready to finish.
01:08:38But an intervention from Elhaji Malikjouf was critical for West Ham.
01:08:43He'd even swung his boot, Estevão.
01:08:45In-swinger flicked on by Kukurea.
01:08:51Flicked into the back of the net.
01:08:53Joao Petro.
01:08:55His first Premier League goal for Chelsea.
01:08:59And West Ham were barely in front for ten minutes.
01:09:03Kukurea there.
01:09:05Just running into the six-yard box in front of Paqueta.
01:09:08Keep your eye on him, the Chelsea number three.
01:09:11Gets the little flick on.
01:09:13Joao Petro able to shrug off the attentions of Aaron Mombisaka.
01:09:21Paqueta keeps it in.
01:09:22Nicely rolled here for Tejibo.
01:09:27And a chance for Kilman.
01:09:29And the full crown!
01:09:31That's how you finish it!
01:09:36Chelsea are complaining.
01:09:43Appeals that Tejibo would have been offside as it was rolled beyond Kukurea.
01:09:49It's a great run for the French central defender.
01:09:53However, he was fractionally offside.
01:09:56And this goal is not going to stand.
01:10:02Agonisingly close for West Ham.
01:10:07Estevão helps it on to Joao Petro.
01:10:13Too high for his teammates at the centre.
01:10:16Alec Chouf.
01:10:16And Kukurea's given it away carelessly on the edge of his own penalty area.
01:10:22Joao Petro.
01:10:23Petro Neto!
01:10:25Lucas Pacata gives away possession on the edge of the box.
01:10:30And West Ham's goal scorer earlier is punished immediately.
01:10:36Little danger here.
01:10:37West Ham confident enough to try and play it out from the back.
01:10:40Nine goals for Chelsea last season for Petro Neto.
01:10:47Scored against West Ham the last time they made it step for Bridge in February.
01:10:52Video assistant referee, Jared Gillen, has looked at the replays.
01:10:57They deemed that to be normal football contact there.
01:11:00It is going to stand as a goal for Chelsea.
01:11:12Real Augusto.
01:11:13De lappe.
01:11:15Taken biased about with real acceleration of pace.
01:11:18Can he pull it back?
01:11:19You bet he can.
01:11:21Into Fernandes.
01:11:23The Chelsea captain.
01:11:25Makes it 3-1.
01:11:29The precision and pace of Estevão was key there.
01:11:34Fleet-footed.
01:11:36Leaves so many West Ham defenders in his wake.
01:11:39And has the wherewithal to pick out the perfect pass.
01:11:45And there may be 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
01:11:47But some West Ham United fans have already seen enough.
01:11:54An evening that started so well for Graham Potter.
01:11:57But how does he take his way out of this particular hole?
01:12:02Into Fernandes with options.
01:12:04Pace of Petro Neto outside.
01:12:07De lapps in the middle.
01:12:07Inso Fernandes should have got Chelsea's fourth.
01:12:13He started that.
01:12:14And the Argentinian disappointed he wasn't able to finish it.
01:12:21Neto.
01:12:24Cucuré ahead of him.
01:12:26He's onside.
01:12:28That's an important block.
01:12:30Because Chelsea had four black shirts as well as Cucuré.
01:12:34And so the penalty area there.
01:12:37Pace penalty area waiting this one.
01:12:42Corretson came.
01:12:43Couldn't gather.
01:12:44And it's into the net from Casado.
01:12:47On his 100th appearance for Chelsea.
01:12:50Moise Casado.
01:12:52Moise Casado.
01:12:55He only got one Premier League goal last season.
01:13:00His league tally up and underway for this campaign already.
01:13:03It's only the fifth Premier League goal of his career.
01:13:08And West Ham, who already knew they were in deep trouble,
01:13:12are now seeing it fulfilled as hordes begin to head towards the exits now.
01:13:17Jean-Pedro, Dilap, here is Esteval.
01:13:27Pushed away, out for a corner kick.
01:13:31It'll actually be able to achieve.
01:13:37Neto's delivery, in on top of the goalkeeper again.
01:13:40Touchdown by John Petro, West Ham are disintegrating in front of Arise here.
01:13:47Trevo Culliver gets his first goal since returning to the club from Crystal Palace.
01:13:54From 1-0 up tonight, West Ham are now 5-1 down.
01:14:04Delon standing in front of the goalkeeper, Hrvatsi could get nowhere near it.
01:14:07West Ham defenders simply not reacting quickly enough.
01:14:16It finishes West Ham, United 1, Chelsea 5.
01:14:23Very happy for today, also very happy last week.
01:14:26I think the performance was good, we didn't score.
01:14:29Tonight we scored five, but overall I think the most important thing was the performance
01:14:35and we deserve to win the game.
01:14:37A few early setbacks, obviously the West Ham goal, but also to lose Colt Palmer in the warm-up.
01:14:42I have to ask you, is this serious? Is this going to keep him out for upcoming games?
01:14:45No, in the last four or five days he was not 100%.
01:14:48He tried during the warm-up, he felt something.
01:14:50And the reason why he's in place is because we don't want to take any risk to get worse.
01:14:54A good start, scored a great goal and then considered a cheap goal and that would probably set the tone for the evening.
01:15:03In the end, we're playing against the top side, we have to acknowledge that.
01:15:07But the manner of the goals we conceded, it makes it impossible for us.
01:15:12So, we have to do better, it's as simple as that.
01:15:16Well, Chelsea made it look easy, even without Colt Palmer.
01:15:19How easy did West Ham make it for them, Micah?
01:15:22Too easy. I think it was awful defending, to be honest.
01:15:25But I think sometimes the system is hampering them.
01:15:29Because Wan-Bissaka, we know he's a right-back, but he can get forward.
01:15:33But it doesn't stop the cross.
01:15:35But there's a mix-up between Tadebo and Wissaka.
01:15:39When Wissaka goes too early, Neto gets in between them.
01:15:43Tadebo gets attracted to the ball and now the back post is free.
01:15:47That is just communication.
01:15:49Gerd goes out, too late.
01:15:51And then Kilman doesn't win the second one.
01:15:54And then Tadebo over there.
01:15:56Now, once they get into this position here, they're actually in an alright position.
01:16:00But they've not checked their shoulders.
01:16:02Enzo runs in behind them.
01:16:04Tadebo goes towards the ball.
01:16:06And now Wan-Bissaka's in a race.
01:16:08It's too late.
01:16:09And sometimes when you're playing wing-back, it's hard to get into them positions early.
01:16:13But they've got everyone back from the corner.
01:16:16You just want your leaders out there to go and head the ball.
01:16:20Like Potter said, it's a cheap goal.
01:16:22It's impossible to win games when you defend like that.
01:16:25And it's just too easy.
01:16:27At least if you're not going to play teams off the park.
01:16:29Be strong, be resolute, be aggressive.
01:16:32And those things, unfortunately, you can't say for West Ham right now.
01:16:36There's a fragility about them, isn't there?
01:16:38It happened last weekend.
01:16:40Once they concede the first goal, you think, OK, stick together.
01:16:44We'll be alright and we'll work at things.
01:16:47But there seems to be a real fragility about their team.
01:16:50They conceded a three.
01:16:51They conceded a five.
01:16:52And it's not looking good.
01:16:53And it's not just these opening two games of this new Premier League season.
01:16:57Graham Potter's been in charge now for 20 games.
01:16:59And the only manager who has a worse points-per-game ratio is Avram Grant.
01:17:04He's going to take a lot of criticism from the West Ham fans.
01:17:07And it comes back slightly to the point that Micah was making.
01:17:11Which is, is it the system or is it the players?
01:17:13I think, I mean, they had a brilliant manager there.
01:17:16And David Moyes chose not to keep him.
01:17:19So they decided to go down different routes.
01:17:21And I don't know, I'm not party to what goes on inside the football club.
01:17:25But looking from the outside, it looks a difficult club to manage or coach.
01:17:29I think, I think Potter's a very good manager.
01:17:33I think he's a good coach.
01:17:35I think he did ever so well at Brighton,
01:17:38but he came into a club where they had a system.
01:17:41I think West Ham have had success being defensive,
01:17:44but the fans want to be a bit more offensive.
01:17:47But right now, he's not got the balance right.
01:17:50And I think that's what's hurting the team at this moment in time.
01:17:53We'll keep an eye on that situation that's unravelling at West Ham.
01:17:58For now though, let's take a look at the table.
01:18:00And it's nice viewing if you live in North London.
01:18:02Arsenal are the early pace-setters,
01:18:04closely followed by their rivals Tottenham.
01:18:06Chelsea are third ahead of Champions Liverpool,
01:18:08who play on Monday night.
01:18:10West Ham have made their worst start to a Premier League season.
01:18:13They're one of four teams yet to get off the mark.
01:18:16Wolves have conceded five without reply.
01:18:19And Manchester United and Everton have a chance
01:18:21to pick up their first points on Sunday.
01:18:25Stay tuned on BBC One for the football interview with Mark Gahey.
01:18:29Thanks very much to Alan and to Micah on what's been a big day for a young debutante.
