00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:30Good evening.
00:52The new season is well and truly up and running
00:55and we've got three games on the way for you from the opening Sunday.
00:58Danny Murphy and Joe Hart have pre-seasoned well and are raring to go.
01:03We begin at Old Trafford.
01:04Manchester United and their new look forward line against Arsenal
01:08with Mikel Arteta's side coming into this season
01:10on the back of three second-place finishes in a row.
01:13Commentary comes from Guy Mowbray.
01:16Once again, Arsenal's aim is to go just one better.
01:21Manchester United, well, they have to be miles better.
01:24But given their finish of 15th last season,
01:27that is surely the simpler assignment.
01:31They're undoubtedly having a go for more goals
01:33with new signings Brian Invermo and Mateus Cunha
01:36straight into the side for game one,
01:38whilst the towering Slovenian Benjamin Szczko is a substitute.
01:43Arsenal were linked with him,
01:44but spent on Viktor Jocheres instead.
01:47And the Swedish striker bought from Sporting Lisbon
01:49is in for his debut from the off,
01:51along with midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
01:55First, we pause to honour the memory of someone
01:58we should be enjoying watching perform
02:00in the Premier League this season.
02:03Diogo Jota, along with his brother Andre Silva,
02:06taken too soon.
02:07The fixture computer clearly has an impish human sense of humour,
02:30putting these two together for game one of a new season.
02:34Calafiore in again.
02:38Lodegaard takes over,
02:40leaves Dorgou on the deck,
02:41corner Arsenal.
02:44Altai Bayemdur starting in the Manchester United goal,
02:47Andre Onana has missed pre-season
02:50and is not a judge to be fit enough to play just yet.
02:53And it's nodded in on the line,
03:06Calafiore got the touch.
03:11A super soft goal
03:12to get Arsenal going for the new season.
03:16Altai Bayemdur feels he's being impeded by Saliba,
03:19but he's still got to do better than that.
03:22It's going to be checked.
03:27Inevitable wrestling's going on in front of it all.
03:30Now is that going to be seen as a foul on the keeper?
03:32I think the arm into the side might be a factor there.
03:35And the view there is there's not enough in it.
03:41So Calafiore,
03:43from a centimetre out,
03:44heads Arsenal into the lead.
03:46That's knocked the stuffing out of what was a positive sounding ground.
03:50Raya made to hurry
03:54and made to struggle by Matthias Cunha,
03:57who thinks he was bumped off the ball unfairly.
04:01Not sure that was the case.
04:03What is undoubtedly the case
04:04is that David Raya was very, very fortunate.
04:08Nikola Teta's always got a lovely way with words and quotes.
04:12Asked about being under pressure to win the title this time round.
04:16I said this week,
04:17you have to keep digging
04:18because one day gold is going to be there.
04:20Dorgun.
04:23Matthias Cunha wants it,
04:25Dorgun went for it!
04:26And it was the right call.
04:28What a good try.
04:30He arrived at Old Trafford last season
04:31with a reputation of being a full-back who can't half-finish.
04:35Well, he hasn't got his first goal for the club yet,
04:38but he was close there.
04:41Odegaard.
04:43Pass one.
04:45Pass two.
04:47Odegaard shot.
04:48Couldn't get past three.
04:50He couldn't squeeze it far enough into the corner
04:54to properly test Altai Binder.
04:59Former Manchester United defender Gabriel Enza
05:01is now on Nikola Teta's Arsenal coaching staff.
05:05Bruno Fernandes.
05:11Mount.
05:13Saliba's got to be careful with the holding.
05:16Mateus Cunha.
05:17Really sharp.
05:18And it rolls along the line for Calafiore to now clear.
05:24Mateus Cunha's starting to make a big difference
05:26to Manchester United's forward play.
05:28That might well have been squeezing in.
05:31I reckon that's a pretty good save.
05:331-0 Arsenal,
05:34but United have had more chances to score.
05:36Last season,
05:39Arsenal failed to win
05:40ten Premier League matches
05:42from leading positions,
05:44which is the first time that's happened to them.
05:48Mateus Cunha.
05:49At first,
05:50it looked as though he'd given himself too much to do,
05:52but he did well to get there.
05:55Saliba all over him,
05:56holding him.
05:57Now it's a free kick.
05:58And now there's an increase in the noise levels.
06:06Can Manchester United do to Arsenal
06:08what was done to them in the early stages?
06:13It's Bruno Fernandes.
06:15Right on top of the goalkeeper.
06:17Raya has sorted it out, though.
06:22De Ligt standing right in front of Raya.
06:25That's good from David Raya.
06:27That's strong.
06:28That's what Altai Bajander needed to do first half.
06:31Well, this has got the crowd
06:32to their feet.
06:34Casemiro is off.
06:36Manuel Ugarte is coming on.
06:37It's not that change that they're interested in.
06:39Not really.
06:40It's this one.
06:41Off goes Mason Mount.
06:43On comes Benjamin Szczko.
06:47Big, big money.
06:49Big, big striker.
06:56There's Cunha.
06:57Oh, beautiful.
06:57Ben White with a desperate grab or two.
07:01And he can't stop Cunha.
07:02And he finds Mboumou.
07:05Mboumou keeps his feet.
07:07He won't fall for Ahmad.
07:09And Calafiore has done the clearing.
07:10He's got the place pumped again.
07:15The place pumped again.
07:16Bruno Fernandes.
07:17Improvised try from Mboumou.
07:20Mboumou.
07:21Wide it goes.
07:27Magnificent from Mateus Cunha.
07:29Looked as though it really started something here.
07:33And Mboumou struggled at first to get it out of his feet.
07:38And it wouldn't run kindly for Ahmad.
07:41Gabriel did everything he could just to stay in the way.
07:45He was in the way twice.
07:47Now it's Mateus Cunha.
07:58Now it's Mateus Cunha.
08:01Dorgou.
08:02It's deflected.
08:03And Mboumou's on to it.
08:04And Raya was ready for it.
08:09Bruno Fernandes.
08:12This time it's Cescola and it's wide.
08:21And the deflection aided Brian Mboumou there.
08:24He's able to come on to it and generate the power.
08:27Ahmad just a few groans in the crowd.
08:35There was a little more pace for the attack.
08:37Ahmad supplies it.
08:38He skips past Madweki again.
08:40This is Cescola.
08:43Mateus Cunha follows it out.
08:46Shaw.
08:50Claimed by Raya.
08:52Claims from Manchester United that Ahmad was unfairly impeded.
08:57Nothing in that.
08:59Both hanging on to one another.
09:07Here's Havertz.
09:09And Maguire stays in his way.
09:11And that's his first involvement to give away a free kick.
09:14Starting with Ugarte.
09:17Carelessly passing the ball to Kai Havertz.
09:19Which is why I guess Harry Maguire thought,
09:22well, I've got to do something.
09:23Oh, the guard or Rice.
09:30It's going to be Declan Rice.
09:33Couldn't squeeze it all the way,
09:34but that's because it was deflected along the way.
09:39Might well have done it otherwise.
09:41United have to be a team in a hurry.
09:43They're used to this sort of position.
09:45Lost seven of their last dozen Premier League games at Old Trafford.
09:48Amad to Bruno Fernandes.
09:51A little bit of momentum lost with that pass.
09:54De Ligt wants it inside.
09:56He's got it.
09:58De Ligt across into the centre.
10:01Maguire tries to get there.
10:02Arsenal bundle it away as a potential penalty's being checked.
10:10I know not what for right now.
10:12It was a little bit happening.
10:15Mateus Cunha, I think, might have been tackled certainly by Saliba.
10:19Play goes on.
10:20Dorgu, it won't sit, it won't bounce, it won't stick.
10:23I can tell you the check's over.
10:25And this was why Manchester United were asking for a penalty.
10:30Yes, there's contact,
10:32but I don't think there's enough ever to overturn the ref's view that,
10:36well, let it all go on.
10:42Odegaard.
10:46Havats.
10:49To the corner and intending to stay there.
10:51No, no, he's done better, he's found Odegaard.
10:53And Odegaard plays it through for Saka.
10:57De Ligt back to block.
11:05Bakayo Tata's team nearly there for a day-one win.
11:10Odegaard slaloms through.
11:13Bakayo Saka beats Mbumo to the ball.
11:19Plays it in.
11:20That surely handball, Madwerke,
11:22not that he could finish it anyway.
11:26Saka.
11:27Mourinho.
11:29And that'll be Bayern de Haas,
11:31but he's got to be quick, he's got to launch it.
11:33No, he doesn't, he's played it short to Bruno Fernandes.
11:35He's got to launch it.
11:38Not quick enough, it's been Manchester United's failing all day.
11:41One goal wins it, scored very early on by defender Riccardo Calafiore.
11:48And the season starts with the same old story here,
11:52Manchester United beaten at home.
11:55And on the other side, the season starts with a very familiar old story.
11:59It's 1-0 to the Arsenal.
12:01I'm very happy, it's always very challenging to go to Old Trafford.
12:06You can sense and feel the momentum they're trying to build here.
12:09It was a special atmosphere with the new signings and to come here away and win the game is a big result.
12:15Clearly we deserve more.
12:18We were the better team, I think that is clear.
12:21But in the end we lost, we did a lot of things right.
12:24In the end we should cross more the ball to the box, especially with the right players.
12:29I think we didn't even play our best football, you know.
12:32But still we managed to get the three points, so I'm so happy and we are so happy for this.
12:36What's the spirit like in the Arsenal camp?
12:38How have the new boys come in and joined in with things?
12:41The new boys are going to help us a lot.
12:43I think and I hope it's going to be the secret to win something this year.
12:46Obviously it's very frustrated the way we conceded the goal.
12:49We were very aware of what they could do in set plays.
12:54Not being able of scoring with so many chances that we created is something that we have to look at.
13:00You've spoken about the need for positivity on the field, but also off the field.
13:03Every time you went forward it was matched by the noise from the stands.
13:06They just want to have that feeling again.
13:08I think it's the simple thing.
13:10So we go to Old Trafford, we are not going to get bored.
13:14Sometimes you win, sometimes you draw.
13:16We need to win more than we won last season, of course.
13:20But they want to see something.
13:22They want to be here and to feel something.
13:24I think they felt something.
13:26Yeah, great atmosphere today at Old Trafford.
13:28Now, no big surprise that Arsenal get their scoring off this season from a set piece.
13:32They've scored 31 goals from corners over the last two seasons.
13:35But you're going to have a closer look at Bayern's role in this goal.
13:39Yeah, yeah.
13:39And I think it's important that when we go to analysis, I think it's important that we run it clean.
13:44Because I know that everyone at home is going to watch this game.
13:46Everyone in the stadium will watch this game.
13:48And their first immediate reaction will be, the goalkeeper has to be stronger.
13:52Now, look.
13:53I'm not here to say whether it's good, bad or indifferent.
13:55I need to explain why that situation has occurred.
13:58So as Bayern Deer sets up here, he's looking out.
14:01He feels like he's got Mount.
14:02He's dealing with Saliba.
14:03As he looks out a lot across the edge, everything else is in place.
14:06And he's thinking, anything that comes to that near post, I can come and deal with.
14:11So this is before Declan Rice has started his run-up.
14:14Now, that's where he sees it.
14:16That's where the action is going to take place.
14:18Mount taking care of Saliba.
14:20Bayern Deer focusing on everything that's in front of him.
14:23Now, in the millisecond it takes for Declan Rice to approach the ball.
14:28And as he gets to here, the whole situation has changed.
14:31Saliba has removed Mount out of the way.
14:33And he's got himself locked in for a battle, for a physical battle,
14:36that Bayern Deer wouldn't necessarily have been prepared for.
14:39So if we just move it on.
14:45As the ball gets to here, Bayern Deer will be very aware that that's his ball.
14:50So he now needs to deal with Saliba.
14:52He needs to get him out of the way and create some room so he can deal with the ball.
14:56He'll be well aware he's not catching it, but he wants to get a good punch on it and clear his lines.
15:00Now, this is the moment that he just manages to free himself.
15:04He just gets away from Saliba.
15:05So he needs to get set here and this is where he needs forward momentum.
15:09He needs to be setting off and attacking that ball.
15:11Saliba knows that.
15:12He knows what he's doing in this situation.
15:14Arsenal's strongest player.
15:15Low centre of gravity.
15:17And he just gets the nudge in as Bayern Deer tries to take off.
15:20And that is why it results in him not being able to use his right hand, flaps a left hand at it.
15:26And Kelly Fiore cannot believe his luck.
15:28Easiest goal is he'll score.
15:30Now, in this situation, personally, I would always want my teammate next to me.
15:34I want my teammate.
15:35I want Mount, the other side of Saliba, so I could use him as a human shield.
15:39I'd be using my left arm up against him because it's not a foul when you're pushing against your own player.
15:44It's now a physical battle.
15:45Like I say, he's up against Arsenal's strongest player.
15:48I'd be using Mount to get him away, clear myself some space.
15:51I'd occupy my left arm and then I'd look to use my right arm to punch.
15:55But because he's embroiled in such a strong battle and his weight's all over the place,
16:00he's not able to get a good solid punch.
16:02But we're going to get a really good example soon of how he could have handled that situation better.
16:06The thing is, though, Joe, as a goalkeeper,
16:07if you do choose a player to stand between you and someone as strong and as big as Saliba,
16:12surely you want someone bigger and with more physical presence than Mount.
16:15Yeah, I agree.
16:16You want someone who's going to handle one of the hardest players on the pitch.
16:18But that's who they chose to do the job.
16:20But Saliba just got around it so easily.
16:22OK, and then, of course, Raya has, not long afterwards,
16:26the perfect textbook, almost, example of what you should have done.
16:29I mean, it wasn't the same move exactly, but a brilliant punch in what was really a faultless afternoon from him.
16:34Yeah, he had an excellent game.
16:36He had some really good moments.
16:37And if you're going to have a Premier League winning goalkeeper,
16:39you don't just have to make big saves.
16:41You have to command your box.
16:42And what I talked about is how he frees up his right arm so he can be able to punch away from the goal.
16:47Deals with the lit.
16:48That's a tough physical battle.
16:49Just gets that space so he can push it and clear his lines.
16:52That's music to his defenders' ears.
16:55But, as we talked about, not only has he done that, that's his bread and butter.
16:59This save I thought he made against Cunha.
17:01Cunha looked a menace all afternoon.
17:03Now, at first glance, not everyone would have picked up on that, but I knew straight away.
17:06That is such a sharp save.
17:08Brilliant.
17:09So many more micro-adjustments getting set.
17:12And it's a really smart shot from Cunha.
17:13He probably wouldn't have expected it.
17:15And here, to change the trajectory of the ball, there's no room for error.
17:19That's an incredible save, and Cunha knows it.
17:21He absolutely knows.
17:22That's a brilliant save.
17:22He thought he scored.
17:24And as the ball comes here, later on in the game, your team's 1-1-0 away at Old Trafford.
17:28That's exactly what you want.
17:31Now, what Rea does so well is when he sets, he realises he's not coming for the ball,
17:34makes adjustments.
17:36Here, these little micro-adjustments.
17:38Sets.
17:38Buomo has a great header, and that is all over Instagram later.
17:41That's a huge save.
17:42Man-in-the-match performance.
17:43We were swooning, and you were going, oh, that's easy.
17:46That's your bread and butter.
17:47That's the one that you've got the pitcher blowing up on your wall.
17:49Definitely.
17:50Arsenal's attack today, not as good as their stats, kind of, on average would be over
17:55last season.
17:55Not as many shots as you'd expect from their ex-G's.
17:57But actually, for Jokeres, you know, first game in the Premier League, there he is playing
18:02at the centre forward that Arsenal have been desperate to get hold of.
18:06And actually, it was a quiet debut, wasn't it?
18:08I felt from a bit, Gab.
18:10I mean, touches in the opposition box, three, says it all, really.
18:13The stats aren't good.
18:14But that's because he's relying on other players to get him the ball.
18:17Arsenal have got brilliant creative players, and they weren't quite at the races today.
18:20It was a below-key performance from them.
18:23And as I said, their main creators were not feeding him.
18:25But this is what we do.
18:27You know, we build players up, and then we overanalyse in the first week or two.
18:30Let him settle in.
18:31It'll take time for Arsenal to get used to having a sense of ball.
18:33Any player needs to build up relationships with other players, especially forwards,
18:37when to make the run, who can I trust to get me the passes, you know,
18:39and physically as well.
18:41It's the Premier League.
18:42We know it's different than the Portuguese.
18:43And plenty for Manchester United to get used to as well in terms of new players.
18:46And they'll leave the stadium tonight, those fans, feeling disappointed
18:50they didn't take a point or three points.
18:51But you think there's plenty to be positive about.
18:54The progression was incredible.
18:55More dynamic, more direct, more confidence.
19:00Physically, they looked really good.
19:01And I think a lot of that comes from having players high up the pitch,
19:05especially the two new boys, who are just high in quality
19:08and good, skilful players who are physical and able.
19:12And they scare opposition.
19:14So the system we know, excuse me, the shape,
19:17he won't deviate from it.
19:19Playing forward early.
19:20We saw lots, there's the front three, lots of times last season.
19:24Matt Bruno supporting them.
19:25Manchester United playing out from the back,
19:27constantly getting caught in the defensive third.
19:30We hardly saw that today.
19:32Then you've got the runners, because they've got pace.
19:34They want to get in behind.
19:36So if you've got players at the top of the pitch,
19:38who want to get in behind and want to threaten the back,
19:40then get the ball early more quickly.
19:41There's that front three again.
19:43All in positions they're familiar with and have played with before.
19:46It's a great ball from Mount, who, by the way,
19:47had an excellent game, and that's positive.
19:49But then you've got the wing-backs more confident,
19:51willing to run forward, to support their forward players,
19:54knowing they're going to keep it, knowing it's going to stick.
19:56There's the back three.
19:59We talked about it many times last season.
20:01They weren't coming out enough,
20:03taking a risk to help the midfielders and win the ball high up.
20:06As soon as they win it, again, there's the wing-back Dogu this time,
20:09high up the pitch, brilliant strike,
20:11and a few inches away from scoring, of course.
20:14And look, talk about tactics all you want, quality.
20:18Brilliant dribbler, physically strong, full of confidence.
20:21United didn't have this last season.
20:23Hoyland low on confidence, Xerxes low on confidence,
20:26Maynou playing up there.
20:28It's a completely different dynamic.
20:30Here's this pass forward.
20:31His distribution was great, by the way.
20:33Great ball in, and then what have you got?
20:35Brilliant passer in Bruno, and now he's got runners linking up.
20:40So much to be pleased about for Manchester United fans.
20:45And then, again, moments like this.
20:48You know, somebody who's got the confidence to take responsibility
20:50at Old Trafford in front of that expectant crowd.
20:53He looks up, he's got runners.
20:55Xerxes goes on the pitch at this stage.
20:57Even more options.
20:58And to be honest with you, I haven't seen Arsenal struggle that much
21:02in the second half in terms of not being able to get out,
21:05being pinned back.
21:07And again, look, there's the front three.
21:10They get in the box.
21:11They've got numbers in there.
21:12Brumo wants to round off his day.
21:13Good performance, and that's the save we're talking about.
21:16But overall, I mean, it's chalk and cheese, Gap, honestly.
21:19And Man U fans can actually be, I think, quite positive about this.
21:2422 shots, and of course, Cesco came on.
21:26Massive reaction, didn't he, from the fans in the stadium.
21:29He used to come into that as well.
21:31Exactly, and I was going to say, and that is a great positive for them,
21:33that presumably next week, Craven Cottage will get his debut.
21:35Yeah, he really is, and it feels like the new players
21:37that have had a little bit of time, you know, Cunha and Brumo,
21:40they've had a little bit of time, they've got the system,
21:42so they'll believe that Cesco, they can get him in,
21:44they can get him firing.
21:45So, Danny, what's the priority, you think, for Manchester United
21:47with the rest of the transfer window?
21:50Well, some might think a goalkeeper,
21:51but I'd probably think a central midfielder.
21:53If they're going to play Bruno in there,
21:55someone with a bit more physicality than Ugarse and Casemiro,
21:58more powerful to do a bit more running for him.
22:02But, I mean, look, even if they don't get anybody,
22:05that front end of the pitch is going to make their season
22:09completely different than last,
22:10because every team they play against is wary.
22:13OK, Nottingham Forest's seventh place finish last season
22:17was their best in 30 years.
22:19They began the new campaign against Brentford
22:21with their new head coach, Keith Andrews,
22:23taking charge of his first competitive game.
22:25At the City ground for this one, Martin Fisher.
22:29Hugely contrasting emotions for fans of these clubs over the summer.
22:33Excited chatter in these parts about the return of European football
22:37to the City ground.
22:38Nervous mutterings down Brentford way
22:40about life after Thomas Frank
22:42and a new season without many of their stars.
22:46Dan Undoy is Forest's only debutant today,
22:48but more new signings arriving daily, it seems,
22:52keeping Morgan Gibbs-White
22:53probably their best bit of business.
22:56For Brentford, Mbumo, Norgard, and Flecken have gone.
22:59Wisser wants to.
23:00The new faces for the new manager today
23:03are Keevian Kelleher and Anthony Malambo.
23:09Brentford have yet to lose on the opening day in the Premier League.
23:13Forest last won a top-tier curtain-raiser
23:15on this very day in 1996.
23:19The late Kevin Campbell got a hat-trick that day at Coventry.
23:22The Reds went on to be relegated.
23:27Hudson-Odoi
23:29is found across.
23:32Collins steps in
23:33before his new goalkeeper, Keevian Kelleher, could collect.
23:38Nottingham Forest get the first corner of the afternoon.
23:43Deep towards Wood.
23:45And it will drop for Wood!
23:46And Wood starts this season
23:48in exactly the same fashion
23:51as he coloured last season.
23:57It hasn't taken him long.
24:00Five minutes into the new season
24:03and Chris Wood gets his first strike of the campaign.
24:0820 in the Premier League last term.
24:11That was his best ever in the top flight.
24:14And how about that for a smart finish
24:16from the Kiwi?
24:18And Forest in front.
24:22The first injury of the season
24:24is to Nottingham Forest's goalkeeping coach
24:26caused by his celebrations
24:28of Wood's early strike.
24:33Here's Anderson.
24:34It's lovely stuff.
24:35Anderson's drive!
24:37And hooked away
24:38by Lewis Potter.
24:41But Forest at the moment
24:42are in top form
24:45moving the ball nicely.
24:46Gibbs White.
24:52Lovely combination with Wood.
24:55Einer, not quite what he intended
24:56but it still might work Forest's way.
24:58It almost comes to Wood, it still might.
25:00It's cleared by Coyote
25:01only as far as Anderson.
25:04Anderson has another go
25:05and this time Kelleher right behind it.
25:09Well, the way this game is going
25:10I don't think we'll have to wait
25:12too much longer
25:13before Forest increase their lead.
25:20Welcome to life
25:21as a Premier League manager
25:22Keith Andrews.
25:28Morgan Gibbs White
25:29turning into trouble

25:36and it's a good one too.
25:40Gordon Gibbs White dispossessed

29:53Williams all day
29:54and he's unable
29:55to get the better
29:56in there either
29:57And it's already demonstrated that he can hurl this football a long way, Michael Coyote.
30:07This time it's Collins who heads goalwards, took a flick off of Forrest's head,
30:16and it's going to be a corner.
30:22In by Carvalho, right the way across, Charter got a touch.
30:26Appeals for handball, and Brentford get a penalty.
30:31While Peter Banks, emphatic with his call there, got himself in a very good position
30:38and had no doubt at all that he saw the hand there quite clearly of Ibrahim Sangane.
30:47Igor Thiago, now the chance to score his first ever Premier League goal.
30:53Matt Sells takes some beating though, but he has been beaten here.
30:59Igor Thiago can celebrate.
31:04What an emphatic start to the new campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo and Nottingham Forrest.
31:10Forrest three, Brentford one.
31:12I'm very pleased with the way we started the game.
31:17The football that we played, the goals that we achieved, the composure, the solid in defence,
31:22didn't allow too many things to Brentford, it was a very good first off.
31:25We want to continue to do what we did last season, and if not, go better.
31:28We know we've got a European campaign that we're going to have to juggle at the same time,
31:31so it's not going to be easy.
31:33But we want to continue to strive and continue to get better as the club's showing.
31:37It was always going to be a difficult game, for sure.
31:39I think we made it even more difficult for ourselves.
31:41The set-piece was always going to be a threat in terms of what they do.
31:44First goal, our structure to control that, I just felt was lacking in the first half.
31:50But ultimately, in the first half, we didn't perform.
31:53Did we see again today, Nuno, the importance of keeping Morgan Gibbs-White here over the summer?
31:59Yeah, it was very important for us.
32:01He's a key player, and it's only the beginning of the season.
32:04I think he has much more to show.
32:07Yeah, they've spent over Β£100 million strengthening their squad.
32:09Obviously, they're going to have to be competing over, you know, a lot of fronts with Europe in mind.
32:13But it's actually a player they've persuaded to stay who stole the show, Danny.
32:18If you love football, you can only enjoy watching that performance today.
32:23It was absolutely sensational, and he looks happy, creative.
32:30There's so much about him to like.
32:33He could have been out the door. He more or less was.
32:37But Forrest fans, I mean, if they loved him before, they'd love him even more now.
32:43He's a leader. He's demanding the ball.
32:46He pops up all over the place. He had a lovely role today in that ten role.
32:51I've seen him play last season in central midfield, play wide, play as a ten.
32:55Intelligent footballers, they can play anywhere.
32:58And he just keeps getting on the ball, dictating.
33:00He's got pictures. He knows where everybody is around him.
33:03He looks fit, quick.
33:05Obviously, he's content now because the speculation's ended and there's no way he's leaving.
33:11And he can look forward as the players are around him to a good season playing in Europe.
33:15And playing like this, I mean, there was chat about them not being quite ready and Nuno talking about it in the week.
33:20This performance was electric. They were all at it, with and without the ball.
33:25And the more confident he got as the game went on, the more he was getting on the ball and dictating things.
33:32He's probably watching now, actually, because why wouldn't you when you know you've played so well?
33:37He probably knew he was going to be getting a run.
33:39The other thing that I like about him as well, which is, and Joe and I were talking about it,
33:43is he's not one of those players who always comes to feet.
33:47He's happy to run him behind for his team and do the hard yards as well.
33:51And for such a creative player, very, very good defensively.
33:54And I'm sure Thomas Tuchel will be keeping an eye on him.
33:57Now that, with his so-called weaker foot, is a beautiful assist.
34:02And second half, as I said, talk about enjoying your football.
34:05Just relaxing, moving constantly on the move.
34:08Hard to pick up, great feet.
34:11Must be a pleasure to play with.
34:13The more players you've got like that, and this would have been the icing on the cake.
34:15Look at this for an effort.
34:17That really would have been what he deserved for his performance.
34:20There was other good performances, don't get me wrong.
34:22You know, Elliot Anderson was terrific, and there's the...
34:24I think the passes in final third, 31 is a high number.
34:28That's a really good thing, because it shows how creative and positive he's trying to be.
34:33Yeah, it was such a high-energy performance with so much quality.
34:37And like you said, Danny, he's got that speculation out of the way now.
34:40There's no doubt that he was in conversation and stuff was happening.
34:43Forrest stood strong, they made him feel valued, and he's put on an absolute show today.
34:47Playing against the Brentford side, who last season got a 2-0 victory at the City ground,
34:51but they are a very different side now, both in terms of the leadership off the pitch
34:55and the players on the pitch.
34:57In fact, that was the youngest side on average that they've ever fielded in the Premier League.
35:01Many big names have gone, and there's a period of transition clearly here for Keith Andrews to deal with.
35:07There are mitigating circumstances for the performance, but they got run all over in the first half.
35:13They were passive, and that's not acceptable, whether you're young or old.
35:16But they are missing experience.
35:17Norgard going, captain, good player, commander in the middle of the pitch.
35:21Obviously, the forward players who've left.
35:23I'm sure they'll bring one or two more in before the window closes.
35:26They've got to.
35:27And I wouldn't be surprised to see Jordan Henderson in that team very soon,
35:31just to give them a bit of guidance.
35:33Came off the bench today, of course.
35:34And you look at where their players have gone to, of course,
35:37and it's testament, isn't it, to their brilliant recruitment.
35:40They've gone to Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen,
35:42and obviously released Ben Mee, the likes of Ben Mee gone as well.
35:46He's a big miss.
35:47So, you know, they are going to take time.
35:49Yeah, they're definitely going to take time.
35:51And it's a shame, because under Thomas Frank,
35:53they've really established themselves as a Premier League team.
35:56A really tough opposition.
35:57I think if you listen to any manager who was about to play Brentford
36:00over the last couple of years, they said,
36:01look, we've got a really tough task coming up.
36:03But Danny talked about in the first half,
36:05the physicality not quite being there,
36:06but they've just got to find their identity again.
36:08And Keith Andrews has got a tough job,
36:10but I'm sure they'll be capable.
36:12OK, to Stamford Bridge next.
36:14Chelsea on the back of their Club World Cup success over the summer
36:17against last season's FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.
36:20Mark Scott is your commentator.
36:24While Chelsea are still basking in the glory of their triumphant road trip
36:28in the States, the state of things and Palace seems a bit uncertain.
36:32Just three months on from winning their first ever major trophy,
36:36with star names linked with moves away and barely any incomings.
36:40In contrast, Chelsea have dropped another couple of hundred million
36:43over the summer.
36:44Jamie Gittins and JoΓ£o Pedro get their league debuts for the club,
36:47while fellow new boys De Lax, Devao, Esugo and Hato begin on the bench.
36:51Despite noise in the media suggesting Ibera Esa wouldn't feature
36:55due to interest from Spurs,
36:57he starts, as does another on someone's shopping list,
37:00in Palace captain Mark Gay.
37:06Both meetings last season ended in draws.
37:09Prior to that, Chelsea had won 14 games in a row against Palace.
37:14Here is Gittins, first chance for him to stretch his legs.
37:18So Rhys James with this first corner of the game for Chelsea.
37:29James into a good area and flicked on by Kukurea,
37:32and it had to be dealt with by Ismaila Saar at the far stick.
37:35Might not have been going in, but Ismaila Saar wasn't too short.
37:41Leto, good bend, Kukurea's flick on.
37:48And over goes Zenzo Fernandes, looked a bit theatrical to me.
37:52Very quickly checked and cleared this, normal football contact was the view
37:57from the video assistant referee James Bell.
38:00Ooh, that's really bad, Ibera Esa, Saar.
38:12Munoz wants it.
38:15First time ball in from the Colombian, it's tricky.
38:18As his control just let him down.
38:20He's got it back, though.
38:22Lovely stunt from Esa.
38:23Hughes, Mateta, not quite.
38:28Well, it's brought back for the earlier challenge on Will Hughes,
38:32right in the D.
38:34Kukurea had a swipe at the ball but just caught Will Hughes.
38:39And we know who's taking this, it's only Ibera Esa that is in position.
38:46He is in position.
38:49Slap-bang central.
38:51Not many gaps here for Esa to try and get through.
38:54But he has done!
38:56An absolute rocket from Ibera Esa to put Crystal Palace in front.
39:05But it might not count.
39:09Darren England going across to have a glance at this
39:13because Mark Gay made a move into the Chelsea wall.
39:21And the goal is struck off.
39:23Away number six is less than one metre into the wall
39:26as the shot is taken.
39:28Therefore it's an indirect free kick and a disallowed goal.
39:33So just to tidy up what happened,
39:35the reason the goal has been struck off
39:37is because Mark Gay was less than one metre away from the wall
39:41as Esa took the shot.
39:48To Lacroix.
39:51Wharton, nice roll, decent pass.
39:53Gets it back from Saar as well.
39:55Mitchell's up there, it's Jean-Philippe Mateta!
39:57Good block from Sanchez.
40:01Wharton the architect here, quick give-and-go between him and Saar.
40:04too close to Sanchez.
40:10Caicedo.
40:14Neto.
40:17Neto's ball in, goes all the way across.
40:22Gittens.
40:25Looking for the angle for a pop at goal, deflected, dangerous!
40:28And it should really have resulted in the Chelsea opener,
40:32courtesy of Trevor Chalabar.
40:36Chalabar from close range, skied it over the top.
40:46Richards with the long throw.
40:47Sanchez coming a long way.
40:48And Esa back across goal.
40:53Esa again.
40:55Munoz!
40:59Mark Gay has gone down here.
41:01Was there a punch in the head from Sanchez on him?
41:05Well, the check's complete, nothing in it.
41:07Chelsea's an absolutely dominated possession so far, but...
41:11Dean Henderson and the Palace goal hasn't really had anything to do.
41:16Neto.
41:18Good ball, Parma.
41:20Oh, Nick's going to come here for Stabell!
41:22Isabel!
41:30Just for a moment, you thought it might be written in the stars
41:33that the 18-year-old scored on his Premier League debut.
41:44Esa, useful area here, he's got Mitchell in support.
41:47He's gone for goal and stung the palms of Sanchez.
41:49Sluggish this from Chelsea, look at the room for Ibera Esa.
41:54Advancing towards the edge of the box and then powering that one.
41:57Just too close to the keeper.
42:00Oliver Glasner says by Monday night the disappointment about
42:03Cass not overturning Palace's demotion to the Conference League
42:06was gone.
42:08They face Norwegian side Frederikstad in the play-off round
42:12with the first leg on Thursday.
42:15Andres Santos.
42:16Quavik starting on it, not quite enough.
42:19Dilap!
42:23Straight at Dean Henderson.
42:25And that might be Chelsea's last chance
42:27and one of their very few chances to win this match.
42:30Andres Santos can't take it.
42:31Best opening his side of Carvedout all afternoon.
42:33And it's a horror strike from Andres Santos.
42:35Tough game, we expected a tough game.
42:38We try our best.
42:39We create chances.
42:40Always we can do better.
42:41Even if, you know, it's a tough game.
42:42We've got a tough game.
42:43We've got a tough game.
42:44We've got a tough game.
42:45We've got a tough game.
42:46We've got a tough game.
42:47We've got a tough game.
42:48We've got a tough game.
42:49We've got a tough game.
42:50We've got a tough game.
42:51We've got a tough game.
42:52Andres Santos can't take it.
42:53Best opening his side of Carvedout all afternoon.
42:55And it's a horror strike from Andres Santos.
43:00It's a tough game.
43:01Tough game.
43:02We expected a tough game.
43:03We try our best.
43:05We create chances.
43:06Always we can do better.
43:07Even if, you know, when you win, you can do many things better.
43:10I think we could attack better.
43:12We could defend in some moments better.
43:14But it's, you know, it's the first game of the season.
43:18Honestly, over the almost 100 minutes, I think the draw is OK for both teams.
43:23Yes, we scored a goal that was disallowed.
43:25And we had a few chances, but honestly, Chelsea had 2-3 as well.
43:29But overall, I think we deserved this point.
43:32Were you aware of the rule that led to that free kick being disallowed for Palace?
43:36You knew about it.
43:37So did you expect it to be disallowed when it went in?
43:40When they scored, I didn't see that.
43:42When I reviewed, I saw that it was a foul.
43:46Maybe the rule is you have to be one yard away.
43:48When we move too early, then you can disallow it.
43:51But I think you have to be careful because then many free kicks will be disallowed.
43:55Ebb scored that free kick.
43:56There was a lot of noise about him coming into this game.
43:58He's not been distracted.
43:59Did you have any doubts in your mind about picking him today?
44:02Not at all.
44:03I think Ebb and Marc, there was a lot of noise about these two players in the last weeks.
44:07And everybody could see the performance today.
44:09And they are 100% aligned with this group of players, with this team and with Crystal Palace.
44:14I spoke to them almost daily.
44:17So I said maybe more than with my kids and my wife in the last couple of days.
44:23But it was worth to talk to them and we will continue.
44:26And they didn't just show that they are great football players.
44:29They are just showing that they are great persons.
44:33And this is what I really appreciate.
44:35Well, the last time Chelsea started a campaign in the Premier League with a goalless draw was 2011.
44:40They went on and won the Champions League that season.
44:42So that's something to take away from today.
44:44Now, we nearly had the big match of the day bust up in the studio tonight.
44:48Because there was major disagreement about that free kick, Ezra's free kick and the goal being disallowed for about two minutes.
44:56Until we worked out why it was disallowed.
44:58Yeah, and I'm sure there was in the stadium.
45:00There was people watching at home.
45:02Originally, we thought the Gehi versus Caicedo battle was key in this situation.
45:07But what turns out, there needs to be a one metre gap with a four man wall.
45:11Gehi, harsh with Caicedo.
45:13Me and Danny disagreed whether it was a foul or whether it wasn't.
45:16But the fact is that Gehi moved him within one metre of the wall.
45:21So as soon as he does this, as soon as he moves him here close to that four man wall, the goal has to be ruled out.
45:27Robert Sanchez will be breathing a sigh of relief.
45:29Gehi was as confused as we were, but the referee very clear.
45:33And it is indeed law 13.
45:35It's been around since 2019 where three or more defending team players form a wall.
45:41An attacking team player must at least remain a metre or a yard from the wall until the ball is in play.
45:48Well, do you know what? I have to credit Va.
45:50I'm the first to jump on him if they do something wrong.
45:52But that is so sharp that he was on it so quickly because none of us knew in the studio.
45:57And thank God it came out quickly because I thought I was going to be laid out.
46:02I was worried for you.
46:04And of course, poor Eze be thinking lightning does indeed strike twice because the opening day last season, an even better free kick, Danny.
46:13Well, when you take free kicks, you know how desperately sad it would be to have that brilliant free kick disallowed.
46:19That was pushing on the line.
46:21There was pushing in the box.
46:22The referee brewed a whistle before the ball hit the net, which is just, and then to happen again on the opening day next season, he might as well not play next season.
46:30Where will he be next season? We'll get on to that in just a moment.
46:33But a feature of their success last season, Crystal Palace, was the solidity of their defence.
46:38And that was on display again today.
46:39Oh, yeah, the togetherness at the back.
46:41Well, if we're going to go through their last three fixtures, Man City in the FA Cup final, Liverpool in the Community Shield, and today at the World Champions, Chelsea.
46:49This back three, along with Henderson, along with the full backs.
46:53Look, Richards is not even on the field here, but Oliver Glasner's got them so well marshalled.
46:57The communications there.
46:58Mitchell slots in.
47:00Chelsea constantly trying to probe the lines.
47:02They've got really technical players.
47:04And the closer they get to goal, the more that Palace bunch up.
47:08Constantly trying to get a 2v1 if they possibly can.
47:11That's how they want Chelsea playing.
47:13They want them crossing aimlessly into the box.
47:15Richards, Gehi, Lacroix, they're going to gobble that all day.
47:19This is the 2v1 situation we talked about.
47:22Can they push them back? Can they push them back?
47:24Chelsea are a good team.
47:26They managed to move it around the box.
47:27But when they run out of ideas, gain bread and butter.
47:31Even Mateta, I had to highlight him.
47:34I think he was excellent.
47:35You know, he holds the ball up.
47:36But when it comes to the defensive point of view, it's an 11-man job.
47:40Different ways of Chelsea playing.
47:42They've proven that.
47:43You know, bringing Dilap in with that little bit of presence.
47:45Lacroix gets comfortable, gets up against him.
47:48His mates get around him and deal with the situation.
47:50And snuff out another difficult opportunity.
47:53This is late in the game.
47:54This is, again, doubling up. 2v1.
47:56Can they push Chelsea back?
47:57Stamford Bridge expecting.
47:59They're expecting a win today.
48:00Late on.
48:01Can they get 2v1 again?
48:03Yes, they can.
48:04Gehi, this is the last ball into the box.
48:06You hear the whistle going.
48:07Palace boys have worked so, so hard.
48:10They're out on their feet.
48:11But it's job done.
48:12A great point.
48:13And since Glasgow was appointed, look at the company they're keeping there
48:16in terms of clean sheets.
48:18They're third, joint third on 17, behind Arsenal and Manchester City, Danny.
48:23It's been tremendous, considering how poorly they started last season
48:28and then to get so established and comfortable in a system,
48:32because we talk a lot about tactics, but he has nailed it.
48:34The players are comfortable with it.
48:36They've just got the team settled and then, unfortunately for Palace fans,
48:39it looks like that might be assembled.
48:41Yeah.
48:42Eze and Gehi, of course, both mooted to be very close to moving on.
48:46And some of the emotions that were coming out today would say
48:49perhaps this is imminent.
48:50Eze there, applauding and looking like this was potentially a goodbye.
48:54Joe, do you see that emotion there?
48:56Oh, I hate to speculate.
48:58I really do.
48:59But there's a lot of smoke, isn't there?
49:01A lot of smoke around these names.
49:03Oliver Glasner was very strong there, saying that he believes that the team
49:06were fully committed and they couldn't play like that.
49:08But these sorts of things, when you come into your fans and let them know
49:11how much you appreciate them with this on the line, it does send a message.
49:15Yeah.
49:16Palace have got, sorry, Palace have got a wonderful recruitment team.
49:19They've always replaced players quickly and very, very well.
49:24I know Doug E. Friedman's left now, but he was a big part of that.
49:27But they've still got a good team there.
49:29Any club who gets the services of one of those two is going to be pleased
49:34because they're two terrific players, both huge, huge influences at Crystal Palace.
49:41But it's unfortunately the way football is now.
49:44The smaller clubs who do well, the big boys come in and they take their best away.
49:48And, of course, the problem with Gaye as well is that he's only got a year left
49:52on his contract.
49:53So they're in a really difficult one with that.
49:55So maybe you'll be wearing the same colour as your dress.
49:58Glasner said on Sky, on Eze, he said he'll come to training,
50:06he'll have Tuesday off, and then on Wednesday we will be taking him
50:09to play against Frederikstad.
50:11Of course, the Norwegian side they're playing in the qualifying on Thursday.
50:15They both seem like good lads. I don't envisage a problem.
50:18I say they seem excellent pros.
50:20Nothing but positive things to say about them, but business is business.
50:23They can play on Thursday actually and then not be tied in other European competitions
50:27should they go somewhere that wears red that plays perhaps
50:30in a different European competition.
50:32On Chelsea, they have spent a lot of money, as they always do,
50:35bolstering their attack.
50:37And they had some stats that were really interesting today
50:39in terms of their highest XG they've ever had and not scored.
50:43I mentioned at the beginning you have to go back to 2011
50:45with them to have a goalless match as the opening run of the season.
50:48Should they be a little bit worried about their attack?
50:50Or is this fatigue from being world champions, as Joe rightly pointed out?
50:54I think part of it is they've only just got back.
50:56They've had a little break after the tournament,
50:59which means they're probably not quite into rhythm.
51:02And what we talked about before with Joca,
51:04new players at Chelsea need a bit of time to adapt to the surroundings
51:08and the player relationships I talked about.
51:10It's one game. It's the opening day of the season.
51:12I mean, they've got an abundance of talent
51:14and I'm sure within a couple of weeks they'll be scoring plenty of goals.
51:17And they made chances.
51:18Yeah, they did. They just looked a little bit frustrated towards the end.
51:21You know, they've come off the back of a huge high towards the end of the season.
51:25But everything seems quite settled, which is quite unique for Chelsea
51:29in previous starts to the season.
51:30There's been a lot of talk about the money they've spent.
51:32They've finally got themselves in a position where they can have a good foundation.
51:35I'm sure they'll build on it.
51:36And we saw, didn't we, PSG, who, of course, were also playing in the Club World Cup,
51:41not looking themselves in the Super Cup.
51:43So, you know, maybe just take a few weeks.
51:45Yeah.
51:46OK.
51:47Well, if you've missed any of the action this weekend,
51:49both Match of the Day programmes are available on iPlayer,
51:52along with highlights of each of the weekend's Premier League games,
51:55which are also on BBC Sport website and app.
51:58Look out for the Wayne Rooney Show,
52:00with a fresh episode dropping first thing tomorrow morning.
52:03For more reaction and debate, there's the Monday Nightclub.
52:07That's on Five Live and BBC Sounds from 7 o'clock.
52:11And there's highlights from the all-important Champions League playoffs
52:14on Wednesday night with Celtic and Rangers both in action this week.
52:17And every game from the Women's Rugby World Cup is live on the BBC.
52:21It's all kicking off with England against the USA on Friday
52:24at the Stadium of Light, which is probably still bouncing.
52:27Do join us for that one.
52:29OK, let's catch up on what's happened in the rest of the opening weekend.
52:33Liverpool get their title defence underway.
52:39And he scores!
52:41The first downfield goal for Hugo Ekechike.
52:45They're looking for room and still and finding some.
52:49Semenya's in the middle and has scored.
52:54He's got to go left surely.
52:55He goes alone and scores brilliantly.
52:57It's 2-2.
52:59A bit of a mess and in from Chiesa.
53:03Salah.
53:05And that will do it.
53:07Liverpool start with a win.
53:10Anthony Alanga with an epitome goal.
53:13The narrative is going to be that Newcastle lack a goal scorer.
53:16Now, Esri Conte.
53:18He's going to be sent off.
53:19He's gone.
53:20And Virginia Rootford down.
53:23Brighton have got a penalty.
53:25It's Brighton's first goal of the new season.
53:29Far post.
53:301-1.
53:31A point apiece.
53:34Victory slips through Brighton's hands.
53:37Sunderland are ready to go.
53:39Down for the corner and it's in.
53:43Have a listen to that.
53:47That's pretty handy.
53:48That's 2-0.
53:50That's Ballard.
53:53Is it all?
53:54What a smile of Sunderland.
53:58It is with Charleston.
53:59Half a chance.
54:00Spurs lead.
54:01Judas with the cross in.
54:02It's a brilliant effort.
54:05Takes it wide.
54:06Crots it in.
54:07Spurs have a third.
54:08Game 7 match.
54:14Trying to feed Rico Lewis.
54:15Haaland waiting.
54:17Unerling.
54:18Haaland scoring.
54:19Can he get it there?
54:20He can.
54:21And he can finish beautifully.
54:22A debut goal for the Dutchman in City Blue.
54:28Emphatic.
54:31Chucky.
54:32Oh, it's a debut goal for him as well.
54:37It seems it would be remiss to have you here and not ask you
54:40about James Trafford and his development.
54:42You know, we knew last season at Burnley that he was turning
54:45into a really special goalkeeper and obviously his stats
54:48last season were incredible.
54:50But obviously now with City, give us a little take on what you've
54:54made of his progress.
54:55Yeah, look.
54:56Firstly, I'm really pleased for him.
54:57I know him loosely.
54:59He's a goalkeeper and obviously he was a Manchester City goalkeeper
55:01when I was there.
55:02Lovely kid.
55:03And he's got such a hunger for it.
55:05And what I love about his career is he decided to make that move
55:08to Burnley.
55:09It was a big money move for a 20 year old.
55:12And he went and it was a difficult season to go into Burnley.
55:15You know, Vinnie company trying to play out.
55:17Different system.
55:18They were in that bottom three the whole season.
55:20But he kept strong.
55:21He kept brave.
55:22Could have gone somewhere else.
55:24Didn't stayed.
55:25And I just think he's just developed so much physically.
55:27Physically and mentally he's developed.
55:29And last season we just had those stats on before.
55:32Incredible stats.
55:33Fully deserves.
55:34He had a buyback clause.
55:35And Manchester City knew.
55:36They knew what he was capable of.
55:38They knew what his potential was.
55:39They borrowed him out to Burnley.
55:41They bought him out for a decent price.
55:42And it only makes them stronger.
55:44Is he, for you, well suited now to City?
55:47Is he going to be their number one this season?
55:49I think that's a great question.
55:50It's a really strange kind of scenario at the moment.
55:52But he's come in.
55:53And one thing I know that he will go in there and he will believe
55:56and he will act like he's the number one.
55:58I think they will, whoever's the other goalkeeper,
56:00I think they will share games.
56:01I think they're in that unique position
56:03where they're probably going to plan for 60 games in a season.
56:05And they're going to be able to share it through the Cups
56:07and in the Premier League.
56:08But they're definitely going to have two goalkeepers they believe in
56:10and he'll be one of them.
56:11You're sitting down for a cup of tea with Pep on Friday, aren't you?
56:13Yes, certainly.
56:14Question number one, isn't it?
56:15Well, exactly.
56:16Well, no, I've got another question before then.
56:17Yeah.
56:20Danny, of course, one more game to go this weekend.
56:23Leeds United back in the Premier League up against Everton
56:26who have in their line-up Jack Grealish,
56:30which is obviously, for Grealish, a great opportunity
56:33to try and kind of invoke some of the stats that we saw
56:36from his career about two or three years ago,
56:38which seemed to have just waned a bit in the last couple of seasons.
56:40Yeah, it's a fresh challenge for him.
56:42I think it's a good move.
56:43He'll be the main man.
56:44He'll probably play centrally.
56:46You know that Moise will set up players behind him to protect him
56:50and let him go and show his creative side.
56:52Is that a good match-up for you, Moise and Grealish?
56:54Yeah, well, we've seen...
56:55Look, Moise brought players like Kudos into West Ham,
56:58who's, you know, a flair player.
56:59He did wonders with Lingard when he took him to West Ham on loan.
57:02So there's no reason why it can't work.
57:04I mean, I think a lot of it's going to be down to Jack's hunger
57:07and desire, which seems there, the appetite.
57:09He wants to be in the World Cup squad and he's a terrific player.
57:12And the other advantage is the fact that when teams play Everton,
57:15it's not going to be like when you play for Man City, packed defences.
57:18He's going to be in a game where teams are...
57:21There's going to be space.
57:22Yeah.
57:23And he's a dribbler and he makes things happen.
57:24I'm excited for him.
57:25I think it could be a really good move.
57:26You played under Moise?
57:27Yeah, I did.
57:28You know, Moise makes it very clear.
57:30You have to work hard on your team and you're going to have a very regimented...
57:33The way I look at him though, the way he did it, especially when I was at West Ham,
57:36we kind of had nine players particularly needed working hard and sticking to it.
57:40But he allowed the room for the Anatovic, the Jack Grealish in your team,
57:44to play with freedom and flow and run the show.
57:47And I feel like it's going to be...
57:48I'm really excited to see how it plays out.
57:50The other thing with Jack quickly as well is that the year when he had his best season,
57:52when they won the treble, his defensive work was great.
57:54Yeah.
57:55It's not like he's unreliable in that respect.
57:57He's not a selfish player at all.
57:59So you can definitely get the full package from him, if he's the main man.
58:03Yeah, it'd be great to see that joy back of him kind of running through defensively
58:06with the ball at his feet, wouldn't it?
58:08And of course, good luck to Leeds as well, back in the Premier League.
58:10Yeah, absolutely.
58:11Thank you very much, guys.
58:12Let's have a little look, shall we, at the table.
58:14Very early days, I know.
58:16But Nottingham Forest win takes them up to fifth in this embryonic Premier League table
58:21with Arsenal sixth.
58:22Manchester United a 15th for now, the same position they ended last season
58:26with Brentford two places below them.
58:28So thank you very much to Danny and to Joe.
58:311-0 to the Arsenal.
58:32Sounds familiar.
58:33Business as usual round here.
58:35Weekend one done.
58:36Goodnight.
58:46Yes!
58:56Oh no!
58:59.
59:03.
59:05.
59:07.
