00:00DAP Secretary General Lok Siu-fuk has dismissed claims that the urban renewal bill is merely
00:06his party's agenda, saying it is part of the government's broader initiative.
00:10According to Sinar Harian, he said no bill can be tabled in parliament without cabinet
00:14approval, adding that the prime minister himself had repeatedly affirmed his commitment to
00:19redeveloping old and dilapidated public housing.
00:23Lok added that he was open to discussing any shortcomings in the bill and criticized the
00:27opposition for playing up claims that the bill was on the DAP agenda.
00:32The transport minister said the bill should not be politicized, noting that it had already
00:36been considered when Perikata Nacional was in power.
00:39On Thursday, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Korming said the bill would be amended
00:44to reflect a new consent rule after the proposed law received pushback from MPs and civil groups.
00:51He said all redevelopment projects under the bill would now require the agreement of 80%
00:55of owners, regardless of the age of the building.
00:58Previously, the bill had proposed a lower consent threshold for certain types of buildings,
01:03namely 75% for those over 30 years old, and only 51% for abandoned or unsafe ones.
