00:00DAP's Shirlina Abdul Rashid today accused PAS Youth of resorting to sensationalism when
00:07criticising the proposed Urban Renewal Act following the wing's bizarre parallels between
00:12the legislation and the plight of the Palestinians.
00:15In a statement, Shirlina described PAS Youth's protests as a masterclass in political absurdity,
00:20saying that Malaysians were not under siege nor was the government bulldozing homes in
00:24occupied territories.
00:28She said the government was not even displacing communities through military force, and comparing
00:32a legitimate urban planning policy to Zionist aggression is not only intellectually dishonest
00:38but dangerously irresponsible.
00:40PAS Youth Deputy Chief Hafiz Zabri had drawn parallels with the plight of the Palestinians
00:45when insisting that the bill would pressure urbanites, especially the poorer Malays, to
00:49relocate and hand over their land.
00:52Shirlina, who previously defended the proposed law, said the Urban Renewal Act was about
00:57revitalising cities, preventing decay and ensuring safer, better living environments.
01:03She said instead of championing progress, PAS Youth prefers their usual theatrics of
01:07manufacturing outrage over policies they barely understand.
01:12However, yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that the proposed act would not force
01:17property owners to give up their homes or alter the ethnic composition of residential
01:22areas.
