00:00The family of murdered Mongolian national Altantuya Sharibu has applied for leave on Tuesday
00:06to commence judicial review proceedings in compelling the authorities to investigate the contents of an affidavit submitted by Azila Hadri.
00:14Lawyer Sangit Khodio said Altantuya's father Sharibu Satif was seeking several orders in relation to the affidavit affirmed by Azila on September 23, 2024,
00:24which included a statutory declaration dated October 17, 2019.
00:31In January, it was reported that Altantuya's family had called on the government to launch an inquiry into various allegations made by Azila in the affidavit,
00:39alleging that the Attorney General's chambers had not contested Azila's claims,
00:43that he had received orders from high-ranking government officials to eliminate and dispose of Altantuya.
00:49Last October, the federal court allowed an application by Azila one of two former Special Action Unit officers convicted of Altantuya's murder 18 years ago
00:59and commuted the death sentence previously imposed on him to 40 years' imprisonment.
01:04Former Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who chaired the bench, said the apex court,
01:09had relied on the contents of the additional affidavit and the statutory declaration
01:13when applying the proportionality principle to reduce Azila's sentence,
01:18with Sangit adding that both documents were undisputed and unrebutted by the prosecution.
01:23In 2009, the Shah Alam High Court convicted Azila and his colleague Cyril Asha Umar of Altantuya's murder.
01:30The convictions were overturned by the Court of Appeal in 2013,
01:34but restored by the federal court two years later, with both accused sentenced to death.
01:39Cyril fled to Australia before the final verdict was announced and remains there today.
