00:00First and foremost, the 49ers had an incredibly frustrating football game,
00:06their first loss of the year.
00:08Kyle Shanahan spoke this morning.
00:09Brock Purdy says the toe is hurting.
00:11Ricky Pearsall is a maybe.
00:13Jawan Jennings is a maybe, and it feels like there's another game in two hours.
00:16It's actually in about 72 hours, but it feels, based on this injury report,
00:21like it's coming any minute now.
00:23So we're going to get you all set for that,
00:25and we'll talk out everything Niners-related.
00:27In the meantime, also, Bob Melvin has been fired.
00:30As the manager of the San Francisco Giants, Buster Posey spoke this morning.
00:33We'll have some of that.
00:35Also, it's Warriors media day.
00:37Yay, Jimmy Butler and Buddy Heald are back making fun of one another.
00:41That's tons of fun.
00:42Steve Kerr won't talk.
00:43I've never heard of a media day where the head coach doesn't speak,
00:46and I think it is representative of the fact that the Warriors are just beyond livid
00:52that September 29th is here,
00:54and their situation with their contracts and their potential free agents and all of this
00:59still is in some sort of a state of flux.
01:03Add it all up for me, and boy, we would love to hear your reactions.
01:08The fun thing about today is we often kind of like create a small lane for you,
01:13and then you can engage and talk to us on that.
01:16The lane is much wider today.
01:18So, all of these things are on the table.
01:22At 888-957-9570, we would love your thoughts and your reaction to any of it,
01:28whatever it is that's hitting you today.
01:31The Niner loss, the Giants managerial change,
01:35the Warriors continue to be in a state of flux,
01:37and we're trucking toward October 1st like a runaway train.
01:41So, that's all on the table, and I add it all up, Dibs,
01:45and I find today, while a huge day, a big day, and an interesting day,
01:50I find today to be one of the more frustrating days I can remember as a Bay Area sports fan
01:56because it's representative of the fact that all three are in some sort of a state of disarray
02:04as we sit here at this hour.
02:06Yeah, and it's an interesting word to use, frustration, and I look at the 49ers,
02:12and yeah, that's a frustrating loss to a team that was almost as sloppy as you were.
02:17You were a little sloppier.
02:18You didn't take advantage of their slop with a couple of balls that were up for grabs
02:22that you were unable to get, and as a result, you lost,
02:25and you even got gifted late in the game with a missed field goal,
02:29which allowed you to drive down and win the game, perhaps,
02:32and you got the ball at your own 37, not that far to go, needing 63 yards,
02:37and two plays later, it was over.
02:39So, it was frustrating in a number of different ways.
02:42You mentioned Christian McCaffrey's hands.
02:44Kendrick Bourne, who, whatever, you can dismiss it as like,
02:48ah, whatever, we don't need Kendrick Bourne.
02:50Suddenly, you need Kendrick Bourne.
02:51You sure do.
02:52You may not have Pearsall.
02:53You may not have Jennings.
02:54You still don't have Iyuk.
02:55So, you might be looking at Bourne and Moore and Robinson as your receivers coming in on Thursday.
03:03So, yeah, that was frustrating.
03:05The Warriors one to me, I'm kind of just over it,
03:08and, yeah, it'd be great if everything was done
03:09and media day could have been all chuckles and laughs and the whole rest of it,
03:14but the frustration for me has been there so long, I've kind of gotten used to it,
03:18and that's, I guess, where I am with the Giants, too.
03:20I'm a little surprised they fired Bob Melvin,
03:22but not after hearing from Buster today, and like you were mentioning last week,
03:27you could see some of the breadcrumbs come out,
03:29and so now the big job is, all right, Buster, you're the boss.
03:32Go out there and find somebody who will be different than what you had
03:35because 81-81 is almost worse than going 70-92.
03:40Yeah, it kind of is.
03:41You know what I mean?
03:41Yeah.
03:42If you were 70-92, it would have been, all right, Bryce, get up here in August,
03:45and we could have gone young guys all the way.
03:48Instead, all this fool's gold in August and September,
03:51and you wind up right where you started, a 500 club again.
03:5581-81, knowing that 84 wins gets you into the playoffs this year,
03:59I think is even more frustrating when you think back to how many games,
04:02and I know every team has their full year in their memory bank
04:06where they're like, ooh, we blew that one and we blew that one,
04:08but like with the Giants revolving door at closer
04:11and the selling at the deadline and all of the things that they did,
04:16to look at some of those games and realize that three more piddly wins,
04:21three more piddly wins, you'd have ended up in the playoffs.
04:24Do you know that they ended up in front of the Diamondbacks?
04:26They actually were the third-place team this year as it turned out.
04:29Hooray.
04:29Yeah.
04:29Hooray.
04:30No, but they sweep at the end of the year to get to 81-81,
04:34and you look up and you're like, oh, my God,
04:36like they finished two games out,
04:38and if they had won three more baseball games this year,
04:40all those games they blew.
04:43If they win three of them, we've got more baseball coming up this week.
04:46Right, playoff baseball.
04:47Yeah, but no, it doesn't happen.
04:49And so, again, yeah, I find that to be just unimaginable
04:53and totally frustrating and a little bit.
04:57I still sit here looking back on that season and scratch the head.
05:02I scratch the head.
05:02The good thing about the 49ers situation is that's not –
05:07I'm not scratching my head there.
05:10The Giants have me scratching my head.
05:12Kaminga's got me scratching my head.
05:14The Niners don't have me so much scratching my head.
05:18That one is just frustrating because the 49ers this year so far,
05:24first of all, they're 3-1,
05:25so I don't know how you can be overly frustrated.
05:28Exactly.
05:28The season, it's still in good shape,
05:30but I also get that looking forward, it just fills you with anxiety
05:34because that classic knee bone is attached to the thigh bone
05:39and the thigh bone with the hip bone.
05:41That's what I see as 49er football.
05:43I know a lot of you want to purdy this and purdy that,
05:45and he was bad yesterday.
05:46There's no two ways about that.
05:48There's no escaping it.
05:49But I just see a complete chain-link fence of bad.
05:53That, like, nobody could catch the ball.
05:56They're not blocking.
05:57They won't run the ball.
05:58Their quarterback's not taking care of the ball.
06:00They can't rush the passer.
06:02And, my God, what's it going to take for special teams to be good around here?
06:07It looked like they were starting to get closer.
06:09What's it going to take?
06:11Right.
06:11I mean, I just, like, I mean, my God, are you kidding me?
06:17Pretty bad.
06:18It cost you a clean 10 points.
06:20My God.
06:21Because the toot and 54-yard return right before halftime set them up into great position.
06:26Oh, and then D winners with an immediate face mask on the next penalty.
06:30And so, now they're at the 26-yard line.
06:33Whoop.
06:33Easy three.
06:34And then the punt return.
06:35And I've always had people tell my wife that I outkicked my coverage.
06:40And she has never understood that.
06:42So, I'm going to show her that film.
06:44She doesn't get it?
06:45She doesn't get the reference?
06:46She does.
06:46And I have to explain it to her.
06:48She's more of a baseball gal than she is a football person.
06:50Right, right, right.
06:51And so, when I say, well, the punter kicks it so far that the guys won't do the tackling.
06:55They can't get down there fast enough.
06:57That's what that was.
06:58It was a booming punt.
06:59And the gunner missed him.
07:01And nobody else would touch him.
07:0286 yards later.
07:04Special teams, my friends.
07:05But you've explained to her that what people are saying to you guys.
07:08Right.
07:08Because I get it, too.
07:09Is that your girl is prettier than you are.
07:12You get that, right?
07:13You just tell her that so she understands that?
07:15She is the booming punt.
07:16Okay.
07:17And I'm basically the returner.
07:19Yeah.
07:19And, you know, I stagger out of bounds like the Jacksonville one did.
07:24So, I'm frustrated a lot by a lot of things.
07:28I do think the defense is kind of getting dragged down unfairly.
07:31But at the end of it, I look at 3-1, and boy, Thursday's big.
07:36And I just wish that they were a little healthier for that.
07:38That'd be good.
07:39Yeah, like, I want to make sure that everyone, at least for me, where I'm coming from defensively.
07:44I don't think today's a day to rip the defense.
07:47But today's a day to be very concerned about it.
07:50So, you're right.
07:52I thought that they did what they could based on the hand that they were being dealt.
07:57I also thought the Jaguars helped them.
07:59The Jaguars were not a good football team yesterday.
08:03And so...
08:04A lot of self-inflicted penalties.
08:05They were kind of silly, and I don't find them to be that effective.
08:09But they were able to do enough against a team that just played a very, very poor football game all the way around.
08:15My point is, is that, and actually, here's the way I'll say it.
08:19Hey, every single one of you who ripped Nick Bosa the last year and a half because you didn't like his sack total,
08:25do you all see now that he wasn't underperforming?
08:28Do you get that?
08:29Do you understand that he is one of those people that makes everyone around him better because he takes so much attention from an offensive line
08:37that it allows the Bryce Huffs, it allows the Mikel Williams to perform.
08:42And when he's not there, they can't do it.
08:45They can't do it on their own.
08:47So, I'll buy what you're saying, Dibs.
08:49The defense wasn't like a joke yesterday.
08:51I'm simply telling you that if that's the pass rush without Nick Bosa, you're dead this year.
08:58It has to be better.
09:00It has to be better.
09:00And so, you've got to find a way to do that because I don't know if anyone's taking your trade call yet.
09:04It's only week four.
09:06But you've got to, like, whatever it is, something's got to change because that pass rush, again, the stat you can all take home,
09:1410 years since the 49ers played a football game where they did not sack or hit the quarterback.
09:21It's the first one in a decade where that happened yesterday.
09:25And that's, it's only going to get worse when you play Matt Stafford and Baker Mayfield.
09:28That's the point.
09:29If you can get away with it when you take on Trevor Lawrence in an offense that had no interest in throwing the ball down the field,
09:36he threw 31 times for $1.74.
09:39That is 5.5 yards per attempt.
09:43So, yeah, go ahead and dink and dunk all you want.
09:46The only plays that hurt you, and this is where I was sharing this with our thread earlier today,
09:50you missed Nick Bosa the most on the ETN run because that would be a spot where Nick Bosa would have held the edge
09:58and he would have had to cut it back inside where you had some help.
10:01But Mikel Williams was out there for that play.
10:03He's better off on the interior.
10:05He's a young player.
10:06He got swallowed up by the block.
10:08The safety's over-pursued.
10:10And ETN had a lane right down the field.
10:12So, yes, the pass rush, and that's a galling stat about 10 years since you've had it that bad.
10:18If you don't have a pass rush, how are you going to get takeaways in the back end?
10:22You won't.
10:23But for me, the big miss was what Nick Bosa does in the run game,
10:27especially on that big 48-yard house call.
10:30888-957-9570 is the number.
10:32As you said, really, really want to hear from you today.
10:35I find the frustration to be almost kind of overwhelming based on what is happening with all three teams.
10:42But the 49ers have a very poor performance across the board.
10:47The Giants fire their manager, and the Warriors have media day,
10:50and they're all looking at each other going,
10:52You? Do you want to talk? What? Who?
10:54Who's the new people?
10:55Oh, they're not here yet.
10:57Like, it is a state of disarray.
11:01Different disarray, but disarray for all three teams, in my opinion.
