00:00You know, the Vikings, they've had a really long time to figure out who they wanted as their backup quarterback.
00:04And somehow they landed on Carson Wentz in the last 24 hours.
00:08Like, you know, it's a little bizarre to me to think that they had all this time with training camp and the offseason.
00:14But I suppose maybe we should look at it on the flip side.
00:17Should we give credit to their organization to say they really didn't like what they had?
00:21And this is the direction that they went?
00:22Because other than that, I can't figure this out.
00:25Yeah, they just need a little bit more experience and someone they could lean on if there's going to be something that happens to J.J. McCarthy or there's any regression with that knee injury.
00:33And I think with the guys that they had, I mean, Brett Rippon was looking terrible the other day in the preseason game.
00:39And then you had Sam Howell.
00:41Look, I didn't think he exactly fit what they want to do.
00:43I'm not sure Sam Howell fits anything any team wants to do.
00:47But good for them to get something for him.
00:50And I think Howell's biggest calling card right now is his mobility and moving around and being able to run.
00:56But that's not the type of Vikings quarterbacks they want with Kevin O'Connell.
01:00They want a guy in the pocket, strong, can stand it, or can move a little bit, but not necessarily have to take off and run.
01:06So I think Carson Wentz more fits that mentality.
01:08Keep in mind there was a short cup of coffee with the Rams that he had.
01:12And there's a little connection there with Sean McVay and the Kevin O'Connell type of scheme here.
01:16So I think they just felt comfortable.
01:18We need a little bit more seasoning.
01:20And look, if Carson Wentz is good enough for the Chiefs back up and Andy Reid, the Vikings have to say he can pick up their system.
01:27And he is a little bit familiar with their system as well.
01:29So I think it's just an issue of having a little bit more experience behind McCarthy that they could somewhat feel comfortable with if McCarthy couldn't play a game.
