00:00There are five teams in the NFL that are currently going to carry four quarterbacks,
00:08four active, one with Dylan Gabriel with Cleveland that won't be active.
00:13But this is kind of crazy.
00:16When you stop to take a look at quarterbacks, what is this?
00:22Four teams in the NFL are keeping four quarterbacks for their initial 53-man roster.
00:30The Steelers, you get it, right?
00:33Aaron Rodgers, last year, getting up there in age.
00:36Mike McCarthy needs quarterbacks.
00:38Will Howard and Drew Aller played pretty well in the preseason, so they're keeping four quarterbacks.
00:45But the Eagles?
00:46The Eagles are keeping four quarterbacks?
00:48The Vikings?
00:50Why is Max Brosmer on the team if you're the Vikings?
00:53Why are you occupying a roster spot in the final 53-man roster?
00:57What is that?
00:58The Falcons, you understand why the Falcons are doing what they're doing.
01:02And Cleveland, well, look, Dylan Gabriel is hurt, so he's not counting for the 53-man roster.
01:07But you get what Cleveland's doing.
01:09They're a mess.
01:10I mean, Cleveland's trying to figure out what to do.
01:12Who could give us the best chance to lose all 17 games?
01:15That's what Cleveland's doing.
01:16So whether it be Jador Sanders or Sean Watson, Dylan Gabriel, it doesn't really matter who's going to play quarterback
01:22for Cleveland.
01:23They're going to be bad.
01:24But could this be the future of NFL roster building?
01:29If we have four different teams saying, hey, the most important position on the football field is quarterback.
01:36We don't feel great about our number one.
01:39We might like our number one, but we don't love our number one.
01:43So let's go and try to find options.
01:46Let's see if we can create a competition at some point.
01:51Let's keep all four quarterbacks.
01:53You know, all 53 guys don't travel.
01:56All 53 guys don't dress on game day.
01:59That's 45, right?
02:0145 players dress on game day.
02:03So you aren't dressing all of these quarterbacks.
02:06However, you are going to say that these guys belong on your roster so nobody else can take them.
02:15And you're going to pay them.
02:16You're paying these players.
02:17When they make the roster, their contract kicks on and they're part of your team.
02:21So there is a, you know, if you cut these guys, there's a cost to it.
02:27Roster building normally was three quarterbacks.
02:30You carried two active and one inactive.
02:33Now there's four and there's four teams doing it.
02:36Really, there's five teams doing it that are saying, look it, the quarterback spot is too important.
02:43Forget a backup tight end.
02:45Forget a backup running back.
02:47I mean, there was once a day where you carried four running backs.
02:51That doesn't happen anymore.
02:53So I get the idea.
02:55If somebody goes down, if a team has an injury in week one, week two, whatever it might be, that,
03:01hey, you have a potential starting quarterback for a team sitting there that you could go and trade, right?
03:07So do I think Max Brosmer is going to be a starting quarterback in the NFL?
03:11I don't.
03:12But you could trade Carson Wentz if you're the Vikings, right?
03:16So if somebody gets a massive injury, it's like, okay, we got to trade for somebody.
03:20We'll trade Carson Wentz.
03:21If you're Andy Dalton and you're looking at your potential and someone has a big injury, maybe you go to
03:27the Eagles and say, hey, we want Andy Dalton.
03:29Those are two proven veterans who can step in.
03:31Cooper Rush being another guy who's potentially out there that teams might go and try to trade for.
03:37So is this just we're going to build the quarterback room?
03:40We're going to stockpile talent so when an injury happens, we have the ability to trade one of our quarterbacks
03:47and get something for him.
03:48So, okay, that might be the strategic move and that might be the future for, you know, it's the old
03:54Bear Bryant way of recruiting.
03:57Bear Bryant used to go and recruit the top three, four, and five quarterbacks and stick them on his roster
04:03so they couldn't go anywhere to keep the players away from his rivals, from everybody else.
04:08So if he had the two best quarterbacks in the South on his own roster, he knew he wouldn't be
04:13facing those quarterbacks.
04:14So maybe the teams feel like don't give the option, don't cut these guys and put them on the street
04:22because they're pretty good quarterbacks and they're going to wind up popping in pretty quickly.
04:26You know, they're going to get picked up pretty fast.
04:29So I don't know.
04:30Only 53 guys can be kept.
04:32Four of the 53 going to quarterbacks is definitely a change.
04:38Maybe a sign of the times.
04:40Maybe it's just logic.
04:41The most important position in all of sports is the quarterback.
04:45So why not have as many options as possible?
04:48So if you do have injuries throughout the year, and frankly, again, look at the teams we're talking about in
04:54terms of their age of their quarterbacks, right?
04:56Tua and Penix are already hurt.
04:58I mean, both those guys are dealing with pretty big injuries.
05:01Penix coming back off of a knee injury.
05:04Kyler Murray gets hurt every year.
05:05We know this.
05:06Jalen Hurts.
05:07Okay, he doesn't get hurt all that often, but there's a lot of questions about Jalen Hurts.
05:11Even with the success he has had.
05:13And Aaron Rodgers is on his last contract.
05:16He's retiring at the end of the year.
05:18Mason Rudolph's been a backup forever.
05:21Will Howard and Drew Aller both played well enough in the preseason to be kept by Mike McCarthy, who is
05:27a first-year head coach, who has to be looking at his career after Aaron Rodgers and developing guys.
05:32And Cleveland, again, I don't know what the hell Cleveland's doing.
05:36Cleveland is, I mean, they have to start Deshaun Watson, but I don't think they really have any clue what
05:42they want to do with the quarterback position at the moment.
05:46Besides, just keep everybody.
05:47I don't think they're going to be able to do with the quarterback position at the moment.
05:47I don't think they're going to be able to do with the quarterback position at the moment.
05:47I don't think they're going to be able to do with the quarterback position at the moment.
