00:00Hello and welcome to this Western Australian James weather update for Monday.
00:04We have got moisture that is pouring in, but I waited till later on in the day to show you this here
00:09because there is so much to see to our west.
00:12Look at all that speckled cloud. Look how far north it extends.
00:15That is a mass of cold air. It is energy. It is instability.
00:20It is a huge weather system. It's driven by this low that is down to our south here
00:24and it is going to slowly move eastwards as the week goes on, producing a very large weather system.
00:30I also want to show you just how far back that extends to let you know how much longer we're going to be dealing with it.
00:36OK, so let's have a look day by day what to expect in through here.
00:39Here's our cloud band, so that's barely affecting us anymore.
00:42Instead, we've got the low that is now here by the end of the day.
00:45We've got winds going straight up from the south.
00:48So that's from near Antarctica, which is why it is so freezing out there today.
00:52We've got all the wet weather associated with that.
00:53I want to point out where the high pressure is.
00:56Well, that sounds unusual. Low pressure brings us wet weather.
00:58But high pressure also tells us where our air is coming from and where those weather systems can actually move.
01:04First of all, the high out to the east is up here, southeast Queensland, northeast New South Wales.
01:09That has moved it out of the way of the southeast, allowing these weather systems to move through.
01:13That had been acting like a block and not letting them come in.
01:17Where's the next high pressure system?
01:18It is so far to the west of us. It is off this page here.
01:21It is so far back to the west.
01:24So we need to wait for that to come in in order for this rain system to shut off and move out to the east.
01:30OK, so here we are during the day on Monday.
01:32We've got this pouring in between Port Hedland and Broome.
01:35But from tomorrow, that has pretty much stopped up through there.
01:37It's in the southwest that we're seeing it.
01:40And in the southeast, they're going to get lots of wet weather out from here.
01:42They are wanting that rain, so they're very, very happy about it.
01:45Here's what we have left on Tuesday.
01:47Here's what we have left on Wednesday.
01:49Here's what we have left on Thursday.
01:51So it starts to decrease, particularly in the west there.
01:54The high is still off the coast here by Thursday.
01:57Where is it by Friday?
01:58Starting to come across.
01:59So that's when things really ease and the wind starts to back off in that southwestern corner.
02:03But instead, we'll get the gusty easterlies coming in.
02:06So high pressure is there by the end of Friday.
02:08It is there by the end of Saturday.
02:09And it's over here by the end of Sunday.
02:11So by the end of Sunday, it is a big sweeping high that is across pretty much all of that southern part of the country.
02:17And through there, stopping the wet weather finally in the southeast.
02:20But for us, it ends a few days earlier.
02:23Let's see how much that is going to add up to the southeast.
02:25Very happy to get this rain here.
02:27It's not an east coast system.
02:29It dries out as it moves across the ranges there.
02:31Over in the southwest, we're looking at 25 to 50 millimetres.
02:34We're not seeing the best from this.
02:35The southeast is.
02:36And it decreases steadily as you head inland.
02:39So 10 to 15, 5 to 10 by the time you're getting through here.
02:42Not much from that rain band as it moves across the northwest.
02:45This might be something that we see next week.
02:48Right.
02:48So does that move for Perth?
02:49A very chilly day.
02:51We've got gusty showers moving through.
02:53They're cold.
02:54They have some wintry hail in them.
02:55They've got rumbles of thunder.
02:57So we've got the full mess of that activity happening during the day today.
03:0010 millimetres left.
03:014 millimetres tomorrow.
03:038.
03:03It increases as we move through Wednesday and then it really backs off.
03:07So it's Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday that we're seeing most of this.
03:10And the cold air is really here today.
03:1215, 16 after that.
03:14Then it slowly warms as we go into the weekend.
03:16So things look much, much better by the end of the week.
03:19As always, head to File Online Weather for the latest.
