00:00Hello and welcome to this Janesweather update. This is for South Australia updated on Monday.
00:07We have a cold front that is moving through. It delivered big falls to the west as it passed
00:11through on the weekend. It had a connection to tropical moisture. It had lots of instability.
00:16It is now rapidly losing both of those and you can already see it. The rain really isn't extending
00:21very far inland. We've got this bit of cloud out ahead of it but this really is what is left from
00:26this weather system. That's going to slide across the southeast. Then the next one starts to build
00:30in the southwest. It will bring us a bigger impact from that. All right let's have a look at day by
00:35day. Here we are by the end of Monday. You see the cold front is running in through here. Really the
00:40tip of it's here just southwest of Adelaide. It's quite vertical by this stage so it's running out
00:46of instability. The low pressure there is 1020. That's not very low. The next high pressure system
00:52is already in through here by the end of today. And here's the rain across today. You'll notice it
00:57is a very coastal feature rather than anything that is moving very inland because it's lost that
01:02connection to moisture. So there we are for Monday. Let's have a look at Tuesday. The remains of that
01:07moving across the southeast. 5 to 10 millimeters in the southeast. 2 to 5 here. Not much more for Adelaide
01:12as it comes in. By the end of Tuesday that's where the high pressure system just back west of
01:17Adelaide there. Moving across the southeast and into Wednesday. High now out to our east by the end
01:23of Wednesday. Next weather system starting in through there. Let's put this in for Thursday.
01:28By the end of Thursday I want you to see where the cold front is. It is running down in through here.
01:34It is also on an angle so it has a different trajectory. It's not losing steam. It's not losing
01:39power. It also has a lovely connection to tropical moisture here because high pressure has split
01:45allowing that feed to come through. I'm going to put another feature onto this map here now.
01:50It's called snow level sickness. This tells us how warm or cool the atmosphere actually is. The
01:55column of air that is above us. Now have a look at this here. Lovely pattern. This is all of the
02:00checked the dashed lines here. We're looking at snow level as in how low the snow can fall. This one
02:06here is 1800 meters, 1500 meters, 1200 meters, 900 meters, 600, 300 and sea level. Now all of that is buried down
02:15there over the southern ocean. But that cold air is heading inland because the trajectory of this
02:20one here is back like this and it's on its way through. So this is by the end of Thursday.
02:25Let's have a look at Friday. Snow to 1500 meters here, 1200 meters here south of Adelaide,
02:30900 meters in the southeast corner. So it may get some snow on the very peaks in through here. As it
02:36comes in you're going to feel a cold punch of air as it does. Plus our isobars are fairly squeezed so
02:42there's a bit of wind that comes with that. But the wet weather, let's have a look at this. Anything
02:45green is 5 to 10 millimeters, 10 to 15 in that southeast corner as that moves through. So a nice
02:52little one here that a little bit of rain extends right up into these inland parts too. That's for
02:57Friday. Let's have a look at Saturday. Most of the action is now over the southeast there. We've got a
03:02little bit that's coming into the southeast and parts of South Australia. Cold air galore extending
03:06right up into the northern parts of New South Wales. Proper cold outbreak. Wintry hail with this
03:12as it comes through. That's Saturday. We've got another front that is now in through here and
03:17again it's got some cold air in behind it. So by Sunday there is that cold air focused on the
03:22southeast but we're getting the very edge of that as it comes through. Thursday, Friday is going to be
03:26the coldest part for us but we're going to get a little bit more as it comes in across the weekend
03:31and then into Monday that is moving out. That's as we move through and then into Tuesday there's
03:36still a little bit more of that to go but we are now in the clear as the next weather system builds
03:41over in the west. In terms of totals let's have a look here. 25 to 50 millimeters. Anything in yellow
03:47there in that far southeast corner. 15 to 25 here. 10 to 15. It does as always steadily degrade as you
03:55move inland because there is that tropical moisture connection but it's not strong enough. So there are
04:00some nice totals as it comes in. Significant but not hugely significant. Okay and let's have a look
04:07at what that means for Adelaide. We've got light rain at times as that cold front slides across
04:11us today. Early morning tomorrow then out to mostly sunny. So 20 today we're going to take a hit in
04:17temperatures at 16 is the maximum for tomorrow. 15 then on Wednesday but lots of sunshine. On Thursday
04:24temperatures jumped back up again but we saw that system approaching. It was just to our southwest by the
04:29end of Thursday. So temperatures absolutely plummet as we go into Friday. Top of 13. Top of 12. Top of
04:3513. Friday. Rain at times then lots of showers are likely. Rain at times possible showers. So Friday
04:42is the big day for us in terms of wet weather coming through the Adelaide area which the models have an
04:47average of 11 millimeters. So we're going up and down during the week and there is a cold outbreak as we
