00:13investigated by the department two years ago. Harian Metro reported that 45-year-old Amir
00:19Zubir was accused of receiving 8,000 ringgit from a company owner investigated by Jais'
00:25Halal Management Division as an inducement to reduce the compound payment. Charged under Section 17A of
00:32the MACC Act, he faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine not less than five times the
00:40value of the bribe or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher, upon conviction. The father of three was
00:47also slapped with an alternative charge for the same offence under Section 165 of the Penal Code,
00:52which provides for imprisonment of two years or a fine or both. MACC prosecutor Mohamed Alimi
01:00Mustafa proposed bail of 15,000 ringgit with additional conditions. Lawyer Swinder Singh,
01:07representing the accused, requested lower bail considering his client has served Jais for 25
01:13years and is the sole breadwinner for his wife and three children as well as his 75-year-old ailing
01:19mother. The court allowed bail of 8,000 ringgit with one surety and approved the additional conditions
01:25proposed by the prosecution. The case is set for mention on September 24.
