00:02Three officers from the Selayang Municipal Council, or MPS, pleaded not guilty in the
00:08Shah Alam Sessions Court on Wednesday to charges of accepting bribes in connection with business
00:12license applications and permit approvals. Muhammad Fauzan Hezbollah, Muhammad Hazri
00:18Nordin, and Muhammad Aizuddin, Muhammad Yusuf, entered their pleas after the charges were read
00:23before Sessions Court Judge Awang Karisnada, Awang Mahmood. Muhammad Fauzan, an assistant
00:29architectural officer with MPS, was accused of receiving 1,000 ringgit as an inducement to
00:35recommend an architect during a temporary annual permit application. Muhammad Hazri, an MPS
00:41administrative assistant, faced two charges of receiving 500 ringgit and 700 ringgit from the
00:47same individual, allegedly to facilitate a restaurant's business license application.
00:52Both were charged under Section 17, Subsection A of the M.A.C.C. Act 2009, an offense carrying up
00:59to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of at least five times the bribe amount, or 10,000 ringgit,
01:05whichever is higher. Muhammad Aizuddin, also an assistant architectural officer, was charged
01:11under Section 165 of the Penal Code with receiving 1,350 ringgit from a tire company owner, despite
01:18allegedly knowing the businessman had official dealings with him in his capacity as a public officer.
01:24That charge carries up to two years imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.
01:30The three allegedly committed the offenses between January 20th and July 13th, 2020.
01:35The court granted bail for all three and fixed next mention in September.
