The prosecution has closed its case against former Perlis Mentri Besar Azlan Man after calling 21 witnesses in his corruption and money laundering trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noralis Mat told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Friday (June 19) that the prosecution will not offer witnesses to the defence.

00:00The prosecution has closed its case against former Perlis Menteri Basar, Datuk Seri Aslan Maan,
00:05after calling 21 witnesses in his corruption and money laundering trial.
00:10Deputy Public Prosecutor Nuralis Matt informed the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday
00:15that the prosecution does not intend to offer any witnesses to the defence,
00:19should Aslan be called to defend himself.
00:22The announcement came after the final witness.
00:24A senior Ministry of Higher Education official completed her testimony.
00:29Judge Azura Alwi set July 30th for both sides to file written submissions,
00:34with replies due by September 7th.
00:3767-year-old Aslan faces 15 charges in total.
00:40Five relate to false travel claims worth more than 1.18 million ringgit for overseas leave,
00:45allegedly made between 2013 and 2017.
00:49Another five accuse him of receiving 1.06 million ringgit in proceeds from illegal activity,
00:55while a further five alternative charges accuse him of criminal breach of trust
00:59involving the same sum of state government money.
01:02The trial began in July 2024,
01:05with witnesses including a former state executive council secretary,
01:09Aslan's former private secretary,
01:11and an M.A.C.C. investigating officer.
01:14If convicted on the most serious charge,
01:17Aslan faces up to 20 years in prison.
