00:00I am here with Ashley Gourley, and you are here in honor of Jelly Roll, correct?
00:05I am, yes.
00:05So he has taken this town by storm.
00:08Why do you think he's had such a huge impact?
00:10Oh my gosh, what a dude, man.
00:12I mean, even the song I'm playing tonight, it's either for him or nobody.
00:16You know what I mean?
00:16He does songs that only he can do.
00:17I think that's Mark of a true artist.
00:19So I think he's just really hit people in the heart.
00:21He means it.
00:22He loves everybody.
00:22He's just a great dude.
00:24Really fun to have written some stuff for him because it's totally different than everything else I'll work on for sure.
00:28Oh, nice.
00:29It scratches a totally different itch, I'm sure.
00:31It does, yeah.
00:31I mean, I'm playing I'm Not Okay, and I'm usually not on this side.
00:34I'm never the artist on stage playing.
00:35I'm not an artist.
00:37I'll get super nervous, but hopefully it'll be over soon.
00:40Well, you don't seem nervous now.
00:41You seem calm and collected.
00:44Does it, like, do you like performing?
00:46No.
00:46No?
00:47How did they convince you to do this?
00:48I'm not willing because it's for him, you know, or I wouldn't have done it.
00:51I would not do this for me or for some other people, but just because the song's been such a big deal to so many people.
00:55And, you know, we have the project that we're all kind of rocking these t-shirts just in support of some mental health and what the song talks about.
01:02And a lot of creatives and writers are doing these intensive therapy sessions, and we're hearing great things back.
01:07So just trying to keep that going.
01:09And it's one of those songs he tells me every night when he's playing in his show, he sees all these signs and makes a big difference.
01:13And so we want to keep that train going.
01:15So with it being this song and for him, I had to say yes.
01:19Well, I think that's one of the things that's really special about this award show in particular is it shines a light on all different sides of the industry
01:25and gives a voice to people that sometimes we don't get to hear.
01:30Musicians, all that stuff.
01:31I love that about it.
01:32Yeah, you've got to honor the musicians.
01:33They're great.
01:33Now, you had some songs on the Morgan Wallen album, and I know that he decided to take his album out of the Grammys.
01:40How does that feel to the community, to you?
01:43I mean, that's fine with me.
01:45We're in the Never Won a Grammy Club, you know, together.
01:48So I was at his show on Saturday night, and that's what matters most to us.
01:53The fans, the reactions, the way those songs are coming out are so amazing.
01:55What a great set.
01:56I took the family up to Cleveland to see that show.
01:59So, yeah, that's kind of what we're thinking about.
02:00We're not thinking about Grammys when we're writing the songs.
02:02So, I mean, all good.
02:03I'll take one if somebody wants to give me one.
02:04But at the same time, we're all good with that.
02:06We're all kind of writing from a different place and really doing.
02:09And he's saying what he wants to say at this point, as he should.
02:11You know, he's had an amazing career, crushing it.
02:14And so totally respect his opinion on that, for sure.
02:17Well, I appreciate that answer.
02:18I'm also in the Never Won a Grammy Club.
02:19And I think it's really nice to be reminded sometimes that we get so stuck on these things that actually that's not why we make music.
02:26And your answer, the way you described the show, that's what it's all about.
02:30So thank you.
02:30Impacting the fans, man.
02:31It's so fun to see that.
02:32So hopefully, you know, songs like I'm playing tonight, those make that impact.
02:35And that's what means the most to us as writers, for sure.
