00:00I'm here with Reecee Palmer and congratulations on winning the Lift Every Voice Award,
00:05which celebrates, you know, your impact on some underrepresented voices.
00:09So what does this award mean to you?
00:11This means everything.
00:13Like, this was work that I kind of stumbled into,
00:15definitely not what I started my career thinking that I was going to be doing,
00:19but probably one of the most meaningful parts of music for me.
00:24So this means a lot to me.
00:26And you're in your fifth year of hosting your Apple show,
00:28Color Me Country.
00:30So how do you feel that has changed the conversation in country music?
00:33Well, it's given us a place, to be honest,
00:35like giving artists of color a place to not only share their music,
00:40but share stories that you may not necessarily feel comfortable sharing with everyone.
00:44Yeah, it's like a safe space.
00:45That's what I like to think of it as.
00:47And so I feel like we're not hearing enough black voices on terrestrial radio.
00:51So what is it going to take?
00:53What do we got to do?
00:54Listen, whoever can figure that out will win the Nobel Peace Prize.
01:00I just think it's just a matter of taking a chance.
01:03I don't think they're taking enough chances on independent voices and independent artists
01:07because artists of color do great on streaming.
01:09Well, you're beginning this change.
01:14Your voice, your platforms, that is what it takes.
01:17Here's hoping.
01:17You're doing it, okay?
01:19Here's hoping.
01:19And that's why you're receiving this award tonight.
01:21And that's why we all just, like, everybody that's come through respects you so much
01:25and has had the most beautiful things to say about you.
01:27And you flew in for this just for the day.
01:31Yes.
01:32Did you just get in, like, last night?
01:33I got in last night from London, and I leave for London again tomorrow.
01:37Wow.
01:37We're in the middle of a run over in Europe, so, yeah.
01:41Oh, my gosh.
01:42Well, you don't look tired somehow.
01:44Oh, no, darling.
01:45It's good makeup, yes.
01:46But that means a lot that you would make this a priority in your life.
01:51Country music has been good to me, and I love country music.
01:54And so anytime I have an opportunity to be in a room with these types of,
01:59Randy Travis, then, yeah, I'm going to be there.
02:02Well, respect.
02:02All right, and also, lastly, you're releasing your EP in September.
02:06Yes.
02:06Congratulations.
02:08That's huge.
02:08What can you tell us about it?
02:09So this is like a, I'm calling this an amuse-buse,
02:12because I have an album, a full-length album coming out in January.
02:16And so this is like a little palate cleanser before the album comes out.
02:19I'm very excited.
02:20I'm working with Shannon Sanders, who is another,
02:23he won the same award I'm winning tonight last year.
02:26And he was one of my first producers when I came to Nashville,
02:29so it's like a full-circle moment.
02:31Yeah.
02:31Mm-hmm.
02:32Absolutely.
02:33I love it when all the dots connect like that.
02:35Yeah, they connect.
02:35It feels like meant to be.
02:37Mm-hmm.
02:37It's stars aligning.
02:38Absolutely.
02:39Well, we can't wait until September.
02:41Congratulations on tonight.
02:42Have the best night.
02:43And then safe travels.
02:45Thank you very much.
02:46I appreciate it.
02:47Awesome.
02:47Have fun.
