20 August - national forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good day to you. Now it's going to be a fine afternoon for many of us.
00:05There'll be some warm sunshine around, but not everywhere will have the warmth.
00:09Currently, yes, there is a front lingering across parts of the south-southwest,
00:13but it's quite a weak feature. So whilst it's bringing a bit of cloud as we go through the end
00:18of the morning into the afternoon, it's not bringing much, if any, rain, just a few drizzly
00:22spots. And actually, as the front clears away and the sun burns some of that cloud away,
00:27things are going to turn a bit brighter across parts of the south-west as well.
00:31Elsewhere as well, lots of fine sunny weather on offer. Not totally wall-to-wall blue skies. No,
00:37there will be some cloud around, but most of us will see some decent sunshine breaking through.
00:41And in that sunshine, well, it's going to feel relatively warm. Temperatures peaking generally
00:45in the high teens or although possibly mid-20s, 23, 24, perhaps somewhere towards the south.
00:51Worth bearing in mind, though, there is a bit more of a breeze towards the east and around these
00:55North Sea coastal parts, it's going to feel a fair bit fresher. So mid-teens perhaps for some
01:00places, and that breeze will add to the fresher feel as well. Then as we go through into this
01:05evening, most places staying fine, but not everywhere. There will be a few showery bursts
01:09across parts of Orkney and Shetland in particular. And a few of those showers could just about push
01:14into parts of mainland Scotland, the tip of Aberdeenshire, for example, and perhaps around the far
01:19southeast of England as well. The tip of Kent and maybe, sorry, the tip of Kent's there,
01:23and also the tip of East Anglia could see a few showers perhaps. But most places will have
01:27a dry night. There will be some clear skies, especially away from the east. And whilst most
01:32towns and cities are going to hold up in double figures, some rural spots could be a fair few
01:37degrees colder than this. And we're looking at some places dropping to low single figures. So
01:41a chilly, fresh start for some of us first thing on Thursday morning. But then it's going to be
01:47another fine day for most of us. Yes, again, there will be some cloud around, a swathe of cloud across
01:52some parts of central southern Scotland into northern England. And that could be thick enough
01:56for a few spots of rain, maybe one or two spots over Northern Ireland as well. And a few bits of
02:01cloud here and there, particularly towards some central eastern parts of England. But like I say,
02:06generally a fine picture, a fair bit of sunshine on offer. In fact, across parts of the southwest are
02:11much sunnier day tomorrow compared to today. And it is going to be pretty dry. Now, once more,
02:17a bit of a westy split with the temperatures. So towards the west, southwest, especially in the
02:22sunshine, it's going to feel pretty warm. Temperatures similar to today, but still that
02:26brisk breeze and also that fresher, perhaps even chillier feel to things across some North Sea
02:32coastal parts. Even some eastern parts of Scotland could be a bit fresh at times as well.
02:37As we go through towards the long bank holiday weekend, there's more fine weather to come. High pressure
02:43is going to stay firmly in control. So things are going to stay generally dry. And with that,
02:47we're going to see our temperatures rising a little bit, not as high as they have been
02:50earlier on in the summer. But nonetheless, it is likely to be a bit warmer as we go through this
02:55weekend. Now, there's been a lot of talk about what's going to happen with Hurricane Erin and exactly
02:59how that's going to affect bank holiday Monday. At the moment, it now looks like the fine weather is
03:05going to linger through. And for what is for much of the country a bank holiday, it now does look set to be
03:11generally dry. But there could be some rain pushing through. And what happens later on next week as a
03:17result of Erin? Well, that's still all to play for. But to find out more about what is likely to happen,
03:22well, make sure you check out the 10-day trend, which Alex Deacon will be bringing to you later on.
03:27Bye-bye.
