00:45Hello and welcome from the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:04The Venezuelan Government inform on Tuesday on the progress of the operation against terrorist actions promoted by the far-right opposition.
01:12Precisely, the Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace of the South American nation, the Estado Cabello, announced the seizing of high-caliber weaponry,
01:21including sniper rifles, grenades, among other ammunition, the perpetrators intended to use against the Venezuelan population.
01:29During the authorities' address, footage of the armament hiding places was presented as criminals used special rooms designed to storage the weapons and explosives.
01:39In this context, Cabello informed that the investigation to dismantle conspiracy groups related to drug trafficking and money laundering,
01:46as well as criminal gangs, has been underway since November and December of 2024,
01:52and thanked all government forces involved in the probe, as well as the people who have contributed with these crucial leads.
02:00In this organizational chart, I almost dropped this. In this organizational chart of Plaza Venezuela, this organizational chart of Plaza Venezuela,
02:29this one here, you remember, right? The explosives in Plaza Venezuela, two people were missing, a.k.a. El Flaco and a.k.a. La Negra.
02:42El Flaco was a person that built the explosive, and La Negra was the mediator contacting the gangs in Colombia.
02:48The gangs used in Venezuela, again from Colombia and trained in Colombia.
02:58They were contacted by this person, and they have already been detained. State security agencies captured them, and thanks to the information provided by both of them, we arrived here.
03:06Look at this, because the amount of weapons and the firepower that these weapons have is impressive.
03:19In this context, Interior Justice and Peace Minister Diosado Cabello added that both Maria Corina Machado and Ivan Simonovic are behind the violent plans against the Venezuelan people.
03:32Who did Maria Corina task with providing proof of faith and efforts? Ivan Simonovic. This here, this right here has a stamp and responsibility of Ivan Simonovic and Maria Corina Machado.
03:45These two politicians who have lost all shame, all shame, and they do not care about seeking alliances with criminal gangs, with drug trafficking gangs, with terrorists and paramilitary groups.
03:58Just look, I ask you. We stay in Venezuela, where the country rejected Tuesday the constant threats and defamation statements issued by the US government aimed at destabilizing the South American country.
04:14In an official communique, the Venezuelan executive said that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela clearly sees the desperation of the US administration,
04:24which resorts to threat and defamation against our country. The fact that Washington accuses Venezuela of drug trafficking reveals its lack of credibility and the failure of its policies in the region.
04:36The statement also mentions that while Washington resorts to threat, Venezuela moves forward with determination, peace and sovereignty, showing that the real way to fight crime is by respecting the independence of the people.
04:50The people of Bolivar and Chavez will keep defeating any attempt at intervention. Venezuela is a beacon of dignity, resistance and security for Latin America and the world.
05:01And August 19th marks the 25th anniversary of the soaring in ceremony of the leader of the Bolivarian revolution, August Chavez, as president of the newly formed Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
05:20It was on July 30th, 2000, when what the people knew as the mega elections were held, following the approval of a new constitution that established the creation of a social and legal state.
05:33This election process confirmed commander Hugo Chavez as president of the country, with more than 59% of the votes.
05:40A month after this triumph, at the federal legislative palace, the leader of the Bolivarian revolution reiterated, as he did in 1999, his unwavering commitment to the changes ordered in the constitutional text with a view to consolidating the new republic.
05:59And we move to El Salvador, where human rights organizations reported that over 435 people have died in prisons during the exception regime implemented by president Nayib Bukele.
06:15The complainants assert that 94% of the deceased did not fit the so-called gang member profile and died with total impunity.
06:24They specified that the causes of death include abuse and neglect by prison guards.
06:30Human rights defenders assert that of the 90,000 people detained under the state of emergency, it is estimated that at least 40,000 are innocent.
06:39Yet, despite reports of human rights violations, the state of emergency remains in effect since March 2022, through extensions decreed by President Bukele.
06:56And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Tela Sur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
07:04We'll be right back, stay with us.
07:18Welcome back to From the South.
07:20Argentine court declares President Javier Milay's veto of the emergency disability law invalid.
07:25The measure was declared unconstitutional by the Federal Court of Campana following an appeal for protection filed by the parents of two children with developmental disorders and school difficulties.
07:38This decision opens the door for similar appeals to be filed in other courts across the country.
07:44Although the government may appeal the measure, this ruling represents the first judicial decision to override the effects of the presidential veto on disability issues.
07:54The Mexican government denied recent statements by the U.S. Roque Enforcement Administration, DEA, regarding the implementation of a joint operation with the U.S. agency.
08:11In her usual morning press conference, Mexican President Claudia Sheyman reiterated that the only agreement with Washington on security is one that the U.S. State Department and the Mexican Foreign Ministry have been working on for several months.
08:25The head of state specified that the bilateral agreement is based on four principles, sovereignty, mutual trust, territorial respect and collaboration without subordination.
08:39There is no agreement with the DEA.
08:46The DEA has issued a statement, but we don't know what the basis for it is.
08:53Neither we nor any of the security institutions have reached an agreement with the DEA.
09:02The only thing that exists is a group of police officers from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection who are running a workshop in Texas.
09:14That is, all there is, there is nothing else.
09:18We do not know why they issued this statement.
09:24In the Dominican Republic, immigration authorities detained 573 Haitian migrants, 458 of whom were deported through different border control checkpoints.

11:17Education workers, on the other hand, are demanding an additional 5% to compensate for the loss of the purchasing power.
11:26The Teachers Federation argued that the union was not invited to the Ministry of Education's press conference, which shows that the government is not willing to resolve the dispute.
11:42In this context, the government of Paraguay dismissed a salary increase for teachers.
11:47Following a two-day strike call by public school teachers, Paraguayan President Santiago Pena described their demands as genuine.
11:54He explained that they had met to discuss the demands but that the necessary resources were unavailable as they would have to be taken from another social program.
12:04President Pena urged that salary issues should be put on hold until next year when there would be a new round of talks.
12:11And we go to Canada now. A three-day Air Canada flight attendants strike forced the consolation of thousands of flights and came to an end after a temporary agreement was reached by the airline and the sectors union.
12:32The strike steamed from the demands of more than 10,000 flight attendants for fairer wages, better working conditions and the cancellation of working hours on land.
12:42The strike went ahead despite an order from the Canadian Minister for Employment instructing Air Canada to resume flight.
12:49Both the airline and the Canada Union of Public Employees, which represents the majority of the company's flight attendants, announced Tuesday that the deal was reached after nine hours of talks on Billing Air Canada had agreed to pay the employees for the hours the aircraft was on the ground.

20:01Since 1975, Spain has not experienced a heat wave of the duration of the one in 2025. What does this mean? It means that, regardless of the cause of the fires, it is clear, as science tells us and common sense tells us, especially for farmers and ranchers,
20:22those who live in rural areas, those who live in rural areas, that the climate is changing, and that the climate emergency is worsening.
