00:00President Nicolás Maduro led a new day of work focused on education where he condemned
00:15imperialism's attempts to manipulate the Venezuelan people. Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno
00:24Rodriguez Barrilla held a press conference before national and international media where
00:28he referred to the aggressive foreign policy of the United States government against the
00:32island and the Israeli parliament approved a plan for total control over the West Bank despite the
00:41agreement with the Palestinian resistance Hamas. Hello and welcome to From the South I'm Alejandra
00:50Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:58President Nicolás Maduro led a new day of work focused on education where he condemned imperialism's
01:12attempts to manipulate the Venezuelan people. President Nicolás Maduro took the opportunity
01:17to hold on the population not to allow themselves to be manipulated by the discrimination campaigns
01:23promoted by the United States. This activity is carried out in connection with the relaunch of
01:29the great Negro Primero mission and its 12th anniversary. In this sense, the President visited
01:34the facilities of the General del Pueblo Soberano, Ezequiel Zamora Military High School, as part of the
01:40infrastructure plan and to strengthen the Bolivarian government's seven transformations plan. This mission
01:47is key to the operational and social reinforcement of the Bolivarian armed forces and its national
01:53education system. And also in Venezuela, from October 22nd to 24th, the Expo Forum for Productive
02:05Venezuela 2030 will be held to promote sustainable productivity in the country. The event will combine
02:11keynote speeches, business roundtables, networking meetings, and a trade show fishery more than 100
02:18companies and 47 panelists with national and international experience in this context. The Vice
02:25President as well of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delsi Rodriguez, highlighted the economic
02:30growth of more than 8.5% that the nation experienced in the last months of the year, despite the constant
02:37threats that Venezuela faces. Rodriguez also addressed that production in the state-owned enterprise sector
02:44grew by almost 129%, while private production grew by 41%, emphasizing on the need to join efforts
02:53between sectors to guarantee Venezuela's economic security.
02:57We have been growing for 18 consecutive quarters. Nothing has stopped us. Just imagine everything that has
03:12happened in 2021, 2022, 23, 24, and this year, how many actions seeking to disrupt the stability of the country,
03:21disrupt economic, political, and social tranquility, and Venezuela continues to stand tall. You continue to
03:28stand tall. No one has brought us to our knees. No one has undermined our capacity, our determination,
03:36our will to keep moving forward.
03:40Venezuelan Vice President Delsi Rodriguez said that the Bolivarian nation experienced an economic growth of
03:458.71% did in the first quarter of 2025.
03:53There are those who think they can go around the world invading, destroying, looting, and sparing.
04:00That is not going to happen in Venezuela, and the answer that the so-called economic agents have given you,
04:07but you are really the economic actors in Venezuela, that is not going to happen in our country.
04:12That is not going to happen. What is happening is this economic miracle, where we show growth,
04:19where the third quarter of the economy according to the official statistics of the Central Bank of
04:25Venezuela, already indicate an 8.71% growth, and Project 8.5% for the end of the year 2025.
04:34That is the truth that nothing stops us, we are only focused on a single path, which is a productive
04:40project of Venezuela, projecting towards 2030, 2040, and 2050.
04:49And we now travel to Miranda State, where a correspondent, Álvaro Fragua, continues to explore Venezuela.
04:55He brings us the story of the community of Yahuapita, specialized in cocoa cultivation and production.
05:01This is an example of the work by social production units that promote economic development, while also
05:08building community and deepening mural support. Let's see.
05:13In the fertile lands of the state of Miranda, cocoa is cultivated through a community effort,
05:18and with the support of national and international programs aiming to boost production.
05:22Small producers have organized themselves to improve the grain's quality and open new markets.
05:28We have an 800 square meter nursery that was a partnership between Venezuela and Turquiae.
05:33Here in Yahuapita, we were selected as a pilot community for an agency called TICA, through the Socialist Corporation of Venezuelan Cocos.
05:40Once harvested and dried, women at home turn the beans into a delicacy, ready to drink.
05:47They make artisanal chocolates with family recipes, mixing coconut, nuts, and pure cocoa.
05:53Afterwards, we prepare the chocolate.
05:58Then fillings are added.
06:02Some are with coconut, some have pineapple, peanuts, nuts.
06:13And then we put it in the fridge to set.
06:19And it's ready.
06:23Working with cocoa generates not just income, but also knowledge.
06:26Neighbors share workshops and training to strengthen cooperatives and form new generations of chocolatiers.
06:33I became a cacao worker through a sister who was also interested in this, and we started exploring.
06:39She took the course and then taught me, and here we are.
06:43Producers make use of every part of the cocoa fruit, the shell, the pulp, the outer husk,
06:49demonstrating that cocoa is also a model of sustainable production.
06:52We can really use everything from cocoa, from the shell of the pod,
07:02which we make shakes with, to what's called the babas of the cocoa,
07:09the pulp that covers the fresh seeds.
07:13With that, we also make drinks.
07:16The husk is used to make cocoa shell tea.
07:21However, climate change and water scarcity affect crops.
07:26Farmers warn that rivers are drying and plants are suffering the consequences.
07:31The main challenge we face now as cocoa producers is climate change because water levels are very low.
07:38Right now, rivers and streams are quite dry for this time of year, October.
07:49Despite difficulties and the U.S. blockade, Venezuelan cocoa export grew 10% in the first half of 2025,
07:57compared to the previous year, generating pride and satisfaction for local production.
08:01Obviously, there is huge satisfaction that goes beyond profit, beyond money.
08:09It's also that satisfaction that fills us as human beings.
08:12Cocoa from Miranda is much more than an export product.
08:18It is the testimony of a people who believe in communal work, solidarity and their own strength.
08:23It is also an ancient tradition that carries thousands of live stories.
08:28We invite viewers to ride to the social media accounts shown on the screen to share their own stories.
08:34Esto es Venezuela Movimiento y yo soy Álvaro Fragua y nos despedimos hasta la próxima.
08:39And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
08:44where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
08:48We'll be right back, stay with us.
08:49Welcome back to From the South.
09:00Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla held a press conference before national and international media,
09:07where he referred to the aggressive foreign policy of the United States government against the island.
09:12The Minister affirmed that a few days before the United Nations General Assembly
09:16considers Cuba's report on the need to lift the blockade.
09:21It is necessary to denounce the campaign of misinformation and coercion unleashed by the United States
09:27to prevent international support for ending this unjust policy.
09:31In this regard, Bruno Rodríguez denounced that the US government made public several documents
09:36that used false rhetoric to accuse Cuba of being a threat to international peace.
09:43As demonstrated in the recent general debate of the United Nations General Assembly,
09:48the international community has spoken out about the violation of human rights constituted by the blockade.
09:54In this context, the Cuban Foreign Minister addressed the misinformation campaign from the United States
10:05aimed at countries that have historically supported the lefting of the economic blockade.
10:09It has a fraudulent approach that on one side they tried to prove, and it's one of the subtitles,
10:20the Cuban regime does not deserve your support.
10:24This is directed to governments that always have voted for decades, some with over 30 years,
10:35in favor of the elimination of the blockade, of the reestablishment of international law,
10:44the end of a crime, of a crime of genocide in the framework of the corresponding convention,
10:56and that as an overwhelming majority of the member states of the United Nations,
11:02that reflects also the thinking and position overwhelmingly in the majority of US citizens
11:11that are the ones paying the emissors, the US diplomats, that are involved in this management,
11:20that also reflect the majority opinion of Cubans that live in the United States,
11:28all of which at the same time are victims of this aggression policy and hostilities and blockade.
11:37In addition, the Cuban diplomat denounced the threats and lies that the United States government uses to justify maintaining the blockade.
11:48It does not feel the need to argue seriousness with the government.
11:55They believe that the brutal pressure and acts of threats are more than enough.
11:59I read the document and I realize that they don't really want to convince anyone, they only want to intimidate and pressure.
12:08It is not the blockade because of issues of problems of the Cuban economy.
12:14I have proven with data and I am willing to do so again, we are willing to debate on this issue.
12:25Experts are also willing to do this, Cuban experts, in our economy to show that the blockade is the main cause of the issues of our economy and the main obstacle for our development.
12:41The Chinese government condemned on Wednesday the sale of US weapons to the Chinese region of Taiwan.
12:52The Spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, Xu Fenglian, reiterated that the Taiwan issue is an internal matter and that, as such, it will not tolerate any external interference.
13:04The Chinese representative criticised the US government for treating the Chinese region as a pawn for its political and economic interests.
13:13He also declared that the regional government of Taiwan has wasted funds intended to improve the living conditions of its citizens.
13:20The United States also claimed responsibility for a new attack on a vessel that was allegedly transporting drugs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
13:33This attack is the eighth of its kind perpetrated by Washington forces in international waters and the first to take place in the Pacific.
13:41On this occasion, the Department of War claimed to have killed two alleged terrorists providing as the only evidence a video showing an empty boat just before it was hit by a projectile.
13:54On the other hand, this new aggression contradicts the U.S. assertions about international drug trafficking routes and given that the White House had previously identified the Caribbean as the main drug route to North America,
14:07a statement that contradicts multiple reports from international organizations.
14:11The Colombian President Gustavo Petro responded to a post made by the TV channel NTN24 that shared statements issued by U.S. President Donald Trump against the Colombian leader and his country.
14:31On this same platform, President Petro stated,
14:33Regarding the slander that has been leveled against me in the United States by high-ranking officials, I will defend myself in court with U.S. lawyers in the U.S. justice system.
14:48I will always be against the genocide and murders committed by those in power in the Caribbean.
14:53When our help is needed to fight drug trafficking, American society will have it.
14:57We will fight against drug traffickers with the states that want our help.
15:01We go now to Peru, where military and police units have been on patrol since early Tuesday following the declaration of a state of emergency due to anti-government protests.
15:17The interim government decision was made under the argument of stopping the presence of what it described as hitmen and mafia groups and allows the armed forces to support the national police.
15:29The measure affects about 10 million people in addition to restricting rights such as freedom of assembly and the inviolability of the home.
15:39The protesters demand an end to the reform of the pension law which has less than 2% of people's approval.
15:45The state of emergency comes in the context of the intense mobilizations that continue to develop in the Indian country in rejection of the government of Osheri.
15:54In other topics, in Argentina, financial tensions continues in the economic markets just days before the mid-term legislative elections.
16:08On Tuesday, the official dollar rate closed almost at its peak, generating financial tension and the central bank's intervention to contain the exchange rate tension.
16:20The situation has provoked concern among the population due to the Palestinian investors' expected move to protect their interest against possible adverse results from the policies of Javier Milei, who will seek to increase his party's presence in Congress on next Sunday's elections.
