00:10Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro sent a message to the people of the United States,
00:14assuring them that they have a friendly government in Caracas to strengthen dialogue and peace.
00:23At least six people were killed in an armed attack in southwestern Ecuador
00:27following the extension of the state of emergency in the country.
00:34The number of fatal victims in Russia following Ukraine's drone strike in the Kherson region has risen to 27.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:47My name is Belinda Los Santos.
00:49I'm from the Cesar Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
00:57We begin with the information we were saying at the beginning.
01:07Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro sent a direct message to the people of the United States,
01:12assuring them that they have a friendly government in Caracas.
01:15During an interview with writer and journalist Ignacio Ramonet, the Venezuelan leader,
01:20distinguished the U.S. people from the actions of their government,
01:24while affirming that Venezuelans are a friendly people and peaceful people as well.
01:30For his part, the head of state denounced the excessive use of force by the United States as an international crime.
01:37President Maduro also argued that U.S. policy in the country is isolated
01:42and evidences the failure of Washington's strategy to take over the South American country's resources.
01:49Finally, the head of state assured that the people of Venezuela are definitely against war.
01:55To the people of the United States, I even tell you, here you have a friendly government.
02:10I know the United States well.
02:12I have driven around New York, Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Queens, Manhattan, Washington.
02:19I have driven around a lot.
02:21I told the President of the United States that.
02:24I know a lot.
02:28I know Constitution Avenue, which is beautiful.
02:31Pennsylvania Avenue, where the statue in Haman to Bolivar is located.
02:36The Lincoln Memorial, which is beautiful.
02:38And I have driven there a lot.
02:40And the people of the United States should know that they have a friendly, peaceful people here
02:45and a friendly government too.
02:47They should know that and that our slogan is very clear, since that this is a gift I have here for Ramonet.
02:58Our slogan is very clear.
03:00No war.
03:01Yes, peace.
03:03No war.
03:04Yes, peace.
03:06In this context, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro also asserted that the country is facing a cognitive war
03:12and defended the truth as the main weapon for guaranteeing the country's sovereignty.
03:21War is cognitive because war is for the brain.
03:24The brain manages emotions and concepts.
03:27War is cognitive.
03:28And for a cognitive war, you have to create a force of consciousness,
03:32a force of value, spiritual strength, and fight the battle with the truth.
03:36Our greatest weapon is not a nuclear missile.
03:44Our greatest weapon is the truth about Venezuela, which is irrefutable, devastating,
03:49and which when they open a breach like this for us to tell our truth,
03:55truly, the light comes on for good in our country.
04:02We defend our right to peace, we defend our right to national sovereignty,
04:06to international law that guarantees the self-determination of peoples.
04:10We defend the right to the future and to development.
04:18These are fundamental rights guaranteed by the United Nations and by all international treaties,
04:24the right to development of peoples, the right to the future, the right to peace,
04:28and we defend a glorious history, the history of the liberators of America.
04:39So I believe that this system of streets, networks, media, and walls will gain more and more strength,
04:46more substance, and will allow us in 2026 and in the years to come
04:50for Venezuela to be known for its truths and not for so much manipulation
04:55and so many dirty attacks that are made.
05:02And on the other hand, the head of state defended the Venezuelan democracy model
05:06and defied critics and the egemonic media to go to the communes to debate directly with the people.
05:12This year we had four national consultations, but of course, for AP, CNN, AAP, and for the Western media,
05:23direct democracy doesn't exist.
05:27What exists for them is the permanent attack against the Bolivarian Venezuela.
05:32But here I defy anyone who wants to debate, whoever, no matter their name or position,
05:41I defy them to go to any neighborhood in Caracas and debate with our people,
05:46not with me, with the people, so they can see how a new democracy is being built.
05:51We don't claim to be models for anyone, but we are proud of what we are building,
05:58so the people are being empowered, forging themselves and training themselves.
06:06And the Venezuelan president also highlighted a 34 percent growth in trade and consumption
06:12and assured that this reflects recovery in the purchasing power of the population.
06:17This year, trade, sales, and consumption grew by 34 percent,
06:27and if there is an excess of supply of domestic and imported products,
06:31domestic products already count for 90 percent of all products on the domestic market.
06:45This means that there is a real purchasing power and real consumption capacity
06:57in Venezuelan families, and this must be consolidated.
07:00And in an exclusive interview with Telesur, Alexander Babakar, vice president of the Russian State Duma,
07:12reaffirmed his firm stance in rejecting the threats and aggressions of the United States against Venezuela.
07:17I believe that the Venezuelan people are united behind their president, their leader,
07:26and I believe that this is the main real obstacle to the implementation of the plan to invade the country.
07:31I believe that the escalation of the situation is centered on two aspects.
07:36The first is external, that is, the reaction of the international community.
07:40In this sense, our role is fundamental.
07:44We must convey our position that this type of action against any state is intolerable.
07:49And the second is internal.
07:50Until any attempt at destabilization is ruled out,
07:54in my opinion, the use of force against the country will be impossible.
07:58Since the war, we know that western countries tend to avoid direct contact with the armed forces of the countries they attack.
08:05Because the West understands that where the spirit and the nation are strong, they have no chance of victory.
08:13And now we have a short break coming up.
08:15But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
08:18where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.

16:32In addition, 31 people, among them five minors, were taken to medical institutions with injuries of various severities.
16:41The attack perpetrated by the Ukrainian military on a hotel and a cafe in the settlement of Korly took place overnight on New Year's,
16:51while several civilians were gathering to celebrate the date.
16:54In the aftermath, the Russian authority has assured that the responsible will be identified
16:59and all representatives of the Ukrainian armed forces would be brought to justice.
17:05In other news, in Switzerland, the police said that about 40 people have been killed and another 115 were injured
17:18most seriously after a fire ripped through a bar during the New Year celebrations in a Swiss Alpine resort
17:25shortly after midnight on Thursday.
17:28Authorities did not immediately have an exact account of the deceased,
17:33which were confirmed later in this scenario the country would hold five days of mourning.
17:39During a news conference, Valle Cantón police commander Frederic Kistler said that the work is underway
17:45to identify the victims and inform their families.
17:48Valle Cantón Attorney General Beatriz Pelou also said that it was too early to determine the cause of the fire
17:54as experts have not yet been able to enter the wreckage.
18:03And we go now to Palestine as the number of victims left by Israel as part of the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip
18:28since October of 2023 exceeds 242,000.
18:34The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that in the last 24 hours, hospitals received one injured person
18:40and two new martyrs, one of whom was recovered from the rubble.
18:44According to reports, following the ceasefire of October 11th of 2025,
18:49there were 416 martyrs, 1,153 injured and 683 bodies that were recovered from the rubble.
19:01As a result, the number of deaths since October of 2023 has risen to over 71,000,
19:08while the number of injured stands at 171,000.
19:19And on Friday, the Israeli military renewed its attacks against multiple areas in southern Lebanon
19:26in a continued escalation that violates international agreement and Lebanese sovereignty.
19:31The Tel Aviv warplanes reportedly launched multiple strikes across the south government,
19:37including air raids in localities in the Yassin and Seydabhi districts.
19:42In addition, Israeli aircraft struck the Navatea district in the governorate of the same name.
19:50And also earlier in the day, a helicopter targeted an excavator in the border town of Aita al-Shav
19:56near the frontier with occupied Palestine.
20:00The actions are part of the Sionist regime's ongoing violations of the ceasefire that was signed in 2024
20:07and represent direct breaches of Lebanese sovereignty,
20:11intensifying tensions along the border amid growing regional instability.
20:22And also, Iran has warned the United States against any further interfering in the Persian nation's domestic affairs
20:29as tensions continue to grow between Tehran and Washington following recent threats by President Donald Trump.
20:36Precisely on Friday, the U.S. heads of state issued concerns about the safety of Iranians
20:42as a pretext for a possible military offensive in the country.
20:46The comments happened amid demonstrations in several Iranian cities due to economic demands
20:52which the U.S. government is accusing of trying to misrepresent for its own purposes.
20:59In response to Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Ismail Bakayi stressed
21:03that the nation would not allow any kind of foreign interference,
21:08pointing out that U.S. politicians have a long history of hiding their interventionist ambitions
21:14regarding sovereign nations under the guise of alleged rescues.
21:18And the Democratic Republic of the Congo accused Rwanda of killing over 1,000 civilians in the last month,
21:31demanding urgent intervention by the international community
21:34and the total withdrawal of foreign forces from its territory.
21:38The Congolese Ministry of Communication claimed that since December,
21:42Rwanda military operations have killed 1,500 people along the Kamayola-Uvira axis
21:49with the use of bombs and drones as well.
21:53In a context where more than 500,000 people have been displaced,
21:57the document emphasizes that the death toll is provisional
22:00while accusing Kigali of supporting the M-23 movement's offensives.
22:05Congolese authorities argue that these actions constitute a serious violation
22:10of national sovereignty and international law.
