00:00Cuba continues its fight against terrorism by unveiling evidence from
00:13criminal acts which have been reported and repeatedly dismissed by the United
00:18States government. More than 50 political parties in
00:25Venezuela began campaigning for votes ahead of the 2025 mayoral and consul elections.
00:35In Palestine, the journalist's death toll has risen to 2229 since October 2023.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:51Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:55Cuba continues its fight against terrorism, this time unveiling evidence from criminal acts which
01:11have been reported and repeatedly dismissed by the United States government as it continues to
01:16protect the perpetrators. Precisely, national media revealed operations directed from U.S. territory,
01:23mainly carried out by the organization Cuba Primero, with the aim of inciting extreme
01:28violence on the island. The institution, which operates under the guise of a political movement,
01:34was accused of mobilizing, instructing and paying several citizens to carry out attacks against
01:40hospitals, schools and daycare centers. Furthermore, it was revealed that individuals within the
01:47organization maintain connections with figures such as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio evidenced in the
01:54complicity of the White House in these plans.
02:03More than 50 political parties in Venezuela began campaigning for votes ahead of the mayoral
02:09and consul elections of 2025. Starting this Friday, more than 6,000 candidates will begin their election
02:15campaigns with the aim of being elected as local authorities on July 27th. More than 21.5 million
02:23voters are called to the polls for these elections, where they will choose 335 majors and over 2,470
02:32councilors from across the country for the next four years. At the same time, the first National Youth
02:39Public Consultation will be held, an initiative that recognizes young people as key players in the
02:44community transformation of the country.
02:54In this context, the Chief of the Unified Campaign for the Municipal and Council Elections, Jorge Rodriguez,
02:59delivered a speech at the nation's treaties for the upcoming polls. Rodriguez highlighted the importance
03:06of consolidating peaceful democracy in the nation as the country completes the process of renewal
03:12of all elected powers that began with the presidential election of 2024. He also underscored that a
03:18prevalent topic throughout the campaign will be the ongoing demand that the U.S. return the kidnapped
03:25Venezuelan children illegally separated from their families through Trump's migration policies.
03:38And since it is also a unity-focused campaign, we are also going out to the streets to denounce
03:44the kidnapping of our 31 children in the United States of America. It already seems to be something
03:51orchestrated. It already seems to be something specifically planned. Because since we started
03:58to denounce that they were separating migrant families in the United States of America, that they
04:03were taking the mothers to detention centers without them having committed any crime. Without them having
04:10committed any fault, and sometimes for eight months, ten months, a year, fourteen months, in those detention
04:17centers, without seeing a judge. Without knowing why they were deprived of their freedom and the most
04:23serious thing they were doing to those mothers, to those Venezuelan women, was separating them from
04:29their children and taking them, in the best of cases, to some centers supposedly shelters. Likewise, Jorge
04:36Rodriguez urged the candidates to campaign on the streets and help the areas affected by the rains.
04:41We also want to inform our candidates, mayors and councilmen and councilwomen, that in those areas
04:53of the country where the emergency weather conditions and the intense rains have affected homes. Roads,
05:01agricultural production, livestock production, there are situations of danger for the population.
05:08The only acceptable electoral campaign is to be with the people, when the river overflows, when a road
05:16is blocked, when houses are affected, when household goods are affected. There is no electoral campaign
05:24there that does not involve being with the people helping the governors, helping the governors to work,
05:31because that is our main work offer." In Venezuela, thousands of citizens rallied on Thursday to
05:40demand the freedom of children kidnapped in the United States as part of the immigration policies
05:45implemented by the Donald Trump administration. The Venezuelan people took to the streets of Caracas in
05:50defense of the human and immigration rights of their countrymen in the United States. In addition,
05:55demonstrators further denounced the kidnapping of Venezuelan migrants in El Salvador, calling for justice from
06:01agencies responsible for guaranteeing immigration rights. The Great March took place after the
06:07Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Josel Cabello, denounced the kidnapping of four more
06:13Venezuelan children separated from their parents at the time of their deportation.
06:17And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at

06:31from the South. Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro announced the approval of a special fund to support farmers
06:48affected by the impact of climate change. The measure aims to facilitate the recovery of crops, livestock and rural roads that have suffered significant damage after recent torrential rains. The fund is part of the Mother Earth government mission launched on Thursday by the President
07:04during a visit during a visit to the state of Mérida. There Maduro reaffirmed his commitment to the agricultural sector and emphasized the need to reactivate production in the affected areas. Heavy rainfall continues to seriously impact various regions of the country, prompting the Bolivarian
07:12government to activate emergency teams and provide assistance to the most vulnerable communities.
07:19The fund is part of the Mother Earth government mission launched on Thursday by the President during a visit to the state of Mérida. There Maduro reaffirmed his commitment to the agricultural sector and emphasized the need to reactivate production in the affected areas. Heavy rainfall continues to seriously impact various regions of the country, prompting the Bolivarian government to activate emergency teams and provide assistance to the most vulnerable communities.
07:39The President of Venezuela. The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, visited areas affected by heavy rains and floods in the state of Mérida. During the tour, the President assessed that the restoration work carried out on the road destroyed by the recent flooding of the Chama River. The head of state highlighted the progress made by the brigades distributed in 82 fronts and announced that he will redouble his efforts

08:29We are heading up to the city of Mérida, because we have come to personally supervise, as we always do, all 82 work fronts we have in here. As you know, on June 24th and 25th, we faced heavy rainfall caused by three atmospheric phenomena that we will explain later on.
08:58Which resulted in 300% more rainfall in 12 hours, causing rivers and tributaries to overflow. We can say that, despite the difficult and tragic circumstances, we managed to save lives. There were no fatalities, and we saved the lives of more than one person who was almost swept away by the river. Our team sprang into action right there and then.
09:26The National Assembly of Nicaragua approved on Thursday to credit agreements with China for the expansion and modernization of the port of Corinto in the northwest of the country. The deal seeks to finance the expansion and modernization of the Julia Herrera de Pomares logistics center located within the port. For this, the Nicaraguan presidency submitted a bill equivalent to more than $126 million
09:56the economic technology company limited. The partnership will strengthen the capacity for goods and merchandise that passed through the strategic port. The parliament approved the proposal as deputies stated. It evidences the government's commitment to positioning the nation as a leading regional logistics hub.
10:14The effort we are making as a government. The effort we are making as a government to develop the country logistics infrastructure has the fundamental objective of positioning Nicaragua as a leading regional logistics hub.
10:42This cannot be achieved overnight and it can only be achieved with resources such as those being channeled through this credit facility granted by the sister republic of China for the strengthening, expansion and modernization of the logistics center Julia Herrera de Pomares located in Rio dejo.

11:12Argentina's Senate overwhelmingly approved a 7.2% increase in pensions and retirement benefits along with a boost in the bonus for minimum pensioners and an emergency law for disabled people.
11:25This approval marks a significant political setback for President Javier Millet who has vowed to veto the bill arguing it threatens his government's strict fiscal austerity and zero deficit goals.
11:37Millet's commitment to strict fiscal cuts has been widely criticized for neglecting the social impact of his policies.
11:45The bill supported by opposition and centrist lawmakers aims to adjust pensions in line with inflation and address the growing social needs amid high poverty and inflation rates that have eroded retirees purchasing power.
12:00The situation of journalists in Haiti is becoming increasingly alarming, the most recent case is that of Roger Claudi Israel, a reporter who disappeared in the city of Mirabalais in the center of the country while covering an attack by armed criminal groups.
12:21Roger Claudi Israel's disappearance reflects the high level of risk faced today by the media in Haiti where being a journalist has become a high risk profession.
12:32In the last year, several reporters have been kidnapped, shot or forced into exile and historic media outlets such as radio, television, Caravallis have been attacked and burned.
12:44In the capital, 90% of the territory is under the control of criminal groups who not only threaten journalists in the street but also directly attack media headquarters in order to silence the situation in the country.

13:42Welcome back to From the South.
13:43In Palestine, the government media office in the Gaza Strip denounced the killing of another journalist in an Israeli airstrike taken at the death toll of media members to 229 since October 2023.
13:56The office stated that Ahmad Abu Abisha, who worked as a correspondent for Palestine Today TV, lost his life after being directly hit by an Israeli drone in front of his home.
14:08In this regard, the media office condemned this systematic Israeli assassination and called on human rights and media institutions to condemn these crimes.
14:18The Palestinian journalist union also condemned the killing as a deliberate and criminal act aimed at silencing the truth.
14:37In Palestine, at least 15 people, including 10 children, have been killed by an Israeli attack while queuing outside a medical point in central Gaza.
14:46The attack hit families waiting for nutritional supplements and medical treatment outside a medical point in their Albala.
14:53The attack targeted an area near the Tayara roundabout, where families had gathered amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Bastille enclave.
15:02Israel's genocidal attacks continue unabated, despite the United Nations Security Council calls for an immediate ceasefire.
15:09an international court of justice directives urging action to prevent genocide and alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
15:24The United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, recorded an increase in malnutrition in Sudanese children of up to 46% between January and May 2025.
15:34The United Nations Organization indicates that in the northern part of the Darfur region, more than 40,000 children were reported to be accurately malnourished.
15:44And it also detailed that in nine of the 13th localities of Darfur, the rate of malnutrition exceeded emergency levels,
15:51with the risk of worsening if the necessary humanitarian measures are not taken.
15:56In addition, UNICEF warns that infant mortality has increased while the collapse of health services is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
16:05Reaffirming unity and centrality, the 58th Summit of Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations came to a close in Malaysia.
16:21For four days, the capital city of Kuala Lumpur hosted this meeting, which was attended by the foreign ministers of China, Wang Yi, Russia, Sergey Lavrov,
16:31and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, among others.
16:34Under the slogan, Inclusivity and Sustainability, ministers from the ten member countries of the Alliance and their main international partners reaffirmed their unity and centrality,
16:45advocating for strengthening internal economic integration and ratifying their willingness to engage in multilateral diplomatic dialogue.
16:54China and the organization strengthened and expanded important agreements, not only in the economic sphere, but also in the field of regional conflict mediation.
17:07The South River tramway route was inaugurated in Moscow.
17:15These highly environmentally friendly electric boats have already carried two million passengers in two years.
17:21Our correspondent, Oleg Jasinski, has more.
17:24Moscow, the capital of Russia, is constantly transforming and seeking to balance its historical heritage with modern urban trends.
17:36The inauguration of the new river tramway route is a project that brings together this past of river transport and, at the same time, offers citizens an innovative form of mobility.
17:48All ships and docks are of high ecological standard, which makes any kind of oil products village completely impossible, as the vessels are electric and are charged at the docks, where special charging stations have been installed.
18:02The charging time ranges from 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the route, and the frequency established on these routes.
18:13The boats in the latest delivery can travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge.
18:17During the Soviet Union, river streetcars were a popular means of transport connecting different districts along the capital's two rivers, the Moskova and the Yoz.
18:32With the metro and automobile infrastructure, they lost their importance, but now, with new technologies and integration into the public transport system, their potential has been developed.
18:42It is difficult to consider the importance of the Moscow River for the city. It is the river that, in fact, gave its name to the city, to the capital of Russia.
18:57First there was the river, and only then the city came into being. Of course, in ancient Moscow, as in all antiquity when roads did not yet exist, the main axis for exploring territories and populating new settlements were rivers.
19:10That is why today, when river transport is revitalized and the third regular traffic route on the river is opened in Moscow, it is a big and important step in the development of transport and in the reintegration of the river into the life of the city.
19:25New river routes connect important points throughout the city. The trams are not just for a traditional sightseeing trip along the river. They are a real public transport alternative with excellent sustainability. The electric streetcars generate no emissions, which is crucial for a metropolis seeking to improve air quality.
19:44These boats, which are being reincorporated into the public transport network of the Russian capital, have truly unique characteristics because they can be called icebreakers. They are also electric icebreakers. Why? Because they can also travel along the Moscow River in the harsh Moscow winters and can break through up to 20 centimeters of ice. So it really is something truly unique.
20:10These new routes are excellent for improving urban mobility. They are functional, sustainable and make the river and the landscapes around it not only beautiful, but also a real alternative for daily transportation in a city that is growing and modernizing every day.
