19 August - national forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Not good news. If you're after rain, it does look like most places will be dry again today.
00:06Quite a lot of cloud around, but some places will see a little bit of sunshine.
00:10It's not completely dry. The thick cloud that's moved in overnight is providing a bit of drizzle here and there
00:15over parts of eastern Scotland and northeast England.
00:18And we will again see one or two showers across the southwest of England.
00:23Dorset, Somerset, perhaps more likely Devon, Cormont, the Isles of City.
00:26But even here, they'll be pretty hit and miss.
00:29Most places will stay dry.
00:31We are going to keep quite a lot of cloud, but that cloud should break up a little bit.
00:34Most places bright enough.
00:36Some good spells of sunshine again, like yesterday in western Scotland.
00:40And the south coast of England may also be favoured for some decent spells of sunshine,
00:44which may well see the temperatures up to 24, 25.
00:47Elsewhere, low 20s, high teens, generally quite fresh on some of these north sea coasts where it stays glum.
00:55And the breeze coming in off the north sea, temperatures only 15 or 16 degrees.
01:00That's a bit below average for the time of year.
01:02Still one or two heavy showers possible in the southwest of England through this evening,
01:06but they should tend to fade away.
01:08The cloud will tend to shift and expand further south and west through the night.
01:13But also we'll see a few more in the way of breaks in the cloud developing over northern Scotland.
01:17Cooler air is moving in, but drier air as well.
01:21But with longer clear spells and cooler air in general, it will be a chillier night across Scotland
01:26with some clear skies, temperatures dipping well down into single figures in rural spots.
01:31Whereas with a blanket of cloud covering much of England and Wales,
01:35temperatures more likely to hold up in the teens.
01:37It does make for a great start here tomorrow,
01:40but I'm a bit more optimistic tomorrow that the cloud will break up a little bit more.
01:45So a better chance of seeing more widespread sunshine,
01:48certainly by the time we get to the afternoon.
01:51Always the threat of that mist and low cloud still affecting some of those north sea coasts.
01:55And always with the breeze off the sea, it's going to be cool here no matter what.
02:00Temperatures generally a degree or so down on today's values,
02:03even where we see some sunshows.
02:05So it is cooler air moving in, but it's still pleasant enough this time of year
02:09if you can get out the breeze in the sunshine.
02:11High teens or low 20s likely.
02:14High pressure remains in control, but sitting to the north,
02:18allowing that cooler air to spread in during Wednesday and still around,
02:23certainly across many eastern and central parts as we head through Thursday and Friday.
02:27But that high pressure will also continue to bring a lot of dry weather through the rest of this week.
02:33If you want the full breakdown day by day of our weeks of weather,
02:37you can catch Aidan's video on our YouTube channel from yesterday.
