Red Sox win series against Marlins!
Should/could Sox have swept? Thoughts on Chapman not getting into the game yesterday? #MLB
Transcript
00:00And so I was listening to the game and was very excited until the end of that game yesterday afternoon.
00:07Can we say it was an enraged Ken Laird?
00:10It was very frustrating yesterday afternoon.
00:14But this is why the other, I mean, now that we're here, right?
00:17And clearly, Greg, looks like you were right.
00:20Chemistry has been much better.
00:22Devers is doing nothing in San Francisco.
00:24So credit to you and the organization in making that move.
00:26The Giants have the worst record in Major League Baseball, I believe, since that trade.
00:30Right.
00:32But he did talk to their affiliate after the game, so I thought that would help.
00:37But this team looks like they're going to the playoffs.
00:42They are two different teams, one at home, one on the road.
00:46With the new system, if you win the division, it is a massive advantage,
00:51especially for a team like the Red Sox that will get home field advantage
00:56in the playoffs.
00:57If the Red Sox have to go on the road in the wild card,
00:59I don't think that they're going to advance in the playoffs.
01:01So all of that suggests you're this close.
01:04The American League sucks.
01:06You're behind the Blue Jays who are giving it away.
01:08The Yankees are a dumpster fire.
01:10And a couple of moves, a couple of ways in which you could improve this team,
01:16and they elected to stay status quo.
01:18But I also have to say, like, are all this Chapman through three pitches?
01:21Four, I think.
01:22Four pitches?
01:23I don't understand why.
01:25Speaking of Ken, I was texting Ken about that, and Ken's like,
01:27wow, they had to use him the day before.
01:30It's like, yeah.
01:30Work low, Greg.
01:31They had to use him for four pitches the day before.
01:33Right.
01:34Like, I mean, he's your closer.
01:37And you're in a one-run ball game, and you can win it.
01:41And yet there's 37 games left.
01:44Like, I mean, I don't know.
01:45Is there any doubt they win that game if Chapman comes in?
01:47No.
01:47Not at all.
01:48So if the season comes down to one game, having home field or winning the division
01:53or not, you can circle that and say, I hope it was worth it.
01:57He threw four pitches?
01:59This isn't the first time that that's happened with Chapman either, where we've talked about
02:02it after the fact, where it doesn't make any sense to us.
02:05But they probably look at it like, if we don't have Chapman, if we overwork him, we're
02:09screwed.
02:10And, you know, you wanted to make it because Toronto ended up losing yesterday.
02:14Yes, you did.
02:15Yes, you did.
02:15And you still have those guys standing in the season.
02:18You got seven games against the Yankees.
02:20Like, I just, and I understand, this is my problem with, if you're going into these,
02:25to this game yesterday with your mindset on the fact that you're not going to use them,
02:30then you can't adjust at all to what is going on in a ball game.
02:34And it's very frustrating.
02:36But so this weekend, right, so Saturday they're in the Bronx, and they're up 4-2, Chapman comes
02:42in, they win the game.
02:43So Sunday night, it's 3-2 Sox, one out in the ninth, the Yankees get a base runner on,
02:50and you're just going to leave Chapman in the bullpen?
02:52Yeah.
02:52No, it's, I mean, listen, they won the series, so.
02:56Yeah, that was a tough one, though, yesterday.
02:58But yesterday was very frustrating.
03:00Thank you, sir.
03:00Thank you, sir.
